We enjoyed The Cottage Kitchen so much on day one we returned the following day. First day we both had “ The Wee Breakfast” with magnificent lattes, the cakes looked so good we had to indulge Day 2 .. Eggs Balmoral was fantastic…. Scone/Haggis/Poached Eggs …….mmm The staff were brilliant and attentive…. Don’t miss it when in St Andrews.

I had a beetroot and avocado sandwich which was inedible. The beetroot mush had soaked into the bread and there was no sign of any avocado at all! Left very disappointed and hungry and it was very expensive to make matters worse.

What a wonderful little place to grab a bite to eat and relax! I have heard great things about this establishment and I must say it exceeded all expectations. The element that made it for us was the staff; young Katie was a great host and made us feel comfortable and welcomed. She is polite, kind and funny and put us right at ease! We will definitely be back.

We regularly visit St Andrews and always make the Cottage Kitchen our first stop, it is fantastic, the food is great right through the menu, for our little one too who is sometimes a fussy eater it is always a success! The coffees are also a favourite. Always great staff, service with a smile and such a great central location within the town. Cannot recommend the Cottage Kitchen highly enough.

I ordered a beetroot, avocado and chickpea sandwich, and what I got was two pieces of shop-bought bread, with a thimble-sized amount of smashed avocado spread across them. As for the beetroot, it was as if they took some juice from a jar and sprinkled it on the bread to make it pink. There were about 7 chickpeas placed inside the sandwich, and for some reason, coriander. The vegetable crisps on the side were soggy, and despite asking for it to be vegan, the salad dressing clearly wasn’t. And they charged £7.50 for this even though it must have cost less than a pound to make. My dad had Cullen skink which smelled awful and gave him a funny tummy. The cream was almost certainly off. We complained and the waitress apologised and took both off the bill. My mum had macaroni cheese which she said was fine, and the coffee and overall service were good. They just need to provide a much better vegan option and to make sure their ingredients haven’t gone bad.

Visited last year and loved it. This time, not so much. The outside tables are so unsteady my husband lost half his coffee. Said coffee was weak, he wasn't given any milk, sugar or a teaspoon. Daughter's chi latte wasn't the nicest and her toast was cold. My eggs Benedict with haggis was sadly lacking, plastic muffin, solid-cooked poached egg and the hollandaise sauce was bland. Husband's scrambled eggs were good though.

I booked out the Cottage Kitchen for my birthday party last weekend. It was an excellent experience. The food was delicious, the table they had prepared for all 26 guests was superb, and great service too. Organizing the event was very easy, they sent me the menus several weeks in advance so I would have time to choose what foods were to be served. I was also really grateful as when the dinner was over, they did the entire cleaning up process which was very greatly appreciated. Overall a 10/10 experience, I would highly recommend.

I had booked Cottage Kitchen out our works Christmas Dinner for 21 people. I spoke to the owner, Grant and the manager beforehand to help organise this. They were very fast with response to e-mails and provided a menu for us to order from which contained a good range of foods. We pre-ordered our food as a group. The venue itself is very nice - small and cozy vibes. We had the whole place rented out too which was good because we could play our own music and sing as loud as we want. The waiter was grand and the food was really nice. We had charcuterie board to start, then beef for main and then pie for dessert. It was £35pp +10% service charge which i think is very reasonably priced considering how much some places are charging for a christmas dinner these days. Overall, would recommend - it is a nice local business and we should be supporting!!!

Had breakfast here and enjoyed it very much but the tea was not nice at all, far too strong and wasnt served with hot water on the side. The cafe appears to reserve a lot of tables for later in the day when they could be used a few times before that, or as its just a small place dont reserve as its always busy anyway.

Stopped in for light lunch and the food was very tasty. Most of us had soup or Cullen skink or sandwich. When ordering we said we would order coffees after as likely have cake . After having finished waiting to order waitress came up and said do you want to pay… we advised we were waiting to order coffee etc. She came back after we had them and asked again did we want to pay . We were taking excessive time we would have been quicker if service was better. Positives though food was good and dog friendly throughout

My wife had Cullen Skink and reported it was most agreeable. I had a much lauded mac and cheese (£11 for mac and cheese is a lot) The menu stressed their secret 3 cheese sauce recipe. Honestly, it should stay a secret. It was a bland tasteless watery sauce. The crust was anything but and the whole dish was barely warm. Very disappointing. I should have sent it back but us Brits are not very good at that. The tea was good and strong though. Dog friendly and they offer a doggy treat menu for £3 (which is basically a strip of beef Jerky). Over all - not an enjoyable experience (waiting staff were lovely, no complaints there) and it is all ridiculously overpriced.

