Arrived with 8 people for Saturday lunch at 12.30 to find it shut. No notice or reason given for closure. Automated response to telephone call (leave a message and we'll get back to you); no one did. Saturday opening hours 12.00 - 21.00 (website). What's going on?

Very average food. The menu promises more than it delivers. Our grilled haddock in garlic butter had to have been frozen as the plate was swimming in water when it arrived. To be fair one of our party enjoyed the steak and pastry pie. My advice is opt for the Shoregate instead if you enjoy good food.

Went for a toastie with a friend. I couldn't believe that we received 2 slices of the cheapest nastiest supermarket white sliced bread and cheap cheese, and just that! No salad, not even a scrap of lettuce, and the coffee cups are half the size of anywhere else. It's obvious they keep going as they have a captive audience of holiday makers in the summer, and golfers nearby.

This might be the best coffee and breakfast sandwich anywhere! I know that sounds hyperbolic but… such kind and thoughtful people! The mission of the business is duly a social enterprise employing and supporting those with hidden disabilities. Everyone was amazing! The service and the food/coffee were beyond excellent!

Lovely venue and great views. Arrived for a late lunch today. Stood at entry for a wee while, seater/maitre d (an older blond lady in a royal blue polo top) chose to have a conversation with a waitress rather than instantly greet us and show us to a table. On previous visits the greeters are usually top notch. Ordered Cullen Skink which is always lovely. Steak sandwich - quality of meat was poor, chewy and sinuous. A beef ham would have been more tender at around a £15 price point. Waitress was lovely.

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Had been keen to visit the inn for some time Booked into Restuarant on a Wednesday evening. Very quiet However the dishes were very tasty and made great use of local produce Prices we felt were expensive and the cost of side dishes a bit of a rip off Very attentive service

I’m not surprised that Rufflets is in the bottom half of local restaurant rankings. We’ve had 2 disappointing experiences recently. We’ve got a long connection with the hotel: as a family we have celebrated significant events and always had great times. Something has changed. Reluctantly posting here as they’ve twice ignored my emailed feedback in the hope they now read (and take action?) – and also to warn others given their apparent lack of interest. We brought my wife’s parents for afternoon tea in June. The experience was lacklustre – this started when we arrived and we stood in the doorway of the restaurant. No-one came to welcome us. The restaurant was not busy and had all the atmosphere of a wake. The service was slow and when food did arrive was not very special. Afternoon tea should feel a bit decadent: this felt serviceable and the scones were absolutely terrible. In August we came for a birthday dinner for my sister, who has Downs syndrome. Before eating, we sat outside the restaurant. Staff made little effort to interact or make us feel welcome. I had to go to the restaurant to order drinks. They knew beforehand that it was her 50th birthday (and she was wearing a birthday badge …) and opened presents in the lounge. Staff didn’t make any effort to acknowledge the event, or engage in any way. Service from all staff was perfunctory, verging on cold. Smiles certainly weren’t on their menu. At the end of the meal, when I asked for the bill, there was awkward silence as I paid. No comment, or question (“Did you enjoy the meal?”, “Hope you had a good evening”, “Thanks for coming”). Go elsewhere – there are many better places.

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
