Nice location, but utterly overpriced. Every item comes with a 12.5% surcharge, regardless of what you order or party size, in order to 'ensure our staff get rewarded appropriatly'. Whilst you can ask for it to be removed, for a single person ordering a soup, it should not be included. I would suggest paying your staff an appropriate rate and let your solo customers decide on the tip. Even with this surcharge, the staff do not bring cutlery to the table, you have to get that yourself. I wonder what the 12.5% surcharge reflects then...

Three friends and I had the pleasure of staying for a night at the end of March. We had a wonderful trip from start to finish. The location is cracking, our room looked directly onto the beach, and we had a gorgeous walk along it in the sparkling sunshine on Sunday morning, just the thing to blow the cobwebs away. Our rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed, with the Tunnocks tea cakes a nice touch. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, far too much wine, then over-stayed our welcome in the cute little whisky bar! Double Laphroaig anybody?! On that note, the biggest shout-out must go to the team, who were all truly exemplary (and patient!) I wouldn't generally signal anybody out for special praise but I will make an exception in this case as James is an absolute gem. Breakfast was an excellent way to soak up a little of the previous nights' excesses, and we all left happy and little bit in love with The Crusoe and its super team.

Super location on waters edge. Exceptional staff, pleasant bar and breakfast area. Rooms and decor could do with a bit of TLC but kept clean. Magnificent panorama more than compensated. VIP treatment for our small dog with plenty of dog friendly areas. Overall a relaxing two day break.

This was our second stay at this hotel for our wedding anniversary but unfortunately even though we paid for The Pier Suite our stay was less than perfect for its hefty cost. The room wasn’t serviced properly on our second, more expensive night and this resulted in a middle of the night visit to the bar toilets as no spare loo roll was left in our room. Waited over 2 and a half weeks for a response to two emails then had a phone call from Ross would ensure we had exceptional service if we booked with the company again and I just needed to mention toilet roll when booking! Left feeling patronised!

Our family had lunch today and we were delighted with all aspects of our experience. The staff were fabulous -warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Our one year old granddaughter was treated like a wee visiting celebrity and had a ball. She would happily have stayed much longer! The food was delicious. We each had different mains choice and all were fab. The portions were very generous so we couldn’t manage a sweet each but shared 3 superb puddings! Our granddaughters food was fresh, delicious and very thoughtfully presented and staff made sure we had all we needed to enable her to join in fully. Really great value for money. The restaurant was cosy and had a lovely vibe and we felt very relaxed, unhurried and at home. We highly recommend The Crusoe as a venue and we for sure will be back very soon and as it is so pet friendly we will add our pup to the party next time. Well done all a brilliant team!

A lovely spontaneous lunch after a walk along the coastal path. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Food was good quality and good price. Will definitely be back.

We stayed overnight B&B, and had dinner with family who live locally. The welcome was lovely, and the room was very comfortable with. great view across the Firth of Forth (waves lapping right under the window). The food (dinner and breakfast) was delicious and the service friendly and efficient. The dog was also welcomed. We were only away for a night, but it felt like a holiday.

Having travelled up in the afternoon, and with few options without driving out of Lower Largo, it was a lovely experience to have a couple of drinks and dinner at The Crusoe. Walked in around 6 and it had clearly been busy with Sunday lunches, I sat in the bar but felt welcomed by the excellent staff and friendly customers. Sticking on brand, I had The Crusoe Burger and a couple of Crusoe lagers, all excellent, burger was one of the best I’ve ever had. Had a lovely feel to the place and I’d like to return in the summer season even though it had charm in February! Dogs are allowed in the bar and had a beautiful Dalmatian visit for some company from the next table!

Had a meal here on Friday evening and it was absolutely fantastic. Welcoming and professional service in a lovely cozy bar restaurant. Meals were delicious and I would honestly say the fish and chips was one of the best I’ve ever eaten! Thank you!

We had an incredible experience at the hotel and restaurant! The staff were absolutely brilliant and were extremely friendly and attentive. The rooms were also amazing and very comfortable, with lovely views of the sea. The drinks bar had a wide variety of drinks suitable for everyone, and the food at the restaurant was extremely good. The starters were incredibly tasty and very well made, strongly recommend trying the Haggis Bon Bon's and the Whipped Goat's Cheese. For the main dish we had steak and it was perfectly cooked to our liking. The staff were so accommodating of our needs and made sure even our dog felt at home. Overall, we had an excellent experience and would love to come back on another occasion!

Good restaurant and bar with darts and pool. My personal recommendation is a walk from Leven along the beach.

Visited the bar in the afternoon for a drink and for a glass of wine and a pint it was £20.50, the glass of wine being £15 which is overpriced. Bar area has not changed much and same old tables which were sticky and chipped so doesn’t warrant the cost of the wine. Returned to the restaurant in the evening. Service was great and the food lovely and freshly cooked. We went to add a tip but the waitress told us a service charge was already added which was very honest of her.

