A very old fashioned type of tea room. You think you're going into a book shop at first, then go into the main tea room. It all exudes history and quality. Very nice for afternoon tea, the cakes are wonderful and all made on the premises, the brunch was great too. Can't really fault it. Service was quick despite it being very busy. Highly recommended, well worth a visit

I went with my mother for a beverage break and it was really nice, there was a really calm atmosphere and it all felt very old-fashioned! Also the tea for one is so classic yet so perfect! Yet to try the food <3

We were really looking forward to a visit to the Team House and the tea and cake. However, the service was neither particularly friendly nor did the scones and cakes taste particularly delicious. Other cafes can do that better. And the atmosphere wasn't particularly inviting either. You felt more like you were on a "siding" and not only was the floor dirty, but also the dishes, including the teapot. So the enjoyment was spoiled from the start.

My partner and I had cream tea here having thoroughly enjoyed our cream tea here last year. It was the best in Cornwall last year and it is the best this year too. I noted that there are some recent reviews that are negative in regards to service and customers not being allowed to sit where they would’ve liked to have sat. I can say that we experienced excellent service and that we also overheard an instance where a customer requested to sit in the window having been directed towards a different table and the waitress was happy for them to sit elsewhere. Of course this does not mean that the reviews left previously were not valid but in the interests of leaving a fair and balanced review list for potential customers I thought that it was important to share what we found to be a wonderful experience.

After six years in Australia, my husband and I were looking forward to return to Charlottes Tea House. Despite the bustling atmosphere, with one young server expertly managing the flow of orders, our visit took an unexpected turn. Opting for a gluten-free Cornish Ploughman's, I found myself facing a rather disheartening encounter with one of the older kitchen staff. The kitchen assistance/cook came from the kitchen with the docket in her hand,glanced at the docket and grunted at me "What can't you eat?" Naturally, I replied, "Wheat." Her response? Another dismissive grunt followed by, "Can you eat coleslaw?" To which I affirmed, "As long as it's wheat-free." With an eye-roll, she trotted off without a word. When my meal arrived, without coleslaw, it became apparent that confusion had prevailed in the kitchen leaving her stumped, leaving my plate looking as though the food had been haphazardly thrown together. No explanation or any attempt rectify the meal only compounded the disappointment. It's disheartening to encounter such lapses, especially for someone like myself, whose gluten intolerance isn't a matter of choice but a dietary necessity also eating out is now a treat due to the cost of living. While the service from the delightful young server was exceptional, the discourtesy displayed by the older kitchen staff member cast a shadow over our visit. It's concerning when those responsible for food preparation lack essential knowledge about dietary requirements. In the end, it's these small yet significant details that can leave a lasting impact and overshadow an otherwise pleasant experience.

Terrible experience, waitress was clearly new or stressed, snapped at my Husband and told him to wait in the hall, we asked for the window seat to be snapped at No! then a gesture saying there's the specials. We had our grandaugter with us and decided it was not a good atmosphere for her, so left. We went to the Museum cafe and received excellent service. This waitress needs to have some training in the importance of customers and how to treat them visited today Sat 13th Apr.

Brilliant experience today on such a rainy afternoon in Truro! Well worth the visit! Brilliant Tea room, freshly baked scones and the jam wasn’t too bad either ;)

After researching where to go to take my mum, for an overdue Mother’s Day afternoon tea, and this place was perfect, if we could give it more stars we would do, if you want an experience thats away from every other standard coffee house that is on every street corner, then this place is it, for £20.00 we received our beautiful sandwich, 2 scones, clotted cream, 3 cakes and an amazing pot of tea with extra hot water, so we had 5 top ups each. The staff are fantastic and my mum loved the fact it took her back to the days when her mum used to treat her as a child for tea and cake.

Just a lovely place to sit, relax and eat lemon meringue! There are other things on the menu of course... The other dishes looked and smelled amazing as they passed us by. Coffee is excellent, tea doubly so. Totally worth a visit if you like a peaceful break from the hustle of the town center... Which is nice too!

Disappointed. I went in here for afternoon tea. Greetings by a young land. We are if we could sit in the window area, told No, we were only 2, which I would have understood if the were busy, but out of a dozen plus tables only two were being used. We were placed next to a couple eating their lunch, but almost right next to them, so they moved their table to give us a little room. Waited a while for the young lady to come back to tack order (just stood in the kitchen). Asked if they had some or low-fat milk as I could not stand tea with full, told no, so didn't stay, went to cornish bakery across the road much nicer. But I am sue Charlotte's is nice, when they are no busy with 6 customers

Friendly staff who were welcoming, we had the high tea - flavour was there, but a little disappointed with the quantity (half a sandwich each - which we paid extra for as it was classed as premium), small selection of sweets given it was for 2. Tea room was looking rather tired. In comparison to other places, we felt it was lacking, and expensive for what it was compared to other's we have seen, which had more sandwiches, more scones etc for less.

