The Lobby Bar in City of London, Westminster

Julia looked after us superbly today, we always meet at One Aldwych when we come to meet in London. The cocktails are amazing and the service is exceptional, thank you for always making us feel so welcome. Amanda, Lisa, Sarah & Sue xxx

We had the pleasure of dining here for lunch on my birthday. I had read the review by Becky Excell author of amazing gluten free baking books. I decided to have the Day Boat Devon Battered Fish & Chips with crushed peas and the mouthwatering tartare sauce. It was beautifully crispy and fresh. The fish just melted in the mouth, it was all very tasty indeed. The chips were a wonder too, crispy & fluffy inside. All in all a most excellent plate of food. I could not resist the dessert Cornish Chocolate Mousse. It was exquisite and had the most velvety soft mousse, a flavour packed banana crème fresh with a raisin/sultana fruit compote. Finished off with 2 thin shaped chocolate curves. I must also comment on the cup of hot chocolate I had, it was so chocolatey and delightful. So much so I had two! The staff were a credit to the establishment very attentive and assured everything was gluten free. Our overall experience was one of the best we have had. It made my birthday trip to London such a wonderful break. So much so we are planning another trip to stay here in their hotel and take in a show in Covent Garden.

The lobby bar was a lovely spot for pre-theatre drinks. The surrounding area of Covent Garden can feel pretty hectic so it was great to kill an hour here before seeing a show. The cocktails we had were superb and the building is unique.

Went here on an impulse and out of curiosity with friends for drinks before going ice skating…. found it very inviting and cosy. Drinks on the other hand are on the EXPENSIVE side but you pay for the ambiance and location, I suppose… What upset us is when we asked the waitress if gin comes with the tonic, we were told YES it does!!! Only to find out later when we asked for the bill that it doesn’t…. And we were charged 9£ for 2 tonics. I get that some places sell it separately but please there is no need to mislead your customers! We did point out to our waitress when she came to take payment and we were told that in their system, tonic comes in a small print under the gin… which made no sense!!!! Won’t be returning… made us feel like we were cheated…

Lovely setting, great food. I’m not used to London prices, so found it a tad expensive. 4 club sandwiches, 3 glasses of wine, 2 coffees and a hot chocolate set me back nearly £200!

Lovely comfortable space with a great bar menu. Good atmosphere, particularly nice for lunch or evening drinks.

Booked in very excited about the Jazz and small plates in Lobby bar. The music was very safe, elevator Jazz, and the menu was limited. The staff were lovely and service efficient. Pricey but it is London's West End! We had a bottle of Rioja (£60) and a charcuterie board (£21) (quite small portion but good quality) Would not race back but enjoyed our visit

Lovely drinks and food pre theatre for my wife’s 40th birthday We were looked after by a lovely server who kindly waited on us throughout There was a mix up with bill that I was initially frustrated with but the server then kindly said he would pay extra and difference. He was really upset that we were upset. He shouldn’t be. He was superb all night and I hope the tip we gave him on way out made up for my initial challenge. We are down from Scotland and the situation was dealt with empathy. London and this restaurant/bar should be proud of having staff like this. He may think he ruined our night but in hindsight he made it. I hope he is able to see this and realize that we recognizes his efforts

Fantastic cocktails and a great ambience! We were guests of the Food & Beverage manager. The cocktails were fantastic, both from the classic menu and the Christmas/festive menu. There was a cocktail with a bubble which I found very delicious and the smoke bubble added another layer of flavour, memory and enjoyment. Staff were excellent, the barman allowed me to try two types of spirit I’d never seen before. He even gave me a lesson on how they’re made and their attractive qualities both for a drinker and marketer (not that I am). Service overall was very attentive and we couldn’t be happier with it. Decor also phenomenal - perhaps one of the most uniquely dressed and well dressed Christmas trees I’ve ever seen. Very enjoyable and highly recommended! We will be back!

Beautiful bar in the hotel lobby. Very comfortable chairs and couches. Impeccable service. Beautifully crafted drinks served in gorgeous glass ware. This time we had the charcuterie board and it was wonderful! Will definitely return!