Our family of 8 were beautifully looked after tonight. Fabulous service & lovely food. We come here every time we come to visit family. Love it here:)

While walking the fife coastal path from St Andrews via Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem and St Monans and on to Leven to take a train home to Edinburgh I stayed in the Crusoe on my last night and had a great stay in a lovely room with a view of the beach with the waves gently lapping all the way up to the hotel; great fish and chips evening meal and excellent cooked breakfast. I was able to walk directly from the hotel along the beach to Leven to get my train. The staff were all excellent being both helpful and very friendly. Often the last stopover on a trip can influence your overall view of the trip and my experience of the Crusoe was terrific. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Had 3 meals here at the Crusoe as we were staying in the village of Lower Largo .Added bonus we were a 2 minute walk to this truly lovely restaurant/pub .The food was superb filling tasty and extremely well presented .The staff went out of their way to accommodate us shout out to James who was lovely helpful and a breath of fresh air well done everyone

We visited the Crusoe when family members came to visit. We only live 30 mins away but this was the first time we'd been. The food was so good, I mean I'm very picky about burgers but holy cow that crusoe burger was something else. The staff were really good and friendly with the kids. It was a touch pricey, especially the drinks but I would go back for sure.

Just know the pub/restaurant part: it's always like coming home❤️

A truly outstanding Caesar salad - wonderful ingredients and plenty of it. The staff team are really nice and the disabled toilet is excellent.

Ate in the bar after a mornings walk along the Fife coastal trail. Good selection of beers and large portions from the bar menu. Very dog friendly ( we were the only people in without one!). Friendly staff.

Sunday roast will disappointment for £22 not worth it overcooked/boiled carrots,brocoli chewy beef won't be going back . Must have changed the kitchen team.on a plus, the front of house staff were a delight.

Stopped for a juice on a summers day. What a location, absolutely stunning, we will be back to eat our fish and chips at one of their tables on the harbour wall. What a spot and the staff are fabulous, so friendly!

Lovely evening meal with friends at the Crusoe. First visit, very impressed, interesting menu in the restaurant. Tasty salmon roulade starter and venison ragu. Friendly helpful staff, and first night of the whisky and gin bar with extensive selections being open upstairs next to the restaurant. And stunning views along the coast. We'll be back!

We stumbled upon The Crusoe while passing through the beautiful town of Largo and we had an absolutely delicious lunch here. The fish & chips were excellent and the service was lovely. Highly recommend adding this your list!

I spent four nights at this beautiful, peaceful Hotel. I stayed in one of the seven rooms that look over the beach and when the tide comes in, ocean. The updated small room is very comfortable. Great food and drink on property. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We recently stopped in Lower Largo for a short break and ate at the Crusoe on three occasions - dinner in the restaurant, breakfast and one evening in the bar. On each occasion the food was delicious and well presented with excellent service from everyone we met. Highly recommended!

My Wife and I ate in the Crusoe recently on a couple of occasions and enjoyed the food and the service, which we found very good and very friendly.

Lovely bit of the world and Crusoe is a really nice place to eat & drink. Managed a large table of 16 with little fuss and good food. Good sized beer gardens outside and even put football on in the downstairs bar. Would recommend a drink in the first floor snug on a sunny evening, the views from the windows are amazing. I didn't stay at the hotel.

Had breakfast here during our vacation in Scotland. Best breakfast I had in all over the country. Highly recommended! The view is magnificent and the beach is easily accessible.

Firstly the staff were very friendly but we felt that the price for the food was a bit much. I don't mind paying what seems like restaurant prices in pubs now as that seems to be the trend if the quality is there. My haddock and chips tasted lovely but the presentation must have been done by Stevie Wonder! I know it's trendy to put the fish on a bed of chips but it looked like I'd tipped my takeaway onto a plate. My wife's chicken burger was a bit bland. and £3 for 2 slices of buttered bread is just not right. Nice people just need to improve on the food a bit.

Lovely location shame its facing inland .. Outside sesting is neat and smart but basically in the car park. Just called in for a spot of lunch .. the cullen skink was really nice and service was great.

A few issues when dining,forgetting drinks and sat with dessert menu for 15mins no order taken. Apart from that hotel and rooms are lovely location perfect.

Great location in a beautiful spot. Pleasant bar and restaurant area, and we had fun playing pool. Service was good. However food was sub par. Three of us had fish and chips and all felt they must have been cooked in oil that was not hot enough. The batter was soggy and tasted not fully cooked.

We visited today to attend a function that required waiting in the reception area. We got chatting to a nice lady who offered to show us around. After the function, we met up with her and got the tour. What a grand job they're doing, dining room upstairs is lovely, as is the little cocktail bar, the rooms looked very nice and the suite we saw was really nice. The whole place has benefited from a fresh makeover that was much needed. Apparently, they are running a courtesy bus that covers a 15-minute radius from the hotel. We live within that zone, so we will be taking advantage of that service in the near future . Well done saving a once popular spot from becoming derelict like so many others in this area.

