Stayed here for a long weekend and it is really amazing. I didn't know that Queen Elizabeth II was friends with the family and stayed here often. Didn't get the Windsor suite but never the less a really lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. Grounds are great and area really good for beautiful villages. Food very good as is wine. I found the wine selection limited but not really complaining as they were good wines. Our room was at top of hotel but there is a lift so if you have a problem with stairs use the lift. Room very comfortable and great view.

Absolutley beautiful venue for a wedding! We were the wedding DJs at Horsted Place Hotel at the weekend for Mike and Alison and provided music outside for the ceremony, background music at the meal and the evening disco. We loved this place and all the staff were great! 100% recommend for anyone looking for a venue for their wedding!

Oh, where do I begin with my experience at Horsted Place Hotel, the four-star hotel and fine dining restaurant that exceeds expectations—of mediocrity? I had high hopes for an elegant getaway, complete with a luxurious atmosphere, but instead, I found myself immersed in a symphony of disappointments that were simply unforgettable. If by “unforgettable,” I mean “I want to forget this night ever happened.” Upon entering the lobby, I was welcomed by an ambiance that radiated, wait for it, absolutely nothing. The design, clearly inspired by the art of minimalism—probably too much minimalism—boasted dull beige walls that seemed to scream “we give up!” So inviting! And let’s not overlook the stunningly uncomfortable furniture, which was apparently chosen for its exquisite ability to promote thoughtfulness about one’s life choices, as you shift awkwardly trying to find a comfortable position. After the joy of a painstakingly slow check-in involving a clerk who appeared quite disinterested, I triumphantly marched toward my room, which, you guessed it, was just as charmed as the lobby. But wait, the adventure didn’t stop there! The moment I stepped into the hallways, I was serenaded by the delightful clinking of plates and cutlery echoing from the restaurant below. Ah, sweet symphony! The “fine” dining experience was quickly morphing into a bustling cafeteria, and I couldn’t help but feel transported to a casual brunch joint—sans the mimosas and with more clanging. Never one to let noise deter me from culinary delights, I decided to grace the restaurant with my presence. Walking in was akin to stepping into a dimly lit cave of unwelcoming décor. The ambiance was almost oppressive, with such an overwhelming lack of warmth that one could safely assume they had forgotten to install any charm. I half-expected to find tumbleweeds rolling by. The gentle clattering of plates migrating through the hallways only added to the serene wilderness experience. Ah, yes, the meal. The menu, bursting with grandiose descriptions and high hopes, arrived only to disappoint. Their signature dishes – apparently masterpieces of culinary innovation – bore none of the flavor you might hope for. Presentation? Exquisite. Taste? Non-existent. It was like they had crafted each dish in a lab using the essence of blandness. Trust me, the less you expect, the less you have to worry about being let down. Pro tip: Less is more, right? The service, too, was a special treat. The staff scurried around in a frantic dance, juggling plates, drinks, and their own sense of urgency, never quite managing to get it right. If only they could spend half as much time focusing on the needs of the guests as they did on monitoring the cacophony of clattering plate warfare. It was almost like they were aiming to break the world record for the most chaotic fine dining experience ever. After the grand ordeal of eating – and let’s not kid ourselves, finishing that so-called meal was an accomplishment – I thought perhaps my room would provide solace. Alas, it was more of the same! The delightful clattering persisted, likely an orchestration of staff rehearsing for “Hotel Noisiness 101.” I found myself longing for silence, or at the very least, a soundproof space where I could contemplate my life choices. In summary, my experience at Horsted Place Hotel and Restaurant was a masterclass in how to create an atmosphere of utter dullness interspersed with random sounds of chaos. With their exceptional flair for mediocrity, they’ve set the bar so low that it could hardly be tripped over. So if you’re searching for the quintessential experience of disappointment, Horsted Place is the place to be! Enjoy your stay—if you can manage to tune out the reality that nobody truly cares.