The environment is beautiful, but the staff are rude. There were plenty of empty tables, but we were forced to sit on a tiny uncomfortable table very close to another group. Never again.

Wanted somewhere special for cocktails on a birthday day in London. The Lobby Bar did not disappoint. We choose some cocktails from their Floral Street collection. Scratch and sniff menu was fun! Cocktails tasted brilliant and we received a free fragrance sample too! Bravo! My brother even got a little birthday brownie! Great service!

We had a couple of hours trying out the cocktails. The drinks were lovely and looked gorgeous. The atmosphere was just right for a late afternoon drink. The staff were attentive courteous couldn’t do any better. We all had a lovely hour and half.

The Bar! But mainly due to the Manager! We started our night here for aperitifs before visiting Dipna Anand at Somerset House for supper. We had a lovely experience with Marco, he went above and beyond. We really enjoyed two cocktails before we had to dash to Somerset House for supper. It was really meant to be one cocktail but Marco inspired a second and we really appreciated it. However, this was not the case once we returned after supper. (Let me point out that the following has nothing to do with with Marco or the experience he provided upon our return. Not the negative part anyway) After Dipna Anand we decided that we wanted to end the evening back at the bar we had very much enjoyed at the start of our evening. It’s Friday…We all had a long week. A pretty dreadful one for two of us. We chose to return because of the experience we had received earlier in the evening. Marco instantly recognised me and my “Mothers”…We instantly felt at ease and were sat at a much nicer and private location than before. Marco seems genuinely pleased to see the three of us back and eager to serve us as returning guests. We deviated from cocktails this time and ordered a bottle of red wine, to share and finish off what was a splendid night, catching up with Mother 2 and Mother 3 after a long week of hard work. Half way through our bottle of wine… Mother 2 was overcome by her working week. (FYI she works very hard in the NHS and still does this past retirement age) Unfortunately she got to a point in this evening where she needed to rest her eyes whilst myself and Mother 3 continued to consume our bottle of wine and discuss the importance of parental interaction with Friends and Colleagues. (Clearly we set the world to rights and came to a logical conclusion) However, we were suddenly met by the abhorrent interjection from a Manager of the bar… Claiming that mother 2s behaviour (Resting her eyes after a 50 hour plus working week) was completely unacceptable in their establishment and rather uncouth. He proceeded in his insincere politeness to requested that she immediately wake up and stay alert or we abruptly finish up and leave. Because, it is absolutely unacceptable that their establishment be seen this way.! (What a 65 year old woman that works 50 hours + a week, unexpectedly falling asleep at the end of her working week, is completely unacceptable in your establishment?!) “Sir” I think your behaviour is completely unacceptable in your establishment and we most certainly won’t be visiting again! When mother 2 was woken from resting her eyes, she was so mortified that we had ben told to correct her behaviour or leave. This is not the experience we are used to. Our local is The Stage at The Londoner (Hotel) and we frequent there for pre and post drinks upon a successful supper, quite regularly. Never would this level of rudeness be displayed towards us there. But this week we fancied a change. For most part of it, it was extremely enjoyable… Mainly due to Marco and his exemplary customer service “Experience”. But later… unfortunately let down by a manager who clearly can not read a room or guests. This was not causing any nuisance to anyone visiting the bar. In fact we were only visible by team members of the establishment. Upon his request I asked for the bill whilst myself and mother 3 perked up mother 2, finished our wine and got ready to leave. The bill arrived from Marco but there was not urgency for for us to settle it and remove ourselves (He clearly was unaware that we had been treated so rudely.) The Manager seemed unaware that I’d asked for the bill. To the point I had to take myself the bar to settle the bill as we just wanted to leave. Mother 2 was embarrassed and made to feel like she had to leave, but we still wanted to settle this bill. So I asked the Bar could I settle the bill, they were more than happy to assist. Once payment was confirmed I kindly informed them to let their manager know that I didn’t appreciate his rudeness towards my people and that we most certainly won’t be visiting again. I also made it very clear that Marco was fantastic and that my disappointment was solely aimed specifically towards the manager. Before we had left, the bar tender that took payment clearly relayed my message to the manager. No effort was made to correct our experience. Even though we had to pass by both Marco to say thank you and the manager standing next to him as we left. Absolutely disgusted that Mother 2 was treated this way and very disappointed that our experience here from Marco was ruined by a disgusting manager that is a detriment to your brand and client retention.

