White Hart Inn in Carmarthenshire

Don’t be put off by the smell of cat spray on the way in!!! I was a bit dubious but the food was good. It looked average when it came out, everything in pots, chips, peas, rice (why?) but good portions. It looked deep fried and a bit over cooked but everyone agreed it all tasted good. Very friendly to dogs and a resident dog and at least a couple of cats. I think the land lady / manager could look stern, but I think she was just checking everything was ok and when I chatted to her she warmed up and was friendly. We will be back!

Popped on here to check opening times, as staying locally for holiday. Shame to see such miserable reviews. We ate here during Easter break April 24 enjoyed our meals & the pub. Back in Cenarth for summer break. 3rd visit this week & meals all fresh, hot & nicely presented. Pub atmosphere, locals having a drink & families stopping by for food. A family camping nearby set up a monopoly game & ordered deserts. Landlady always seems attentive & busy ensuring meals are out promptly. Not overly chatty but then why is that needed? We felt comfortable & relaxed. We booked ahead & had a table we requested by the window so we could tuck the dog away undisturbed. We’ve had scampi, cheeseburger & chips (basket meal £8) , chicken tikka curry delish, tasty rice & big poppadom, the steak was amazing huge portion melt in the mouth, chips & ordered onion rings) Locals were friendly, didn’t feel unwelcoming.

What a disappointing experience. The food was ‘ok’ but the landlady was very hostile and miserable. Very unwelcoming attitude. Absolutely no reason for such poor manners. She even slammed the door shut when we left. Perhaps she prefers the local folk. Would never return to this pub and certainly would not recommend.

Food was OK, but the service was terrible, place was filthy and never felt more unwanted in a place ever.. staff have no manners what so ever.

Stumbled on the White Hart by accident whilst on a short trip and so glad we did! Awesome quirky pub with real pub grub and drinks at reasonable prices. We ate here every night and found something interesting and different each time, there’s even a small unique gift shop attached to it. If you are looking for something other than the usual mass chain pub/restaurants with friendly owners this is the place to go. We would make the four hour journey again just to go here.

A disappointing visit, we had to ask the landlord to open the toilets. After ordering food and considering we were the only ones in the pub there was an unacceptable delay , when the food arrived it was overcooked. Food poor quality. The place needed a good clean. We will not be going back!

We actually loved it here. Both had food which was very nice. Nicely priced aswell. I had the Sausage & mash in a yorkie & failed to finish it as there was so much. We moved seats to be by the fire & the landlady stocked it up so it was roaring. Nice & toasty. We stayed down the road in a lovely campsite so not far to wander “home” Even got in to a game of Lingo with the Landlady & a regular customer. We ended up spending a good few hours here just chilling by the quirky fireplace. It’s very dog friendly. The only bit that we didn’t like was a strong smell of cat wee near the back door leading to the loos. This area could do with a good scrub but we will definitely pop in here again for both food & drinks 👍

After having an afternoon stroll we called in here for a quick drink. The person behind the bar (landlady? wearing colourful leggings) was the most miserable unfriendly person, certainly shouldn't be serving the general public. What a shame!

Lovely looking pub, good food but all spoiled by the absolutely miserable bar lady. No welcome, no conversation , no eye contact, everything was too much trouble. We only stayed because we found her miserableness so entertaining… maybe that was her ploy!

