Wow! What a wonderful place. We broke down on our way to England and pulled in here. With an 8hr journey ahead and broken down, safe to say we were not in a great mood. However we got some food and put up here for a while. The food was incredible and super fast! The staff were AMAZING! We actually ENJOYED being broken down for a moment! They let us stay and keep our luggage in the foyer while our car was collected and we waited for our replacement. We ended up staying hours which we were treated to a coffee on the house for our troubles. Such an incredible experience which was really touching considering how our day is going. If this is local to you I would recommend this place anyway based on food and atmosphere - I personally witnessed some families really enjoying their time. It is worth noting this place is dog friendly and there is is a FREE function room. So with all this considered plus the great staff- 10/10 from me. Thanks!!!

Our family met here for a Christmas catch up and dinner and we were really happy with the service provided by the staff who were very accommodating and always came back to check up on us for drinks and to clear the table. The food itself was fantastic and we especially enjoyed the amazing Yorkshire puddings that was served with dinner. Definitely recommend!!

Came for the Christmas party night. It was quite empty, which surprised me, but once we got the food, I could see why. I had the festive salmon meal. Salmon was nice, BUT the roast potatoes were like Aunt Bessies, definitely not made fresh, and the portion was tiny. Ditto for the veg - all warmed up from frozen, which is rubbish when you're serving sprouts. The festive Turkey burger was minuscule, with about 15 chips on the side - more like a kids portion. Not enough for the men that ordered it. Also the camembert topping was missing. The chairs were old and dirty - a bit off putting to be honest. On the plus side, the service was very good. Staff were very attentive and kept coming back for extra drinks orders : something which can often be lacking in other pubs. The DJ was good, the karaoke was good, and the festive bingo was also a nice touch. If they could sort out the food, I would come back, but with two other pubs nearby that serve up home cooked fresh food, I think for the time being we will be going there.

Family reunion. Really enjoyable. Food/drink great. Staff efficient and knowledgeable but also very friendly. Excellent visit all round

Had a lovely family meal tonight. There was a slight delay on our meals but our lovely waitress claire made us aware it was due to large Christmas party tables being in. When the food came, it was lovely and hot and our children enjoyed the Christmas music and all the decorations as we had been to visit santa before dinner. We will definitely be back

First time having breakfast with santa. Attention to detail was perfect/ children's gifts on the table to santa gifts. Santa was a pure joy to watch.he took time to talk to the children. We never felt rush/no queuing for santa was a bonus. Service was great /polite and welcoming. Food was delicious 😋

we were at The Compass with my son wife 4 grandchildren and my youngest son it was christmas with Santa . The breakfast was really good and hot excellent service by Scott who made all breakfast for 70 people . Excellent service from Laura Beth Jodie and of course Santa well done all one happy family

Service pleasant but unacceptably slow - we only wanted 2 fish and chips. Sadly not the first time - to be honest - generally all round poor. A free drink just doesn’t cut. We actually came in to book a family birthday get together for 20 people for couple weeks time - obviously we didn’t. Unlikely to be back.

Staff are lovely, food is amazing (I highly recommend the steak pie). I visit frequently as it's amazing value for money too.

We've just eaten the most amazing and huge Sunday roast - large portions and yummy 😋 the sticky toffee pudding to die for! Staff helpful and happy, service quick. All in all very enjoyable and worth a return trip.

Just popped in to meet a friend for coffee this time but previously had food... which for the budget was pretty much what you 3xpect.. if not a little better with the staff serving at tables. This is not a fancy Michelin rated restaurant so don't expect miracles... but it is a pleasant place to come with friends and family.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was fairly quiet, it took longer than expected to order the food. The drinks arrived in good time. There was a lot of things on menu unavailable. Food was just okay, The steaks were tough, the special menu portions were very small, and the service was just average.

We were last here six years ago and we're glad to say things have improved since then. ( it wasn't a good visit six years ago). We arrived without booking and managed to get a table. The servers were over to get our drinks and food order, which all came out soon after. The food and drinks were really nice, lattes hot, food hot and well cooked. One small niggle on my plate was that the fries were slightly over cooked and tasted like the oil needed changing, but other than that a very nice meal. Their sticky toffee pudding was delicious, not too sweet but just the right amount of balance. The servers were all polite, friendly, prompt, and well presented. A credit to the establishment. The toilets were clean and tidy. There is plenty of free parking outside.

We both enjoyed our meals here. We ordered the Katsu Chicken, and a sirloin steak. Both tasted lovely. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Would recommend this place for a bite to eat.

Called in for lunch and we both opted for the pie. It did take a while to arrive, however it was delicious and worth the wait. The staff are really friendly and attentive, and there's a nice atmosphere. It's also dog friendly and they will provide water if you want.

