Star Inn in The Vale of Glamorgan

Celebrated my wife's birthday this evening with daughter and son-in-law. Plenty of choice on the menu and they must have noticed that we were celebrating a birthday as my wife's dessert was presented with a candle and 'Happy Birthday' written on the plate with chocolate sauce. Top marks to the staff and the food was excellent. Look forward to our next visit.

Another memorable experience enjoying great high quality food at the Star Troes. We both selected the sirloin of beef which was superb and they offer an option on your cooking preference too which is always a winner. .For desert we shared the lemon cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding with custard which was equally as delicious 😋

Not our first visit, every vist so far has been wonderful. Food lovely no worries. Mothers day bit disappointing. Overdone Cauliflower cheese. Well burnt. Overdone carotts and parsnips burnt.. Roast potatoes under done bt think they were frozen ones. Beens and sugar snap peas undercooked. Felt a bit let down as the beef and lamb were perfect. To be honest if we had not been with the fam8ly I would have complained then and there. Also normally we would be hiv3n extra gravy but we had to ask for it and then received a paltry amount in a tiny jug. Sorry to post this as the staff and service are wonderful.

Booked and preordered a lunch for 17 people, starters & mains. Very warm welcome, great service, superb food. The chef was happy to accomodate one guest by cooking a non menu dish. Each and every dish was served piping hot and prompt. 17 very happy diners, who all agreed The Star to be one of the best venues we have visited in recent years, we meet 4/5 times a year. Thank you Team Star.

This place used to be my favourite and I was looking forward to enjoying a nice meal with drinks unfortunately the food was dripping with grease and also very bland. I won’t be visiting again, such a shame because the staff and drink selection is top quality.

Popped in for Sunday lunch and it was amazing. Food looked and tasted delicious and there was plenty of it. Couldn't fault the staff who were helpful, friendly and smiley. The log burner in the large inglenook fireplace was full of burning logs making the pub lovely and warm and cosy. Definitely recommend.

Cold food. And blamed me for not ordinating it well done

Both meals was cold. Same dish missing dishes that was with the main. It arrived as I was leaving blamed me for having cold meal said I should ask for lamb dish well done that’s why it was cold. Partner enjoyed his food it was steaming hot. Disappointed ☹️ as I eat there few times a week. Staff are great. Just not handled the situation well. I sent the food back twice. I said both times food is cold and ignored me and walked by us. I see if you complain or say anything they don’t like you don’t get great response It’s a shame as I am I regular customer and I would have liked them to have done better I mean it’s not good to serve cold food two occasions and don’t fix it. It’s an expensive dish and when your eating there three 4 times in a week would have been the decent thing to have fixed this without blaming me! I’m very sad. 😔 I originally put up a fantastic review but this evening valentines night really ruined it for us

This place is the best restaurant pub I have ever been EVER the staff are literally the nicest human beings I have ever come across!! I am autistic & dyslexic. The staff help me read the menu and turn down the music due to my autism needs they are so patient & kind. To say they r very accommodating to my fussy dieting needs is an understatement they have never once made me feel like an inconvenience or a pest. Every time I come here I’m so comfortable and at peace no pressure whatsoever literally the best people and restaurant for people with special needs like myself. This place needs some sort of award for the purest hearted humans the feed is incredible seriously talented chef Alex ( makes me what I ask for the way I like it ) and waiters Dylan and Will ( these two gentlemen have been spectacular towards me) & the amazing manager lady EL you run a very professional team I don’t get to go anywhere due to my disability and autism but you have all created a happy safe and welcoming environment for people like myself which is very rare seriously don’t understand how greatful I am how happy I am coming here thank you for going above and beyond. Sorry if I’m difficult and fussy ( the way you all treat me means lot more than I can say ) I’m greatful to you all thank you 🙏 p.s. sorry for terrible grammar also thank you for looking out for me while I was dining alone for first time. We enjoyed a late lunch here on a Saturday afternoon, as 6 adults and 2 children. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. Having been here approx 5 years ago, I was intrigued to see how this meal would be. The food was delicious, I had the beef brisket mac and cheese and I could have eaten a second bowl! The whole party enjoyed mains and desserts. Only negative I can think of is that it was a shame not to have the fire lit on a cold January. Would definitely recommend a visit here!