I wish I’d read some reviews before going here and spending my money. On the surface this establishment appears to be a nice, historic pub with an affordable menu. Don’t be fooled!! It seems the owner / land person / bar-person would much rather be left alone to watch daytime TV game shows, play Candy Crush, or constantly berate her poor dog than be working in a hospitality role. She appeared thoroughly put-out by our entering her pub, as my wife sheepishly asked the question “is it possible to get some lunch please?” and treated me with utter contempt when I asked about whether the chips were suitable for coeliacs: “they’re potatoes”, she said bluntly and unhelpfully. We decided to sit near a welcoming looking fire. This was a mistake as it was in the same corner as the enormous TV that was loudly screening inane daytime TV shows, and it was also where the aforementioned staff member sat while huffing, tutting and being verbally awful towards her poor dog, before continuing to loudly bemoaning the size of the dog’s turds and the quantity of its piss while we tried to eat our lunch. The atmosphere was tense and I felt like I was going to be smacked round the back of the head or flicked on the ear at any moment. When she brought out my veggie lasagne with an empty chip basket and I asked her if there were meant to be chips in it I was made to feel like a naughty boy: she whisked the basket from my plate and returned it moments later with chips, but not an utterance of apology. The food was nuclear hot, but once cooled was acceptable to our taste buds. Lasagne had distinctly dolmio-esque flavour and consistency to both the tomato sauce element and the béchamel sauce element. The mushroom stroganoff was actually very tasty. Cheesy chips were cheesy chips. Interior design-wise, it is the shell of a lovely traditional pub with slate walls, but adorned with jazz and rock music memorabilia paired with grotesque ornaments in the “Steampunk” style (as I waited for my lasagne to cool to the point of edibility I gazed into the dual energy-saving lightbulb/eye sockets of a scorched sheep skull sconce, while on the TV behind me Rick Edwards asked contestants to correctly identify falcons from a list of birds). The corridor leading from the bar to the toilets/outdoor area smells like a dog’s toilet, and the human toilets themselves are no better - covered in black mould. I would have said something in person but I was afraid to do so based on my basic interactions with the staff member. My advice to this pub: the best thing you could do to improve customer experience would be to ask this member of staff to not come to work anymore. It seems from the vast majority of the negative reviews of this place that one person is the problem, and sadly I get the impression that she is a permanent fixture.

Visited in the afternoon for a drink - seen this pub thought it would be nice traditional olde pub. Woman served us with multi coloured hair no friendly chat just served and ignored us. Went to sit outside but there were too many flies about and area seemed dirty. We went back inside to finish our drinks. It is such a lovely building but seems the owners don’t want to do anything with it -sad. On leaving I took our glasses back to the bar and said thank you and lady behind bar totally ignored me so I said again to make a point but yet again was ignored. Don’t waste your time going in this pub. Such a shame

OK food in a good setting, spoiled by miserable, passive aggressive snarling service by the woman behind the bar. Can't imagine why this was the case, as it seemed to be projected towards others in the bar too. I certainly did nothing to cause it, being pleasant and polite from the very start even asking how she was. See the other reviews, there is clearly a problem with the bar staff member who was working lunch today.

Average at best. Service was non existent with no greeting or waitresses, and menus hidden away by the side of the bar. Food was cheap quality. The burger that I had consisted of two cheap patties and a bun. There is simple and then there is plain not making any effort. This was the latter.

Amazed to read reviews describing the pub as filthy. This is my 4th visit in the last 12mths and whilst the pub is definitely quirky and not”posh” it is not filthy. Today I had the fish and chips which were beautifully cooked and very hot!. I didnt even hesitate about ordering as I have had that dish before and was very impressed last time. I had a coffee which arrived on a tray with a proper cafetière with an additional stainless jug of hot water. We actually asked for a 2nd cup as there was enough coffee to share and it made 3 cups in total!! Very good value for money. As for staff, I can’t say they were chatty but they were pleasant. It was no trouble for them to swap the brown sugar for white sugar and we made a point of saying how much we enjoyed the food. Sometimes I wonder what people expect from a local pub. I will be returning next time I am in the area as I have the place to be reliable in providing good food at a reasonable price.

We stopped in for a drink after visiting Cenarth falls and decided to have lunch after seeing the impressive menu, loads of choice (lots of veggie options) and very reasonable prices. Food came out quickly and was very tasty, we had beef lasagne, bean curry, chicken tikka curry and a jacket potato. Good sized portions and definitely value for money. This pub is nicer than the usual chain pub, has lots of character - very pleased we stopped in. Dog friendly too.

Wow. A local, non-Wetherspoon type pub, superb decoration and the food and drinks were great - both in quality, choice and price. I only wish we lived locally as it was a blast and the locals made us feel as welcome as the owners. 5*+

We’ve been visiting this pub for many years now and the welcome from Pete, Michelle and their staff is superb. Excellent freshly cooked food at sensible prices, superb beers that are always excellently looked after - best pint of Guinness for miles! I don’t understand the negative reviews that are left here. We visit several times a week and often with different friends and they all love it here. Please ignore the reviews and try for yourselves.

