The best restaurants serving British food in England

Son had his wedding blessing here, together with bridal breakfast, evening reception and breakfast following day (hired several of the cottages as well as rooms in the main hotel - they couldn't be faulted.) Food was exceptional, so full from the breakfast ( huge home made burgers, chicken breast and BBQ with sides that beat anything I'd had in my previous 60 years), bars in events venue and main hotel, care from staff couldn't be faulted. With a walk through the gardens to the river at the end so see the broads boats go by while enjoying the sun, prior to the evening events. Guests enjoyed the more lively evening when the sound system was cranked up, before those who had to make their way to other places started leaving. Following morning breakfast was more than ample to get through to evening, a buffet bar plus cooked to order menus, full English was good, or a mountain of scrambled egg on toast with a thick large sliver of salmon as the roof. I have travelled throughout the UK and eaten Full English Breakfasts in many hotels,pubs and restaurants. The one I had at Classic Cafe yesterday was the tastiest, hottest I have ever had. Cooked to perfection. The service, was as always, great. On my list for a revisit. Close to Doncaster, Bawtry and the A1M. Give it a try, you won't regret it. Love popping to Shaftesbury plenty of lovely shops we started feeling hungry so popped in to the cafe met with a smile, we found Shaftesbury a lovely friendly place i ordered beans on toast and a fry up for me 2 coffees grate price, the fry up was cooked to perfection the extra black budding was warmed through nicely and tasted amazing, on asking the lady cooking she very kindly gave me the name and three bits of pudding in a box i was really chuffed, but sadly i would say guys be car full the floor is very slippery i had walking shoes on and a stick as my legs aren't good but over all a exalent experience thank you x

Spent a wonderful evening with friends at the Rose and Crown and from start to finish we couldn’t fault a single thing and enjoyed a warm welcome and exemplary service. The food was truly delicious, presented beautifully and hot! I had the lemon and black pepper chicken which was cooked to order and was worth the wait, you are advised about the cook time before you order so no complaints. Would not hesitate to return and as I’m reasonably local I envisage returning with other friends and family for a super supper in the near future! Will be trying the carvery next! Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

What a fantastic little tea shop and very interesting to find out about their charity work. They catered extremely well for allergies and there was even a choice of deserts. This staff were friendly and kind and helpful with making choices.

A very warm welcome for us last night (3/9/24) with help for my daughter who uses a wheelchair, the lady had no issues with putting a ramp out for her. Our two dogs were also welcomed and they slept (mostly) well under the table. The food was really good quality and the rump steak was excellent, well seasoned and a great cut of meat. Friendly atmosphere with lots of dog owners enjoying themselves, The staff were excellent as well and nothing was too much trouble. Well worth a visit in my opinion

The Bicycle is consistently fabulous in every way. Menu uses very fresh seasonal food, presented beautifully and tasting top notch. The wine menu is carefully curated and Brian will explain the characteristics of a good wine to pair with our food choice. The welcome from Kerry, Brian and their staff is always genuine and warm. Restaurant atmosphere is very customer-focused and comfortable. I highly recommend The Bicycle for high quality, variety and everything I hope a good restaurant experience would be. Don't forget to book a taxi to get home .... then simply relax and enjoy.

The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were amazing. Definitely will go again and bring other people along, and the service was incredible.

We were staying in wrentham for the weekend and called in for a pint on the Friday and saw that Saturday was a tapas evening. So we booked a table for Saturday. Both the food and service were excellent. We would definitely visit again when next visiting the area.

Early evening meal with 4 friends . We opted for the 2 courses for £10 deal! We tried the 3 options available and each were lovely. Well cooked and presented. Huge choice of dessert - all delicious. Service was friendly and warm - even though as the only person working, she had a lot on her plate! With drinks - it cost £16 per person. The main menu was also good value. A couple of us would have preferred to see a couple of salad option on the menu so that’s what would have made it 5* However absolutely worth a visit.

Myself and my other half decided to pop out for a meal, we had been recommended The Angel by family members, we thought we'd try it for ourselves! I called 18:00 this evening asking for an 18:30 or 19:00 book in for table for two (short notice I know) but what a delight!!! We got a table booked for 18:30! The food, service and staff was amazing, me and my other half have not dined in a place like this for years I'd say! I've attached a few photos of our meals they we're phenomenal! Absolutely sublime... I'm not one to leave reviews but this place deserves it!!! Their hospitality was second to none! If you're looking for a nice place for a spot of lunch or Sunday lunch whatever tickles your pickle this is the place for you! Brilliant place to dine/drink! Cheers🍻

We've visited the Boars Head a few times recently and it has been consistently excellent. Today we both had the beef bourguignon, it was delicious. A generous portion of beautifully tender beef with mash made for a great meal, dessert was an impossibility on this occasion. The welcome and service has been impeccable on every visit as well The management are clearly working hard to achieve and maintain a high standard in every aspect of what they do. We ate mid-afternoon today (Saturday) without booking but I'd suggest that booking is essential for lunch and evening meals at the weekends. We have also had the Sunday lunch on a couple of occasions and that has been to the same standard.
