Don’t be fooled by the dog friendly sign outside! They are dog tolerable at best! We walked in and were instantly met with a blonde waitress that had an attitude problem, one of our dogs was excited to see her and she holds her hands up and sternly says NO! This dog was under harness control and was nowhere near her, we asked for a dog bowl for our 2 dogs and was declined and told by the same moody waitress that she would put a bowl of water near the entrance of the pub for them? Like what? What’s so hard about letting them having a drink under the table like EVERY other pub in the country does, we were so put we drank our drinks and order a quick bite just to leave ASAP! Management need to sort her out and themselves out and be more dog friendly like your sign says outside. To also mention we had the crispy chicken bites and the duck salad and they felt extremely cheaply made and tasteless… avoid this place at all costs it’s not worth it.

What an excellent place this is! A couple of delicious Wye valley beers and some lovely Savignon Blanc were suitable for a delicious Sunday lunch. The starters were excellent. After a couple of pardon peppers, the home cured gravadlax, succulent scallops, super sesame prawn toast and a lovely stuffed mushroom were great introductions to the skills of the chef. We then enjoyed beautifully rare striploin of beef, lovely Gloucestershire shoulder of pork, and a skilfully cooked ribeye steak with simple but well cooked vegetables. The honey roasted parsnips were a great success. We managed to squeeze in a fruit crumble with home-made custard, a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, a gin and tonic sorbet and pineapple tart tatin with coconut ice cream. All of these dishes were beautifully cooked and tasted superb. The chef is clearly very talented. Service was very efficient but warm and took care of all our needs - the staff were a credit to the management and their training.

Stayed here for two nights with our dogs. The dogs could not have been made more welcome, fussed over, provided with welcome packs, towels and beds. The ground floor room in The Cottage is perfect if you have a dog. There was a roomy cupboard, TV, radio, desk, iron, hair dryer, tea & coffee & water replenished daily, and a welcome hamper. Breakfast was included and there was a good choice and it was delicious and set you up for the day! Evening meals were equally delicious. There are dog treats and poo bags in the bar area and just off the bar is a residents' lounge with newspapers, hot drinks, walking routes and leaflets of what to do in the area. We took a lovely walk over to Daylesford Organic via Saint Nicholas Church and found a stream for the dogs to have a cooling swim. We had great weather so could enjoy a local Henbrooks lager in the pub's pretty garden complete with a little stream. Upper Oddington is picture perfect and there is lots to do nearby. Locals are lucky to have such a great pub on their doorstep. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we hope to visit again.

Good meal, awful room - pretty much uninhabitable. We had two great dinners in the restaurant, but our stay was ruined by a bedroom so bad that we left a day early. We stayed in room 6, a dog friendly room in the cottage annex. On the first night, we struggled to sleep, due to high humidity in the room - you felt a wall of air thick with moisture just walking in. Ventilation in the shower room was ineffective. Then on the second night, people moved into the room above. They weren’t being loud themselves at all, but their floor was so creaky that we were woken repeatedly when they moved; and we could very clearly hear their voices through our ceiling, even though they just seemed to be talking normally. We barely slept at all on the second night. A dirty carpet and a green LED that kept the room lit all night were further annoyances. We decided to leave in the morning, a day earlier than planned, despite having prepaid, and as we cleared the room saw a likely indicator of the moisture being a serious problem - damp and mould patches at floor level, out of normal view behind a chair and a table. The window heavy with condensation was another sign. I told the man who appeared to be the owner about it as we left, explaining why we were leaving a day early. He said he would look into it, but didn’t seem at all surprised. That mould had clearly been there for some time, and it isn’t realistic that they didn’t know about it. They should not be taking guests at all to the room we were in. I wonder if it may even be a health risk for some. EDIT: I see the owner has replied. The reply does not make sense to me. - The heating was in fact completely off throughout the night. How would the owner know when the heating was on, to make the statement that he has? Housekeeping didn't come in during our stay. - Dry heating from a towel rail or radiator could not cause high humidity in any event, unless there was already a lot of moisture present in the room. - That's the significance of the mould - it's an indicator that there was already a lot of moisture around, and you can see from the pictures that there had been for some time. Mould like that does not form overnight. If the owner has responded by just removing the mould after the event, then he may well have missed the root cause. The amount of condensation that's shown in the picture is not at all normal. - The only opening windows in the room were out on to the car park at ground floor level. It would be obviously unsafe for a guest to leave them open during the day when out. We did have them open when we could and when we were in (and we had to still consider the noise from the kitchen fan immediately opposite and the car park right outside the room), but with poor airflow through the room, the benefit was limited. Again - how would the owner know when the windows were open? I doubt he was walking around outside the rooms through the night, checking which windows were open and closed. Seeing the reply reassures me that it was the right decision to leave. Blaming the guest, no mention of the noise issues (noisy floorboards were not going to be fixed in a day), and missing the underlying point does not inspire confidence. The fundamental issue was that the airflow in the room was extremely poor. We couldn't afford a third straight night of little sleep.