Popped into the compass today for food, first time we have been and it didn’t disappoint. Great menu with lots to choose from. Staff all friendly we will definitely be back

Just a question about using Blue Light Card.Your website states 20%,however only offered 15% when paying bill.

Went for a family meal on Tuesday with my child and family. Had a fantastic meal. Food was great and tasty. Staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us. On receipt on bill staff name was Claire. Her and her colleagues were fantastic

I Ordered the mixed grill which was probably the worst I’ve ever had. The gammon steak, egg and pineapple were fine but the rest of the dish was inedible. The waitress staff were very apologetic and removed it from our bill which I appreciated.

We both ordered the Hunters Chicken and it arrived within a couple of minutes. The chicken was pretty horrible and we ate the chips but left the chicken. The waitress didn’t ask why we’d both left more than half of the chicken. Was still hungry so had the Eton Mess which was OK…

The compass is nice family and pet orientated place to go for afternoon or evening and we go Thursday to a quiz night great fun prizes to be won very enjoyable

2 of our meals were fine but my fish and chips were not nice. The first meal it was like reheated fish from the day before and hardly any fish, and very very greasy. Grease was floating on the plate. Replaced by freshly cooked fish but again was not good. Greasy, greasy, greasy. Also they did not have carrots and broccoli could only give us peas. Not impressed at all. The service was really good though.

The reason for the 2star review is because upon arriving at The Compass we waited 15 min for our drinks , 40min for our starter and our mains were taking forever to arrive We have been here before and it was a very nice experience but sadly this time was very disappointing especially as it was my birthday , I really think if your food is going to take such a long time it would be coman courtesy to explain this to the customers and maybe you wouldn't have customers walking out like we did .

Staff very friendly, food was not good. Starter of prawn and chorizo, chorizo was over cooked and crispy. As for he beef Sunday lunch, oh my goodness. Yorkshire pudding was brick hard, beef was so tough my knife wouldn't cut it. The broccoli was the same. However I wasn't charged. Wouldn't recommend.

This is our local restaurant so eat here quite frequently. It's a relaxed place to enjoy a bite to eat and the staff are always incredibly friendly. Service can be on the slow side, but I prefer a more leisurely pace when out enjoying a meal so never find this to be an issue and the staff are usually good at advising if there is going to be any delay. I've never had a bad meal here, but do find the quality of the food can be variable. The items on the specials menu, the signature dishes and the pies are super delicious, whereas the pub classics and grill items tend to be no better than average. Toilets are in much need of refurbishment.

After the muck up afternoon tea where the company website states 48hrs and Compass 7 days notice for this. They cancelled the booking. I had paid £10 deposit and what a farce to get that back, I thought mistakes can happen& booked again for the family (no deposit required this time) and received an email that morning that they had cancelled the booking without any reason. This was last chance and won’t be booking again. Discussed the above with someone who said they have a habit of cancelling bookings. What a shocking way to treat customers

Been twice now when visiting family and can't fault it. Great service, friendly staff and good tasty pub grub

We sat down for a family dinner at 1730 where we order our food and drinks. Drinks arrived then the starter at 1820. One hour later our main course was eventually served at 1920, the food was below average, kids food was cold. This was unacceptable timings to wait. I honestly think they were cooking and serving a table at a time. We spoke to a member of staff, we were told it was because we had the starter that the times were so long between meals! Do they think we were born yesterday! Shocking excuse! They took one round of drinks from the bill. We will not be back and will not be recommending this restaurant to any family, friends or neighbours.

Came here with my auntie on a Thursday night at 6:30pm. We walked in and was told it was going to be a struggle to get a table due to quiz event at 8pm. The restaurant was 1/3 full. The member of staff did get us a table (high one beside fire door) The colleague who served was friendly, I ordered the run steak and my auntie the steak pie. About 10 minutes later he came back to tell us it was sold out and did I want something different. He offered me the sirloin. I ordered it rare. Food was served to us about 40 mins later. My steak was well done. I tried to get the attention of staff but nobody was available and nobody checked back on us. I ended up eating what I could cause we had waited so long. When they cleared the plates I explained what had happened and the girl was lovely and apologised. Said she would take it off the bill but when we went to pay I was to tell them to speak to her so they would take it off the bill. We did order dessert. It took about 20 mins to arrived. The quiz had started at 8pm. We got our desert in the first round. The restaurant was still not full and still about 1/3 of tables free when we left. I appreciate they did take the steak off the bill. It was more that it couldn’t be rectified when I was actually eating my meal. The quiz is extremely loud and other patrons were telling us to not talk whilst we were eating. I appreciate the quiz was on but this is also a restaurant and we half been in for two hours for two courses. Highly unlikely I will return. This was my first time in a while and we still spend our money.

