This might be the best coffee and breakfast sandwich anywhere! I know that sounds hyperbolic but… such kind and thoughtful people! The mission of the business is duly a social enterprise employing and supporting those with hidden disabilities. Everyone was amazing! The service and the food/coffee were beyond excellent!

Came here for lunch, staff were very unfriendly. Particularly the lady with the grey hair, shouting in my face when trying to use the bathroom, awful customer service. Food and coffee were below par too, bagel had some mozzarella balls, a dollop of pesto and the tiniest amount of tomato. No effort for presentation, just slapped on top in a pile, can't have taken more than a minute to put together, so not worth the money. Wouldn't recommend

Please visit this lovely cafe. The food was amazing, and the coffee, especially the guest roast, was excellent. What makes this place so special is its focus on providing job opportunities to people who might struggle to find work elsewhere. There was a bit of a misunderstanding over our order, and I initially thought they couldn’t cater to my wife’s dietary needs—no onion, garlic, or lactose. The manager of the day (I assume) went out of her way to clarify and speak with my wife about her requirements. They made a beautiful, bespoke sandwich that met all her needs, topped off with a vegan flapjack. It was such a beautiful gesture, and I was humbled by their care and attention to detail. It’s a shame we don’t live nearby, as we would be regulars.

We called in for breakfast. We had coffee and tea. The lemon and ginger tea came in a small pot and was lovely. Scrambled egg on toast is lovely and the bread was very nice with an onion flavour. We also had breakfast rolls. The staff are great. The cafe is ideal for people who have difficulty walking. Wheelchair friendly.

Tea was in a teapot fine but only given a small cup. The tea itself was lukewarm. We had to wait ages for the meal and it was really greasy The bacon was like cardboard the scrambled egg had cheese through it which is a no no. I don't like cheese. I always pass on what I won't eat to my husband. For £10.99 it is not worth it. My little Brownies could cook better than the staff. When I was there today they even had dogs in the place. 4 that I counted. This is not hygienic.

Popped in here for a quick coffee with an elderly relative. Understandably it was busy so few tables available however when one became free we took our seat and cleared the plates ourselves. I then went to ask for something to wipe the table and the not so friendly waiter begrudgingly came over to clean the table for us. He then asked my elderly Grandma to stand up whilst he wiped it. The coffees took way too long to arrive and when they finally did they were lukewarm. I don’t enjoy making complaints but having worked in the industry before I know that front of house staff create an impression on the place and this was not a good one. Unfortunately will not be returning as there are plenty of other coffee shops in St Andrews to enjoy!

visited Zest today for third time. Despite all the notices telling me that it is a social enterprise set up and explaining the employment rational, it wasn't until my wife said something that I realised!! Stupid customer. My tea and scones were great, the service was good and the fuss they all make over the dog was much appreciated to help with socialisation. The negative reviews here seem to say more about the customer than the place but don't tell everyone how great this place is or I won't get a seat!!

Omg...tried this so called cafe, today and was totally horrified....Do not go on a Sunday and have a roll of scrambled egg as the rolls are delivered on the Saturday and are a day old,but the manager says these are not old or hard...but they are!!!!!..Hard and stale.... I ordered a Scottish breakfast and a soft yoke fried egg...Well where to start mmmm.... Egg was over cooked and hard as a football...the bacon was like a sheet of plyboard, the sausage was the cheapest skinny link you could get,the mushrooms where soggy and tastless and prob from Saturday like the roll!!! HASHBROWNS right out the freezer and into the deep fat fryer, tomato was hard inside and soggy on the outside and now onto the super toast!!!! Now Toast is made by the bread being placed into the toaster and TOASTED!!! not fried,we call that fried bread not Toast...im sure the people reading this review would agree...Tea for two,was the smallest pot which in any other cafe they would call that a tea for one.Food preped beside the coffee machine and the staff more interested in counting there tips than serving the customer,on entry had to wait after sitting down and then have to ask how the service works,is it table service??? but was told you come to the till and pay up before you get tortured by there food!!! And yes the word torture is correct,,even the scrambled egg was hard and tastless. I think you should check with the customer they don't have a cheese intolerance as adding cheese to scrambled egg is Not scrambled egg,we call that a cheese soufflé in the chef world. You should tell the customer you put cheese in scrambled egg.Now onto the toilets, well the womans toilet was not in-service and my wife had to use the dirty mens toilet which was NOT CLEAN,as the manager said it was...the whole place is just a disaster do your self and your body a favour and go any other place in St andrews but not here,u will thank me for this advice...The manager will say the place is amazing and people keep returning yeah that's because they are all students and like the manager says they know all there 5 regular customers by name....Over priced social enterprise. So to sum Zest up,find the nearset bin and enjoy lunch as I bet it would be better than the rubbish you get from the cafe. Hope this helps you make the right choice for lunch.

