Excellent little road-side cafe near Balmullo, Fife, with views over the Eden estuary. Their is always a great choice of food, and the outside seating area is good for taking a dog.

We have now visited twice to have lunch on a weekend and managed to get a table outside on the lovely balcony to enjoy beautiful views over the fife countryside (worth visiting just for this!). We ordered paninis and were surprised to be able to select any filling combos from the long list of options and for a good price. My partner had salmon bree and red onion for the same price as my chicken (very reasonable for salmon!) The sandwich came with a lovely salad with dressing and a delicious home made coleslaw and crisps. Best local lunch we have had so far. The staff can be a bit rustic but it’s a farm after all so don’t expect a ritz service you are in the countryside. Definitely worth a visit for lunch- check website for lunch times and book if you want the balcony view.

The food was very tasty and well presented although some of the items still on the menu board were not available. However the staff were not particularly welcoming and we didn’t like the fact that the one and only toilet opened directly onto the dining area. Would not hurry to return.

Overall would have given 5 stars, but I can't get my head around the pricing for the coffees. Everything else was priced on average with other Coffee Houses/Cafes in the area, and the quality was fine, we had a scone too and that was great, very nice texture. So for a regular Latte/Cappuccino was £2.40, but a large was £4.30. Thats a £1.90 difference (79% increase). The average around our area is between 30p - 50p a difference between regular and large. My head is bursting with so many questions... Is there a 79% increase in size of the cup volume? Is there a 79% increase in the cost of raw materials that justify the increase? Is there a combined 79% increase in size and quality, to avoid a bigger cup? It actually gets worse if you want a flavour shot in your Latte, its a increase of 50p on a regular. Which is on the excessive side, but then a further £2.30 added if you want that in a large. Over £5 for a cup of coffee is ridiculous, just ridiculous. Not sure if we will be back as this really can't be fair. Also the sign warning you that you have to spend over £5 to pay by card, really? Please negotiate a better deal with your credit card merchant, the marketplace is very competitive now. Equally though when its over £5 for a coffee, then it can't be too much of an issue.

I have thought long and hard. I have never in my 54 years submitted a negative review. My mum enjoys it here, so I took her and my son and husband. Although I am vegan I am pretty pragmatic and understand that we cater for all, so I didn't mind being there. I didn't mind there being zero vegan options either. I did mind though being addressed rudely when I asked if the soup was vegan. The owner said "cmon what do you expect we're a farm". Contrast this with last month when visited a creamery in Galloway. Because I was there with my husband, and I don't impose my dietary choices on them. No I am not comfortable with dairy, but I don't embarrass restaurants by making a fuss. When I asked for a vegan option at the Colfin Creamery the chef made me a wonderful dish. I was taking my guests to Thai Teak even though it was not what I would want and to be met with such a rude attitude has meant I will never return. My omnivore husband was actually more annoyed than me.

What a treat to return here, it was hard to choose from the selection of scones overflowing with various fruits but I went with my favourite --- cheese and chive--and watched it nearly melt in the sunshine on the balcony. My furry dining companion agrees the scones are the best for miles around--we often take home extras for the freezer. Everything--indoor and outdoor seating, the loo and entry--was gleaming and clean.

After a wander around the adjacent shop, and a few purchases (lots of lovely things to browse!) we very much enjoyed afternoon tea here.Gorgeous tea room that felt cosy but not crowded, and really lovely staff. Our tea comprised of a selection of full sized sandwiches (you choose which varieties you fancy from the daily specials - cheese and pickle, and egg mayo for us) warm pancakes with butter, fresh cream and strawberry jam made on the premises. The jam is delish and available to buy, highly recommend picking a jar up when you leave. There was also Viennese swirls, mini victoria sponges and a selection of tray bakes, all washed down with a generous pot of tea. We already cant wait to re-visit!

The cafe is cosy and has a nice view over the Eden estuary and Leuchars airbase. The food and drink are a bit more expensive than your normal cafe but the food does taste good. A toilet is available to customers and the cafe has ample parking. Thai Teak has a large collection of furniture, ornaments and curios for sale, well worth a visit for that unusual gift.

Today we were met by an impatient and unwelcoming cafe manageress who seemed not to want our business. Her first words were "I hope you don't want lunch. We stopped serving at 3." This was at 3.04 pm (and only because we had purchased something from the shop which you have to bring across to the cafe to pay for). We would have been happy to order lighter options, but her attitude was so brusque we decided to find somewhere friendlier. I have visited Thai Teak many times and never been spoken to in this way before, in fact the same woman was laughing and joking with me on other occasions. Interesting that this was the only time I have been there wearing any gay insignia, although I have no idea if that was the cause of her upset. Whatever her reason, I won't be taking people back there again, not a pleasant experience.

