Y Felin Fish Bar in Carmarthenshire

So I visited here to get food on my way home from work,whoever was working this afternoon was far too busy yapping to a customer about panelling she has recently had done in her house,so much so to the extent on having served the customer the food and taking the money,rather than serve me who was waiting patiently,the member of staff went into the back to get her phone to show photos of the work she had ,had done 😂 I duly walked out as my custom clearly was not wanted! This was on 16th feb.So the owner should do his research on whom was working,to not get any other members of staff in trouble

Service is very friendly, prices and portions are very good. Ordered a chips and cheese rissole as I am a vegetarian. Was very disappointed to see that the vegetarian rissoles and meat rissoles are kept on the same tray, they also used the same tongs to pick up the vegetarian rissole and the meat rissole. After saying I was a vegetarian the lady did inform me that my chips had been cooked in the same oil as fish which I found very disappointing. The quality and taste of the food seems very well done just a shame on some of the practices they keep.

Food is lovely but ,the staff are extremely rude !!! Put you off going in the shop

Average at best. Fish not good, mostly batter. Staff also seem unhappy but smiles cost nothing. Go elsewhere if you can

Nice fish and chip shop if you can catch it open fresh fish and piping hot chips but if you going to travel a bit to get there give them a ring to save you wasting your petrol and time you might be lucky they could be open 😀

Food is good, it is also nice and clean in the shop and the service was good

***GO ELSEWHERE!***Bought 2 adult portions of fish & chips & 1 childrens portions of chips. The childrens chips were ok not brill but ok, but BOTH the adults chips were a DISGRACE! I don’t know how they had the nerve to sell them! EACH PORTION WERE TINY BITS OF SCRAP CHIPS, NOT 1 FULL CHIP TO BE SEEN. I will NEVER buy from this chippy ever again! WORST CHIPPY IN UK! Shame on you!

‘Large’ fish… questioned and said it goes on weight… I think you need to fix your scales. Horrendous portion for the cost. Will be avoiding! Update - ended up in the bin. Full of bones!

Again, not open as per their quoted opening times.. Fed up with this, won't bother again. Went to Mr Chips at Seaside instead, food looks amazing.

I cant comment on the food because everytime i get there its shut... Even though website says its open. Waste of a journey and time

Ordered AND PAID FOR 2 pies and 2 chips, they forgot to put the pie in one of them and I didn't realise until I got home. Also woman gave shortchanged me by a tenner until I pointed it out. Won't be going back here!

This chippy has certinly gone down hill.... The chips were like mash potato they were soggy it was truly embarrassing. I have had chips here on a few occasions and there is a difference when the old lady on today makes them.... They are awful I wont be going there again and wouldnt recommend.. What a waste of money.

20/08/20 - We just had 2 portions of chips which were terrible. They were thin, tasteless and seemed to be like cheap frozen chips. They were cooked in oil and not lard. Most of the chips went in the bin and for that to happen they had to be bad as we both enjoy a portion of chips. It seems like this chip shop is under new ownership as they now serve Doner Kebabs which we recommend they stick to instead of selling inferior chips. We will certainly not be returning to this chip shop and certainly could not recommend it.

Been 4 times, first time the potatoes for the chips were green (you can tell by the taste), didn't go back to tell them as we were miles away by then. The other times, they've been very nice to speak to and great food. Recommended.

And not just fish and chips! My daughter always gets the chicken nuggets and their pies are good. In fact all food fantastic and very friendly staff!

I do like these chips.They fill me with warmth and contentment on a wet grey day. Well worth a stop.

My husband and I used to come gere every Friday for our chippie tea as the food was good. But our ladt visit was bad. Fiah was awful. It was really dry inside the batter, but thats not the whole reason, every visit my husband tried to nake chat or joke. I did too but the staff are soooo grumpy. No smiles no chatter. Puts you off. Well put us off anyway. Lighten up ladies or get younger chirpier staff !!!

Good Fish and Chip shop. Worth a visit.

Bought chips from this chippy tonight and I couldn’t eat them as they tasted like gone off fish! They were absolutely rancid! I’m guessing they’d cooked them in the same oil as a load of fish? I will never go to this chippy again, I’ve never tasted such disgusting chips in my life!

The fish was a bit dry and I have eaten better chips, but I have had worse, and they do have a good hygiene rating.

I checked online yesterday and it was open till 9pm but when I went to go to the chip shop at about 3.30pm it was closed no notice on the door. Very disappointed they should checked there timings if they are going to close

Well, just home from a holiday in Spain! Looking forward to authentic fish and chips! What a disappointment! £5.60 for rubbish! Fish, dry, obviously overcooked, batter, not greasy but hard! Bones in the fish, ok. But fish dry, no flavour at all! Chips, only ok. What an expensive , disappointing supper! Never again!!! Better off going to Sandpiper 2 for £10 better quality!Shocking!

