Wellington Hotel in Powys

We stayed here for bed and breakfast while enjoying walking in the National Park. Rooms are spacious and clean, if nt a little dated. Friendly service from staff and a fabulous breakfast. A nice chilled atmosphere to the hotel. All reasonably priced, and we look forward to returning again.

Myself and 2 friends stayed for 2 nights (25/10, 26/10/24). I stayed in a twin room. There's an over bath shower. Hand and body wash is provided along with shampoo. There are coffee bags, 2 types of tea-bags, dairy milk. I take tea and coffee without milk so I suspect that no other type of milk is available, and there is no fridge to store it in should you purchase it outside The bathroom in particular was immaculate, The linen and general appearance of the room was very clean. I found that although I was at the front of the hotel, I wasn't disturbed by street noise or the bells of the church nearby, but I'm not a light sleeper. The Reception staff were welcoming and clearly explained hotel information. The housekeeping team were evidently conscientious. We did not have any food at the hotel, so I cannot rate that. However, the fact that we were unable to get a table for our first night may give some indication of the quality. Accessibility- there's no lift, so be prepared to carry luggage up two flights of curved stairs.

Very poor service, long wait between dishes . Asked for drinks never arrived no apologies. It was halloween . No decorations. .

Ryan served us and he was fantastic. Lovely building. Food was good. Recommend.

Service was friendly and efficient. Food was lovely, although disappointed that no cranberry sauce available to go with the roast turkey!

The visit to the pud was excellent. All the staff made me feel very welcome and the food we had was delicious and all served hot. We will definitely be back.

What a great place amazing service from the whole team from the moment we arrived. The room was spotless and had a really comfortable bed. The breakfast was also very tasty and well presented. Had an evening meal there and was very impressed with the menu and service. The whole team of staff there seem to know exactly what great customer service is. Only downside is no parking onsite but loads of car parks in the area.

You’re ok if you don’t ask for salad. A salad is a dish of lettuce, that’s it just lettuce. I asked if they could add anything to the salad, and was told the chef said no he’s not allowed to add anything extra. Very disappointed as the rest of the meal was ok but I don’t go out for a bowl of lettuce

Food on menu unavailable - didn’t actually exist Soup of the day was bland and inedible for human consumption Dirty knives & forks food residue . Men’s toilets stank of urine with actual buckets under the urinals. Mirrors were dirty with fly and spider webs on them Actually walked out - disgusting.

We had googled to see if dog friendly which it is, but I just asked to double check only to be what I felt was a smirk and hand gesture to a big sign which in fairness I'd walked past as it was to my side and I was concentrating on looking where to ask...then it was a blunt have you booked...which i hadnt...oh ill go and clean a table then....once we had decided we had sat a while waiting along with another family then saw a sign saying 'order at bar' so I said this to my husband and the other family said oh yes so up we got to order at bar same member of staff look at me and said do you want something to which I said yes to place our order...its table service was the response this even made the other gentleman raise his eyebrows...our food arrived...it tasted nice but for the money we paid it was terrible just a filled ciabatta on a wooden board no garnish at all...we would never recommend or return I'm afraid sorry...we felt that we were not made to feel welcome and overpriced

Stopped here on the advice of a local, just for tea and snack. We had a 'bar snack' of deep fried chicken in honey and blue cheese. Didn't sound like a usual combination, but was so lovely we had second helpings. If you get the chance, try some!

Come here for my anniversary, having looked at the menu it's mostly just your average pub grub, nothing special. The food is okay, nothing to be excited about yet is probably one of the most expensive pubs I've eaten at. Service took ages which just made the food seem that much more underwhelming especially for what you pay. You get a small portion that'll leave you hungry which works in their favour so you'll buy a dessert. If the colour Beige was a pub this would be it, just average with above average prices for small portions. Save your pennies, go somewhere else. (Even McDonald's is a better feed)

Had an amazing evening, the bar staff were very friendly and polite. Waitresses were lovely and helpful. The food looked and tasted delicious. Service was good drinks were done straight away and food wasnt long after. Will definitely be returning.

