Been coming to the GL for last 8 years whilst holidaying. Its a lovely, local pub with great views. Been recently taken over, bit smarter now, good beers and bar offering and it is worth a visit. BUT! The food menu is simple pub grub - lasagne, ham egg & chips, bangers and mash - its tasty, but averaging £18 a meal its got to be better…. with Spoons & Beefeater do it better and cheaper….

We stayed for 3 nights over the weekend. 21 pitches on site, all with electric hookups. Nice walks around the the Lake. Food in pub was cracking. Lovely roast beef, would recommend. Now, I believe it was only taken over in May 2024, and it needs some maintenance doing. There's no lighting when walking down to the showers and toilets. So make sure you have a torch with you. Both the showers and toilets need work doing to them.

Food was not great and overpriced for what it is, the welcome was even worse, this lady did not make us feel welcome and made us feel like we ruined her day by turning up for lunch, she's clearly in the wrong role

As locals living within walking distance we won't go there again. £7.00 plus for a glass of wine is outrageous. We are not cheapskates but sometimes, more often than not, cheaper wines are better than the more expensive. There is no justification for charging that amount for a few sips of wine. This pub could really blossom, especially in the winter when the tourists have all gone if it lowered their alcohol prices. I do not know how they will survive the winter unless they're going to close down and go off to warmer climates with the money they've conned the visitors out of.

We were staying on campsite at Stithian Activity Centre SW Lakes and stumbled across The Golden Lion and so glad we did! Great location 2 minute walk from camp (they actually have their own camping too). Greeted by friendly staff and given table over looking lake and garden (most are to be fair). Menu was typical pub grub and absolutely delicious. Food was served hot and fresh with no delay. Lasagne chips and salad followed by waffle maple syrup and ice cream and not a moment of guilt as had been on the reservoir expelling lots of energy all day! Great value, friendly atmosphere and dogs made very welcome too. They even did my favourite alcohol free cider. Thank you; we will be back and totally recommend a visit 👍💥

When I looked at the menu online I thought it was a little ordinary but having visited I have to say the quality of everything from starters to sweet was excellent. All home cooked and 9/10, the beef pie was to die for, the pork belly soft and full of flavour, and a rich and soft lasagne. Normally I'm very wary of sweets because 95% of the time their shop bought but not in this case, the eton mess you could see was made on site and very tasty, the two treacle sponge pudding just like me mum made and the profiteroles very good. The service was friendly and attentive without overpowering so all in all a very reasonable and very enjoyable evening.

Stopped here for an evening meal, sadly there was limited drafts on so couldnt get a pint of cider on draft. Service was very slow, there was just one gent and woman maning tables, taking orders, manning the bar, serving the food and collecting the plates. So meant we were often sat waiting. I believe the pub had recently been taken over and renovations had been under way so they were operating a small condensed menu, which wasn't advised to us when we booked our table, however the food was great and I suspect when all this is ironed out it's going to be a great place to eat and drink as they have a fab beer garden and a good chef in the kitchen!

First time being here past a good few times, recently taking over and reopened last month, we finished our walk around the lake and fancied a cold drink and a meal , had to wait as kitchen wasn't open yet so had snacks we had the spicy peanuts which were fantastic not too spicy little kick and some crisps, staff were spot on very helpful and friendly not a full menu right now but still about 8/9 main meals to choose from I had the pork WOW it was amazing everything was perfect and hot .We were going to have puddings but had two in the end to share great prices and again great choices and a good size. Will definitely be back very soon as locals.

Beautiful countryside pub by a small road near Stithians reservoir and lakeake which you can see from the restaurant. We could park easily in the car park and walk to the main entrance It is a great atmosphere and welcome. We ordered the drinks and sat by a big table. The order took a while as everyone arrived at the same time but they were very well organised and we even had to wait, but we felt comfortable and it was worth it. When the food arrived we were surprised for the beauty of the plates and the yummy food. We really enjoyed having dinner here and sharing some time talking with the waitress as he was very gentle and polite. The pub has a very nice decoration, it is clean and they play a nice music also. Very recommended.

Absolutely delicious food. Visited several times during our holiday as we had perfect meals every time. The beef was cooked beautifully, I haven't had it quite like that before, so tender and it just fell apart. I think between us we tried most of the menu (including dessert) and we were all so impressed with the quality. The staff have been lovely and provided excellent service every time. Really great to see that it's back open and if this was their initial menu, I'm looking forward to seeing what's next for them. The next time we're visiting Cornwall, we'll definitely be back!