Visited for lunch today, meal was lovely however on watching the staff in the open kitchen was taken aback to watch one lady prepping food with bare hands while putting some food into her mouth and running her hand through her hair!!! To compound my disgust on going to pay at the side of the kitchen there was a young girl obviously on her break leaning on the work surface eating from a bowl of food.....why are staff eating in kitchen and not at a designated table?? Also a gentleman in dirty work clothes entered the kitchen and came out with food....I work in the food industry and this to me is sub standard food hygiene practice.

I went to the Thai teak with my family after a rubbish time at the V&A; museum. We stepped through the door with low expectations, due to the rundown location the cafe was based. We ordered our food (3 medium americano’s, one apple and black currant fruit shoot, a fruit scone, hummingbird cake and soup of the day, being tomato chilli and spinach). Once I had received my soup, me being the bearer of the soup, I took a big slurp of the thick, tomatoey goodness and I was instantly hooked. I highly recommend this place because it is reasonably priced and the items of confections are delicious.

I totally understand that things happen and wouldn't be on here slagging the place off if it wasn't for the way my complaint about finding a bone in my coronation chicken and other issues was handled. In my opinion its the way it is dealt with after a problem has happened about how professional a business is. I am disgusted at the attitude of the person in charge and what she said to my partner when he went to settle the bill, so felt it was only fair to let people know what my experience was of this place. After finding a bone in the coronation chicken that was the filling for my baked potato I couldn't eat anymore, I had already eaten most of the side salad with the crisps and coleslaw and may I point out I had only had 3 forkful of the coronation chicken I didn't want to eat anymore ( I am sure most people are like this when they find items in their food). The young server girl just said sorry and that the chicken was fresh ( well I would hope it was fresh, but i'm assuming what she mean was it was from a whole cooked chicken cooked on the premises....which still doesnt warrant a bone being in there and it was quite a sizeable bone not a tiny bit that could have been missed when breaking up the chicken). Anyway I would have expected someone in charge to have come across or asked if I would have liked something else. Not the case but my partner did state at that point "I dont think we should have to pay for that" Not unreasonable considering the bone was discovered when it was in my mouth biting down on it and not on the plate. The lady taking the bill said " sorry about the bone in the chicken, it was fresh chicken today " (again with the fresh chicken today explanation??) then said the total bill and "I havent charged you for the baked potato, but I think it is unfair considering that you have ate half of it" ( Like I said earlier I had 3 forkfulls and ate most of the side salad, all of the coleslaw and the crisps that came at the side of it hardly ate half of it. What an attitude. I could have complained about the service which took 3 attempts to clear the table then I had to ask the table be wiped clean which was covered in sticky jam and when it was cleaned it still had sticky jam on it and I ended up sliding over to the other seat which seems cleaner. The service in my opinion wasnt the best but the nail in the coffin was the attitude after regarding the fact that the whole place heard her speaking about the bone and that finding it unfair not to charge as half of it was eaten ( even if half of it was eaten that is no way to treat a customer) Wont ever be back and I hope this shocking customer service never happens to someone else.

Arrived here only because our first choice was too busy. I ordered a bacon roll, unfortunately the breakfast menu which had a choice of 2 items was unavailable after 11.30am. I fully understand this in places where the breakfast menu is full and varied but how a bacon roll could not be rustled up is beyond me. So I had an egg roll or rather I asked for an egg roll and was given a plate of crisps and salad and an egg roll. Why do these places not ask? All I wanted was an Egg roll. Anyway my wife had the same so we had 2 Egg rolls and tea for 2 total cost £17.20!!! Tea bag 1p roll 20p they were selling eggs i am sure it was £1.50 for a 6 so approx. 20p each so 40p salad cost max 50p. So total cost for them 1p+20p+40p+50p = £1.11 x 2 £2.22 leaving them a grand profit of £14.98 . Now I am well aware of staffing costs etc. but for pity sake this is an absolute rip off of a place and I will never ever be back. NB. I noticed they were advertising a Thai night £40 a head I thought must be all inclusive then noticed BYOB written below. Must be getting the food sent direct from Thailand for that price so expect a wait if you decide to go.