So my my husband and I decided to take our son and nephews for a pub lunch as a treat! What a disappointment! Thus place is filthy and the service is shocking! Staff don't acknowledge you when you are at the bar. Sure ee would have been greeted if we had 4 legs and a tail though! I can't say that I am overly picky but I will never go back. We felt so unwelcome. The lady that brought our utensils didn't say a word to us when she plonked them on the table. No offer of any thing else nor did she ask if we were happy with the food. We ordered 3 kids meals. Very basic chips and chicken nuggets and burger and chips then hubby had sausage egg and chips. Again very basic. Cheap frozen chips and cheap sausages. This place could be a gold mime. It's in a lovely position and has lots of space and character but its filthy and the hospitality is shocking. A welcoming smile, some acknowledgment, respect for their pauimg customers and a deep clean would make a huge difference. There are 2 lovely little cafes across the road thay do afternoon teas and will be going back there from now on!

If you like service without conversation or a smile and average food along with a frosty group of locals on a Saturday night....then this is the place for you

Since buying our camper van nearly two years ago , myself and family have visited this pub on many occasions. On our recent visit we were surprised to learn that the previous owners had left ! The pub has deteriorated drastically , it’s now decorated...

We came in and ordered lunch after a lengthy walk. We all ordered sandwiches for convenience and speed. After we ordered, there was a 45 minute wait until our food arrived! This was a major inconvenience as we had places to get to and did not have the time in our lives to spend 45 minutes waiting in a pub. We ended up missing our 3:45 appointment due to the long wait. Food was pretty average, standard pub food, nothing special but nothing really to complain about. It is the appalling service which leads me to leave only two stars on this restaurant. How can they say that they serve lunch if they take three quarters of an hour to do so? It is not what I would expect from a rural Welsh pub. I will definitely not be returning here, unless the pub changes hands in the near future.

Booked meal for 6 15 arrived had drinks were handed menus but not told to order at bar waited 35 minutes my husband went to bar to ask and why not served waited longer when to leave and pay for drinks and was told to fk off several times by landlady who told somebody else who wanted drinks that she was taking to people she hadn't seen for 6 months

Visited tonight and was very disappointed. Not made to feel welcome at all, in fact felt as though we were an inconvenience! Miserable bar staff, ordered food which was ok, nothing great. Not asked if anything else we needed or if food was ok and plates just taken away without a word. For relatively new owners you would think a lot more effort would be made to secure future trade! Stopped at White Hart, Cenarth for a beer and break on way home, saw a group of people eating Sunday lunch, looked amazing, so decided to order. Ordered two Sunday lunches, carvery service. Food was amazing, meat and veg cooked perfectly. Best Sunday lunch I can remember in a long time. We ordered two real ales too, perfect. Would have liked a little more greens with lunch, eg. cabbage :-)

Went tonight for a meal. My hubby and I both had the rump steak. It was beautiful, really presented well and tasted lovely.

We called in for lunch and as it was a very hot day decided to sit in the beer garden at the top of the car park. It was overgrown and needed some TLC to say the least, but we had sat down and decided to stray. There were plenty of tables, a few umbrellas but it all looked a bit sad and neglected, the grass was long, there were bits of building materials strewn about and it wasn’t presented at all well or the least bit inviting. Such a shame when it could be so nice with just a few hours of effort. The food was okay, good but not terrible. The ploughman’s lunch had a great selection of local cheeses and home cooked ham but the Hunter’s Chicken was not so good, tough and served with bullet peas. I really didn’t like having my pickled onions, chutney and coleslaw served in little paper cups like you get McDonalds tomato sauce in, just put it on the plate - that would have been fine. We do wish you well and hope you can make a bit more out of the potential gold mine you have.

Good pub grub, the food was really tasty. Whitebait to start was superb, and then chunky chilli con carne was delicious. They are in the process of redecorating and the toilets etc are in desperate red need of a facelift.

We dropped in after a walk in the rain just as it opened. We quite liked the vibe of the place so decided to eat there. Faggots, peas and mash was all it was but they were locally sourced and tasted great.

Another favourite to visit with the children and the dogs, can tire both out along Cenarth Waterfalls then pop into the White Hart for much needed refreshments

Booked a table for Six of us on 30th June for Sunday carvery. The tables were very sticky. The carvery was delicious two had pork, one had turkey and three of us had beef, beef a bit red raw for my liking but the others seemed to like it that way. Four of us had sweets, spotted dick, chocolate sponge and two had ice cream. The ice cream tasted funny fudge like and gritty, my daughter in law tasted it and said it left an after taste. I left half of my ice cream, my husband eat most of his but said his was fudge like. Three of us who had the ice cream and the one who tasted it spent all the next day on the loo not pleasant. Please check your ice cream especially the strawberry as there could be a problem? Shame as the carvery was delicious. We are local and will not be visiting again.