Quaint teahouse located in the centre of the street. Nice view overlooking the street. Good coffee served. Food was average but overall nice.

Best place to chill and enjoy your tea in Truro, very cozy atmosphere and friendly service

What can I say?! Absolutely dreadful customer service as a local I’ve always liked this tearoom and thought we’d introduce our granddaughter to it. I specifically checked the opening times on the website and seeing as it was supposedly open until 4.00pm we popped in at just gone 3.00pm today. We were greeted on arrival by being told the kitchen had just closed so they were doing just drinks which was fine. On sitting down we were then told that the place shut at 3.30pm! We queried this as it said 4.00pm on the website to which the response was they were not busy enough in January to pay the staff to stay open! Then we asked for two cappuccinos and an iced coffee for our granddaughter and the waitress said that was a problem as she had no ice! We then said ok make it three cappuccinos and she said that was a problem as she only had enough coffee for two and she didn’t want to open a new bag of coffee! Absolutely ridiculous, so with that we left! With that attitude you’re lucky you’re still open at all and we certainly won’t be going back again! We quite easily found another place that actually wanted our custom!

Lovely atmosphere and service, but the food is just passable. Very disappointing cheese on the ploughmans and the bread was not particularly fresh. Missing that extra 10% to make it really worth it!

This year's Christmas Cake is yummy, as is the soup.

Stopped in just for a sandwich takeaway. Got the homemade coronation chicken. A bit disappointed. There was just too much mayonnaise in the recipe. Lacked a good curry bite as well.

Arrived 325pm left 355pm, staff cleaning up around us, talking about vacuuming, closing windows, cashing up, we rushed our food and left, never felt so uncomfortable. Just an observation, lady with short hair and jeans needs to learn how to clear tables with a tray, fingers in glasses cheapens your product and makes it look like a seedy bar!! She was also the lady who gave us a “ thank god for that” look when we left. Won’t be back and will not recommend !!

We (wife and two daughters) probably went a bit too late as many of the snacks had been sold and you could see the staff were starting to look tired. Drinks and snacks that we did order were fine, and the seating was comfy. I would like to try again to see them on a good day (NB. Feb 22 review).

You may wait a while for a table, but it is worth it. The food is always delicious and they have an extensive list of different teas and coffee. Never disappointed by the freshly baked cakes (recommend the chocolate fudge cake).

We got the High Afternoon Tea, a selection of sandwiches, Eggs Royale and the tomato soup. The kids really enjoyed their food and we did too.- 10/10. The service was spot on and we loved the traditional feel of the place.

Quite simply a fantastic tea room, one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Staff were very friendly and the actual tea room is as traditional as it gets in this day and age. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced and it was a real delight to be served proper tea in a proper China teacup and saucer. Will definitely be visiting again when I am next in Truro.

Lovely unique place takes you back in time. Very varied menu with great food and good service. Well worth a visit. Once you have been you will definitely want to go back again.

We found this by accident. Lovely tea, scones and sandwich. Good old fashioned service and relaxing. The cakes looked amazing. Would strongly recommend.

We love this tea room. We found in abiut 5 years ago when walking around Truro and ever since we have always come back to have their sandwiches, cakes and cream teas.

We visited here on Thursday and, wow. What a place. We were greeted by very polite staff and were guided to our table in the most beautiful room I've ever eaten in. The staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. We were made to feel so welcome. I would definitely recommend paying a visit here and we will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff.

Took friends who were on holiday very disappointed the male member of staff was extremely rude and obviously wanted all clientele out asap (we arrived at approx 3.30 for drinks and cake ) then proceeded to clear table before we had finished and then asked for payment -presumed in a ‘hurry’ to leave - we won’t return such a shame that staff spoilt the visit as cake was good

Terrible service waited over half an hour for a sandwich then ordered a cake that they forgot to serve - expensive and poor service - we also met another couple on our way out that were also not happy with the cost and service - your days are numbered guys

Oh dear, what's happened to Charlotte's? Grumpy waiter with no manner. Our drinks didn't arrive. Our plates were just plonked down onto the table. The scrambled egg was rubbery and the toast had been spread with margarine. The dinning room smelled fusty. Dismal.

Always pop in here when I'm in Truro. Lovely old English surroundings, proper tea in China cups and great food!

A very busy place. Food was excellent I had the salmon and avocado sandwich on seeded bread with a pot of green tea. Indulged in a scone, cream and jam for afters. Service was a little slow due to the place being full, the staff were friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Will definitely make a return visit.