We were lucky enough to stay the The Cruscoe on one of the few sunny days over the past few weeks and woke up to the most wonderful sunrise over the water. The rooms are positioned perfectly to get the most out of the location and inside it is well equipped with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. What makes this hotel however are the staff and the small details that make you feel special. Nothing was too much trouble for them - from moving one of their cars so we could park outside to providing fresh milk in a thermos for our morning tea and a personalised greeting on the outside of our door and a note inside. The bar at night was lively, also with friendly staff, and the restaurant meal was delicious. Breakfast in the morning was also very good. Would definitely recommend it.

After reading some of the negative reviews, we were apprehensive about our booking. We’re so glad we ignored them! Our suite was fabulous with terrific views and good, quality furnishings. We had a couple of drinks in the bar then ate in the restaurant. We chose Fish Pie and Poussin, both excellent. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. We will definitely be back.

Disappointing lunch here. A planned birthday trip on a sunny day. However the outside space was a little underwhelming, as you feel you're in the car park. Perhaps some trellises would help delineate the space ? We had a lovely starter of fishcakes, well presented, with a perfect poached egg on top. Sadly, our main course of fettuccine was dismal. It was described as courgette, sun-dried tomatoes and olive fettuccine and that is literally what it was. Dried tomatoes that were leathery, not the soft variety in oil, courgette slices that had been briefly griddled, and olives, amongst pasta. No sauce, no oil, no obvious seasoning. Very plain and really boring So we were unimpressed, and sadly won't be hurrying back.

We stopped here for lunch on a lovely day and sat in the outdoor space near the little harbour. We had egg mayonnaise sandwiches and haggis bon bons as a snack lunch with a couple of drinks. Ordered at the bar and our food came in a reasonable time. The helpings were large, which made up for the slightly expensive price. Overall it was a good place to soak up the sun in a nice place with good food.

The menu is varied, including a set menu. It was not too busy but not empty either. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and dogs welcome. The food was delicious. I would definitely return. We had a lovely walk on the beach afterwards.

Staff, second to none. From the minute i enquired about booking a 3 day golf break, they sorted everything. They made you feel you were there only concern. Frist class service, lovely room, and excellent food. A place to return to.

We heard great reviews for here so decided to treat ourselves. I had seafood lungini whic was dry and lacked in flavour. The sticky toffee pudding was really nice.the service was slow and we were sat on a table that the staff flew by all the time making it shake. No one asked us if the food was ok and we wont be going again

Absolutely loved our stay at The Crusoe. Beautifully decorated, comfortable room and the balcony views were stunning, even more so at night when Storm Betty rolled in at high tide!! Breakfast and dinner both nights were lovely. Real homemade breakfast pancakes with fruit the best I’ve had! Smoked salmon, Cullen skink, Ham terrine starters, Fish pie, sea bass, sticky ribs mains, all delicious! Staff all very helpful and chatty, excellent service in the restaurant and hotel. Lots to do in surrounding area, visiting beautiful coastal villages Pittenweem, Anstruther, Crail. Walked coastal path to Elie, had lovely coffee in The Ship. Great sit ooterie looking over the beach, super idea with the shuttle bus if we wanted to dine there, thats for the next visit! Thank you team Crusoe

Last years experience was fabulous but this year only good. My reservation was wrong but luckily the family left so we could change tables to the table I asked for. This reason was to sit our cockapoo dogs out of the way. We agreed about some of the young staffs attitude , lets say their hearts weren't in their jobs. Anyway our main meal was nice, nothing like last year and we waited about 20 minutes for one desert then we were told the shuttle was waiting to take us , so then rushed to eat the desert and pay. This was not how we like to dine ans felt rather disappointed. Excellent free shuttle bus, this a wonderful idea!

As a local property owner The Crusoe has always been part of the fabric, and the change in ownership was welcomed particularly since it would be part of The Ship family a little further along the coast. That said, each of the last 3 visits (2 for lunch, 1 for dinner) have been hugely disappointing in terms of service, it’s slow, many of the young bar and wait staff almost seem ‘entitled’ and give the impression that the customer should be thankful that they’re being served, and whatever you do, don’t ask them any questions about the menu! Notwithstanding the great setting, do yourself a favour a d spend your money elsewhere.

First time here having booked as a birthday treat. Stunning location with great views and the building literally touching the sea which means you get amazing views from many of the windows. We ate upstairs and the foold was great - tasty, well cooked sunday lunch and a very nice chocolate fondant desert. The service was excellent - polite, courteous and attentive. The décor inside is nicely done, giving a classy look and bathrooms are also nicely decorated. The bar area offers a more traditional, relaxed atmosphere for a pint. Some nice walks around the area too and easy access to beaches.

Absolutely lovely time at the Crusoe - delicious food, lovely and quick service, beautiful spot by the sea. Love the fish and chips and the Cullen skink soup in particular. Great place to stop for a hearty lunch after a long seaside walk.

Food just didn't come. Waited an hour and twenty minutes (enquired politely about it once) before giving up. No apology or explanation, just an uncalled-for smarmy 'take it or leave it' attitude from the waiting staff.

This is a little gem of a place ideal spot, preferably when sunny 😎 excellent customer service, good food which all of party of 4 enjoyed, well worth travel from west Lothian. Will definitely return for nice day out.
