It's always nice to find a cozy pub which is so accommodating of gluten free. Most of their menu items could be offered as gluten free which was such a treat. I had a lovely fish and chips followed by a chocolate honeycomb pudding.

This pub seems to have no local competition and treats new customers with a rogue attitude. A sign says “Thursday Night Curry + Pint for £19” and I ordered one for myself with a Diet Coke because I didn’t want beer and they have almost no vegetarian options. It came with a small glass of coke. Their children menu offers no veggie option either so they said they could do the curry for my son so I ordered one with tap water. When we finished our meal, they wanted to charge us two meals for the full price of the deal, knowing that we didn’t really have a pint of drink and the kid’s meal obviously cannot include a pint - I mean why would I order a curry with a pint for my boy?? They told me a small coke is £2, so I asked them if I could pay for what we actually had. Initially they refused and said that they were just trying to survive. When I looked around and saw everyone has a pint of beer on the table, I told them that it’s not fair so eventually they charged us £17.50 each. Normal dish would be around 12-15 and kid’s meal including ice cream is 10. What a rip off! I cannot help but think that it’s the time that makes people lose their honesty and kindness! If this is the way forward, then soon there will be nothing left of humanity.

Excellent menu & food choice. Very good value. Menu interesting with most of the classics avaliable. Tried the curry (Thursday) night £19.00 with a pint or a glass of wine & onion bhaji with rice. Better than the curry house which amazed me. Great pub Restaruant every table sold. Visited twice in 2 weeks it was so good

Always wary of "local" pubs but not the case here. Everyone from staff to customers were so welcoming. Food was probably the best I've had for a long time. Even the dog was made to feel welcome and had his own greeting from the resident labrador. If the chocolate pot with honeycomb is on the menu, ignore the cost and go for it, you won't be disappointed

I hesitate to review the Coach and Horses again within a couple of months, and so positively, because I worry that I won't get a table next time! Our Sunday lunch was about as good as a lunch can get, and served in their lovely garden with endless space and views of ponies running about in the field alongside. A starter salad of several kinds of tomato and whipped mozzarella was delicate and delicious. My belly pork was done to perfection, in that way one always hopes that particular cut will be handled (but is often disappointed). It was crisp of rind and melting of meat. Gorgeous. Tender, sweet roast root veg, various green veg steamed just right. My husband and son loved their fish and chips and house burger. Staff are chatty and give personal service, even on a steaming hot day with (I am guessing) every cover filled. Prices reflect the quality - this is not cheap pub grub, but by no means overpriced. A bill of £117 for three, including beer and service, now that the cost of supplies has rocketed, looks good to me... I'm always puzzled by negative reviews such "we had to order at the bar!" and "images on website not the same as dishes served". It's bar ordering here: that's the method and if you don't want to move from your seat, go elsewhere. And who wants the menu to be the same as it was a year ago? The sign of a skilled chef is not uniformity! This isn't MacDonald's; this is a top quality gastro-pub. But don't actually GO to the Coach and Horses, obviously, because I want to be able to get a table.

Visited the pub on a Saturday evening, never been here before and wanted somewhere relaxed and in the countryside to meet family and have a nice summer evening. Happy to say it was just what we wanted, away from it all along a country lane, has character, pleasant staff, a beautiful garden where you can sit amongst apple trees, and wasn't too busy. Didn't eat so can't comment on that but will the next time we visit, which won't be long!

I never write reviews and never make a fuss in any establishments. This visit, however, deserved writing about. We came to this pub on a recommendation of our friends who have eaten in this place in the past on numerous occasions and were always very happy. But boy or boy how disappointing our visit was - meat so chewy it was impossible to eat, duck was disappointing and so was the pork tenderloin. Staff not very attentive and pardon me for saying so - clueless about the menu, didn't know what ingredients go into each dish and had to constantly disappear to ask the chef about it. I did like a starter and frankly wished I had just ordered a selection of starters only in hindsight. Sadly, we will never be back I don't think. Not sure what happened to this place and why our visit was SO different from our friends one.