The chips are the best chip shop chips I’ve tried (and I’ve been everywhere) my son loves the nuggets there and they are an amazing price. Could not recommend it enough.

Visited here past couple of years and find staff well presented, courteous and friendly. Always a good selection of food items and those on display always look fresh. Always busy, so chips and other items always piping hot, even by time I drive home. Late customers may be disappointed by choice, but for me this is a bonus as at least we can be guaranteed it's fresh

Decided to try again, unfortunately it was just as bad as last time with tasteless rissoles and cold chips. The blonde woman really has an attitude problem too- very off putting

Had to wait a few minutes for the chips to cook, but they were the best chips and definitely worth the wait. Had fish, chips and the Irish curry sauce. Delicious. Very happy, helpful staff and very clean shop. Would recommend this chip shop without hesitation.

Chips butty consists of bread roll and chips, very disappointed to find 40% of it is batter from your fryer.

Really nice fish and chips can't fault it nice staff and there rissoles ain't bad either very busy chip shop speaks for itself.

Y Felin is the best, consistent quality a large piece of cod in batter and chips for £5.20. I go there often and am always satisfied.

What has happened to this place?used to be the best in town a little while ago,now the food is dreadful.Just threw away fish rissoles(both way overcooked) and almost raw chips.never going again

called in for a fish & pie with chips. Really we did not enjoy either of our selections. Pie tasted strange, so i was told! While my fish was cold, greasy and soggy, with quite a few bones, yes..i know it is expected in fish)

Cold chips, the rissoles had no onion, no herbs, no seasoning and no meat, pretty expensive too. Miserable staff, I certainly won't be back

Despite having a good appetite even I have difficulty eating all the chips that come as a regular portion.Chips are always freshly cooked and the fish is more like a small whale!!!

Probamos la última noche y Felin por primera vez. Era simplemente ir a por patatas fritas, pero después de ver el pescado frito y crujiente rebozado decidí probar uno. Normalmente no me gustan cod (ventilador de eglefino) pero esta era delicioso pescado. Ya que mover desde la costa noreste de Inglaterra, donde el pescado y las patatas fritas son de un nivel legendario que han luchado para encontrar alguno que coinciden en esta zona. Para mí es la calidad de la pasta tanto como el pescado y la pasta era excepcional. Muy bien la luz y crujientes incluso después de 10 minutos de camino a casa en el envoltorio. humeante El pescado era blanca y precario y carnoso como un bacalao debe ser. Las patatas fritas eran también bastante buena, pero yo prefiero un poco más bien hecho. No grasienta.

This chip shop used to be really good and we never went anywhere else but after the last couple of visits there it seems to have gone downhillThe portions have gone smaller and the chips taste of old fat.We wont be back again

Reviewed this place in June 2013, vowing never to return. I was persuaded by a fiend to give it another go and ok - it has improves somewhat. he chips were just cooked and the portion is ok. The rest of it is still the same, a greasy feel to the place and the staff now talk to you but surely a smile or even a pleasing half grimace wouldn't hurt.I won't hurry back.

Great tasting golden chips with a spicy testy Irish curry sauce. The staff described it as a popular dish it was really nice.

I always make this my regular chippy, food is always fresh and the fish is the best around not soggy batter like other places, very friendly polite and well presented staff, always clean and easy to park outside and run in, well done y felin keep up the good work!!!

The worst fish and chips I ever had was here. The service was not exactly great either. Trouble is if you want something quick you don't have much of a choice in the area.

found that a portion of chips had gone up 50p, now was 1.60, and a small portion at that! there is no consistency in the portions, although the food is very nice.

I used to be a customer here until another opened a short distance away. I go pat Y-Felin to get this other chip shop now- why ?Y-Felin, miserable surly staff who more or less grunt at you and have no personality. Overpriced and under portioned food / what there is of it. Dark and dingy feel.The rival - Freshly cooked to order , sufficient stock and friendly staff who go out of the way to have a chat and make you feel valued. I would now rather use Frozen chips in my oven than return to Y-Felin.

The service is fantastic, staff are quick and the portions are massive! The food is really tasty probably the best chip shop in Llanelli. The prices are brilliant and they are cheaper than other chip shop in the area. I've always been able to order what ever is on the menu which is really good, as some smaller takeaways don't always have a full choice.

you get what you pay for I suppose, nothing wrong but nothing to brag about by far. I found that the fish could have done with less batter as there was hardly any fish In comparisson

This fish and chip shop has to be the best in Llanelli. The fish is absolutely beautiful and cooked to perfection. Lovely chips, not greasy at all and plenty of them. Place is spotlessly clean and staff are friendly. Plus my children love the chicken nuggets and chicken pops! Would highly recommend popping in and trying it yourself!

One of the best chip shops in the area. If you like spicy curry ask for their Irish curry. It's lovely! Nice little building too.
