We celebrated a family birthday with Sunday lunch for 8 of us. The food, service and atmosphere all superb with nothing too much trouble for the staff. The roast dinners in particular were superb with the seasonal meat and veg all perfectly cooked. We had not visited for a while but will certainly be returning.

Large group of 17 were well catered for with a good menu selection - a bit cramped where we were but not so it spoiled the lunch. The onion and cider soup was fantastic- excellent sticky toffee pudding and my husband (a chef) enjoyed the scotch egg started and his rice pudding Thank you

We have been on several occasions as a couple and with family. We love the pub and the food but puzzled by one thing - the manager has zero customer service skills and comes across as rude and uninterested every time! The deputy manger? manages to make up for it and she is great. Hopefully the recent poor reviews about the food are a temporary blip. We have found the food to be excellent and the house burger is always popular.

I never write reviews and never make a fuss in any establishments. This visit, however, deserved writing about. We came to this pub on a recommendation of our friends who have eaten in this place in the past on numerous occasions and were always very happy. But boy or boy how disappointing our visit was - meat so chewy it was impossible to eat, duck was disappointing and so was the pork tenderloin. Staff not very attentive and pardon me for saying so - clueless about the menu, didn't know what ingredients go into each dish and had to constantly disappear to ask the chef about it. I did like a starter and frankly wished I had just ordered a selection of starters only in hindsight. Sadly, we will never be back I don't think. Not sure what happened to this place and why our visit was SO different from our friends one.

Very disappointing. Duck and pork tenderloin almost impossible to cut. Having waited forty minutes we expected something better. The room was chilly with no atmosphere. Staff all leaving between 2 and 2.30pm. Puddings quite good but expensive.

This is our favourite pub to go to after a walk in Sheffield Park. There is an enclosed play park for our elder daughter and an amazing garden with loads of seating. There is a delicious, seasonal menu. We often pick lots of starters/small plates and they are perfect for lunch. The kids meals are excellent too. They have two ales on; Harvey’s Best and a guest ale quite often locally from 360, long man or Bluebell brewery which are expertly kept. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. And Doodles the pub dog is lovely too!

A gorgeous pub, first time here....we sat in the beautiful beautiful garden...ordered from the bar and served outside. Lots of choices on the menu, I had the baked Camembert, hubby had crispy chilli Beef, and we shared paprika chips,(try them, so delicious) all of which was really really nice food..but I also want to try those lovely mussels I saw next time 😋 I LOVE the gorgeous dog, Dougal, you're not allowed to feed him, but it doesn't stop him being your best friend, and joining you. He will sit by anyone's feet in the shade under your table, before moving on to the next one. He doesn't bother you, he just joins you lol. Check him out table surfing. What a fantastic lunch it turned out to be. Inside the pub is quirky and bigger than first appears, like the tardis....lots of rooms for dining. It's the epitome of a perfect English country pub. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful. The staff are really pleasant, the service impeccable. We can't wait to return, even though it's 50 minutes drive from us. Well worth it though.

Visited this pub today for lunch after a walk in Ashdown Forest and felt as if we had chanced on a hidden gem! It has a beautiful colourful garden for sunny days with plenty of tables and is on a country lane so very peaceful. We saw it also has a smart dining room and also bar dining for cooler days. We both enjoyed fish and chips - they do small and large options of this, priced accordingly, so we had one of each. Small is probably more suited to a child or person with very small appetite but hubby gave me some of his fish to top my portion up. Very tasty and perfectly cooked. We only had soft drinks so can't comment on wines etc. The pub landlord has a lovely golden retriever who does the rounds of diners hoping someone will be a soft touch - menu says please don't feed the pub dog:-) We intend to return sooner rather than later!

What a fabulous place to go for a lazy afternoon. The pub is spotless and the staff are the epitome of professionalism. We are addicted regulars who always leave with a smile on our face. The food is absolutely superb (we 've never had a bad meal) and the prices are very affordable given the excellent offerings. Whether sitting inside by an open fire in winter or enjoying the beautiful gardens and vista in summer - it doesn't get much better than this venue in the area. The wine list has enough hidden gems to keep even the most critical connoisseur interested. Thank you

After having been recommended this restaurant, I booked a table. I phoned the day before to ask about wheelchair access and social distancing space. I was told the tables are widely spaced apart and that the wheelchair could be next to the wall away from other people. On arrival, they had to disturb three tables of people to clear the way for the wheelchair. so we squeezed past lots of unmasked people. The tables were one metre apart if that. Customers were walking around without face masks. We waited 1.5 hours for our food, they had had a power cut so that I understand. However the choice of food was limited and some choices had sold out. The coke drinks tasted watered down. The burgers were nice. The steak was very chewy. Overall, I was gutted as I wanted to celebrate and treat my family. I would not recommend going here. Poor value for money. The table server was lovely but not very attentive to asking if we required anything else during the meal, like extra drinks. We didn't bother with deserts as the service was so slow.

Meeting friends who live in area. Really like this pub restaurant.Three Starters of sea trout and one arrancini. OKTwo mains of sausages and mash ( rather small for cost), Two Pheasant dishes, and a fish dish. The Pheasant was over cooked and dry with little taste. Also skin was soft and not nice. Cabbage ok but a bit cold, as was the whole dish.Nice Christmas puddingPortion sizes seem to be smaller than previously and prices a bit high due to this.As usual service was good but a bit disappointing. Had travelled 40 minutes for the meal and journey home was a bit flat as in the past we have come away on a high. Will give it a go again but.........

One of our favourite pubs in the area. Not eaten there yet but food looks excellent when it comes out. Interesting and unusual but also the classics too. Fish and chips the size of a whale! Just a good old English pub, quiet and friendly.

Food menu changes with what is in season but still keeps the classics. Always well presented and of a high standard. Hope to see the pheasant on the menu soon

Four of us had dinner here. It was generally good with one member of the party very happy with the main meal, however two of us suffered bad stomach aches later that evening after eating the Guineafowl. I thought at the time the Guineafowl may have been slightly off or the sauce wasn't to my liking, so quite possibly the former. Generally though a lovely pub in great setting.

Had a truly amazing meal today with nine friends and we all commented on the standard of service and the quality of the food. It made a pleasant change to have a meal piping hot, on hot plates, something that is sadly lacking these days. Main courses were generous and therefore could not manage a dessert, but coffee came with a little treat which was a nice touch. Fish dishes were particularly excellent.

We regularly go to this hidden gem of a pub. The food is excellent, the garden is lovely with stunning views, very friendly staff, grown up only patio and even a super friendly pub dog!!!

We were taken to the Coach and Horses Pub in Danehill as part of a group organised by Great British Wine Tours, involving two vineyards, wine tasting and lunch - the lunch being included in the price. We sat outside in a very well kept and tidy garden in the hot September sunshine, and having chosen from a fairly limited pub-type menu, lunch was brought out to us. My husband and I chose different items, and both were very good. We have previously only visited this pub in the evening, in winter, and had no idea there is such a nice garden in which to sit in fine weather. This is a good pub, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the lovely garden in the sunshine!

Our first visit here, whilst visiting Uckfield for the weekend. Lovely welcome from the staff. They were pretty busy but they’d checked that we’d be happy with a brief wait. Lovely lunch in a glorious

After an awful experience yesterday at the Star in Old Heathfield with a VERY rude barmaid and below average food eight of us went to the Runt in Tun for my birthday lunch. I cannot praise the waiter