Great cocktails and the people watching was the best in a while! Extensive list of drinks including cocktails which while not cheap are tasty and imaginative. Don't come here for a cheap date. We booked a month in advance because I wanted to guarantee a table. People watching made us smile (we were having dinner elsewhere locally so only stayed an hour). Definitely a place people go to be seen often with fairly scant clothing despite the chilly February temperatures)! Would go again, a great way to start a night on the town.

Although I prefer how it looked before the re vamp, the staff make this place. They are so wonderful and attentive, been coming here for many years and I've never had a bad night here. Drinks are amazing and the bar food is excellent. Highly recommend.

I contacted the Lobby Bar two days before by email to see if we could reserve a table for 6.00pm on Tuesday, 26 November. I was told this was not possible for parties of less than 10 people and therefore I should just turn up and hope for the best. OK. I can accept that. But, I wasn't told that the date and time I had asked about had already been booked for a private party. Had I been told such, I would not have turned up and wasted my time.As it was, I turned up at about 5.40pm to be greeted by about 4 suited gentlemen at the door (why does it need so many?). "What do you want?" one of them asked, rather curtly. I told him I was here for a drink. "Oh no, you're not, as the Lobby Bar is booked for a private event this evening. You must go to the residents' lounge opposite". So, we did. But, on entering the lounge we were again asked "What do you want?". I explained that we had been sent there by the doorman to be told by the waitress "You can't come in here if you are not resident. I only have one table free". I said we only wanted one table but I was still told "you aren't having it". So, I said to my colleagues, let's go to the Waldorf instead. I'm sure we'll be treated better there. And, sure enough, we were.Not sure if I'll ever come back here after this disgraceful treatment.

This venue has gone complete refurbishment since the last time we were here, only a few months ago. There is more sitting area. Very clean and nice atmosphere.The wine list is extensive, it is expensive in a comparison to other venues of the same caliber in London. Still, its a nice place, looking good, attentive waiters even tough our waiter did make 2 mistakes regarding the wine..... Perhaps he was new.

I have visited the lobby bar with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. We had drinks before our dinner and the cocktails were amazing; we had couple of cocktails from the “Spirit of Adventure” menu. Service was impeccable, attentive and not intrusive. We will visit again soon.

Very satisfied with the tailored and detailed delivery of drinks and service. Found a relaxed and tranquil place to spend Saturday evening and loved to contemplate a painting of Jackson Pollock. The protagonist drinks from across the world is a highly engaging list and enjoyed very much the experience. Will be back when in London.

Great afternoon tea and faultless service. My friends and I have been to many afternoon teas and this was exceptional with fantastic presentation and attention to detail. All the staff were friendly especially Marie and Guillaume. This was the best afternoon tea experience and we all would certainly go again.

A couple of after dinner drinks following meal in Indigo upstairs. Bring plenty of cash as not a cheap drinking venue.

Staying at the Aldwych, I had the opportunity to sample many of the drinks that this Bar can provide. It is a upscale place, and the live music that was playing on Friday night, was easy on the ear and provided good entertainment. But, the drinks, especially the Boiler Maker, are what makes this place. The wait staff was perfect in making recommendations for you and knew just when to bring the drinks and clear the table for the next round. A charming place, the place to entertain a special someone for a romantic drink before dinner, or to meet your business associates at.

Ma famille avons été déçus par cet afternoon tea Charlie & la chocolaterie plutôt très cher et pas forcément d'exception. La présentation était superbe mais les goûts des salés n'étaient pas terribles, avec des alliances un peu étranges... Pour la partie sucrée magnifiquement présentée, ce n'était malheureusement que du sucre en bouche qui empêchait de profiter des différents goûts et textures... Même mes enfants qui sont pourtant des becs à sucre ont trouvé ça beaucoup trop doux et ont eu de la peine à finir... Le service et l'endroit était OK, normal pour un 5 étoiles quoi... Le cocktail était très bien.