Great coffee, very slow service. We ordered cakes at the counter and I was left to struggle to my table outside carrying 3 plates, knives and a bottle of water. That sums up the service!!! I had been to the toilet and nearly finished my cake before my coffee arrived. To make matters worse our drinks were offered to various other tables before eventually being delivered to our table. Granted the cakes and coffee were first class but the shockingly bad service makes this place difficult to recommend. A further awkward moment arose when we were packing up to leave when the attendment was trying to clear our table around us. Shocking service... perhaps take away is the way forward

Headed over to St Andrews first week of January to clear the cobwebs and walk off some of the festive season excesses. We decided to pop in for a plate of soup as was beginning to rain fortunately our usual stop was closed as taking the chance for some refurbishment, headed on and came across this lovely coffee shop. As a coeliac I was delighted to see that all 4 soups available were GF my husband had the lentil which was lovely, had a sneaky taste and I had the Cauliflower and harissa which was excellent and warming on a cold and now very wet day this was served with some GF toast. We decided to have a cuppa as well so got my hubbie normal breakfast tea and I decided to have the ginger chai tea this was lovely and didn't require any milk, I had a flapjack with this which was fine after my soup but if had been in for just tea and cake would have been slightly disappointing. There may normally be other choices I will check this out at a future visit. Staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked about purchasing the ginger chai tea which was available to buy along with some others and their coffees. We will certainly visit again and recommend to anyone looking for reasonably priced good food.

I spent a few months on placement at Zest learning about marketing and social media. I worked closely with the owner, Lisa who is fab. She knows everything there is to know about coffee.

Dropped in and managed to get a table for the five of us. Good food and the staff were very helpful. Coffee was very well made. The prices were very reasonable.

Dropped in for a quick lunch and was served a large freshly made salad and flat white coffee plus scone within 10 minutes. Zest has a good atmosphere and friendly waiting staff. Coffee is particularly tasty as the owner, Lisa, is a regional expert! Would definitely go back.

Charged a small fortune for a roll and coffee (about £14), the roll was pathetic and the coffee was cold.

Stopped this morning for a coffee when in town. We spotted the scones of various types we chose the cheese ones they were huge and so light, best scone we've had in a long time. I chose the ginger chai latte also lovely and the ginger topping made it unusual recommend.

Although not quite the specialty coffee shop I was expecting from my search, the coffee is good, the breakfast is good, and the staff cheery and friendly.

We visited St. Andrews on January 5th and had intended to eat at the Northpoint cafe which we’d visited before. Unfortunately it was closed so looking around we found Zest. We managed to park right in front. There were quite a few customers but we found a table in the back. We were slightly too late for the breakfast menu so my husband opted for soup and my son and I for waffles. The food was really nice. Son said it’s one of the best lunches he’s ever had. We hadn’t known about the social enterprise aspect of the cafe until we read it on the menu and I think it’s great. The staff were lovely. We’d certainly eat there again.

We decided to have some lunch here as we were doing some Christmas Shopping. The first time we couldn’t find a seat but we came back later and managed to squeeze ourselves right in at the back (between the Ladies & Gents loos!). The food came very quickly and was delicious. We had lentil soup then toasted bagels with smoked salmon, cream cheese and spinach; cream cheese, bacon and red onion. It would have been nice to have had some salt and pepper on the table as the soup needed a wee bit of seasoning.

Popped in here while walking round the streets of St Andrews and although extremely busy I was shown to a seat at the back of the restaurant in amongst the throng of students discussing course work no doubt and laptops on show brightening up the interior.

I cannot stress enough that you must ignore the negative feedback on this place. If you are reading into where to have a coffee then the ethics that go into this place you will see are amazing. You should understand that some people that work here are being given an opportunity and a break. Doesn't mean they are not human..in fact they may be more human then most baristas you come across.

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

When the weather turns cold, shops closed, you don’t want a restaurant, just a cuppa, Alexander and George will make you welcome. Enticed by the chips! Feel much better now. Thanks guys!

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