This is the second time of visiting early evening when items on the menu were unavailable. Lyla, server, was very polite and friendly but had to be reminded that not all the order was delivered. The gravy was like coloured water!

Efficient staff, good choice of food

Worst experience we have ever had eating out. Couldn’t tell you if the food was any good as after waiting for 2 hours we gave up and got a refund. And that was after phoning ahead to see if they were busy (and told they weren’t).

Popped in here for some lunch today. Ordered 2 sandwiches. Wasn't overly busy. 35 mins later no sign of sandwiches so asked when they'd be ready. "7 minutes" (no apology), 15 mins later and still no sandwiches. Requested a refund and left (again no apology).

If you like a pancake with your roast pork no crackling or apple sauce then yeah this is the place to go. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food very disappointing not a yorkshire putting but a pancake what was all that about. Food not much taste no crackling on or with the pork although it said so on the menu also no apple sauce. Disappointing to say the least. Won't be going there again.

2 night stay, comfy bed and room, staff were helpful and polite. Long wait time for food, no oatmilk available, after a 10 minute wait soya milk was provided. Disappointingly no fruit and yogurt available for breakfast, delivery did not arrive, although staff offered cooked alternative.

Large hotel bar in centre of the town. Can sit outside at front.

We often visit here when touring Brecon. A lovely place to sit and relax and enjoy drinks and food. Very friendly staff.

The food was lovely and we all enjoyed our meal but the service was pretty slow and considering I had 2 children with me we waited about an hour for our mains which I feel is a bit long for the children. Many Thanks

After walking all morning. We were looking forward to a good feed. Our first choice was fully booked. Got to say it couldn't have been any better than the fayre we were served in the Wellington. Fantastic food and a lovely pint. Staff were lovely.

Nice lunch, great service but... the gravy. Welsh people well for me anyway it is about the gravy.. very little served with the lunch on the plate. No gravy boat. I had to pay £2.50 for extra gravy which was about 50 ml in a tiny jug that was half full!! I have never heard of a Sunday roast where you have to pay extra for gravy!

Super friendly hotel with very comfy beds. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast is excellent and not greasy. Would defo recommend and stay again. A great nights sleep.

Two friends and I were absolutely delighted with our three course lunch. What an excellent chef! Everything delicious, very fair pricing, and our waiter, Roberto, was charming and helpful as was another waiter whose name we didn't get. My friends who, unlike me, live locally will definitely be back as will I on my next visit from London

Tried to eat here twice over the last 4 days. Can't have breakfast, not guests (loads of empty tables), then Sunday lunch fully booked. Shame, the food looked good!

We were a party of six, myself my wife and four orthers. Mine and my wife's order given to another table .mening ours arrived very late so didn't eat with our party. Then gave us somebody else's order so had to return as incorrect. A lot of confused staff unable to see the mistake they made. 1hr and 45 minutes later order almost correct. Left there very disappointed and still hungry. When straight from there to greggs.

Awful service , turned away as the waitress said they were fully booked , walked outside booked online no problem and walked straight back in , watched them turn 5 different customers away saying bookings only . Food mediocre and drinks overpriced won’t be returning!

We like the Wellington because it's got the secure room for the bikes, staff are helpful and friendly, could do with biscuits in the room.

Not enough staff on shift. Had to chase up drinks order at the bar after not appearing for almost an hour. Food was very overcooked and almost inedible. No check back on table as staff were rushed off their feet. Very disappointed.

Amazing time at the wellington Hotel, had a fantastic meal cooked by Lee, caleb and Jordan. Service was great by George, Sophie and poppy. The room I stayed in was immaculate and serviced by Paris. Would definitely recommend!!

Even though only 3 vegetarian options the food was excellent

Incredibly disappointing - no value for money. The food was tasty but for the amount it cost very small, the cheese and bacon burger had a piece of bacon in about the size of a 50p. The ice cream sundae had one tiny square of brownie and the chocolate ice cream was gritty and icy which wasn't very pleasant. Overall not very impressed and likely not to return.