Popped in for a quick lunch, Service was fantastic and super speedy. Adam and Chelsea made sure to look after us well! Will definitely be back as food was amazing!

Update 19 Aug 24 - visited with family as this is were they could go in walking distance. Have to say things were much better than my previous visit. There was a good choice of food, though some strange combinations, at least to our table. Service was good and has been changed from bar to table service, the kitchen did mess up a couple of our requests. All of us enjoyed our meal. Menu changed from last time I was here, and not for the better. Struggled to find something within my dietary requirements. It was a family outing, and a few had trouble with what to eat. All definitely fast food, and 98% of menu calorific. Staff were great, and service was good, apart from some of our group who had to wait ages for their food. Disabled parking at side if building, and not well lit as the spot lights weren't on when we drove in. This is a well visited establishment, and obviously suits many. Though I won't be back unless it's a necessity.

We go to Burntisland once a year with the kids for a day at the funfair and beach, and for the last 3 years, we've stopped for dinner on the way home at The Compass, it's exactly what you want after a long day, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The staff are fantastic and can't ever do enough for you. We have two boys, and they love the food, there's lots of options, including vegetarian choices for both kids and adults. This year unplanned, We were lucky enough to choose the day of the 10th birthday party for The Compass, and I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere was more welcoming than usual, and that says a lot. We actually felt like vips! There were gorgeous decorations everywhere, live music, and then a Dj/karaoke. We were looked after by the lovely Claire, and she really carried the vibe on. She was great. Our youngest finished both his main and pudding for the first time in I don't know how many months, props to the chef/s. I think i may need some tips 😅 We hope everyone else had as fab a time as we did, we can't wait to be back already 😁🫶🏻

Nice pub food, good light lunches and very pleasant staff

Came for a meal however, never actually got in. Waited 5 minutes for a staff member to speak to us, and she then said 2 minutes and proceeded to take an order of a large group and made us wait at the door. So we just left.

Went for dinner early wasn’t busy so ordered 2 children’s meal deals ( starter main & desert) and 2 adults mains took a while for drinks to come then another 20+minutes for the kids starters (2 bits of focaccia) we then were waiting over half an hour so asked what was happening told once we get starters we had to wait as our order goes to the bottom of the list ? Never heard such a load of rubbish in my days wasn’t busy so left and took my kids for a takeaway as we had things planed for 7 and would never have made it. Will not be back so disappointed as they are normally good think short staffed and goodness knows were the manager was.

We were booked in @2pm on Friday 21st june for afternoon tea booked 10 days in advance 4 people for my mums 80th birthday Food was nice service was OK but we waiting 55 mins before we were served and then we had to ask for tea then butter and there was no clotted cream, I got the impression they were not prepared for us eventhough I'd had confirmation I know this is a new addition to the menu so there will be teething problems overall it was good value for money and tasty just need to get the fine details sorted

We visited as a family of 3 without a reservation and were accommodated at one of the last remaining tables. Service was good and provided by friendly staff. Food was excellent and prices reasonable. Would be happy to visit again.

The food was fairly bland, but also fairly affordable. It was not the best meal I’ve ever had but it also wasn’t “bad” by any means. The burger was a tad dry and the chips weren’t salted (which is easy to fix as there is salt at the table), and the rest of my party similarly said the food was a bit on the blank side. All the staff we interacted with were lovely though, especially our server! They also have free internet access which is a plus. The atmosphere was quite standard I’d say. It was vaguely similar to how it feels to go to an American diner. Not bad, but also not good. I’d really like to highlight how good the staff was though, as I said before they were all lovely! Very helpful and the gentleman serving our table was quite chatty but in a nice way.

I visited this pub for a quick bite to eat with my sister and her young granddaughter a couple of years ago. The food was good and the atmosphere, especially being dog friendly was lovely. Yesterday I had a table booked for six, all old school friends. We had a delicious meal and the best of service. The old school chums were well impressed. Thank you for a wonderful lunch. We were treated like royalty.

Been many times before first time in a few months definitely the worst experience the service was fine pleasant enough they have changed from going to the bar to order to table service. I preferred going to the bar ,the food was pretty bad tasteless, I had the steak with mash and side af veg it look and tasted of frozen veg and some sause on it ,not nice unfortunately, the atmosphere was terrible playing country music in the background ,I'm not sure if you are catering fir a older customer but the tables that were getting used was 90% pensioners, it just wasn't nice for a family dinner 😢

Lovely camembert to start, huge lamb shank and amazing puddings. Our waitress Katy was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for her.

