Me and the wife decided to come here for dinner as we had friends whom raved about it. It was nice, but I can’t say much more than that. Service was good but nothing really stood out. It was very dark inside. Could do with an update in decor. Overall our visit was ok.

We have been going to the Pig & Whistle for years and have always enjoyed the food, So i took my Husband for a Valentines day lunch, I had a starter from the Valentines Menu my choice was the Hickory smoked bbq pork belly, and it was lovely, My Husband and i both had the Main meal of Fillet pork tenderloin that came with roast potato's Black pudding croquette butter kale with Cider and wholegrain sauce. The meal came and the Waitress said that the side dish of Veg is on it's way ,So we both waited , 5 minutes went past so i asked the Waitress are our Vegetables coming , And her reply was sorry but it doesn't come with a side of Veg , So we started our meal a little disgruntled only to find we had no black pudding croquettes ., I'm sure this was just a mistake when serving on the Chefs side.

We visited The Pig and Whistle with friends yesterday evening, Saturday 1 Feb, and had a great experience. The food and service were both excellent. We chose from the Specials menu -two of us had the Lamb Rump, one had the Duck and another had the chicken. All the food was excellent with plenty of fresh vegetables also provided. The two front of house staff members on duty were really pleasant, welcoming and efficient. Would thoroughly recommend this pub to all- we live within close proximity to the pub and probably visit about 3 times per year and have always had good experiences.

Popped in for lunch today with my partner and the dog. We received a warm welcome and chose our lunch from the specials menu. What can we say but wow! The food was amazing for £10 each. I had the roast lamb which was cooked perfectly and he had the sausage and mash, we devoured it and will definitely be back.

My friend and I both opted for the £10 small plate lunch, with a starter at an additional £3.95. The whitebait starter was acceptable, though clearly frozen and reheated, not freshly cooked. The roast main course portion size was fine for a small plate lunch costing £10, but that was all that was fine. Everything on the plate appeared to have been pre-cooked and heated in the microwave. The slices of reheated lamb were tasteless; there was what I assume was supposed to be a Yorkshire pudding which was flat and soggy; if the roast potatoes had ever been crisp it was a long time ago; there was a stuffing ball that was dry and tasteless. The accompanying portion of carrots, broccoli and a mush that might have been swede were poorly cooked and uninspiring. The real problem though was the service. We arrived about 15 minutes before lunch service was due to begin, ordered a coffee which was served promptly and with a smile by a waitress who promised us menus shortly. From that point on things took a downturn. Over the next half hour three other tables were occupied, all received menus, we continued to wait. When the waiter took the order of the last table to arrive I asked if we could have menus. He clearly wasn't happy to be asked but did supply them. We again had to wait an unreasonable length of time, and then ask for our order to be taken. The attitude of the waiter throughout the was sullen verging on rude. I would strongly recommend that anyone wanting a pleasant lunch find somewhere else to go.

Well you know this is coming . No central heating on in main bar and the room we were seated in .log burner was on in main bar area which was not enough to heat the room to the right which we were seated in and was very cold . Asked if the heating could be put on and told they did not have access to it and did not know how to turn it on. Plus i did see the thermostat was on ZERO, so they moved us a couple of tables away were a stand alone electric fire could be plugged in which is not only dangerous but illegal regarding health and safety issues. I did bring all this to the attention of the waitress who was well aware of the heating issues . The tables were sticky and the carpet in the room we sat in is filthy and need cleaning and the windows need cleaning . The manager would not come out as he was cooking and i can only say the food we had was average and after a long wait 10%was deduced from our bill to get rid of us. Most people were sitting with coats or jackets on which is not acceptable when you are charging good prices and expect customers to be cold when eating. Im sure your response will be interesting !! Photos taken of the electric fire and carpets .

Had a lovely meal here this lunchtime, HOWEVER the management here are awfully rude to their staff. The poor young girl behind the bar was being spoken down to by her boss, which clearly made her feel very uncomfortable. Not only this, the whole of the restaurant were watching this making everyone feel very uncomfortable! Nice place to eat don't get me wrong, but lessons in basic staff management and communication need to be learnt very quickly. The staff all seem to be changing very quickly, and maybe this is the reason why? I would love to hear the thoughts of The Pig and Whistle on this?