We stopped in - me, my wife, our 3yo and his grandad - for lunch. We were seated outside. No menus, had to order via a website/app and pay right away. Which is complicated. Loads of stuff 'not available', so we got macaroni cheese x4. easy. Our drinks came. About 45 mins later - our toddler freezing and feral at this point - we went in and said "we have to move our car soon. And if you know kids, you know we can't feed a toddler in 10 mins". "So sorry - it'll be 3 mins".That came and went and we called it quits, put our jackets on and asked for a refund. They told us "leave us your details and we'll transfer the money to you later" which we didn't have much faith in given the circumstances. I said "you can do a refund through your POS now surely", they said "well, because you pay through the app, it's complicated". We had to hang around while the manager made a phone call to get our order cancelled/ refunded, which took 10-15 mins.As I stood waiting outside, they were turning people away cos they hadn't any cutlery.Tech is cool, but this app thing is a solution looking for a problem. notebooks and a till thank you.

Ordered soup for us both and macaroni for hubby and fish cakes with creamed leeks. Sounds good Eh. However we were sat outside in the tent as no tables inside. We started eating our soup which was nice then the young guy came with our mains !!! Still taking the soup so covered our food over with the lates as the guy did not hang around long enough to say we didn’t want too meals at the same time. We finished our soup. My hubby ate some of his alright macaroni. I went to eat my food which was cold. I took it back they said they would bring it hot in a few minutes. 15 minutes later and no sign of my food. Guy clearing the other tables said do you want anything else. I said re waiting on food and not to bother now. He said do you want cakes !!! I said first and second course should not come out together. He said ithat how they do it. I said common sense should prevail. We r lost for words. Was so looking forward to going but won’t be back and as we have a static caravan here in St Andrews will tell everyone. So if we had ordered pudding all three courses would come at the same time !!! No gesture of goodwill on leaving either. Whoever owns this place needs to sort this.

Tried this place off the back Trip Advisor reviews and wish we’d gone elsewhere. Odd arrangement that you have to order online by scanning the QR code - makes it seem very in-personable. Three emails before we’d even got our food - tad excessive! Ordered hot drinks and cake, I had the vegan chocolate cake & Roobois tea which was lovely, my husband on the other hand ordered the Victoria sponge cake and it came collapsed on the plate. The waitress did acknowledge this, but I am staggered they had the nerve to serve it like that. It looked like half a portion, and its broken as they we’re trying to cut it. My husband was gob smacked. It apparently didn’t taste that good either!Overall - wish we’d tried somewhere else.

We were in for breakfast this morning, waited 30 minutes before asking how long our breakfast would be- there was no issue we were just going to order more drinks if it was going to be a while longer. The waitress was very abrupt and defensive saying this was the normal time to wait! We had our breakfast then the same waitress passed, after we said ‘excuse me’ to ask for the bill, she put both her hands up in a stop motion and told us to wait a minute! She was very abrupt and we were astounded at her rudeness towards us as customers. We are locals too, not a holiday maker they won’t return. After 5 minutes of being ignored I asked another waitress for the bill and told her what had happened to us- she apologised and said that behaviour was not acceptable. Shame as all the other girls were lovely. However, this girls mannerisms need perfecting.

This is an absolute gem of a place in St Andrews! We were given a table outside which is a lovely courtyard, and dog-friendly is a bonus! We had our two children so they both ordered macaroni cheese, and we ordered the Shrimp Po’Boy and Steak Philly sandwiches which were both amazing - the prawns were juicy and the pickled slaw was so good!! I didn’t think I’d manage to eat the side of sweet potato fries I’d ordered after seeing the size of our mains but they were so crispy and perfectly cooked, they got demolished too! The kids macaroni portion was really good and the garlic bread was homemade and lovely.Service was top notch, very friendly welcoming team and even little touches like having plastic cups for the kids to use is really good. A really pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, could’ve easily sat there all afternoon! Can’t wait to go back again and try the other options on the menu because the choices are great, it was hard to pick just one! Thank you to The Cottage Kitchen!

Had been looking forward to brunch here after getting a recommendation from a trusted friend. They must have been having a bad day. They asked that we order by using the QR code via our phones to see the menu and pay. It took ages to get connected to the poor Internet connection and it kept dropping making seeing the menu and paying a complete pain. My friend had finished her scone and my tea was cold before my thoroughly unimpressive brunch arrived. For the £8.95 price I would have expected a bit more care and frankly more hollandaise than salad dressing. They did bring extra hollandaise when asked but by then we both were regretting coming in at all. The staff didn't seem to particularly care and it was all very lackadaisical.

