The best restaurants serving British food in England

There’s always such a lovely atmosphere, feels like meeting family and friends every time we come over for a meal! Breakfast was great, hot and tasty food, friendly waiters and very affordable prices.

Exceeded expectations. Phenomenally friendly stuff and delicious food and proper coffee. What not to like about hot scones!!

We had a late lunch, 3 o’clock. The welcome was warm. The restaurant ambience was lovely - quiet and relaxed with a few ‘drinkers’ chatting in the bar. The menu and ‘specials’ offered an extensive choice. The food, service and atmosphere all fantastic. The special starter king prawn skewer was divine!!! Staff were all friendly and attentive, but we weren’t rushed - in fact we had the table all afternoon. Although none of us had room for desserts, a shared portion of chocolate truffles with coffee was just the perfect touch. Utterly delicious! 😋 A delightful and relaxing afternoon!

We had lunch then could keep the car in the car park whilst we walked to Horsey Gap to see the seals about 2 miles round trip very enjoyable

I paid just under £5 for a small cup containing approximately 10 chips from the snack menu. I felt cheated and taken advantage of by this miserly portion. I went to one of their other Deben Inn pubs a few days before (Kings Head) and the portions were huge by comparison. There is no consistency or comparison on value for money and whomever decides on the portion sizes at the Fox is taking advantage of customers and needs pulling up on this. The coffee cup is bigger than the bowl in which the chips were served! Outrageous! See photo.

Great breakfast with great friendly service. Good veggie options and tasty cakes. We got there at 10:30 on winters morning. Place filled up quickly so recommended booking if you plan to go any time later.

Always a treat to have to have an evening here and never disapppoints, which is why I keep going back. Peter's food is delicious and beautifully presented and Nicola and her front of house team always give a very warm welcome and excellent service. This restaurant has been in business for many years and there's a very good obvious reason for that .Would highly recommend

A culinary experience, absolutely delicious fresh food - catering for both vegetarian and carnivore tastes. A delightful setting with friendly helpful staff. Next time we'll try brunch - can't wait!

Un lugar tan agradable y amable con buena comida. Sin embargo porciones muy pequeñas. Tuve pescado con patatas fritas por una enorme £ 36 y el pedacito de pescado que tenía era como una porción para niños. Absolutamente decepcionante, pero sabroso!

Interesting experience. Arrived at opening. Busy gentleman filling drinks fridge. Friendly lady finally appeared and engaged immediately. Small pub with some superb decor, lots of great beams and similar decoration. Shortish lunch menu but enough choices for picky me! Starter was a mint and soy lamb rib with smashed cucumber dressing and a kick of something spicy. Main was a pollo milanese that I asked not to include the cheese. Nicely cooked and presented with a lovely tomato based sauce and a mountain of rabbit food! Dessert was a chocolate heavy dessert with raspberry gel and a nice raspberry sorbet. Venue has real character and the waitress was genuinely engaged in her work. Toilet is functional bearing in mind the age. Nice food and waitress.

The food was excellent, We had the Scallops with parsnip puree and crisps which were delicious, followed by the fillet steak and short rib beef cottage pie, which was excellent, had pudding, which in my opinion was not so good.but did not detract from the above. we stayed the night and the breakfast was really good, the waitress at breakfast was friendly, and although the restaurant was full, we didn't have to wait to be served, there is a good choice of breakfasts.

We stayed in the Horse&Groom for a brief weekend and enjoyed every moment! Went for a short holiday with family in the Cotswold district and was delighted to find this gem! our rooms were clean and tidy and equipped with a coffee machine and a great shower, even got a very generous welcome basket with treats! staff were friendly and welcoming and helped with every request or question. no complaints at all! would like to come back once we’re in the area :)

Reasonable food from a menu that seems to add an extra ingredient, and £1, wherever possible; chilli jam, mango chutney *and* spicy tomato salsa? Friendly service and nice mish-mash of crockery but not terribly clean; sticky cruets, grit in the grooves of the tables, dusty… The toilet has numerous quirky decorations. They need to cleaned when the toilet is cleaned.