Booked afternoon tea for girlfriends birthday. When filling out the booking form I informed them that one of us was pescatarian. Arrived and shown to table… (probably the only bit of good service we received) Within a couple of minutes being seated we were served a mini quiche, which we noticed was on a side table as we walked to our our table. At this point no information was given on how afternoon tea worked, or which package we wanted. There was no checking to confirm our food allergies either. I had intended to upgrade our afternoon tea After 5/10 minutes was asked what tea or coffees we would like, asked for a menu/list… was told there wasn’t one and the waitress went through which teas were available. Came back to say confirm one of the orders couldn’t be had as had ran out of that tea. Food was brought out by a waitress… last time we saw any member of staff until we paid! With one person being pescatarian, pork sausage roles were placed on the same plate as all the sandwiches, we we would have spoken to someone but as stated no one came back after delivering the sandwiches. The issue throughout our time was with the real lack of service, and care during our visit. The fact we didn’t see anyone once our sandwiches were delivered to our table nor asked how everything was and if we require anything else, showed real lack of customer service. A shame as what looked like was going to be a lovely afternoon, turned out to be very underwhelming and disappointing.

The hotel gave us the closest feeling to being at home away from home! It is a wonderful place, quiet, clean, beautifully decorated, with kind staff and lovely garden. The food was also excellent, one can order just about anything at breakfast without being charged additionally for each extra item. The decor is subtle and of very high quality and in superb taste. Immaculate garden. Helpful and discreet staff. Funny old-fashion elevator, almost as creaky and slow as my old bones. 🙂 The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and very quiet. All room facilities are of understated luxury. Really a superb place to relax, go away and hide from the hustle and bustle of life. Transport for clients can be arranged - by car, by bus, or by helicopter - if one so desires! Golf course near by.

We enjoyed a return visit to Horsted Place and once again had a very enjoyable stay On arrival we were warmly greeted by Charlie who allocated us the Tower Suite. The room is spacious with extensive views of the surrounding land. The furnishings were of a high standard and the king size bed was very comfortable. We dined in the Pava restaurant and were cared for by Bruno,Lola,Lottie and Charlie who are exceptional staff and and were polite, friendly and helpful. Credit must go to the chef and his team for providing our pork and gammon meals that were very enjoyable. We enjoyed our breakfast that set us up for the day and thank you to our waitress Louise. It was nice to catch up with Adam the manager and be informed of the positive changes being made since our last visit. Horsted is a very special hotel with great staff and it's always a treat to visit and we look forward to another stay very soon

My husband and I were invited for Christmas Day dinner with friends. Our friends were treating us, having traveled from the Isle of Wight for the event and having great expectations, having had food there in the past. Unfortunately, our whole group was very disappointed. We arrived early and were greeted with a glass of processo and friendly staff. However, after being seated in the lounge we expected to be at our table at the booked time. Our party of seven was finally taken to a private room just over an hour after our booked time, and at no time was an apology given for the delay in being seated. the time had been chosen early as we had an elderly couple at our party and wished to travel home before it was dark. The rooms both the lounge and dining room were sparsely decorated fitting a Christmas day dinner with no tree or decorations and no fire lit. The private room had a red runner on the table and crackers but that was the extent of the decorations Our table was very large and we had almost to shout at each other in conversation. the food was fine but not fine dining as expected from the price. Along with one other member of our party needing special dietary requirements,(informed well in advance at the original booking some months before) there was no alternative offered for cheese and biscuits or mince pies. we had to ask for spoons on the table and when the coffee arrived we had to once again ask for dairy-free milk alternatives. Due to the lateness of our seating, it was dark outside when we finished our meal, and we were in the overflow car park which had no lighting, and with two disabled members of our group it was unstable underfoot. at no point was there an offer to open the side door or help get our disabled down the stairs. Sadly a truly disappointing experience.