Our 10 year old god child asked if we could go here for her birthday. The hotel is really nice and we were escorted upstairs to the afternoon tea dining room. It was busy but not too busy. It wasn't loud even though it was mainly families, The waiter who looked after us was really informative about the menu and the drinks offers and they do a different sandwich menu for the children which is nice and its slightly cheaper at £35 per child that said I do think they could make more effort with the children's selection as its a ham, cheese and jam triangle each. The scones and the cakes/sweets are amazing and we left very full. As it was a birthday they did bring over a little cake for the birthday girl which was a nice touch. I would return if one of the kids wanted to go again but if it was just adults then I would probably go somewhere different as you have so many to choose from in London.

I wanted to do something a bit different for my friends birthday so booked the Willy Wonka themed afternoon tea at One Aldwych. We were treated by friendly and attentive staff who showed us to the bar so we could order a drink as we were a bit early for our sitting. When our table was ready they came and got us and pointed us in the right direction. Throughout the tea the staff were amazing, they were very friendly, discussing our plans for our time in London, asking about the beautiful weather and providing plenty of detail about the wonderful treats we were about to consume. The food was delicious and is definitely worth the trip and the money if you have a sweet tooth. The lemon candy floss was delicious and they come back and offer you more of anything you like. The mint chocolate milk shake is to die for! We had the table for 2 hours which was plenty, we weren’t rushed and felt like that was plenty of time. During one of our early conversations, one of the waitresses asked the reason behind our visit and we mentioned it was my friends birthday a few weeks before and this was her present, halfway through our tea they arrived with a small slice of chocolate cake with a beautiful happy birthday chocolate on it and a candle, it was a lovely and unexpected touch. The venue is lovely and it was just a really wonderful couple of hours. My only comment is that as a ‘themed’ tea, it would have been nicer if the venue was decorated to add to the atmosphere but as the venue is used for other events and menus, I understand why this may not be possible. Overall, a brilliant event and would go again!

This was such a lovely experience!! Booked afternoon tea before a theatre visit and the food was amazing, really interesting choices and unlimited service of any items you wanted extra. Every member of staff was also absolutely lovely, couldn’t fault it and we’ll worth every penny!

I recently moved house, so my friend treated me to afternoon Tea, and I must say it was truly amazing.

We visited for my birthday and had an amazing time. The food is absolutely stunning and the service very good*. There are so many touches that take it from a standard afternoon tea to a really fun experience.

The afternoon tea with relations to Charlie and the chocolate factory is amazing. With all the little finger food, smoking drinks and small cakes :-) Be aware it is a bit expensive, but I think it was well worth the money. The lounge can be a bit loud and I would not recommend taking small children, as it is a fancy place.

by far the best afternoon tea i have had and the first vegan one....great thought into the food and much tastier than the ordinary option..... we asked for more savoury as these were so good and top notch desserts espcialy the vegan clotted cream made with pineapple....absolutely amazing :) YUM

I recently enjoyed my solo afternoon tea experience at One Aldwych. The staff were so friendly and made me feel welcome. I can't believe how much food I was able to stuff into my tummy. Everything was so delicious especially that cheddar scone and bacon jam. I've done a few solo afternoon teas and this one was one of my favorites.

We had afternoon tea here to celebrate my partners 30th birthday . He has a real sweet tooth and was a perfect treat!

We loved this experience as we love afternoon tea and Willy Wonka. Loved that this was unique and quirky. Everything was delicious and the presentation of the sweets was good, was a bit disappointed in the presentation of the savories, but oh well. Not that big of a deal. Staff was great and made us feel special. We enjoyed the experience and would recommend this for sure!

Came for Charlie and the chocolate factory tea for 4 adults and 4 kids. They could’ve just name it afternoon tea as the theme was not represented. It was very boring and blah for us and kids. The kids didn’t like anything but the cotton candy. It wasn’t really kid friendly. It was a waste of our money. I didn’t have tea and had juice. They charged me extra for the second glass. Would not recommend this. Plenty of other afternoon tea places that are well worth the price.

