We just had a lovely meal here. Our two dogs were also allowed and were made a fuss of. The service was excellent in particular Athi and Vasu were very attentive. The background music was also different and enjoyable. Will certainly be back.

I ordered scallops. Five miniscule, undercooked white blobs appeared with prosciutto "crisps" the texture of dog chews and some side stuff (£19). I ordered a burger that appeared on a soggy brioche bun and had the texture of an overbaked sponge cake and no flavour to speak of. The tiny handful of fries were soggy too.(£19) I am sorry folks but this is lazy and disinterested cooking. I guess you are happy with the constant throughput of visitors and don't mind cutting out repeat custom from local people. I am very disappointed.

Tucked in a quiet spot off the "beaten path" this place proved superb. Excellent service provided by "Athi" who graciously, patiently, and cheerfully answered our silly questions. The food was divine: unparalleled hummus, outstanding burger, and the Peach Spritz was divine. Lovely ambiance! "Athi" needs to be praised again because she really went above and beyond to provide 2 senior citizens with incomparable service. TYSM Athi!

Underwhelmed. Fairly limited menu and some things were not available. Cullen skink was good. Had a meat sharing platter but the presentation wasn't good - mix of meats wasn't as described on the menu and the prosciutto had just been dumped on the platter. My husband hated his dessert and left it - fortunately we weren't charged for it. I enjoyed what I had. Staff were friendly and the food came quickly but it wasn't the experience I was hoping for.

We came without a reservation and were asked to wait outside for 15 minutes. When I asked whether we could sit at the bar because it was cold outside, we were placed into a room that was rented out for a private celebration. The celebration was interrupted by us and we didn't have an enjoyable evening because the party was noisy. I don't understand why we were put there. Out of three people, we had one very good meal, one was okay and one was completely bland. All in all, very disappointing.

Could be an excellent restaurant, but a few things let it down. We dined there on a Sunday evening (23 March). Arrived on time, but table wasn’t ready, so had to stand beside the door. Our simple drinks order was taken by a waitress who was disinterested - a bottle of wine, a Pepsi without lemon and a bottle of sparkling water. She reappeared 5 minutes later as had forgotten which wine we had ordered (it’s a tiny wine list). This was then served by a more pleasant waiter. The Pepsi came complete with unwanted fruit and when we asked about the water they appeared with a jug of tap!!! Food was variable; the fish and chips excellent, the burger fine but uninspiring and boring to look at and the venison was slightly overcooked, missing the pear accompaniment, the the sweet and sour beetroot tasted like it was straight out of a vacuum pack and the purple potato mash had a strange spongy texture. All was just plonked in front of us. We decided not to risk dessert as so variable, but never had such bad service as that waitress. When I mentioned (politely with a smile) that the loo roll was missing from a cubicle I received a shrug too). Avoid until the staff improve and food becomes consistent. When going to pay we were asked twice if we were enjoying our holiday - we are local.

A quiet location and a quite venue. Perhaps it was the fact we ate on a Wednesday was the reason it was quiet. The waitress was pleasant and professional but a tad efficient and although we had no complaints a little more experience and she will refine the soft skills. Food was very tasty! I went for chicken breast and it was very well cooked, the flavour was spot on. My veg was the harder side of Al dente which was a tad disappointing but silver linings meant I got more nutrients as the root veg weren’t cooked to beyond recognition as many places do. A little surprised to be told that one dessert was off (the one we all wanted) considering the place was oh so quiet. Overall it was nice and would recommend.

I think an average of 4 stars is fair. Id like to think we visited on an off night. Starters wrongly described on menu, only told when ordering. Main sold out that's just unfortunate. Same with desert but weren't told until we started to order. First red flag was the chef carrying the bag of frozen chips . I'm sorry fish and chips at that price needs homemade chips. Starter was ok haggis was on the cold side and pastry was soggy but in the not cooked way. Main was interesting but not in the good way, monkfish wellington, the prawns had been blended or pureed together to make a rubbery texture that stuck to the chewy monkfish. Then there was the beef gravy ....dish didn't work in the slightest. Sticky toffee pudding was ok but hard to eat from the ridiculous bowl wasn't the best but wasn't the worst was hoping desert would save the day. Drinks orders slow and service was just non existent. Overall disappointing experience can't say I'd rush back far better places to eat in St Andrews for both food and service in my opinion.