Visited here for Sunday Lunch, good quality food let down by the meanest portion of vegetables I have seen for a table of 4 - it would have just been OK for two, and even then less than generous; we asked for another potion but that only gave each of us two slices of carrot! They sure know how to do Sunday lunch here ! This traditional olde worlde country pub has a warm cosy atmosphere, and the staff are equally warm and friendly. Our starters of goats cheese, beetroot and salad with balsamic dressing were beautifully presented and highly delicious. We each ordered the turkey roast, which helpfully comes in two sizes - a great idea ! I must say, despite ordering the “small” size, our meals arrived in mighty generous portions, which we both struggled to finish… but it was so good, finish we did! (Heaven knows how big the large portions are !) The meals came with mountains of side vegetables and lashings of gravy. It was all beautifully cooked and seasoned. If you ever have the chance to visit this delightful pub - go ! We shall be back as soon as we can visit the area again.

And we were so glad we did! We didn’t book but we had a very warm welcome and were shown to a table straight away. The food was absolutely delicious, great portion sizes and a varied Little Piglets menu for our little piglet. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We also met the chef at the end who was very kind to our daughter. Such a lovely little pub, we came home and wrote this review straight away as we are keen to support local businesses and give them the shout out they deserve! We will definitely be back one day, thanks so much :)

We visited the Pig & Whistle on the last evening of our Devon tour. We wished we'd gone sooner so we could go again! The aesthetic is cosy and rustic. We were welcomed by the very friendly staff who laid a table for the three of us plus 2 dogs - including complimentary dog biscuits! My husband had Prawn and smoked salmon cocktail, which was packed with fish with a beautiful tangy cocktail sauce. He ordered the Whistler chicken, which was a beautiful dish with a side of steaming hot veg and dauphinoise potatoes. I had the mushrooms with bacon lardons, which was beautiful. This was followed by the blackened cajun chicken, served with salad leaves, homemade coleslaw and chips. It was a really tasty dish and the best chips I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and nicely seasoned. They were so much better then the hard, dry chips, or triple cooked over done chips a lot of pubs do. My daughter had tempura prawns she said were beautifully light and tasted great. She had the steak and ale pie to follow and said the flavour was rich and comforting. She also loved her chips. The service was quick and helpful, I wish this was our local gastro pub! Please open one in Scotland :-).

Such a shame because the Sunday roast was really nice but massively let down with the service and rude staff. When the roast came out we asked if we could have some more vegetables as we were only given 1 piece of broccoli each and 2 little chopped up carrot pieces and 2 spoonfuls of cauliflower cheese between 4 of us which we were told by a very rude member of staff that this was enough for 4 people. We waited 20 minutes for more vegetables to come out and by that time our food was cold. When our food came out my partner and brother ordered a beer each to enjoy with there meal which never turned up. We were never asked how our food was and then it took over 20 minutes for the bill to come.

After making a table booking, we arrived to be told rather abruptly that we were late...not exactly busy so wasn't as if our table could have been taken. It was Father’s Day and the place was full to the brim. We had a somewhat ‘hemmed in’ table in the corner next to a party of 12. Which was a bit of a struggle, 2 of us had to move to get 1 out, the food arrived after an hour and a half wait and by this point we’re all getting pretty hangry! However … considering this was probably one of the busiest days of year, when the food finally did come out, I’d like to say it was very good, we all had a roast (they offer a choice of either large or small) Pork Turkey Lamb or Beef or vegetarian, the beef was the best I’ve had in years, the Pork was pretty good too. The veg was okay, they forgot the leek n cheese sauce but brought it when we reminded them and I’m glad they did cause that was delicious. Due to the lateness of our food, they were very happy to consider a discount at the end in way of an apology. I don’t very often write reviews but I am today because what started as a bad experience was turned into a decent meal out and I wanted to say thank you for letting us leave with a feeling of content!! The staff all worked very hard and I’m pretty sure that they’ll all be exhausted after this busy day. 😌. We will go back and I will recommend because I’d like to try more of their menu and delicious food for sure, just next time when it’s less busy. Ps the Garlic mushroom starter was superb