Starters were delish. Pies were yum. Steaks could have been better, overcooked for medium rare sirloins. Puddings were winners. Service was absolutely brilliant!

A lovely hotel, with prompt friendly service, the beer is good and the food is hot and plentiful, we didn't have long to wait after we ordered. An average price for this day and age, as everything is expensive now, but worth it.

Booked for 19:30. Told our table wasnt ready and to wait for a little while. 20 minutes later we are still waiting with no word from staff so we went across the road to the Brecon Tap and sat down immediately!

Well surprised, accommodation is very clean and well maintained. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is what you'd expect of a wetherspoons

Stayed for one night - our room was clean and the bed was comfy. The staff were lovely, but the wine was a bit pricey. Everything else was fine.

We stayed here one night as we went to the Theatre in Brecon to see a Phil Collins tribute artist who was really good. We also went for walks in the Brecon Beacons. The hotel was central, comfortable & breakfast was great. It was very reasonable. We would definitely stay there again

Janet served us drinks and food cooked by the chef Marc. It was a busy Saturday but didn’t feel rushed at all, super tasty and filling hearty food. Thoroughly recommend the steak and ale pie with mash, gravy and fresh vegetables. The apple and cherry crumble is a delight to finish Faultless sercvice by Janet

We booked a table for 9 here with the extended family - aged between 11 and 85. The service was terrible - everything took a long time to come - requests for tap water were ignored, both starters and mains were served with 2-3 dishes following 5-10 minutes later. The sharing platter looked nothing like its photo - both the hummus and baked cheese were served with far too little bread - when we asked for more, the wait was about 20 minutes. When my wife asked the waiter where it was, he replied “you should have ordered with the starters”. The main courses were fine for steaks and burgers - the chicken tikka was poor, with under-cooked rice. There were a number of items on the menu unavailable - sweet potato fries, lemon pie, sticky toffee pudding. The staff were generally absent, rarely checking on us at our table. The desserts were actually served before the main course plates had been collected - even though we waited c20 mins for the desserts. Recommend avoiding.

The Hotel has no parking, so you will need to expect a 7 minute walk from the all day parking facility. I stayed in a single room for a family occasion. The bed was comfortable and was adequate for a one night stay. That said, for the price, I would expect an iron/ironing board, hair & mould free bath/shower, and milk with the extremely limited drinks making facility. Overall, nice location, nice pub, friendly staff but average accommodation.

Very Very clean nice Atmosphere

Called in to ask if we could stay over for one night and walked out! Waited at reception and no one came. Went to the bar and waited ages. Rude young lady came and served another lady and walked away. She didnt even acknowledge us! We went to look for her and she was clearing the tables away. Don't know who was supposed to be serving at the bar or reception. Ho well, we went to another place instead.

Great food, terrible wait times. There weren't many customers when we went, so it shouldn't have been a problem. We ended up staying here for nearly 2 hours from the time we ordered food until we finally got the pudding. There was a 30-minute wait between each meal, and nearly 40 minutes waiting for the chocolate pudding, which wasn't even warm (it was supposed to be a hot pot or something, with melted chocolate inside, but it was cold).We had to ask for the pudding, and they said it would be out in 2 minutes, but it took longer than that. Sadly, I wouldn't go again even though the food tasted nice and the staff seemed friendly. We were there for so long they swapped shifts.

I ordered steak and ale pie which was unavailable so I then ordered hunters chicken, the chicken was so dry and the smallest piece of chicken I have ever had, this was served with about 10 chips and a tiny salad of lettuce and rocket!! No tomato or anything else this was so poor. I paid £14.75 for the tiniest meal ever.

Fantastic base for our family with our 2 boys (6&8). Affordable, comfortable and clean large family room, delicious food (huge choice) and great friendly service. Brecon is a lovely little town with plenty to do, we climbed Pen-y-Fan and did the 4 waterfalls walk.

Had a group of people for my birthday dinner, and the service was brilliant. We were served by Kelsey, who was attentive, friendly, and efficient.