We went to Bothy today and it was awful. There was no one to greet us as we walked in and we had to call out for some service. I ordered grilled haddock and when it arrived it was significantly raw in the middle. It was taken away and a replacement served which was also raw in the middle. To serve raw fish once is bad but to do it twice was a disgrace. I advised i didn't want a third attempt and left without having had anything. The waiter advised he wouldn't charge us for the meal which considering i hadn't had one was the least he could do.

Have eaten here twice now and both times the service has been very slow and lacklustre. Asked for water at our table but it never came. Waitress took ages to come back with the desert menu and no napkins were even provided with our food. The restaurant itself is very nice and so is the food in general. But even the Sunday roast had raw potatoes and parsnips which was really disappointing, especially when they were so visibly undercooked and yet is a popular dish. Overall, a fairly poor experience.

I'm surprised this restaurant has only four stars. I dined here last year when visiting Saint Andrews. I was really taken by this restaurant, mostly the menu and of course the staff was very friendly and perfect really. I had an amazing fish chowder with homemade bread that really seem to fit the setting in St. Andrews. We also had other fish dishes. We liked it so much we actually went twice, even though we only had two nights in Saint Andrews. Anyway, it's a fond memory, so much so I wanted to visit the website a year later. We visited on a Sunday night, cosy restaurant, busy, with a good atmosphere! My first comment is a personal preference; I don't dislike dogs, but I don't like dogs in restaurants, there was a terrier two tables down, it didn't bark often but it was disturbing when it did, at least it was on the floor. As we were leaving, another dog came in and was sat at a booth, not on the floor, but sitting up on the seat. The barman brought over our bottle of red. Comically, he didn't know how to use the corkscrew, he made hard word of it but got the cork out in the end without any bits of cork in the wine. The wine was excellent! My wife sent the haggis starter back because it was stone cold, a new one arrived shortly after, she described it as delicious! Minor point, when the replacement was delivered the waitress said she would check if it was OK, she didn't. I had the Cullen Skink, it was excellent. I ordered the lamb roast but was sent the wrong dish, it was fixed quickly and tasted great. My wife's roast beef was delivered without a Yorkshire pudding. It was quickly sorted. Finally, and most damning comment concerns the roast beef, it was tough and almost impossible to cut and really, really chewy. On the plus side the veg was delicious. All of our issues were resolved promptly, but overall, we didn't really enjoy our experience and probably would not return.

The neighbouring table ordered a burger. The burger came with lettuce, bun and no burger. The other table came in half an hour later than us and recieved their food before us. The menu said seafood sharing platter but it was only for one. Half of the company ordered two sharing platters, the other half one. On face value, an honest mistake. When it was pointed out we were told “you only ordered one”. No suggestion on how to fix it. We ordered a Caesar salad without anchovies but it came with anchovies. When we pointed it out the waiter checked her notes and protested. When a situation like that occurs you “just fix”. The seafood and shrimps appeared to be your generic Tesco frozen food. The lamb was severely over cooked and tough. The carrots were raw and even tougher. The bread for starters was stale and a at least a day old. We waited for half an hour between starters and our mains. This was hopefully a bad day for them but a restaurant of this calibre can’t afford mishap like this. Be careful with this place

I went for dinner and had a fantastic time. There was live music, which was great fun. I had the pork loin, which was fantastic, and my girlfriend had the risotto, which looked great - and both were very good portion sizes. The service was perfect! Thank you Cara! Allround a fab experience.

The restaurant was very nice and pleasant and the food was very good, with one nuance, the broccoli soup of the day was so spicy that it could have been anything else, we didn't notice the flavor. Very good second course

The worst restaurant in St. Andrews , waited 30 mins to get the drinks order taken , waited 30 more with no drinks arriving, then ordered food and was then told there was no fish available. Shambolic and DISGUSTING!

