Experienced a Sunday roast at Courtyard Cafe - roast potatoes just like my nans, absolutely delicious- crisp with fluffy delightfulness inside, married with coliflower cheese and succulent pork, beef and yes chicken. Vegetables on point topped with Yorkshire puddings and delicious gravy. Followed by an amazing pudding of choice. Enough said I’m booking a return visit asap ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fantastic cafe in the heart of Rotherfield, the food is delicious with a selection of goodies on offer, and the staff are the most welcoming I have ever been served by, Michael, Eileen and the team are always so lovely, with parking across the road, delicious home made food and a warm welcome, what more could you ask for. Will defonatly be back.

After moving away from Rotherfield I always look forward to coming home, and the courtyard is definitely one of the reasons why. With warm and speedy service partnered with delicious food and a laid-back atmosphere, the Courtyard never fails to remind me of home! The full English is a MUST, can't beat perfectly cooked eggs and a pot of tea, and all so reasonably priced. There are delicious options catering to everyone, - a relief to my husband as he's a vegetarian and wouldn't stop raving about the sauteed mushrooms- and the breakfast was so good it managed to keep the kids quiet! (an absolute rarity). With seasonal, local produce, it encapsulates the best of British food and keeps even the pickiest of eaters happy :) truly a hidden gem you shouldn't hesitate to add to your list - can't wait to go again!

classical English cafe with wonderful service and delicious food, the courtyard is definitely a place to spend a wonderful time catching up with family. Upon entering I was pleased to be greeted by an efficient, confident waitress who showed us to our table and kindly ran us through the menu and the specials for that day. They also made special accommodations for my mother-in-law who uses a walking stick and is a diabetic and thankfully the menu had plenty of options to cater to this. Our food arrived promptly and was without a doubt amazing. The eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked and the bacon was just right! My party said much the same and the descending silence while we ate spoke volumes. The look of the Full English and breakfast hash served me with a severe bout of 'food envy' meaning I'm definitely going to be going again soon. Once we were presented with the bill we were all reasonably surprised by the price and all agreed it was great value for money. Will definitely be coming back as I had my eyes on those cakes! Be sure to pop in if your passing by.... you wont regret it.

A clean, pretentious café serving excellent food which failed a customer with disabilities. The quality of the food was unquestionably excellent although competing with the over-loud wailing of Bod Dylan made lunchtime conversation difficult and certainly not as relaxing as it should have been. Sadly, matters descended into a fiasco when it came to settling the bill; this being after my third request to do so (the waitress’ conversation with her chum appeared to be of greater priority). As a visually impaired person, the touch-screen card reader proved impossibly to use (even my sighted colleague was unable to successfully input a pin number therein). At this point rather than accept there was an issue with the machine (not the customer's fault), the inevitable accusation of a faulty card ensued (NO, it is your machine that is not ‘friendly’ towards visually impaired users) followed by the waitress stating she did not understand the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 (all businesses should understand Section 20 ‘Reasonable Adjustments’) thence the repeated questioning of ‘how are you going to pay’ with an unpleasant undertone. My colleague finally managed to settle the bill with one of his contactless cards. However, this unnecessarily unpleasant experience can only result in a two-star review, for whilst it was the card reader that proved unusable by this visually impaired customer, the associated attitude of the waitress demonstrated both an underlying intolerance and impatience towards a customer with disabilities.

The staff are very friendly and the food is tasty and beautifully presented, would recommend. We have visited many times over the last six plus years. Pre covid this Cafe changed hands. As of late this lovely place has lost its buzz. This is partly due, I feel to its slightly irratic opening hours . The Courtyard is in need of a little TLC and is, sadly a shadow of it's former self. This place was once the heart of the village and it has lost it's mojo. So bottom line, owners, please keep us informed of your regular opening times, so that you can become the go to place in the village.Brighten your window, re stock your sweets and where are the meringues, they were show stoppers?! You are fantastic people with gorgeous food, show it off.