You won't find steak if you're shopping for burgers. it's all relative. Changed so many times over the years. It's not my cup of tea, but food is ok for price. The starter Nachos were good. Has a bit of a staff canteen feel about the place, rows with big tables. Staff on the whole friendly enough. I'm not knocking it. it's just not for me.

Superb service and food was delicious tooo. Kristina and Chelsea have served us, and they were really lovely,checked on us a few times and were helpful with any questions we had. I had Balmoral chicken which was chicken breast with haggis,potato mash and sweede&carrot mash and served with whisky creamy sauce(sauce was soo delicious!!!) Partner had Sunday beef roast with massive Yorkshire puddings and two small boys had Hunter's chicken. All food was delicious.If we are ever back in Edinburgh or area we will go back again!!!10/10 :)

Up from England seeing family and they took us here. Couldn't fault it at all. Brilliant value, great food and every one of the staff seemed happy to help. And seeing the dogs in the place was a bonus. I spent half my time looking and smiling at the dogs. Will definitely go back.

Absolutely amazing, staff are so friendly and accommodating, food was delicious with lots to choose from. We had 15 off us on a Saturday night and food came out smoothly with no delays, everyone was topped up on drinks with no waits. 100% will be back. Also has a great selection of gluten free options 😀

Since new management the place has a different great vibe and your made to feel part of a family. Food was excellent as was the service particularly Adam and Chloe, will return most definitely.

Lovely place for a meal, I noticed the staff greeted all customers like Friends, one of our waitresses was Chloe, very helpful and cheerful, definitely an asset to your restaurant, food was tasty and well presented, not too expensive, would highly recommend 😋

So over a 8/9 years ago myself and my late wife found ourselves coming to this establishment more and more with a Greene King Pub/Bistro you definitely get what you pay for. The establishment had a change of management some time ago & I will say it was definitely for the better they are very friendly and the banter is great. Last June as the management team know I lost my wife and they have done nothing but look after me and my family/friends since then. I would even go as far as they are becoming friends which is so very rare in the hospitality industry these days. The GM is so friendly towards my parents when I bring them in he always has nice banter with my father and thinks my mother is a sweetheart which is so lovely to hear from someone outside my family. Food wise is always a treat when the Grill is working I will say though "A Ripeye Steak" would be a lovely addition to the Main Menu plus it would go really well with the tasty Mash Potato & Greens. The other thing I think would be welcome is a guest Ale or lager every month to go along with the spirit of the mouth. They once sold Innies Gunn original on tap and unfortunately it's something I miss whenever I go in for a drink or to have with my main meal. Hopefully they can bring it back. Overall I think the management team are 2nd to none thank you for taking care of me and loved one and treating me as one of your locals it's a great feeling everytime I enter the building. Enjoyed a lunch today, it was lovely, good food and attentive service.

It was very busy, to the point where it was a while before the food arrived but in fairness, it was very busy. The food was great when it did come. Great portion size. Love that it's very dog friendly, they give your dog a bowl of chicken for a low price. Staff were rushed off their feet, very hard working but always smiling. Great atmosphere, can't say enough about this place. Clean, well lit, music, live TV for sports, prices are as you would expect for quality food and drink. 10/10

Great service from all the staff

Me and my partner were just in with our dog. Food was really good. I had the beef bourgeon or however you spell it and he had chicken Balmoral and we both really enjoyed it. Starters were good too. Great prices compared to st.andrews where we come from. Waitresses were very attentive too definitely be back

Decent enough food in a pub setting.... part of a national chain of pubs. Service is good, staff are pleasant and helpful especially the manager. Doggo friendly.

Very disappointing meal. Half the dishes not available, no vegan options left, so one member of our party had no food. We waited almost an hour for food to arrive (had to ask where it was) though pub not busy. Food didn’t look appetising - the Hunter chicken (my third choice as other choices no longer available) appeared partially raw although I was assured it was cooked. I was offered another dish instead but as we’d already waited an hour, I declined. The salad garnish was ropey - old iceberg lettuce. Would have walked out had our kids not been starving, so stayed so they could eat. Staff not bothered (apart from one helpful lady but by then it was too late). It’s a lovely looking place but wouldn’t recommend eating there based on my experience.

Overall food was good and well presented.

The staff need to be recognised for their service and going above and beyond in their care. I collapsed within the compass , all the staff were excellent, Mikey and Adam with the help of a wonderful nurse who was celebrating her anniversary, took great care of me getting me into the recovery position until I was able to be taken to A&E. The other staff were immense in keeping the restaurant servicing food and drinks. Thank you again