Our friend this year invited us to stay with her this Christmas and bought my wife and I Christmas Day lunch at Horsted Place as a gift, which we shared as part of their family party of 7. They booked after we all had several very enjoyable meals before. This was the largest party the restaurant had on the day, so they informed us. We arrived in plenty of time, for 1230, we were ushered into the lovely lounge area by the lit open fire and were given a glass of Prosecco each, as part of the meal and we expected to be seated at 1300. However, after asking several times, we were eventually taken through to a private room at 1400. The room was sparsely decorated, with no tree or decorations. The fire was unlit and so the cosy atmosphere of the lounge was replaced by a cold barren room. The meal was a total disappointment, no effort seemed to have been taken on any of the courses, and only the politeness of the guests who had allergies prevented us from complaining there and then. Basic things were missing and we had to ask for them, such as serving spoons and sugar. There was no cranberry or bread sauce. The puddings/sweets were minute, and there was no alternative for these or the cheese and biscuits for those with allergies (which had been notified well in advance to the restaurant, at time of booking) also we had to ask for a dairy milk alternative for these guests, which included my wife. The staff did their best and were polite and attentive, but even this could not distract from the very underwhelming meal and surroundings. On leaving the restaurant, due to the delay in being seated, it was pitch black outside. The booking had been made deliberately early to enable two elderly guests to drive back to Shoreham in daylight. Also, our cars, due to no space in the main car park, even though two of us are disabled, had been parked in the overflow carpark. On leaving the restaurant there was no lighting to see along the rough path to the cars and no offer of assistance from the staff. It was as if as we left the restaurant, they were finished with us. Not happy, what should have been a very enjoyable experience, was in fact one of the most disappointing restaurant Christmas meals we have had and we have had many.

We usually love having lunch at Horsted Place, have had Christmas lunch here before and have thoroughly enjoyed having a champagne in the lounge with the Christmas Tree and then going through to one of the dining rooms within the hotel and the buzz of waiters, etc. This year a disaster. We were allocated as non-residents to lunch in The Garden Room, a new edition. Nicely decorated but didn't feel Christmassy at all, no waiters buzzing around but having to go to the kitchens to bring pre-ordered food in - the food was excellent, and they even brought individual gravy boats - a nice touch but there was just no atmosphere. Then to our disappointment coffee was at the table and no suggestion of taking our coffee into the lounge which we have always done before. So unless you stay there at Christmas - don't bother going.

Celebratory lunch which did not disappoint. We did not particularly like the restaurant room and asked if we could eat in the (I think) Royal room overlooking the lawn (rather than the car park!) and they said fine. We have visited many times, when booking we had informed them that one person had an intolerance to onion which has never been a problem in the past.when we placed our orders with the waiter all roast main courses,we asked for an onion free gravy for one guest, the waiter went to the kitchen and returned saying the chef could not do an onion free gravy, which seemed strange as we had had it before.Eventually he agreed as we were going to walk out . When the three main course meals came the plate was overwhelmed with a large overcooked Yorkshire pudding two guests askedfor Horseradish to go with the their beef but the waiter came back and said they didn’t have any.The quality of the meal was very poor. We certainly will not be returning .

We celebrated my partners birthday with a family afternoon tea here. We arrived to a vacant reception area but were eventually shown through to the 1980's decor drawing room. This empty room resembled a care home in which all the residents had died! A bizarrely dressed (kind of 1890's clad) girl laid our table in complete silence before the tea was served (but not poured) by another mute. We were then left to fend for ourselves!! Not once in the 2.5 hours of being there were we checked upon! In fact, no one at all came back into the room for the entire duration of our visit! The tea didn't keep hot so we ended up drinking it cold! The sandwiches were hard, bordering on stale. We would have complained had there been anyone at all around to complain to. All in all, the whole experience was a disgrace. A waste of £88. Perhaps a visit from the Hotel Inspector might shake things up around here. If nothing else, it might drag the drab decor and weird 'Adams Family' like waitresses into the 21st Century! Whoever manages this place needs to take note. Shockingly bad experience!