Visited one lunch time and picked this venue as one of the few open pubs. A few other tables were also taken and staff seemed limited to one serving drinks and the chef. We order soups and baguettes and these took ages to arrive. Soup was luke warm but tasted ok. Baguettes varied. Cheese was poor. Facilities basic - toilets need to be upgraded. Tables very sticky etc. There are better options. With some investment this would be a great little place.

Called here on the off chance for Sunday lunch (fathers day) thought we may to wait, but seated right away, staff lovely, friendly and polite. Carvery was delicious tasted like a sunday dinner should. Would recommend this place for sure.

Ate here two nights in a row, both times service was attentive both nights, food was prompt, hot large portions and lovely . Great little kids menu too. As a family of five it was refreshing to enjoy a nice evening meal out that didn't cost the world. Nice little pub with friendly staff and locals. Would happily return if in the area.

Two of us called here for lunch without booking which was fine as it wasn't school holidays therefore not too busy. They offer a large varied menu which caters for all ages and tastes We had table service from a lovely cheerful young lady. Food came quite quickly, lovely large and tasty portions, one of us had lasagne chips and side salad and the other had chicken, ham and leek pie served with mash potato, peas and lashings of gravy. The portions were large, hot and delicious. For pudding we had bread and butter pudding. The food was home made and very good value. I would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant. There is also a large carpark to the side.

We stopped in because we had a few minutes to spare before going somewhere else. I wish we had left more time for some food. We only had a quick drink but the food smelt very good. It was Sunday and they had a carvery on. There was a good range of beers and everybody in there was very friendly.

The White Hart is a real country pub with good beer and great food. I recommend the Sirloin steak and the steak n ribs both of which were delicious. Very reasonably priced it was a nice place to relax

Visited 11/09 with our 8 month old Rottie. We’d just done the river walk and called in for a refreshing drink but the menu looked inviting so decided to have lunch too. Had planned on sitting in the garden but after discovering that dogs are welcome in the restaurant and bar area, we sat inside. Plenty of tables to choose from, all very clean and ready laid with cutlery and condiments. The menu had plenty to choose from too and daily specials on the blackboard. My husband and I eventually decided on cheeseburger, chips, salad and coleslaw. Only a short wait and the food arrived, nicely presented, hot and delicious. I’d eyed the dessert menu beforehand but was genuinely too full to have a pud, such a pity as I quite fancied trying the white chocolate fudge cake. Anyway, 2 mains and 2 pints of fruit cider for a very reasonable £26, this little pub comes highly recommended.

The husband and I were visiting a livestock fair locally . So found ourselves looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch .

I find it unbelievable, in Carmarthenshire, at the height of the tourist season, why so many restaurants/pubs do not have availability when there is nobody in their restaurant. Sadly, the White Hart was one

Only booked at the last minute so couldn't be too choosy, but glad we went the the White Hart. Had plenty of food for a decent price.

As a vegetarian I’d go a long way for a good nut roast, and the one at the White Hart Inn did not disappoint. Flavoursome and accompanied by Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes and a variety of other veg, it was a real treat. My partner tucked into an outrageous serving of beef, turkey and pork from the carvery with all the trimmings. Would definitely visit again for the food; the young women serving were run off their feet yet remained really pleasant and helpful.

Stunning country pub .. stayed here sat 25th in the motorhome .. beautiful area, food , drinks and service was Abs great ! Can’t fault it ...

On 1st impressions we were not overly impressed with the pub as the outside area was quite scruffy. However, the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were impressed with the choice of meals on the menu especially for vegetarians as there were about 6/7 meals to choose from. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. I had vegetable lasagne and my husband had gammon. The gammon was huge and served with proper chips. A good selection of gins and the drink prices were very reasonable. My only criticism would be the toilets, they are in a separate area outside of the main pub but when entering the toilets the smell from the men’s toilets was very off putting. The toilets really need updating. Also in the main bar area there were some cobwebs hanging from the beams, this wouldn’t take much to clean. Overall we enjoyed our food and would return.

Wife and I ate here along with the dog as we were staying locally. Decent pub grub, nothing to rave about but nothing to whinge about either. Good option for a cheap meal and a couple of pints.