We went here on recommendation and I will never return!! The menu is possibly the worst laid out menu I have ever seen!! We weren't informed of any shortages before we ordered, so when we did order the waitress then had to return as they'd run out of baguettes. I ordered the coronation chicken on brown bread, the waitress then had to return to the table to check what type of bread I wanted. When the food came out it was very well presented, and looked tasty. However, when I bit into the sandwich I had a nasty surprise as firstly I crunched down in a bone!! Then I realised that the chicken used was roast chicken, which has its own flavour, and it was very greasy!! So I picked the piece of bone out of my mouth and took another bite, this time I had a large piece of gristle. My sister had ordered the same, and had planned to give some to her infant daughter so I warned her that there was bone and gristle in the meat. She then opened her sandwich to immediately find a two inch piece of bone!!! And that wasn't the only one!! The staff were clearly run off their feet so I caught the eye of a waitress as soon as I could and handed my plate to her, stating that there was lots of bone in the chicken, her face immediately soured, and through clenched jaw she asked if I wanted anything else, to which I declined. My sister was unable to catch the attention of any waitresses for some time and when she did, and informed the lady that she also had lots of bone, the lady walked away without actually saying anything!! Then, the woman in charge came over and was immediately confrontational stating that as they use fresh chicken there's bound to be some bone...She continued to argue with us and eventually walked away stating, not asking, that she would only charge us for one sandwich. My mum was paying the bill for the table and she then continued to insist on charging as my sister had eaten the salad!! Whilst paying my mum spoke to my other sister, quietly, and the woman turned round and very loudly asked 'what was that??' Obviously thinking my mum was speaking about her, which she wasn't!! I was waiting to pay for our table and she wasn't aware at that time that I was the other person who had complained. When I came to pay she actually charged me £1 for eating my coleslaw!! I have honestly never had such shocking service for what was clearly a valid complaint!!! I can only be thankful that I noticed the bone before my infant niece choked on it!!! I will not recommend this place to anyone and will never return!! Utterly shocking behaviour!!!

Our group of six and a baby was a bit of a tight fit in the small dining room, but the ladies made us feel right at home.Great menu, great service and be sure you leave room for an "after." Mine is usually a scone. You can also get frozen scones to take with you and they are really great the next morning with a cup of coffee at home. This was our second trip to Thai Teak this trip and I'm sure we will be back.

Just a quick coffee stop on a truly awful day weatherwise. Cafe was busy towards the end of lunch service, however we were seated and served quickly. Coffee was good, but the scones - one savoury and one sweet - were awesome! The homemade rasp jam was excellent.

My wife and I stopped off here in the early afternoon. Our first visit, although we have passed it countless times as we frequent this road.Firstly we had a look in their shop which is huge inside with several rooms and an upstairs section too. The vast majority of their stock is carved wooden items, all imported from Thailand - anything from a miniature elephant which would fit in the palm of your hand to almost life sized elephants, dining sets, carved pictures, wardrobes, rocking horses plus much, much more. They also have a selection of non-wood items too. A real Aladdin's Cave and truly worth a visit if you like unusual items. In addition to the shop they also have a covered outdoor section with carved garden furniture. The café, in keeping with the Thailand theme, is built on stilts. Internally the café is quite small and fills up rather quickly as it is a busy place. Their menu comprised sandwiches, toasties, baked potatoes, salads, soups and cakes amongst other items. Our main intention was to have a light lunch. I chose the yellow broth soup with brown bread whilst my wife chose the Cullen skink soup (her first ever time of trying it) and a latte. If I'm honest we were not expecting too much, but both of the soups were very tasty and exceeded our expectations.Service was friendly enough.would definitely return.

This little cafe was recommended to me by a friend and I am very glad she did. Located in the middle of the countryside, it's really only accessible by car but it is very much worth the trip. The cafe itself, although appearing quite small at first glance, is well laid out and provides plenty of space for eating. They offer a wide selection of breakfast and lunch food, which won't disappoint and will not break the bank. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, creating a very warm atmosphere. Overall, a lovely little cafe to visit and I will definitely be back.

The cafe is easy to find with ample parking. The cafe is small but well laid out. We were served quickly and all chose different sandwich options. The food was excellent but one order was wrong. They offered to change it but as the others already had their food we decided to have it anyway. Sandwiches were served with a tasty dressed salad, coleslaw and crisps. We took home some very tasty looking scones. Overall a great find and will be back.

The cafe sits just of the main road and can get very busy particularly at lunchtime. I've visited a couple of times now and haven't been disappointed with either the food on offer or the service - oh it's not that expensive either. They do a range of cakes and pastries as well as hot dishes including a range of Thai curries which are very good.