Log fires were blazing away as we enjoyed canapes and drinks in the drawing room and discussed the menu. It was difficult to choose - everything sounded delicious - and although tempted by the guinea fowl and venison, I chose scallops with chorizo to be followed by the beef fillet main course. The scallops were elegantly presented and perfectly cooked. The beef was fantastic, cooked medium rare as requested, with creamed spinach and a sauce to die for. Then came puddings! My husband raved about the treacle tart with orange sorbet while my daughter and I enthused over the cheesecake. . You can pay similar prices in pubs for less exciting food served at bare tables with hard chairs, paper serviettes and condiments in sachets. Horsted Place with its comfortable ambience and starched table linen is in a different league.

My wife and I attended a close friends wedding reception here and had a wonderful time. The setting is picturesque and the hotel itself is an impressive building. The staff were attentive yet unobtrusive meaning we never had an empty glass or needed to ask for anything. The food itself was superb, we opted for a vegetarian option which was very tasty and more imaginative than usual, a beautifully cooked vegetable rissole on sweet potato with grilled Halloumi and seasonal veg with a creamy sauce mmmmmm. The dining room was warm and set out perfectly and r the service impeccable. The wedding party all seemed to be thoroughly happy and enjoying themselves. A lovely afternoon and evening was had by all!

Our table by the bay window overlooked the expansive grounds of this hotel, the autumn trees glistening in the sunshine. A perfect location then and so when the food arrived we were in the mood to enjoy it. And what a feast for a set price lunch menu. A healthy portion of poached salmon as a starter with a chunky piece of hake as a main course with well cooked accompaniments. The wine was good and reasonably priced. Coffee in another room allowed further views of those trees and set us up well for Glyndebourne Touring only 6 miles away.

We had Sunday lunch at Horsted Place with our family. The perfect setting for a celebratory meal or just for a quiet meal for a couple. From having pre dinner drinks to completing the meal, the service was first class. The food is excellent. We have visited this restaurant and the hotel several times and it always lives up to its reputation.

If you visit this restaurant make sure you have a party of less than 10 otherwise they will expect everybody to eat the same food off the menu even though you have choices!!They charge the earth to begin with, but then to dictate what your party should eat and also adding a £2 surcharge to roast beef to boot it is the last straw.Avoid this so called "restaurant" at all costs. It just is not worth the effort or the extortionate price they will undoubtedly charge you, so you can all eat the same food!!The worse experience of my life!If you want to waste a few hundred pounds this is the place to do it!!You have been warned

We had lunch here in August 2016. It is a grand place but without the stuffiness you can get in these places. We all had the set menu, fantastic quality at a reasonable price. The service was great too. Definitely one for special occasions, or when you want simply to feel special!

Having booked a Sunday Lunch for my wife's birthday, we were pleased to be sited within the resturant, but on a large table, which enable ample space for the Grandchildren (3 & 5 months). The staff were accomdating and food served in an appropriate manner for our family needs. The food was exceptional and we felt it was good value for money.

Visited Horsted Place Restaurant on Wednesday 20th January with three of my Sussex Wildlife Trust former colleagues. We were greater at the door, our coats were taken for us and we were seated in the Drawing room with offers of aperitifs and the menu/wine list to read very quickly. Lunch was superb, service excellent and we had coffee and petit fours in the Drawing room after our meal. We sat for a long time with the sun shining through the windows just catching up on each other's news! A truly great day - thank you.