The Charlie & the chocolate factory themed afternoon tea here is great! & they cater for all dietary requirements. The service is superb and the hotel is lovely. I would 100% recommend going here.

I’d booked this afternoon tea as my husbands birthday present some time ago.

3rd visit to this afternoon tea and it never disappoints! The selection of savoury and sweet is so well thought out, beautifully presented, perfect balance and flavours. I am an earl gray tea person always but they have a really different selection of teas as well as cocktails and champagne. Lovely setting and staff are attentive and can’t do enough for you. They always make it extra special with a birthday candle/dessert. Definitely go here for afternoon tea with a difference - one of the best in London!

Habíamos comido en el restaurante el día anterior y nos detuvimos en el bar del vestíbulo para la hora feliz y disfrutamos de nuestro vino antes de salir a cenar. El servicio era bueno y la selección de vinos es excelente. Lo recomendaría si estás en la zona durante la hora feliz. La música tampoco estaba mal.

Visité a mi madre en mayo después de una recomendación de un amigo y quedé absolutamente impresionado de principio a fin. Como ambos éramos vegetarianos, los cambios de menú no fueron un problema y nos acomodaron muy bien. Las golosinas sabrosas nos superaron según sea necesario, el personal fue muy atento con esto pero no intrusivo en absoluto. Qué fantástico té de la tarde con un personal increíblemente acogedor, amable y servicial. Lo recomendaría encarecidamente a todos los amantes del té de la tarde, esto definitivamente me hizo nostálgico pensar en leer el libro Charlie and the Chocolate Factory y ver la película original durante mi infancia (¡el algodón de azúcar en particular!). Es más caro que la mayoría de los tés estándar de la tarde, pero vale la pena el dinero en mi opinión.

Have stayed here before but this time just wanted a quick drink in the bar before dinner elsewhere. Was very busy but the staff soon had a table for me & my partner. Great range of drinks & superb service. Lots of atmosphere. Can recommend.

Of course being in the middle of Covent Garden and being an hotel lobby bar means you can expect the prices to be less than merciful, but One Aldwych's lobby bar is clearly worth the extra expenditure. Not only does the hotel have a very relaxed and calming ambience, but the cocktail list here is easily among the top few cocktail lists I've seen in my life. The mixologists here are innovative and the cocktails are made with top-shelf ingredients. The results are novel and memorable to say the least; if you've ever wondered about the possibility of blending a cocktail with a VR experience, One Aldwych has that covered!

Es un espectáculo para estar seguro! Nos alojamos en el hotel y terminado hasta las noches aquí. Un bar perfecto!

We had cocktails here on a Saturday evening. The cocktail list is the most imaginative I have seen for a long time.

Great bar but astronomical drinks prices. Drinks (cocktails and beer) were good but with them averaging over £15.00 they should have been the best in London. Only go if you have plenty of cash to splash.

Great place to hang out with a well made drink. Lovely surroundings, excellent very attentive service even when busy, free tasty bar snacks, live piano late on. Not cheap (£10 for G&T; but worth it.

We enjoyed coffee (and a delicious home-made macaroon) in this bar and admired the way tables had been set up for afternoon tea. Great atmosphere, interesting cocktails and stylish flowers - the hotel has an in-house florist and the displays were spectacular.

We were amazed at this bar we discovered at the start of our night out. Incredible decor staff, service, food, cocktails- and prices! If you're after a special start to a special night with a big budget, do try.

Our fave bar to go to after a West End show! Great ambience, amazing decor for a lobby bar, nice and friendly staff, great service and very relaxing to go to for a cocktail. I love love love this place!

Specialty drinks are superb and the mixologists can also make designer drinks to suit the individual palate.

De cócteles aquí antes fizz y cine en el hotel. Luminoso y espacioso y un buen ambiente, pero no demasiado concurrida de moda. Volvería.