Trying to organise a big Christmas family lunch (15+) is not easy, but Warren and the team made it a breeze. I had called round many pubs in the area to try and get this event sorted - the horse and groom was the only pub which were flexible and accommodating. On the day the food was a hit, and the service allowed us to focus on catching up rather than sorting out logistics. The team had decked out the table with Christmas decorations and crackers (free of charge) and went beyond the call of duty to make an enjoyable day. Warren, a huge thank you to you and the team. You helped create a memorable Christmas experience.

6 of us walked to the Horse and Groom to have Sunday lunch. It was buzzing with life. We had a quieter table at the far end of the pub and had a delicious meal (par better priced than many of the gastro pubs in the neighbouring area). three of us had the roast lunch option - generous portions, with lots of veg and all delicious; 3 of us had 2 starters - ranging from gyoza to courgette carpaccio - good portion sizes and equally delicious. We would have given our review 5 stars had it not been for the background music. If a pub's restaurant is full, you don't need piped music: it is only distracting for those of us wanting to talk. But the very friendly restaurant offered to turn the music down, which was great (and much appreciated).

We popped in for lunch after visiting Stow, the pub/restaurant is an airy well illuminated place while keeping the cost charm of a 16th century Village Inn. The menu is well thought out with plenty of variance, all clearly marked for allergens and there’s an excellent choice of craft ales. The Inn is spotlessly clean throughout, the polished silverware which makes a nice change from other places which tend to have watermarks from dishwashers, it’s the attention to detail that makes The Horse & Groom stand out for quality and an attention to detail. There’s plenty of room between tables too so there’s no fighting for elbow room. The loos are very clean and presentable and accessible rather than having to wade through diners to find them. There’s also a small shop area selling local produce which is a nice touch. It’s dog friendly for those pooch lovers and a large car park to the rear makes parking easy. All in, this was one of our best dining experiences in a long time.

Has the chef changed? Portion sizes were pitiful. I am a tiny size 6 woman, and I left hungry - even after having to have pudding. The beef was really lovely quality for the Sunday roast, yorkies were great, everything was cooked perfectly, there just wasn’t enough of it. Half a parsnip, some green beans, and some puréed carrot. The cauliflower cheese was served in a tiny little oven dish, one between two. It used to be one each. We had one spoonful of cauliflower each. The Sunday menu was two different beef options (one portion was £30!), a vegetarian pie (which was described as a Wellington, it was not a Wellington), or pork, or fish.

My bum hadn't even hit the chair and he asked if we'd like water or drinks! Lovely service! We had croquettes to start, delish. Crispy, fresh and packed with ham. Then I ordered the ham hock but with salad. This was no issue and a large, fresh, dressed salad came with the ham. Ham fell off the bone. Wonderful, tasty. Other dish was fish and chips. Fresh, light batter with tasty crispy chips. Plentiful. I couldn't finish the ham! Dessert looked tasty but we were full. 100% recommend this gem. Don't drive by without stopping for lunch.

The food my wife and I had was overpriced and only of average quality. The fish pie was small and bland together with a small serving steamed vegetables, my wifes fish and chips were overcooked. I had an apple tart tatin desert which cost £8.50...

Lovely building and atmosphere, excellent service but the food was poor. Starters were okay but nothing special. The main course of fish pie was poor. Tasteless fish pie with a small portion of bland steamed / boiled vegetables.

We had a lovely stay in this delightful pub in the Cotswolds. The staff are very friendly and helpful , the rooms very comfortable and the food excellent . We also had our dog with us and she was also made very welcome.

