Well what a fabulous place . We have visited here many many times and it never disappoints you. The place is beautiful with excellent friendly staff and owners who will help you choose if your struggling to order from the fabulous menu . Wether it's breakfast lunch or dinner or one of their fabulous coffees with an indulgent piece of cake or cream tea the food is 💯 percent fresh and very very well presented. We love it here in the evenings with candle lit tables and soft playing music it's amazing I can honestly say the best restaurant in Salcombe.!!! I wouldn't go anywhere else. If you have never visited then don't hesitate to book . Can I also say if you love a glass of wine with dinner then Andrew the owner has a wide knowledge on what to drink just an amazing little gem in Salcombe.

I’d heard great things about the coffee so I was so keen to check this place out and it didn’t disappoint!! But it was the food as well that really impressed us, we started with a breakfast that was so generous and tasty, we ended up booking for lunch and dinner across our stay in Salcombe. You can really appreciate the care and quality of each meal, my wife and I both said it’ll be the main reason to go back to Salcombe. Add to the mix lovely and welcoming staff, always smiling and personable, made us feel like regulars immediately! Thanks to all the team. Even stocked up on coffee to take home and keep us going until next time!

All round great experience; customer service is personable yet professional, with every member of staff both passionate and knowledgeable about what’s on their menu. Speaking of - it’s great! Showcases the local ingredients in classic and inventive ways, the Portuguese cataplana was beautiful and the Tarquin Gin Spritz menu is fab. The food at Bistro 73 is without a doubt the best in Salcombe, or even the south hams.

Unfortunately the coffee doesn't taste good, very sour/burnt. Service is very friendly. What is unfortunately not possible is that you have the feeling that you are no longer welcome from 4:00 p.m. onwards, even though it only closes at 4:30 p.m. (new guests are “sent away” and people are already sweeping and cleaning around you). We wouldn't come back.

Extremely rude service from the cafe owner. I moved to a table that a family had just left (they had previously reserved the table), and was waiting for my two friends to arrive. There was a plug socket next to the table which was unused so I plugged my laptop into it whilst I was doing some admin work. The cafe owner (I assume as he was running around the place frantically) then came over and exclaimed that I couldn’t charge my laptop very aggressively, without any apology. I asked why, he said “you just can’t”. I said well no one is using it, I’m a paying customer, why can’t I use it? It’s a pretty ordinary thing. I can’t imagine he’d have an issue if it was my phone I was charging. And these weren’t business-only plug sockets, they were literally amongst the dining tables and chairs. He refused to give me a reason and just rudely explained that those were his rules and if I didn’t like them I could get out. I said okay fine I’ll unplug my laptop, so I did and continued to go about my business before he disrupts me for a second time asking if I had ordered any food yet and I said no as my two friends were on their way in (plus I had literally only just sat down - this whole encounter took place in under 2 minutes), so he says okay, walks away and then about 30 seconds later comes back and tells me I have to leave as he’s given someone else my table. I said excuse me? He said he had now reserved it for them, and picked up the ‘reserved’ plaque from the family that was there before and placed it down again. I knew this was just a way of forcing me out but I wasn’t in the mood to argue with someone with a clear case of small man syndrome. But I have to say I’ve never been treated like this ANYWHERE, such disgusting and disappointing service. There’s plenty of other places in Salcombe where you can find a nice coffee and breakfast, choose one of those instead. A couple next to me even tried ordering three different things from the menu and he told them he had ran out of all three. So it wasn’t just me being disappointed by the terrible service here that day.

We ate here while on holiday in Salcombe, the food was amazing. We had some specials and a few dishes from the regular menu which were all beautifully cooked. The reason for the 4 out of 5 is due to inconsistencies with the pricing. The specials board indoors Vs the specials board outside had varied prices for the same items. In total this added around a couple of ££ to our bill which we didn’t mind due to the food being very good. I also noticed this with some of the cocktails.

Paid nearly £5 for a takeaway latte. The coffee was overly bitter and the oat milk brought no natural sweetness to the drink as it should. The coffee was served blistering hot and the milk wasn’t frothed to a silky texture as it should be for a latte - I think the staff need training on how to use the espresso machine properly because it was a very disappointing coffee, especially from a coffee company and for the price.

I’ve been going to this restaurant/cafe for years and it’s always a good option for a coffee and a bite to eat. I would advise that they have fallen into the trap of excessive prices to take advantage of the Salcombe norm. I would strongly advise against getting the avocado on toast for breakfast as it is very much a joke and misunderstood addition to the menu by the restaurant. For £10 you will get a single small piece of sourdough sliding around on a huge empty plate with a smothering of avocado. A bit embarrassing for the port restaurant as even the table next to use commented on how poor it was.

Fantastic find. This coffee cafe turns into a bistro in the evening. We were so lucky to have met a local shop owner who recommended this little gem to us. Family run, husband and wife Andrew and Jane plus their son Josh and the lovely Poppy. All so welcoming with a passion for food, very fresh and locally sourced. We had crab and prawn starters, beautifully cooked hake with a crab crusted topping, fabulous creme blanc sauce and a side of fresh vegetables. We learnt something new and tasted something different call samphire, which really complimented the Hake dish, looking like a green veg/slightly salty. Absolutely wonderful, all washed down with a delicate cote de Rhone red. Superb food. Thank you.