Very professional and attentive staff with a textbook perfect Margarita.Offered a magazine or newspaper which as a solo guest was much appreciated.This bar is still wonderful after all these years !

Stopped off here for client entertainment along with colleagues. Very busy but service quick and efficient. Nice setting with a professional ambiance. Quality setting , nice as a treat!

I think the service here has ramped up from years ago when you had to chase down a waiter for a drink. Glad to see they have scrapped the salt & vinegar popcorn as a drink snack which was so strong it made you choke. Instead we had olives and mixed nuts. The flowers were as stunning as ever.

We just visited the Lobby Bar with my wife and had a splendid time! Pedro Paulo with his old fashioned trolley... have to say wow... amazing presentation and drinks! The best what you can get in London! Thank you all we'll be back very soon!

Really enjoyed drinks here. Classy, modern, cool décor, great drinks. Excellent service. Great before or after theatre.

Love this bar, you can enjoy it anytime of the day, morning coffee,lunchtime snack, afternoon tea, early evening cocktails or nightcap. Everything they serve is high quality, the staff are very professional and it is great for people watching.

I have been coming for cocktails to the very glamorous One Aldwych Lobby Bar for more years than I care to admit. I re-visited after an absence and found the cocktails just as energetically shaken as ever. The Lavender Cloud has been a signature cocktail in the place for years and remains excellent. I was on my own on this occasion and they could not have been more welcoming.

We popped in for a drink after watching " Mama Mia" as it was very handily placed.The cocktails were amazing, I had a gin one that had dry ice that looked fabulous, and tasted very nice too. The Lobby bar is beautifully decorated and a great place to have a drink and meet with friends.It gives the Artesian @ The Langham a run for its money !

We were in the area meeting a friend that was in London and decided to have a drink at the Lobby Bar of the One Aldwych hotel.The place was buzzing as it was in the afternoon, so there was an overlap between afternoon tea and evening drinks customers.The staff were really nice, managed to get us a nice table and gave us some advice on the cocktails.As it was Christmas time, we tried the special seasonal cocktails which were excellent and obviously, very Christmas-y! We were then approached by Pedro, the Bar Manager who was extremely nice. We had a chat about drinks in general and he mentioned us the Old Fashioned (called the One Fashioned in honor to the Hotel).I am not a big enthusiast of strong drinks like the old fashioned, but Pedro explained that there were various takes on the original recipe and he would make it to my liking.Pedro showed that he knew what he was doing, so I could not resist the offer and went for a rum-based One Fashioned.The "performance" whilst preparing the drink was very interesting as it was prepared in front of us. Pedro talked us through the whole process, explaining certain aspects of the drink which I really appreciated and showed attention to detail and care for his trade.The One Fashioned was outstanding! Really smooth but still retaining that punch that an Old Fashioned has. I will certainly be coming back to try out the Tequila-based as I am sure it will be amazing.Once home, I was curious to know a little more about Pedro so I google him and was surprised to see that he was the winner of The Galvin Cup and The UK's Bartenders Guild National Champion!What an honor to have been served by such a professional in the industry!

A good cocktail in a lovely location with decent service - but not the best in Covent Garden and far more expensive!

This hotel is wedge "flat iron" shape but the space has been well utilised to make a modern, open airy bar with great service and a good selection of drinks. Ideal location for meetings or to pop to a show or wander around Covent Garden

Having been to the opening of the hotel back in the late 90's it was a long awaited but very welcome return. The staff are very friendly and professional and even bought us a small birthday cake (we had mentioned only in passing that we were celebrating) Great touch, thank you. The wine list is very good and nibbles enough o keep the hunger at bay prior to dining .... if you ar win the area definitely drop in ......

The bar is really nice; comfortable seating, good service; on the mid-range to pricey side. On the weekends it's a total scene--have scene a celebrity or two in there.

Lovely place to have drinks with friends or clients, it's certainly not cheap and a cocktail will cost almost as much as a main course upstairs in the restaurant! But, they put a lot of effort into the appearance and flair of the drinks, and you get olives and nuts which is a bonus!

A wonderful first experience at this first class venue.The servers knowledge of drinks was amazing!