I can't believe that I've driven past this place fairly regularly for 8 years and have called in for the first time only yesterday! The cafe is probably best described as 'small, but perfectly formed'. It's clean and pleasantly decorated, with friendly efficient staff, providing a table service. It was clear on entering that this is a popular place as it was almost full at noon and 2 of the three tables left were reserved! The menu was small, but other options were available on a blackboard. Everything seemed home made and looked fabulous. The only thing I would mention is that one the place gets full, there is little room to manoeuvre and for the larger frame (myself included) it was more than a squeeze to get through to the toilets. On a fine weather day there are additional tables on a balcony/veranda. No review would be complete though, without mention of the clear, open views across the rolling fields and beyond. Well worth a trip and even a mile or two out of your way.

The food was simply superb....an excellent Thai curry, brilliant scones and everything else just right. Welcoming us was a notice advising that they required staff....and they certainly do since currently they feature a waitress who simply seems intent to spoil the meal. She got the order wrong...with no apology instead a defence of what she had done. I asked for a receipt having spent over fifty pounds...she got the receipt wrong....but, more important, she simply does not care...she is rude, she takes forever to serve and it is all so much of a problem for her. Great real and bring the service to the superb quality of the food

Popped in here last Saturday for a coffee. The previous day we had been in a patisserie in Edinburgh for a coffee and scone but disappointingly the scone tasted as though it had been heated in microwave and jam was in one of those little mass produced jars. Not the case here , we had the most delicious fresh blueberry scones and fresh home made raspberry jam . In fact they were selling jars of the jam for only £2. I didn't buy any as I make all my own jam which I why I never like the mass produced jam offered in most venues . Will definitely be back

I stopped with my 3 children and dog on Friday on the way to St Andrews. The café was completely full and I asked if I could sit outside which was fine, as I needed to keep an eye on my son in the car. The waitress who served us had such an attitude and did not appear to like children as we added more to the order, when my son felt better. The curry was amazing as was the soup and toastie. The children were keen to go back on Sunday on the way home - with my 2 elderly parents. Again good quality food, but the waiting staff were abrupt, and really downright rude - walking into the kitchen mocking us.... again similar situation as a previous review, about not appearing to like children. My youngest was upset about something and I took here out of the café, and we came back in she was still a little moany.... and if looks could kill from the waiting staff....then my Mum had the soup and it came with bread, she asked the waitress if she could have the cheese scone instead when it came out. Again this was a huge problem, the fact that my 77 year old mother had not mentioned that she wanted a cheese scone, it said clearly on the menu and she should have read it...... it was a true comment but it was the way it was communicated. I must say that their attitude and behaviour was completely different to locals....it is almost as though "outsiders" are burdensome and not worth being decent too. Much as I loved the food I will not be back, my 5, 8 and 9 year old all commented too about how rude the staff were and were really quite upset about how they have been treated.

A friend and I visited for a coffee today with our 2 x 4 year olds and young baby. The selection of cake/coffee is great, however during our visit our 4 year old's decided to play with the sugar packets and one opened onto the floor with several being played with. As we left and were the last to leave at 1630 after a 45 minute visit, we forgot something of which I went back in to collect. The lady was clearing the table sorting through the sugar packets and I apologised for them playing with it - the waitress clearly had a problem and told me quite rudely that several of them were 'crushed' and unusable. I have a problem being addressed so rudely and sarcastically from a staff member to a paying customer over a few sugar packets after spending approx. £15 in the cafe. If children are not welcome or expect a few sugar packets to become unusable then either don't allow children in or don't put 20 x sugar selection on your tables. It was a very uncomfortable situation met with attitude - not a good display of service. Disappointing considering how awesome your furniture store is.

I went for lunch with a friend a few weeks back on a Monday and the good was delicious and the service was fab. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars as I was here a month ago with my brother and grandparents, this was my first ever visit , it was a Friday. When we got in my elderly grandparents were asked be a very rude waitress "have you reserved a table?" There is a way of asking this politely and she did not ask in a nice manner, to which we replied no we haven't. This seemed to be a problem even though there were plenty tables free, she then put two table together for us (this felt like a big hassle) we were then unfortunately served by her for the rest of our lunch which was a real shame as she had no customer service skills whatsoever, she was a woman in her 40-50s I'd say, so not like a young teenager who has an attitude problem, though she acted like one!!!! We really felt unwelcome and a hassle to her! The food was still amazing though and this was the only reason I returned with a friend a few weeks back, I am very glad I did as we were served by a lovely young girl who made us feel welcome :)

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