Starters of butterflyed king prawns, seafood “chowder’, followed by two of the specials; pan fried fish with crushed potatoes and asparagus and a keralean seafood dish. Wonderful. We spend a lot of time in Salcombe and always visit the Salcombe Coffee Co whilst there. We love the coffee, cakes and vegan breakfast to name a few items and the food served in their evening bistro is the best in Salcombe. We also love the specials board that is updated daily with fantastic local produce. I met my friend there today who hasn’t been to Salcombe before. She was equally impressed and it was clear that other customers also shared our view. We could hear positive comments being made about the food whist they were eating, or when they left and thanked the staff. It was also lovely to see the waitresses chatting to customers asking where they’d come from and if they were enjoying their visit to the area. Thanks to all of the team, we’re looking forward to seeing you again soon.

We come down to Salcombe regularly because my family live here and pop into this cafe because its good food and coffee but unfortunately one member of staff made it unpleasant last week she rudely spoke to my husband and told him off loudly because we tried to push two tables together so we could all sit together. Because of this a couple offered to move tables which was very good of them .. She quoted health and safety which is funny because we both do risk assessment in our jobs...there was no problem...we didn't get funny but she did...very embarrassing where is good customer service she was obviously a bossy boots and ruined what should of been a good atmosphere, the other younger girls were nice and polite...apparently my husband said she had been rude before few months previously when I tried to take a coffee cup off her to help her she rudely told me not to...not sure if she is in charge when the owner isn't there ...he is very pleasant....I really hope that this individual realises that alot of family and friends visit and this is off putting ...hopefully she won't be there next time we visit...other than that the coffee cake and breakfast is good. I really think that they are friendly more to locals and need to up their game ...

I went into the Salcombe Coffee Company today, in Salcombe, with my mother and 4 year old son, mid-morning, for coffee, milk and croissants. It was fairly full, but there were one or two free tables and we sat down straight away. We waited 10 minutes before I finally caught a waitresses eye and asked if we could order. She said she’d come back… 5 minutes later she came back with menus. I asked if we could just order straight away as we just wanted coffee but she said she couldn’t take our order then and that she’d be back. We waited another 15 minutes before she came to take our order of two coffees, a milk and two croissants. The croissants came straight away and we’re very good. Another 15 minutes later and our coffees had still not come. By this time we were really annoyed as we’d sat with a wriggly and bored 4 year old for 45 minutes in a coffee shop without any coffee appearing! I finally went up to the counter and asked how long they’d be and if we could have them in take-away cups as we’d only put an hour on the parking and it was about to expire! The staff were very defensive and huffy, not at all apologetic. I understand that August is their busiest time, which they pointed out, and all the coffee shops we saw were busy, but not all their tables were full, they didn’t have a line of takeaway orders and there seemed to be quite a few staff, so come on! 45 minutes for 2 coffees! That said, when we finally got the coffee, it was very good! But still, I definitely won’t be back!

Visited Salcombe for the day (we were staying in Dartmouth) and popped in for lunch. £3.40 for a cup of tea we felt was a bit excessive but I suppose that’s the overpriced Salcombe for you ! Staff friendly enough but there were so many of them it felt a little too much especially as you could hear all about their social lives and plans , also they were more concerned with what to have for their own lunch than serving us! Food was nice , no one was unfriendly or unhelpful but we just felt they were a little indiscreet ….. Also long hair in the kitchen needs to be not only tied up but under a cap if the ponytail keeps falling in one’s face……..

Popular spot in the middle of the Salcombe seafront - always busy but a relatively quick turnaround of people so you can get a table easily enough. Overall not a bad place - not particularly stylish inside but must say the staff were all very friendly and accommodating, the best thing about it really. I wouldn’t say the food or the coffee particularly matched up to that - after a very decent wait for 2 sandwiches we were somewhat underwhelmed, the club sandwich was an enormous amount of bread and not nearly enough filling to justify it, and with a few stray crisps on the side it felt a long way from a £14 sandwich - throw the Diet Coke on top for over £4 inc service and was very overpriced for not a lot.

The hot chocolate this time was slightly warmer but not very chocolaty. No one came over to see if all was well. These two drinks cost nearly £8. I wouldn't go back. I think the girls need some hospitality training although the man, who I assumed was the owner, was very pleasant. Also one of the girls turned away a couple saying they couldn't be served for at least 20 minutes. Within minutes another couple appeared. After a few days in Salcombe, we had breakfast here before we left, busy, friendly, great food 😋 recommend the "Bacon sandwich as it should be" if you eat meat, otherwise you'll enjoy avocado on toast, but it a lot smaller and more expensive. 😂

Food ,portions and coffee was exceptional. Prices great also. Unfortunately the service was pretty bad . Was seated by a very surly young lady who was not only rude to us but to a lady at another table. There was a lot of spillage at the table on the floor where we were seated, and brought it to the young ladys attention In the hope it would be cleaned up. IT WASN'T I don't usually put negative reviews but think it's such a shame that just one employee can bring down the ratings and opinion of a further visit. Such a Shame as was such a lovely place other wise

Amazing at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The bacon sandwich was possibly the best I've ever tried.

The sandwiches are great. The club sandwich here is a masterpiece. The coffee is also very good. Dogs are welcome and will likely get a treat.

Stopped here for a coffee and was taken in by the look of the food so I indulged in cream tea and my wife had a fantastic sandwich. The food was amazing, the coffee awesome and the service was very welcoming. We will look to visit here again when we return to Salcombe. UPDATE Just been again September 2022 and the food is still just amazing. Great value food and wonderful coffee.

Visited here on a trip to Salcombe, and went in for a Devon cream tea. We ordered four of these for our party, and we all were given two lovely currant scones, a pot of clotted cream, some tasty strawberry jam and an individual pot of tea. The scones we're fresh and warm, the jam was plentiful and had a good strawberry flavour, and the teapot yielded two nice big cups of tea. The menu also has a good variety of lunchtime options with tasty sandwiches and cheesy nachos.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