My food portions didn't look huge when served, but after eating a starter and a main I didn't have room for a dessert. That said, my partner's Ploughman's was massive and I 'had to help her out with it'. Nice varied menu and interesting specials board. Well this has gone downhill… visited tonight. One of the first ones in there. We travel 3 hours and always go to this pub regularly. The service was slow. We were given a lunch time menu however the menu just said ‘£10 dishes Monday to Friday’ so we weren’t actually aware when ordering and no one mentioned it either. The ‘manager’ didn’t tell us, he said ‘I’ve catered to you but it’s the lunch menu’. This was as he brought the food out, we would’ve happily ordered off the main menu if we were told the one we had was a lunchtime menu. The meals were the same as one of our kids meals if not smaller. Disappointed this wasn’t mentioned during the 50 minute wait for the kids size ‘adult meals’. Then to be met with said ‘that okay?’ Not like we had a choice and were starving by then. He was also rude about my daughter saying they had no penne pasta so she had to have tagliatelle and saying ‘she can make a real mess then’ and rolled his eyes. was also trying to joke about the kids being ‘hangry’ and loud, because my daughter was crying as we waited almost an hour for food. As we left, my partner used the toilet. He walked back into the restaurant to them clearing our table stating ‘that was a vile table’ and laughing about us. I called the restaurant for an apology to be met with ‘your choice to order off that menu’ even though we weren’t informed it was a lunch menu.. They all denied saying anything when I called to ask for an apology over what we had heard and were argumentative and rude. Trying to say he was recording me? For complaining they were being vile towards us. Everything was heard by my partner and point blank denied. He was very rude on the phone accepting no responsibility, only blaming us for their mistake. Wont be back again but used to come regularly on holiday for years and years. Was also told ‘ you can make a formal complaint but Donna and Phil won’t beleive that’ I’m assuming they’re the owners? Not too sure but very extremely disheartened and let down.

But there was no-one at all in the restaurant when we had to move. Nor was there when we left an hour later. Totally unnecessary and not very hospitable in my humble opinion.

We've not been to the Pig and Whistle for many years, but glad we did. Staff are friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, we'll definitely be returning soon. 😀

Very friendly service and amazing food, great pub. The staff are very attentive and the food was delicious We booked a table with no problem and took our little dachshund along, she had a cheeky bit of beef too.

Me and my wife had steak and whistle chicken respectively... My wifes meal was spot on. The whistle chicken is very good but the steak I had was really poor. I asked for medium but recieved a poor cut of meat which was very dry. I did mention this when our table was cleared and recieved 25% off my meal. Which to be honest wasn't really satisfactory as I left most of the steak. Also when I payed the waitress behind the bar was sniffing up. So I moved back

Thank you so much for welcoming us on New year's eve. We were turned away by The Court Farm at Abbotskerswell even though we had booked. They were terrible. But we were rescued by the Pig and Whistle. They managed to accommodate us with no notice and the food and service was terrific. Thank you Pig and Whistle. In future, I say Pig and Whistle, not Court Farm.

The food here is exceptional, well cooked & presented. Not over priced either. Full table service which is lovely. Love everything about this place & its staff.

We are regulars on a Sunday for lunch. I can honestly say the roasts are excellent and the service is impeccable 👌 👍

The food is lovely, but particularly on a Sunday, even with a booking they run out of certain meats. Which is quite frustrating

No pigs and hardly any whistles. Highly misleading. Beer was top notch and selection of tipples better than most.

Met for a large family gathering for which the parking is good. The food was ok (Sunday lunch) but not the best I've had and there weren't very many vegetables. I think more imaginative vegetable accompaniments than cabbage and carrots would be nice. The service was ok considering it was a bit squashed.

First time we been here. We had a set carvery, meat was super soft & tasty. The vegetables between 2 people were a let down. Cauliflower cheese didn't taste cheesy, it was very bland. The gammon was tough, & the turkey was tasteless. Staff were super friendly & very helpful. I would like to try there other meals on the menu. The car park was a let down, as only 2 spaces left, which wasn't big enough for a car. But overall it was a nice, clean pub, with many choices.

There are so many positive things I want to say about Twenty Seven, it's hard to fit them all into a short review. The atmosphere , the service and the food are all unparalleled. Each dish had an expertly balanced brew of flavours that represent a refinement of food years in the making. Clean, elegantly plated courses making it a food experience worth travelling for, and a must if your visiting Devon.
