Visited with two hungry teenagers after completing the awesome Elie Chainwalk. We were made completely welcome and had an absolutely delicious lunch, with friendly and efficient service. Back later for rugby viewing with a friendly and entertaining crowd, lovely atmosphere, brilliant place. It’s spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated.

My friend and I visited around 1pm and the vegan salad with Falafel sounded good, they had no salads left, so I chose the bagel with houmous and salad. They had no houmous left. I explained I was dairyfree and asked what could I have. After a few minutes they found a tub of houmous. I was offered gluten free bread with a houmous and salad filling. I didn't have the heart to tell them I didn't need gluten free. My friend got their first choice of baguette with pesto and mozzarella. We also had 2 water and 2 coffees. Both sandwiches were good. Just disappointed at the inclusive menu being very restricted. Made feel inconvenient.

Went for a toastie with a friend. I couldn't believe that we received 2 slices of the cheapest nastiest supermarket white sliced bread and cheap cheese, and just that! No salad, not even a scrap of lettuce, and the coffee cups are half the size of anywhere else. It's obvious they keep going as they have a captive audience of holiday makers in the summer, and golfers nearby.

Wonderful views and very helpful waitress.. excellent Cullen Skink. Haggis, neeps and tatties….a disaster and bordering on mis-representation of the item on the menu. Please avoid the modern twist on a traditional dish - a rissole, with a soggy textureless interior which was served with unrecognisable flavourless neeps, and creamed potatoes.

I’m not surprised that Rufflets is in the bottom half of local restaurant rankings. We’ve had 2 disappointing experiences recently. We’ve got a long connection with the hotel: as a family we have celebrated significant events and always had great times. Something has changed. Reluctantly posting here as they’ve twice ignored my emailed feedback in the hope they now read (and take action?) – and also to warn others given their apparent lack of interest. We brought my wife’s parents for afternoon tea in June. The experience was lacklustre – this started when we arrived and we stood in the doorway of the restaurant. No-one came to welcome us. The restaurant was not busy and had all the atmosphere of a wake. The service was slow and when food did arrive was not very special. Afternoon tea should feel a bit decadent: this felt serviceable and the scones were absolutely terrible. In August we came for a birthday dinner for my sister, who has Downs syndrome. Before eating, we sat outside the restaurant. Staff made little effort to interact or make us feel welcome. I had to go to the restaurant to order drinks. They knew beforehand that it was her 50th birthday (and she was wearing a birthday badge …) and opened presents in the lounge. Staff didn’t make any effort to acknowledge the event, or engage in any way. Service from all staff was perfunctory, verging on cold. Smiles certainly weren’t on their menu. At the end of the meal, when I asked for the bill, there was awkward silence as I paid. No comment, or question (“Did you enjoy the meal?”, “Hope you had a good evening”, “Thanks for coming”). Go elsewhere – there are many better places.

We were here to do the archery and air rifles, and the the clay shooting. What a fun morning. We were put in a group of 6 the instructors were both excellent. The gentleman on the clays and the young man on the arrows and air rifles. We had a tea and a cake before driving home. Excellent morning.