A lovely place for brunch in the centre of Truro!

Service was fairly slow but we were warned that it would be due to large group in adjoining room. Food was nice but must admit the Hogarty Pie was an extremely small portion. Shame, as it was delicious but a large side salad was served with it which was nice. Venue nice and waiters were helpful.

Waiter very rude , food no better than an ordinary cafe . Not clean . Basil Faulty comes to mind . Not comfortable or welcoming . This place used to be a treat but after witnessing staff disputes with the boss , won't be going back again .

Buggy service. They took the order from the couple who came in after us. Took ours only when reminded, then brought us the other couple's drinks by mistake. Our drinks eventually arrived but no cream tea (the other couple were eating theirs...) Asking, now for the third time we, got that sorted out and the comment "Sorry you had to wait". Food and location great, service below average.

This was the best food I have had in a very long time!! We frequent different places for lunch and breakfast and I can firmly say this place is now at the top of my list! The coffee was delicious, as was the hot chocolate! I had beef stew which was MAGICAL, perfectly seasoned and very filling! The vibes of the place were immaculate, very chilled energy and lovely decor! The staff were really helpful and pleasant and made the experience even better! Highly recommend and will be back again! Very wide menu plus a specials menu. Lovely views out on to the cobbled streets in Central Truro. Good staff and excellent service. Will definitely eat there again

Fantastic hidden gem with an antique book store near by.

Cute place and beautiful building full of character. We had high tea which was much more filling than it looked. There was a younger lad working who was very polite and welcoming and one older guy who was slightly miserable which was a bit suprising at sometimes but all in all a nice place to visit

Charlotte's tea house is a must if you ever are in Cornwall. The cream teas, cakes especially the chocolate cake with clotted cream and tea were fantastic. A delightful tea house and well worth the visit.

We had a afternoon high tea which was so good. Nice view.

Sat in the shade in the garden on an extremely hot day and the surroundings were charming. Good friendly service and lunch with a couple of glasses of chilled white wine was excellent. We had done no research so no expectations set - coronation chicken on sourdough bread was delicious and the sausage roll extremely tasty all served with fabulous quality salad. Great job guys!

My first time in Charlottes. I went with a group of people from Penryn Camera Club and the food, staff, building and cleanliness were all excellent. Wait times were acceptable and the staff regularly checked we had all we wanted. Waitress even chased down an escapee pickled onion! Pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. I will be going back again regularly - cannot praise higher than that.

Had tea and cake this afternoon, the cake was delicious. The lady that served us was fantastic, polite and dressed beautifully. Will definitely be visiting again

On our second visit to Truro, we once again visited Charlotte's Tea Room. The Tea Rooms are steeped in history and have a very quaint interior. The beverages and food are amazing. On this second visit, we once again were looked after by the amazing staff. Unfortunately, we then encountered the Manager . We asked if we could take away our scone, clotted cream and strawberry jam, only to be told we could not have this food packaged to take away, but could be sold the exact same food at an extra cost by the Manager. We declined his generous offer to re-purchase the food we already had in front of us. After we had finished our meal we asked for the bill and started to put on our coats. The bill and the cash payment was collected by the Manager who decided that I was going to leave a tip. This was quite a remarkable piece of customer service as I had not offered a tip and was waiting for my change. In conclusion the female waitresses were amazing but the male Manager could possibly take some lessons in managerial manners.

Cosy tea room with good service and food

My husband and I went in there for lunch. Got served quickly. Got our drinks then ordered our food. It was really good. We then wanted a dessert. The waitress came and took our dirty dishes, but never came back to see if we would like anything else. We got up and paid and told the waitress that we did want something else, but could not wait as they were getting busy. I am in the food traid myself, but as I am clearing tables I always ask if that person or person would like anything else.

Fantastic choice and great quality and value. A true gem!!

Waited behind the velvet rope to be admitted, during which time the staff and the man in charge studiously avoided any kind of acknowledgement or eye contact. Finally we were pointed towards our table and handed a couple of menus to peruse. After some time the chap arrived to take our order (oblivious to the fact that a couple who arrived after us were already well on with their lunch) in his best Basil Fawlty-esque exasperated frustrated mode. Eventually our food arrived, seemingly not served to us but to two invisible guests at the far end of our table. As toasted cheese and onion sandwiches go they were OK, but in truth I've had better as a pub lunch - not bad but overpriced for what they are. Won't be on my list of places to revisit!

Lovely selection of sandwiches and jacket potatoes. High tea is fab with great views over Truro. Very quaint and traditional. Excellent range of drinks including teas and fruit teas
