Love this pub, it's a thirty minute drive for me but well worth the trip out. Very friendly and helpful staff, a couple of decent real ales and excellent food. I was recommended the Fish & Chips by a friend and I was not disappointed ! It's also next to 'The Lavender Line' steam railway. Highly recommended. ! Ian

Ended up here after a long walk and was left feeling lovely after good simple food done well (had the sausages n mash), good pint of proper ale from clean pipes and really nice servers who clearly genuinely cared about my experience. Atmosphere was nice too, seems to be a bit of a community pub with lots of laughter and friendliness, rather than groups keeping themselves to themselves.

We went as large group of 12 on a Saturday night and everything was perfect. We didnt need to pre-order which was really helpful. The food was excellent and had a good selection of vegetarian options. Portion sizes were large which was good as we had just done a 13 mile walk ! Excellent service from all bar and waiting staff. Will definitely go back when next in the area.

We are a family of 8 including 2 under 16’s. We had booked a week in advance (which was wise as size of group but I have a feeling they would have accommodated us if we turned up with no booking) It was my Aunties birthday-so special occasion. Half of our party had the roast which was amazing (my brother who enjoys his food said best roast for years!) I had the steak pie which was also amazingly tender-large portions for everyone-can’t imagine anyone leaving here hungry! Lots of parking, nice outdoor area. Staff were amazing/welcoming & attentive. We took our own birthday cake that my nieces had made and the staff were great with the storing & serving of it. They provided plates & forks even though it meant we didn’t buy their desserts. Our code word for “cake time” was Mickey Mouse which the kids thought was great. Mixture of customers while we were there couples/ramblers/locals and dog walkers (dogs very well behaved & well catered for) Would thoroughly recommend to everyone! Hopefully get to return soon!

Good for when there is a train day on at Isfield. But in an area surrounded by great local breweries the beers on offer is sub par. Long Man on cask but nothing crafty or on keg. The wasps in the garden can spoil your lunch too. No play area for kids.

We stopped here for lunch and were greated warmly. Sat near a lovely fire. Good pint of Longman best bitter. Our food was okay but not the best. The fish and chips came out and it was obvious it had either been cooked for too long (the batter was dark brown) or the oil needed changing. I had the pie but again it was just okay. I appreciate how tough the pub game is but an improvement to the food would pay real dividends. Based on our experience, we probably wouldn't go back to eat there.

This used to be our go-to place for a lunch and is where we'd always recommend our Airbnb guests go. Sadly, no more as at June 2023. Something has changed in the last few months. There is a good range of beers and cider, pleasant and warm staff, and it's comfortable inside the pub. The place is massively let down by a decline in both food and outside facilities. On a Friday lunch, the outside tables in the garden were still grubby from the night before, there was litter around and various dog waste lay here and there, baking in the sunshine. We moved inside. The food - fish and chips - was dismal. The battered fish was chewy (possibly old?), crispy on one side and like soggy wallpaper paste on the other. The chips were furry, the salad brown, the frozen peas boiled to death and the tartare sauce had a skin over it and tasted dubious. A pub lunch or evening meal is not a cheap option, people deserve at least average food quality for the expense. The decline in standards here is awful to see, we desperately hope it changes for the better again, but someone needs to get a grip and not run it like it's a third class greasy spoon in a run-down area. It used to be quite vibrant, but almost no one was eating there today on a lovely friday in June.

An impromptu decision to have lunch out led us to the Laughing Fish. Haven't been here since before the pandemic and I knew it had changed hands. It's split into two halves, a restaurant half which is pleasantly lightly decorated and a bar room style without much change. Good choice of beers with guest local ales. Food menu seemed initially a bit on the high side but when the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes which were large and definitely worth the money. Also the food tasted great and my pie was stuffed full of meat. Proper pub grub. The staff were also very friendly and I'm looking forward to returning to this great little village pub. With so many pubs in Sussex who stop serving food from the afternoon on Sunday we needed somewhere to eat as it was 15:30. We phoned ahead and was greeted by a friendly voice who said "yes we serve food all day, come on down!" So we did. My partner and I both had delicious plates of roast beef and Lamb work all the trimmings. You get a decent amount of food and it was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed a chat with our newborn baby girl outside in the garden under the veranda. We came here on a recommendation on a Thursday 2.00 pm lunch treat. Unfortunately it wasn’t great from the start, there wasn’t any heating apart from a struggling log burner and an electric portable, which by the way we managed to sit at the table two feet away and still debated about putting our coats back on. I ordered the roast turkey , which I was told straight away that it was turkey roll not slices of breast but I was fine with that. When it arrived it was two slices of turkey, four parsnips and a small sweet potato, hardly enough for a child, it was tasty but disappointing. So on to desert… we were both going to order the banoffee pie as it’s one of our favourites but after discussing it with the waitress and hearing that it actually came what she called “ deconstructed “ crushed biscuit in one area ice cream on another and a caremelised banana to one side.. hardly banoffee pie as I know and love we opted out and went for the crumble.. can’t go wrong with crumble we thought.. oh dear got that wrong .. who leaves the skins on the pears when making a crumble.. it’s as if the chef is changing the recipe just for the sake of it when not necessary.its a pub not fu fu restaurant.sorry didn’t take any photos.wont be returning but after this review I expect they won’t want us back.

Stayed here for a long weekend and it is really amazing. I didn't know that Queen Elizabeth II was friends with the family and stayed here often. Didn't get the Windsor suite but never the less a really lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. Grounds are great and area really good for beautiful villages. Food very good as is wine. I found the wine selection limited but not really complaining as they were good wines. Our room was at top of hotel but there is a lift so if you have a problem with stairs use the lift. Room very comfortable and great view.
