Dolls House Restaurant in Fife

Having always enjoyed meals at The Doll’s House we imagined this was a mere name change, and were drawn in by the offer of a reasonably priced set menu all day Wednesday and Thursday. Inside the decor was smart enough and the waitress pleasant. However they were unaware of the set menu offer clearly advertised outside, and then said they’d still put our meal through at that price so long as we didn’t order anything expensive ! This wasn’t easy as five dishes were already sold out by 7.30, leaving little choice. The soups were ok, as was my deer, but my wife’s ratatouille was the most ridiculous item I’ve ever seen offered as main dish- three slices of undercooked courgette, a few tomatoes swimming in a watery sauce. We skipped desserts and were presented with a bill of £72, the manager having forgotten her promise. On appeal she applied a discount, but £58 was still very expensive for an experience that could charitably be described as poor. I’d steer well clear - there is no shortage of places to eat in St Andrews.

Two couples on a Saturday night, food was superb and live music was excellent also. Service was attentive and overall a great experience. We will be back soon

We have been visiting the Dolls House off and on for a few years now. This time was for my wife and daughter's joint birthday (though really for my wife as my daughter is just 11 and the official birthday was the next day). We love the decor, William Morris meets France. We had soup to start with, celeriac and truffle. It was perfect - just a hint of celeriac but enough to taste it without it being too vegetably - a spicy warmth that was appropriate for winter and some crisp pea shoots as garnish. The tandoori sea bass was novel and, again, well judged and far more subtle than it may sound. The service was friendly and efficient and the price worth it. The espresso cocktail was smooth. I hope this restaraunt goes from strength to strength so we can continue to enjoy it.

This was an unforgettable experience. Warm, cozy and friendly vibes, excellent food! Garry made us feel welcomed and taken care of. His excellent service and recommendations were uniquely tailored to our expecations and it was definitely a hit! He made us his signature cocktails based on our vague preferences and no one could have guessed it better. Garry's positive attitude and a charming smile coupled with a great food made our visit a memory to truly cherish.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Doll's house. The food and service was excellent and we will definitely be back when it reopens in the Spring.

Nice to see this restaurant still focusing on the food - a real shame however they don’t care as much about the wine. I ordered their special which was venison and it was lovely. I asked what red wine they had and the waitress named 2-3, of which one was a Malbec that I ordered. Now my fault in the first instance in that when it came I should of sent it back, It was very slightly on the turn, It tasted okay however, and it was lunch time and the food had arrived so I stuck with it. Staff were lovely by the way and when the bill came I promptly paid including a decent tip. We then look at the receipt to discover that the one glass of Malbec was charged at £19. ( the special venison dish was only £18). I challenged the staff on the cost of the wine, and asked if it was fresh. My suggestion was that if they were charging this amount for wine then they should take extra care to make sure it was good. The reply was a half hearted apology and an acceptance that the wine was had been opened longer than it should of to still serve. (Especially at £19 a glass). Action by the Dolls House - zero! Come on Dolls House, don’t let yourself down by over charging for poor wine and then when someone complains do nothing about it.

We were overcharged on Christmas day and we are still waiting for this error to be rectified. This is not good enough !

By far the best Festive meal we have had out ever! Lovely starters and beautifully cooked turkey with all the trimmings - great portions too!

We spent a night in St Andrews and chose The Dolls House for dinner and had a fantastic evening. Garry and Kathryn really looked after us and made sure we had everything we needed. We had the crab bhajis and the duck to start, followed by the monkfish and prawn curry and the venison mince and dumplings for the main. All were fab, very tasty. For dessert we had the cheese which was very generous in size and the tiramisu which incorporated a lovely coffee sorbet. Kathryn recommended the Dolls Fizz cocktail which definitely hit the spot and a lovely Espresso Martini at the end finished it off! The live music was great and it was nice to see the customers interacting with the band. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely restaurant and can't wait to go back!

Great little find, we were served by Garry. He was an absolute delight, great banter and great menu knowledge. We had just come in from the cold and we’re kind offered the seats closest to the radiators so we could warm up. We had the chicken schnitzel & the monkfish curry which were amazing. We happened up this gem of a restaurant whilst walking round St Andrews on a busy friday night. Despite no reservation we were welcomed with open arms and a gleaming smile. Upon being seated we chose from the small but well condidered menu. The food was fabulous and very reasonably priced too. Thoroughly recommended.

We had a terrible meal here a few moments ago. The food was really poor. We ordered crab bhajis which did not taste like any crab. Wasabi & Sesame Chicken Schnitzel did not have any wasabi or sesame.