Firstly, we were warmly welcomed by the owner who is extremely friendly and was happy to see us. We were seated with our 2 dogs and 2 bowls of water were immediately given to them, a nice touch. We all ordered the full English and at £10 a pop, was extremely good value as the breakfast is huge and absolutely value for money. I ordered a coffee with mine and the coffee here would put some of the High St coffee shops to shame. We can't fault the food or the service and the warm welcome and i can see us returning to this pub time and again. Thank you

1/10/2023 Booked in for a roast dinner 2 x large for 2 adults , ordered a pint of Guiness sat down waited 40 mins for meal to arrive , eventually the meal came out on the small side no bigger than a childs portion. Tucked into first mouthful and was cold not even luke warm as was the rest of the meal . I spoke to waiter politely and raised my concerns ststing the meal was cold , he told the owner who came over irate with us thinking we spoke out of turn , we simply highlighted the issues . She didnt even tried to put the situation right . She certainly shouldn't be in the hospitality sector if thats her attitude towards her customers . Where to start. When you tell people your having your wedding reception at a pub, we got some mixed looks. But the Golden Lion in Stithians isn't 'just a pub.' Nestled into some beautifully kept tiered gardens, decorated with bunting and lights, and overlooking Stithians Lake, it is the perfect setting for a celebration and scenery for some incredible photos day and night. The interior has a quaint blend of cosy, cottage-esqe warmth with the fireplace and stone walls leading to a modern, fresh dinning area, well lit by the incredible panoramic view across the gardens and lake (a stunning backdrop to our bride and groom table). The food was all delicious, many of our guests saying it was the best nut roast they'd ever had. The golden lion even have their own veg patch, taking locally sourced to another level. Emma even grew us some pumpkins herself when she found out we were struggling to find some. An incredible surprise. We stayed the week in their adjoing cottage. To say we didn't want to leave is an understatement. Again the perfect blend of cosy cottage, but well lit (natural light), modern luxuries and a stunning fireplace for when the nights are more chilly. There is a lovely morning view from the upstairs of the sunrise over the lake. Emma and the team were fantastic both on the day and leading up to it, with Emma having to deal with all our questions, requests and changes throughtout the year. As an added bonus we had the delight of being ferried from our ceremony to reception in a 1934 BSA vintage car, owned by Dave (Emma's husband). Dave is so lovely and you can tell he is so proud of getting this fantastic car up and running, having been passed down to him from his father. It was also great to hear the history of the car and about all the little (and not so little) bits Dave has had to do to fix the car and get it into the beautiful condition its in. Thankyou again for helping us make our day even more amazing.

We visited here recently for lunch. We sat in the garden which was very pleasant with a shade. I ordered a prawn ciabatta, salad & chips which at £10.00 was good value. My friend ordered a well done steak ciabatta. However, when she started to cut it, it was apparent that it was rare inside, also it was chewy. When asked by a waitress if we were happy she showed here the steak. Her reply was ‘ I did ask for it well done’ & walked off. Later on paying we were asked again about our meals by another waitress & I explained about my friends meal once again . Her reply was ‘ well he is only an apprentice’ At no time was a replacement offered or any deduction in price , so I paid up fully even stupidly including a tip . Disappointed, especially so as my friend had recommended this place originally.

We went with the idea of having a lovely meal while on holiday. We booked a table online for 7.30pm. Not a good start to the evening, We arrived at the restaurant to find the car park full of joggers/runners who had filled the car park and were milling about the carpark. We toured around the area and not able to park, telephoned the restaurant to say we were cancelling our table explaining the situation We were told the runners would be eating in the pub but n a other toom and not till 8pm. We had booked the restaurant and said we didn't fancy sharing our meal with some sweaty individuals. We were assured they would not be in the same area. We were then told to utilise the campsite pitch. When we returned to the caroark we then found a space. We were asked for our drinks option before we sat down....a little unusual. Our meal arrived, I ordered the breaded casement, although very pleasant could have been a lot hotter I mentioned this to the proprietor At about 8pm the runners arrived following their run,, walking through the restaurant to their venue space, but the air of body odour was very unpleasant. It was very evident at our table, tucked in a corner- quite away from the bar. Although they did go into their eating area, they stood at the bar ordering drinks in their sweaty state. We decided not to have a dessert, then paid the bill and left. What a shame, probably a good place to eat normally but most certainly not on 'runners night'