Managed to order food on the 5th attempt, as they were out of everything and it was easier for the server to eventually tell me what they actually had, the waiter was charging around like basil fawlty,and had the charisma of a dead fish, I won't be going back

My daughter and i had such a great time Friday evening at the wellington hotel for the pride quiz which was great fun! (Our first ever pub quiz as well) Lovely staff especially Sam the barman! We both look forward to going again soon, 😊

Poppy, our server, was an absolute delight from start to finish. She was attentive, friendly, and made our dining experience truly special. the food was cooked perfectly taking a short amount of time to come. desserts made by caleb was the highlight of the meal, arriving at our table with no delay and looked beautiful

Did not have the full selection of lager / ales forcing one to make a non- prefeŕed choice. Also, our party of 20+ pre booked meal choices submitted well in advance weren't available. Alternatives on the day were not acceptable to all. Also, wine choices were not available. Could so with more staff as service very slow, and a cleaning team in as remnants of food etc., on the floor around tables, plus dust had obviously been present a long time. Shame ad this used to be a reasonably decent place to eat.

Great location, friendly staff, comfy big room and dog friendly. Nicely decorated and pub side had a nice relaxing atmosphere Breakfast was really slow and sadly was not great. Food was really salty and had no other taste. Shame as it was a decent size. Pastries brought out but not enough for the room so sadly didnt get any and they were not replenished when we dined. Coffee cups and juice glasses were dirty.

Upon arrival, the customer service seemed promising. However, things quickly took a turn. It took a good 10-15 minutes for our simple order of three regular cokes to arrive. When the drinks didn't show up, I had to make my way back to the bar to remind the staff, but there were no apologies offered. Interestingly, I overheard a couple at the bar who were staying overnight at the restaurant's accommodations. They were granted a full refund for their week-long stay. It was surprising to witness such a resolution while I was waiting for our drinks. The waiting game continued as we ordered our food. Our starters took a staggering 45 minutes to arrive, despite the restaurant being relatively quiet with only a few other tables occupied. Patience wearing thin, we eagerly anticipated our mains, only to be met with disappointment. My chicken pie, accompanied by mash and vegetables, was nothing short of a letdown. The pie itself was rock solid. The microwaved and cold mash further added to the disappointment. I ended up only eating the vegetables. Meanwhile, my partner ordered a steak cooked to medium-rare, but it arrived lacking the desired juiciness. To top it off, my mom's supposed chicken salad turned out to be nothing more than a plate of chicken and lettuce. Considering the prices we paid, £15 for mine and my mother's dishes and £26 for my partner's, the overall experience was far from satisfactory. The restaurant appeared to be understaffed, and the lack of apologies for the delays and the food only added to our disappointment. While they did remove the cost of two meals from our bill, it hardly compensated for the overall experience. I would not recommend this restaurant. WASTE OF MONEY

Stunning! Just the ticket after a day in the mountains. A warm welcome, and great service from Janet and three lovelly plates of food from Jordan the chef. Recommend!

We returned here after visiting for food in November 2023 and being looked after very well. Unfortunately our visit this time was not as good. We visited early evening and opted to sit in the restaurant area that had table service. This appeared to have been a mistake. There were only two staff on duty and it was not busy. This didn't prevent a display of slow and lack lustre service that was in sharp contrast to our previous visit. We waited a considerable time for both our order to be taken, our food to be served and our bill to be presented (so much so in fact that I went and sought a staff member out so I could pay). We both had the same meal, the leek and potato pie, and it was disappointing. The pastry was so hard in places it was inedible and we both left the majority of this part of the meal.

Mixed report... some aspects of food and service fine but some really let the side down, which pulled our general experience down. Not many customers so understaffing not an excuse. Eg. Kebabs plural turns out to be only one small kebab, so I was initially thinking thank goodness I ordered an extra one, otherwise the meal was primarily carbs..a huge flatbread W chips, but the kebab’s overriding taste was salt. fish and chips were fab. We stayed overnight and value for money the room was fab. Very clean indeed.