Finally found a dog friendly pub with the best service and food! We all loved this place, plenty of veggie options too, we will probably become regulars now.

Food was lovely , only thing that let it down was the quantity of vegetables served for 4 people was a little sparce

There were 10 of us for a family lunch and everything was perfect – fabulous atmosphere, delicious food and wonderfully attentive staff. We couldn’t fault anything. We were so impressed that you managed to feed the whole pub in one sitting – and that the food was perfectly cooked, well presented and piping hot on arrival at the table. Well done – please pass our congratulations and thanks on to the entire team. We have already booked to eat with you again next time we are in Bridgend.

Beautiful food and such a lovely pub. We booked Sunday lunch for 12 adults (along with 6 dogs too!) and we were made to feel very welcome. The beef roast was incredible. It was £22 for 2 courses. I will definitely be back!

We had an amazing Christmas Dinner this year in the Star Inn Treoes. The starters, main course & dessert were all first class - lovely flavours and taste and piping hot. Lots of choices for each course & the portion sizes were very generous. Service and attentiveness of staff were faultless throughout. Would definitely recommend!

Booked a table for Sunday lunch - it was absolutely beautiful. Wonderfully cooked vegetables (not soggy), proper gravy, great Yorkshire puddings and the lamb was so tasty and tender. Would definitely recommend Sunday lunch here.

How disappointing was my experience Christmas day . Although,the staff were friendly and helpful,this was the best part.The prolonged wait in-between courses was totally unacceptable, eg the wait between the starters and the main course was at least three quarters of an hour, We gave up on the desert course and whatever came next , The standard of the food was poor.

What a find! Went here for our works Xmas meal. It was great food loads of choice belly pork starters was exceptional. Service outstanding. 100% going again.

Meals very disappointing , served like a top end restaurant but pub grub, tiny portions, way over priced . Party of 17 of which I think three actually enjoyed the meal although not the quantity, a few even going for a McDonald's straight after , says it all...

Sunday lunch outstanding Service was top class everyone very polite and super efficient The food was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in a long time . The lamb was so tender and full of taste , veg were carrot purée,roasted mixed root veg,red cabbage,sugar snap peas & green beans . Extra gravy . Yorkshire puddings were huge . We were to full for desert but they looked amazing . We will definitely be back You have got this so right . Thank you.

Attentive, professional service and very good food. Even the demanding 4 and 96 year olds in our party were impressed by the pies, gravy, chips and desserts. And parking at the back was fine on a Saturday lunchtime.

Haven’t been to the Star for a while for food, but the food we ordered was superb and the staff and service was excellent and we I’ll definitely be going back.

Amazing place! Stunning food, happy staff. A little on the pricey side but worth it for the treat. I heard the car park is a nightmare but we went on a Friday night and had no issues.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch here for a family member’s birthday. The lamb and beef were perfectly cooked and there was plenty of veg and gravy. Desserts were delicious too. The staff were friendly and helpful. Well recommended and we will definitely be back.

Service was great - friendly and helpful. Also swiftly replaced a dirty glass But the food was disappointment, the beef being filled with carrot which wasn't even mentioned in the description.

It has been 4 years since I have been back to this place. Food was great. Had the meat sharing platter for starter followed by boar and chorizo pie and fished off with a lemon cheesecake. Wife had brie, cranberry and mushroom Wellington then cremebrulee. The food was very nice and showered the staff.

We had a meal with 11 people. The food was lovely and the service was great. When we go back that way we will certainly be returning.

By far the best the Star has been for food over the last 10 years. Honestly no comparison between current and previous owners for food quality. Excellent head chef and not just "pub grub" meals/quality. Very good variety of food and excellent service.