We asked if we could have plain prawns on a mixed salad as one of us cannot have any oils or dressing containing oil. We also asked if the steak could be grilled so that again no oils or fats were used to cook the steak. We were initially told there would not be a problem with the prawn starter, that proved not true. We were also told the kitchen could not cook the steak without oils or fats because the griddle was already oiled. How much effort does it take to wipe the griddle or to grill a steak. We cancelled our order and went elsewhere

I wasn't going to bother with a review, but feel it has to be done. Firstly we came here 5 years ago and it's was amazing. The staff, atmosphere and the food where fabulous! Unfortunately coming back today we didn't have the same experience. We are a family of 5 and wanted to have a nice meal out as we had cooked every night of our holiday. On arrival we walked in to a very quiet restaurant/pub. We where then told to pick a table as we had booked to eat outside but it was starting to get a little chilly. We then got handed 5 menu's all of which were not what we had seen online(menu changed 4 days ago) the young lad that served us was timid and honestly out of his depth.(nothing personal) .we had to ask for kids menus as they were not given. Once we had ordered the food came promptly. My wife and I had the steak £25 each. They where awful and was told that there had been issues with the steak all day with several complaints (why still serve them)? From my point of view they had been cooked and reheated for order. I can cook a decent steak so know what to expect. I've never sent food back in my life(I'm 42) but this really did warrant me to do so. I was then offered a chicken dish which I accepted this was just as bad. I did manage to speak to someone who I believe was a manager who didn't offer anything but apologies and excuses some of which were laughable! it was just a bad cow! I mean come on show some respect! All in all the best thing was my lads burger and chips which was £8 bargain!! I leave my review as it was just poor all the way round and then to have a bill £110 and be asked which tip level we wanted to leave on the card machine. We will not be going there again for food but if you want a nice pint in a beautiful setting then it's a lovely place.

Went for a lovely Sunday Roast. Beautifully situated near a lovely lake. Lots of choices for Vegetatians and Vegans. Friendly and attentive staff. I chose the 2 x meat large roast with a side kf cauliflower cheese. Lovely mix of fresh veg. Excellent value, reasonably priced for the size of tje meal. If or when I am back in Porkellis will definitely go back for a meal and a piny or two. Dog and familtly friendly pub. Highly reccommended.

Love the new reduced choice menu. Superb quality restaurant food. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. Definitely going back for more. Chef also able to adjust to cater for dietary requirements.

Disappointing meal. Starters were small for the price and the customer service was very poor. When we ordered steaks we were told we couldn’t request how we wanted them to be cooked. When the food came out both the side veg and mash were missing, we asked if we could have them on a side plate but we were told the kitchen was now closed (despite our food having just come out) and we were not able to have any replacements. After complaining to the manager, we managed to get a portion of chips instead but no veg was available. The lamb shank which my partner ordered was incredibly salty, nearing inedible and the “sirloin” steak was grey and not medium rare how I like it and the whisky sauce lacked flavour, disappointing when both cost £25. Others in our group enjoyed the chicken dish and puddings but overall it was not a good experience. We will not be returning again.

Lakeside views and delicious food. Vegan nut roast in small and large was very well received with cauliflower cheese as an extra. Halloumi burger was great too. Cutlery arrived after all thee food had been served and it would've been better if it came before the food with the drinks. Connor, our waiter was friendly and helpful as was Kate (?) and the barman on our arrival.

Had a two night stay in our camper van and dined in at the restaurant Saturday and Sunday evening. Absolutely lovely food, great service and friendly staff. On the Sunday we took our very nervous rescue dog and sat in the garden, it started to get cold so we asked for a takeaway because our dog gets anxious and reactive around people and other dogs, so they very kindly popped us in the snug where we were on our own, able to enjoy food and a drink with Dexter the dog for the first time since we got him 2 years ago! The staff were so attentive and respected Dexter's needs... it was so lovely and I can not reccomend this place enough. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless, beautiful area for dog walks, and nice quiet pitch space. Thank you and we will be returning!