Overview: Visited the Coach and Horses for a midweek pub lunch. Situated in the countryside of Ashdown Forest. A lovely pub with a garden and small park area for children. Dog friendy and our dog was allowed in the main bar area. The staff are extremely friendly and made a fuss of our cocker spaniel. Food The food ordered did take some time coming to the table, about 25-30 minutes. Seemingly as the food was being cooked fresh. Unfortunately the burger ordered was completely undercooked so it was inedible. The meat was completely raw in the middle so it was fed to our dog. I ordered the venision as it was described on the menu as locally sourced. Although it came out well presented unfortunately it was well overcooked. It was a shame as we were planning to have dessert but due to the main meals we chose to leave. It wasn't busy at all, so I don't really know why the food came out as it did.

This is our favourite pub to go to after a walk in Sheffield Park. There is an enclosed play park for our elder daughter and an amazing garden with loads of seating. There is a delicious, seasonal menu. We often pick lots of starters/small plates and they are perfect for lunch. The kids meals are excellent too. They have two ales on; Harvey’s Best and a guest ale quite often locally from 360, long man or Bluebell brewery which are expertly kept. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. And Doodles the pub dog is lovely too!

Lots of choices on the menu, I had the baked Camembert, hubby had crispy chilli Beef, and we shared paprika chips,(try them, so delicious) all of which was really really nice food..but I also want to try those lovely mussels I saw next time 😋 I LOVE the gorgeous dog, Dougal, you're not allowed to feed him, but it doesn't stop him being your best friend, and joining you. He will sit by anyone's feet in the shade under your table, before moving on to the next one. He doesn't bother you, he just joins you lol. Check him out table surfing. What a fantastic lunch it turned out to be. Inside the pub is quirky and bigger than first appears, like the tardis....lots of rooms for dining. It's the epitome of a perfect English country pub. Visited this pub today for lunch after a walk in Ashdown Forest and felt as if we had chanced on a hidden gem! It has a beautiful colourful garden for sunny days with plenty of tables and is on a country lane so very peaceful. We saw it also has a smart dining room and also bar dining for cooler days. We both enjoyed fish and chips - they do small and large options of this, priced accordingly, so we had one of each. Small is probably more suited to a child or person with very small appetite but hubby gave me some of his fish to top my portion up. Very tasty and perfectly cooked. We only had soft drinks so can't comment on wines etc. The pub landlord has a lovely golden retriever who does the rounds of diners hoping someone will be a soft touch - menu says please don't feed the pub dog:-) We intend to return sooner rather than later!

We had a nice meal here on Sunday . It was very busy and we had to book our table , which I think goes for most good restaurants in every case. The car park was full , both front and back , unfortunately a number of dog walkers were parking there to walk their dogs , so we had to park on the grass verge up the road . It was really busy inside and we had our table booked in the second session at 1430 hrs. I have to say in hindsight that it was a lucky decision as it meant we had longer to eat our food. I never like to feel rushed when eating but I won't hang around unnecessarily. There was a wait for the menus and in the meantime we ordered our drinks. The menu is varied, I think the Roasts are their speciality , but three of us went for the Fish and chips. I will say in advance , I like plain cooked tasty food in hood portions. I'm not adverse to sauces and spices but it must be plentiful. I think it nearly reached my expectations, not quite though. A few more Skin on chips , more peas and less batter on a bigger piece of fish that would have achieved another half star. However I would recommend the restaurant and the other meals I saw looked really good. The atmosphere was loud and busy , there was a good feel to the pub and the staff were excellent. We were attended by three females waitresses , they got the drinks order correct and the food order . I day this because that's not always the case in some pubs. The dessert menu was good too. Just enough choices but not overwhelming. The Sticky toffee pudding was fantastic and probably the pub's most popular dish. The rice pudding was excellent too , my wife's favourite. No photos this time as even I felt too self conscious to take them. To sum up , a very good experience and I would go again.

We parked here for a 2 hour walk around Danehill and went for fish and chips after, lovely pub with a nice garden. Our dog likes his space and there was plenty outside :)

Highly recommended. Two ladies offering a friendly welcome & delicious cream teas & sandwiches. And own car park too at ///tile.path.lend

The customer service was very good and there was a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe discourages people using laptops. Looked to be a good selection of cakes and drinks. The lunches we saw looked good quality but there are cheaper lunches available in Uckfield. We would us it again.

Popped in for a coffee whilst in the area for business. Charming little place. I simply wanted to mention this place as the flat white I had was a great, great cup of coffee. If only other coffee shops could provide similar quality.