This a hidden gem we found actually from my nephew when he took us for coffee.Firstly friendly staff, very efficient & do anything to help you. Secondly the ordering system is fantastic, I had made a mistake but the staff sorted it quickly and were so very nice to us. The food is great and the amount of cakes on offer is absolutely fab, Great selection. We felt safe the minute we walked in social distancing seating and the staff excellent in keeping the place very clean and germ free. This is my fav place to go for coffee & cake, Highly recommended Down to the manager of this little gem has gave us a lovely place to come and chill and be looked after very well , that’s down to the staff too. Will be back again and again and again , we absolutely loved it

We had reluctantly taken a trip to St Andrews for fear nothing would be open or that places would be too busy to enjoy in a socially distanced way but we were desperate for a day out and on our travels we realised this gorgeous wee place was open! Not only was the food delicious, the amount on offer was brilliant! The covid19 measures that have been put in place put us completely at ease knowing that we were safe. The signage was clear and absolutely loved the ordering system in place! The owner has taken every care to make sure that its patrons are safe and most of all comfortable which isn't always easy in the situation we find ourselves in just now. Great place, and great staff to boot! Definitely will be back!

Popped in for lunch in the outdoor garden during lock-down. Lovely small setting which welcomed well behaved dogs. We had the pulled beef and the Eggs Macbeth (eggs, blackpudding and hollandaise). The beef was nice, the eggs fantastic for a light lunch.

This was our first meal out in a long time and it was amazing. Food was absolutely delicious and staff were incredibly attentive. New online menu and ordering was easy and efficient. We enjoyed ourselves so much we were back 3 days later and enjoyed sitting in the sun in their back courtyard. Great job Cottage Kitchen!

How we've missed our regular visits here for light meals and snacks. Presently outdoor seating only but well laid out and comfortable. Tables could easily accommodated a good size family group. Cake selection is fab!!

A good breakfast is harder to get than you think but this place has it all. Fresh food cooked by someone who knows what they are doing and served by very helpful staff...… they have got it right. The reviewer who mentioned the student problem I can sympathise with as I should owners would also like people to eat and not use it just as a meeting place - there are plenty of places to meet up and chat. Don't let this put you off - perhaps just think harder about your timing - we have just had two mornings of breakfasting there without any probs - warning though - you have to have a good appetite!

Was very dissapointed visit today, after we walked in wasn't very welcoming greeting, just we been told "take a sit and order at the counter". However the place very small (even upstairs too) plus filled with young ones who's probably just having coffees, and takes tables from peoples who would eat too. Specially annoying when only 1 people sit at a table of 6, with a cuppa of drink and just be on the laptop. This could be done at the libary i think.

To avoid the plethora of insipid 'Italian' places and endlessly boring pub grub in St Andrews, head for The Cottage Kitchen - real food and friendly service. Great homemade soup, bread and tasty lunch dishes.

We have visited here several times and have never had a bad experience. Good, generous portions of freshly prepared food. Tasty cakes, doggy friendly and a warm welcome. Toilets could maybe do with an upgrade, but would still recommend a visit here.

We had an absolutely delicious breakfast at Cottage Kitchen at such a reasonable price!! A lovely atmosphere, hot coffee and tasty food supporting a local business on St Andrews high street. Staff all very pleasant and when we found out that The Cottage Kitchen also did outside catering, we never thought twice on who to ask to cater our parties or bake cakes for family birthdays!!

As usual, when visiting a place new to me, I look at tripadvisor before eating out. I tried The Cottage Kitchen as it had some excellent reviews and seemed to be serving the type of food I like.

Nice atmosphere but a bit cold. Tea/drinks were nice but everyone thought their cakes were a bit dry. Gave it a try because of reviews on Trip Advisor but obviously made the wrong cake selections or went in at the wrong time (later in day so cakes probably standing all day).

I have been to a lot of casual dining places, cafes and tea rooms and I have to say that the cottage kitchen is now my favourite!! The vegan chocolate cake is amazing and the coffee is spot on. But don’t just use this as a coffee hut this is a great place for food too! Great food, amazing cakes, fantastic atmosphere and the customer service is second to none. I would genuinely highly recommend the cottage kitchen to anyone visiting Scotland not just St. Andrews!! I will be back again for sure. Thank you cottage kitchen for a great experience! Truly a gem!!

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

When the weather turns cold, shops closed, you don’t want a restaurant, just a cuppa, Alexander and George will make you welcome. Enticed by the chips! Feel much better now. Thanks guys!

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