Poor and expensive My friend and came here for a bit of lunch The lady that served us was lovely and very friendly, the coffee was lovely. We thought the food looked pretty expensive, £10 roughly, for a ciabatta. But, hey, if its amazing, then why not? My friend asked for chicken, avo etc brown sandwich, I ordered Brie, bacon and cranberry ciabatta. They came, very average looking for the price, and my friend was given a ciabatta, but it’s not the end of the world, we cracked on. Her chicken was very chewy and fatty, inedible ( we thought we’d mention it when we could) the rest of it was fine. Mine was ok, but not £10 worth. When the nice lady took our plates we mentioned about the chicken, she apologised and said she’d take off the bill…. Great, good way to manage it. THEN…. We went to pay, the man was very rude and dismissive, said we should have said about it before, and that we had actually eaten it!! But, then we said, it was actually supposed to be a sandwich too not a ciabatta, he was incredibly rude, and we will NOT be returning, Shame, as it used to be very good

Me and my Partner came here today (25th July 2020) for breakfast. I emailed the cafe before hand to see if we needed to book and do anything in order of coming due to the coronavirus situation. I managed to book a table for 2 of us at 9:30am. I got told to wear masks for entry of the cafe which we both did. When we arrived we went in and waited as told before waiting for our table! -(BOOKING IS ADVISABLE), sanitised our hands etc. We both sat down in this lovely little cafe. We had cup of tea to share which was a lovely. And I ordered Eggs Benedict which was cooked to perfection. And my partner had Salmon omelette, which he very much enjoyed. We would like to try out lunch here one day because the food is just so good. Micheal I understand owns the cafe and he cooks all the food, he does a brilliant job! There is another lady I couldn’t get her name which served us and she is so lovely. Great to have a chat with. So we will be returning at some point for breakfast or lunch again. But we would both defiantly recommend this cafe to anyone. Whether it’s just a coffee and a cake- ( all cakes are homemade and yummy!). Or if it’s for breakfast or lunch this is the perfect place for you. Just don’t forget to email or call to book so your not disappointed. Hope your enjoy your visit.

We came in for takeaway last weekend. 6 sandwiches and 4 drinks came to over £45 and for that price you would expect a far better quality of food. The sandwiches were bone dry, no seasoning or attention given what's so ever. The eggs was horribly over cooked, no butter on the bread nor did they offer any sauces. I ordered a flat white, what was received was not. A flat white to 2 shots of coffee and a measured amount of micro foam. It should be much smaller then the volume in a latte. I do feel my score my be an injustice as I'm sure if we were seated the experience would have been more pleasant. That said, if you charge those prices for take out you should give the same care and attention as those seated in the cafe. We have 8 of us in the group and we were all very disappointed.

I have visited here twice now. I came back in February with my Mum and Sisters and Godmother for breakfast catch up. We booked a table because there was 7 of us. As we walked in there was a few others sitting in their. We were welcome to large round table situated at the front of the cafe overlooking the view out the front. The lady working in there handed us all some menus and we all had a look through to see what we fancied. There was lots to choose from on the menus for breakfast or lunch. We ordered some drinks too. Me and one of my sisters ordered Eggs Benedict which was a toasted muffin with 2 eggs on top and bacon with hollandaise sauce, it was presented very lovely and tasted very good. My other sister had the cooked breakfast which she said was very tasty. My Mum ordered smashed avocado on toast which she’s never really had but enjoyed. And the other 2 people with us both had an omelette. We all very much enjoyed these meals. This cafe is set in such a lovely area of Rotherfield the parking isn’t so great along the high street but there is a free local car park just down the road to park and a walkway up to the high street to get to the cafe. Inside is lovely and decorated with lots of nice pieces. There is an open fire which is great. We will be returning again soon!!

The menu, which we had already arranged with Michael met our needs perfectly and was applauded by everyone as “delicious”. This is such a delightful place and a huge asset to the village. Although it is a cafe (with a great breakfast menu that goes through to lunch time), we chose it for a birthday lunch for my elderly Mum as she struggles to travel far. They don't have a licence, but we brought our own wine - when they saw we had brought fizz, the staff immediately brought out the champagne glasses. They could not have made my Mum feel more special - the whole cafe sang her happy birthday. The food is great, with a menu that has something for everyone...and it's really good value. Took my three daughters for a Sunday roast, lovely pub, staff were very friendly and courteous. But the roast was awful, I'm so sorry to say, dry bland turkey, soggy roast potatoes, one raw parsnip and frozen veg. The plate was sparse for £17 and definitely not worth it and we left deflated and disappointed! I've had weekday lunch here and it's been fine, just don't order a roast!!