We had an incredible experience. The food was amazing and good value, the staff were very accommodating, and the environment and aesthetic were fantastic too. Our waitress, Athi, was brilliant and helped make our evening even better.

Had coffee, they didn't have any deserts, the service was poor. Have been a few times in the past at Dollhouse, no comparison. Still has nice atmosphere

Ugh! One star is too much. This place is dysfunctional and the food is awful. Advice - avoid at all costs and book somewhere else

I was visiting St. Andrew’s with a friend and we loved the aesthetic, and menu which looked amazing. They were busy, but accommodated us. The service overall was good, but communication could have been better. The water was unexpectedly pricey, and there was a surprise service fee at the end. I ordered the deep fried brie appetizer. Our server mentioned it was small, but could be shared. It was even smaller than expected….It tasted good, but wouldn’t order again due to the size. Definitely not worth £7. For the main course I ordered the Squash and Feta Wellington. I kept eating and looking for the feta which I did not find. The beets that were on the menu description were also missing. Again, portion was small. Left hungry. The cappuccino was excellent, definitely the best part of my meal. I’d like to be clear that I’m not being critical of the price, because I would have been happy to pay if the food lived up to the expectation set by the price, atmosphere and description on the website.

A bizarrely bad experience. The restaurant is cute and friendly enough, and they managed to fit us in without a reservation, albeit with a half hour wait. And the food was actually okay, but 70% of it wasn’t what we ordered. And 100% of it was cold. The loin of wild deer with fondant potato and creamed neeps sounded delicious. A shame then that it was actually served with crushed potatoes and carrots, without any acknowledgement or apology from the staff. Disappointing, but perhaps not the end of the world. That came when the charred tenderstem broccoli side arrived and turned out to be green beans! Which weren’t even on the menu. Again, not a word from the staff until we pointed out the mistake. But by now we were too hungry to quibble, as we’d been waiting quite some time (judging by the lukewarm state of the food, far longer than was necessary). Oh, and the ‘wilted greens’ that were to come with the chicken looked and tasted suspiciously like chargrilled white cabbage, but whatever. And so to the final deception: the wine. The fairly unpleasant Malbec we were served was simply not what was advertised on the menu, which judging by the glass we’d had while waiting at the bar would have actually been quite nice. Once more no mention of this switch from the staff until we highlighted the discrepancy with what appeared on the bill. Apparently it was just tonight’s substitution. But of course. And at exactly the same price, what are the chances! All in all, a very odd game of ingredient roulette, more akin to a supermarket delivery that swaps choc ices for chocolate ice cream, but without the handy email notification. I appreciate that we arrived towards the end of the evening and the kitchen had maybe run out of some things, but please just have the courtesy to say something and maybe give us the opportunity to order something else. Sorry, would not recommend.

We were here to do the archery and air rifles, and the the clay shooting. What a fun morning. We were put in a group of 6 the instructors were both excellent. The gentleman on the clays and the young man on the arrows and air rifles. We had a tea and a cake before driving home. Excellent morning.

Visited with my family last night and had a beautiful meal. As always the food was gorgeous and service was fabulous. Suzy that served us was very nice and helpful and such a gem with my children too. Nothing was a problem to her or the other staff. It was busy when we were in, good to see & we all had a lovely evening. We will be back soon! As always a great night out and fab food! Thank you!

Having always enjoyed meals at The Doll’s House we imagined this was a mere name change, and were drawn in by the offer of a reasonably priced set menu all day Wednesday and Thursday. Inside the decor was smart enough and the waitress pleasant. However they were unaware of the set menu offer clearly advertised outside, and then said they’d still put our meal through at that price so long as we didn’t order anything expensive ! This wasn’t easy as five dishes were already sold out by 7.30, leaving little choice. The soups were ok, as was my deer, but my wife’s ratatouille was the most ridiculous item I’ve ever seen offered as main dish- three slices of undercooked courgette, a few tomatoes swimming in a watery sauce. We skipped desserts and were presented with a bill of £72, the manager having forgotten her promise. On appeal she applied a discount, but £58 was still very expensive for an experience that could charitably be described as poor. I’d steer well clear - there is no shortage of places to eat in St Andrews.