We loved our experience here and intend to repeat it as soon as possible. The ambiance of Horsted is second to none and we felt immediately at home as soon as we walked through the doors. The drawing room is spacious and with the fires lit creates a wonderful warm and inviting atmosphere. We found all aspects of the service first class and extremely respectful. There is something quintessentially English about good manners and in our opinion everyone here is very courteous and very well trained and personable. The food is beautifully presented and more importantly it tastes delicious. We had the pork belly and tian to start and enjoyed both courses. For mains we opted for the beef and the lamb. The beef and the lamb were both cooked pink and all extras were of an equal standard. The horseradish sauce was sublime. Desserts were executed with a skill and passion of a top class chef. We loved it all!Iced tap water was not a problem. Asking for extra butter and extra gravy was also not a problem. No service charge - thank you for that - as we the diner appreciate the chance to thank our hosts as we see fit. So all in all a glorious lunch in a fantastic location with great food and top class service. Total cost for 2 four course meal (coffee & petit fours), 2 champagne cocktails, 1 bottle of Sauvignon blanc and 1 amaretto was approx £121.00 and worth every penny. Thank you for a lovely lunch. We appreciated all elements of the experience …

Just home after a delightful 1 night stay on a dinner/b&b deal. I have to say the whole experience was delightful and excellent value. The dinner was superb, with a good (and difficult!) choice of dishes. The Scallop starter, fillet of beef main course and velvet chocolate cake dessert where really good! The room (Windsor Suite) was very spacious and comfortable with a lovely view out onto the walled garden. The staff were all very attentive without being obtrusive, Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cereals and cooked choices. The scrambled eggs were lovely! I look forward to staying again soon!

For a start the menu isn't very long (the wine list - mostly French, and good - is!).However the food choices are all interesting, beautifully prepared and served without undue waiting. It is very nearly 'fine dining' but it certainly happens in a fine room with high ceilings, well spread out tables, linen napkins and quality cutlery and glass. The restaurant overlooks delightful gardens and grounds. Service from reception right through to the dining room is of a very high standard. Several complimentary delicacies accompanied the excellent cafatiere of coffee. The Morning Room is a delightful and peaceful room, The cloakrooms are spotless and well furnished. The whole place exudes a wonderful aura of peace and calm. It is a refuge from the hurly-burly of modern llfe but with modern standards. It is hard to expect more.

We took some American friends here for a lunch. They were so impressed that ever since they keep writing and phoning saying how this to them is an absolute highlight when considering all the venues they visited on their extensive tour around the UK.We guessed they would be impressed as it upholds what many would call old fashioned virtues of a quiet, classy, highly professional restaurant serving excellent food with the aid of truly top quality well trained staff. It should be on everyone's list.

We went for Sunday lunch with friends, the food was very nice and there was a good choice of wines, but something was missing! no one to greet you on arrival, and if this was your first time at Horsted you could have been a bit lost on where to go especially as many of the seating areas in the drawing room had reserved notices on them. However the service was timely and the waitress who served us was efficient and friendly.Well worth a visit but left feeling that the we were not that important to them and with so many choices in the area not sure we would hurry back.

Stumbled across here after our table elsewhere wasn’t ready way after we’d booked and it was exactly what we were looking for. Cosy with a table next to the fire, we had a lovely roast and a burger. Service was friendly too. Made even better with a dog next to our table :)

We came here on a recommendation on a Thursday 2.00 pm lunch treat. Unfortunately it wasn’t great from the start, there wasn’t any heating apart from a struggling log burner and an electric portable, which by the way we managed to sit at the table two feet away and still debated about putting our coats back on. I ordered the roast turkey , which I was told straight away that it was turkey roll not slices of breast but I was fine with that. When it arrived it was two slices of turkey, four parsnips and a small sweet potato, hardly enough for a child, it was tasty but disappointing. So on to desert… we were both going to order the banoffee pie as it’s one of our favourites but after discussing it with the waitress and hearing that it actually came what she called “ deconstructed “ crushed biscuit in one area ice cream on another and a caremelised banana to one side.. hardly banoffee pie as I know and love we opted out and went for the crumble.. can’t go wrong with crumble we thought.. oh dear got that wrong .. who leaves the skins on the pears when making a crumble.. it’s as if the chef is changing the recipe just for the sake of it when not necessary.its a pub not fu fu restaurant.sorry didn’t take any photos.wont be returning but after this review I expect they won’t want us back.