Welcoming and accommodating staff. Delicious food! Even the salad and the dressing were amazing! Will definitely be coming back here again. I hadn't heard of it before but it changed hands recently and is now open and definitely worth a visit!

Food was lovely and well presented. Staff were excellent and the trout main dish is something I would recommend to others.

Today my son took me to the Star for a belated Mother's Day Sunday Lunch. It was ok but I was horrified to see that he was charged £7.50 for a small glass of Rosie. I know prices have gone up but you can get a good bottle of wine for that price. I would like an explanation.

Pub has now opened again and changed hands. Food menu is great, with the expected selection for a country pub, plus a really extensive pie selection which are superb. Steaks are some of the best I've ever had.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was lush. The atmosphere is also really nice, and you don't feel rushed through to finish your meal.

Food was exceptional and service was good. The pepsi was the best pump pepsi I've ever tasted and the lemon cheesecake is delicious. But the jewel in the crown is the Roast dinner.... Definitely a winner! The waiting staff were attentive and lovely.

Just had a delicious Friday lunch. The pies were proper pies and the creme brulee with shortbread superb. They have only been open since early December and I really wish them well. We will definitely be coming again.

Nice pub in a nice quiet village. Popular with locals rather than just tourists which always a good sign. Menu good and quality of food was as hoped for, the curry was plentiful and great, as was the fish and chips !

Had a plastic cup FULL of thousand island sauce with 1 prawn for starters! And over cooked chewy vegetables and burned roast potatoes for main! Not good

Lovely food and drink in a beautiful village

If the food fails then all fails. So this is a country pub tucked away in a small rural village. I’ve eaten here many times in the distant past. Decided to try again after a number of years. The interior has been updated and is fresh and welcoming. The staff were very pleasant. My biggest condemnation is of myself for not speaking up at the time and for answering the obligatory question “Is everything alright with your meal” in a false affirmative. If you’re really serious about getting feedback about your food then you are asking the wrong question. The question should be the “Name one thing that could be better” and take it from there. The chips were exceptional and then it stops there for me. I had cod and chips with mushy peas. The peas were minted which on first sampling was ok, but the mint was overpowering and I soon realised very sharp. There was therefore no real taste of mushy peas and I abandoned them. The fish was way over cooked, the batter was hard and mostly inedible. The cod (hard to tell what white fish it was) was dry and hard and was down there with the worst I’ve ever experienced. The portion was also quite meagre. For a £14 price tag I felt completely ripped off. I did point this out to the waitress as she cleared the half eaten fish away but she made no comment and neither did the chef come out to comment. I thought my wife’s choice of grilled chicken with leek and cheese sauce was ok. She commented favourably on the sauce, the vegetables she thought were good. She likes them, al dente, but they were very underdone for my taste. She finished with a plate half full and only ate a bit of the chicken which was dry and tasteless. The stuffing was ok but overpowered with I think tarragon. I tried her meal so I’m also reporting form a personal space. The sauce was good so really we paid £15 for sauce and chips. Now back to my opening sentence, our main purpose was to go out for a nice meal and this place failed abysmally on that point. I cannot recommend based on this visit and personally I will not visit again. There are plenty of places to eat that are immensely superior, food wise, and within a very short distance. My wife is an excellent chef and to be presented with a meal like she got, is frankly an insult.

Went for Sunday lunch and had the roast beef which was sadly underwhelming, as beef tasteless. It was nice to have individual vegetable dishes. Part of our drinks order was forgotten. It wouldn't take much to improve the experience and get 5 stars.

Had never heard of The Star Inn or Treoes and was following the sat nav to go to another pub when we passed this and just had to take a look. Great beer garden, looked oldee original inside, had a lovely pint of Hobgoblin and a gourmet burger. The meal was huge and very tasty, with gorgeous chips, a coleslaw, salad and onion rings! What a find, will definitely try again! Oh, lovely staff too!

Joint birthday family meal. Really nice village pub, locals at the bar, open dining area so you felt part of the atmosphere. Good range of meals at affordable prices. Sorry no photos .