We decided to take a detour between London and Birmingham to visit this place after hearing some great revues. We weren’t disappointed. This is a lovely place, immaculate throughout with very warm and welcoming owners and staff. The menu is all about fresh local produce...

Great pub in a cosy Cotswolds pub. The devilled kidneys as a starter were deeply flavoured. The T bone steak was perfectly cooked — rare and tender. We threw dietary caution to the wind and finn no sites with a delicious tarte tatin. Reasonable prices...

Lovely place and the staff were very nice, but the food was decidedly average. Maybe they were just having an off night as they get lots of good reviews. Can't really say any more than that. Won't be going back

Amazing Sunday lunch. Food was great and excellent service! The decor in the pub is much better than the photos. I will be back!

We enjoyed a long lunch with some old friends in this picturesque old Cotswolds Inn. I would rate the food as upper level pub food, nothing spectacular but perfectly acceptable fare. My wife and I enjoyed the tarte tatin dessert. Cost was around £39 for 2 courses with a drink and coffee.

We went here for an evening meal. It was a lovely setting and the staff were very friendly if not a little forgetful. The food was a little unexceptional however. The soup was quite cold, and the mains lacked the finish you would expect to accompany the price. A little pricey for what is fairly ordinary pub food.Overall a nice enough experience but there are better in the area.

We had an Excellent Sunday Lunch at The Horse and Groom. The pork, beef and chicken were all Ivey. Great vegetables, perfectly cooked. Service was fabulous, nothing was too much trouble. Hand sanitiser on the tables were an added bonus. Asp loved having linen napkins Tables were also nicely spaced and it was spotlessly clean, not easy for such an old building

My husband I have been coming to the Cotswolds every summer traveling from Arizona to Stow on the Wold since 2015. In 2021 for the first time we decided to stay in a town which is 5 minute drive from Stow. We have now became familiar with the local Gastro Pub “The Horse and Groom” in Upper Oddington. It is old world in decor with a new world menu serving their take on all your favorite dishes. Everything we ate during our many visits to the restaurant came out perfect. All of the staff work as a team, they are all very friendly and extremely helpful to make sure you have a memorable meal, especially Coralee who we spent much time talking too. We look forward to dining again next summer when we arrive for our extended holiday.

Speechless. Food and service was amazing. Me and my friends were passing by and were feeling like a having a bite to eat, as we made our way into the pub we were welcomed by the lovely staff and they showed us to a table. The food was good priced for its size and it was well presented. If you ever stop by here you will know this isn't ordinary "pub food". The staff are very nice also

Excellent restaurant in a very beautiful hotel where I celebrated my birthday with a a small group of friends. Last year I also enjoyed an evening meal here with my partner. Ambience, service and food were perfect. Apéritifs in the lounge, well-spaced tables in the restaurant, excellent, polite and friendly staff, delicious food and lovely surroundings. By far the best restaurant I have been to in years.

We attended a Wedding at Fosse Manor (in their Hyde Barn). The wedding catering was excellent. It is confusing to read the other reviews here as there was no actual restaurant on site that we could see - just the wedding banquet room and adjoining bar. Breakfast however was not good. Pre-cooked under 3 heat lamps and self-service. The tea was very weak even after adding more tea-bags! The breakfast room was styled like a hostel with long trestle tables for lots of guests to sit together, and was extremely noisy. After a night spent in the terrible accommodation here (for which we have written a separate review) we did not enjoy this experience at all. A shame, as the Wedding catering itself was very well done and managed.

What a find, a very quintessential English country pub serving local beers as well as a very stocked back shelf and wine cellar. The welcome is warm and very friendly from the staff and locals alike. Not once did we finish our meals and head home, as we started conversations with the locals and fellow guests, that meant for a very social atmosphere. There is a good lunch menu and a very comprehensive evening menu. I promise you will want to come back to try "something else" off the menu, I know we did and we soon realised that we had to pick either starters & main or main & desert due to the larger portions you receive.

Lovely welcome , great service . I definitely recommend the Turkish eggs from the breakfast menu. An unusual dish of yoghurt poached eggs and sourdough toast with a spicy twist , delicious

A very old fashioned type of tea room. You think you're going into a book shop at first, then go into the main tea room. It all exudes history and quality. Very nice for afternoon tea, the cakes are wonderful and all made on the premises, the brunch was great too. Can't really fault it. Service was quick despite it being very busy. Highly recommended, well worth a visit
