Probably the best steak pie meal I've had - pies and sides are phenomenal, service superb, beautiful building. Not quite five stars as at dessert stage we were disappointed, rosemary wasn't detectable in the apple and rosemary crumble, and the cheeseboard was just supermarket cheddar/brie/stilton straight from the fridge - for a county with such brilliant local cheeses that was a let-down. But you won't need a pudding, stick with the phenomenal pies and sides (be sure to try the mushy peas) and you'll be well fed and happy.

It’s posh pies - However we decided we wanted something different, I know it’s a pie. We were sat in a chair with my back to the toilets so we asked to move - no problem at all. Then we got interaction from the staff, good friendly conversations from both the lady & the young waiter - excellent it made it personal & friendly. The I had the steak & kidney, my wife had the steak with Stilton we had the standard veg & mash that comes with it - Beautiful. Sweet course I had the apple crumble, my wife had cheesecake - all washed down with the Shiraz. The evening was superb the meal excellent the staff- well they just Made the evening. I can’t recommend this enough

The staff were very courteous and friendly and very attentive making sure we as a group were looked after and well tailored for. The food was very prompt with minimal wait of 10 to 15 mins between starters finishing. Portion sizes were decent and very moreish and fulling, definitely sorts out the need to eat a pie.

Lovely restaurant, the sign outside that reads dogs welcome made us walk in, very funny!!. Had a delicious lunch. The sausage roll starter was gorgeous. Our mains, (myself the steak pie and partner had the rabbit) were again delicious. Very attentive staff and reasonable prices for the standard of food here. My only negative was that I didn’t have enough room left to have the sticky toffee pudding which looked Devine. Would highly recommended this restaurant to anyone spending the day in Lincoln. We will definitely be returning on our next trip.

We ate here one evening when we were staying in Lincoln and wanted something other than the usual chains. We really enjoyed it. I had a veggie pie and my husband had a meat one, and we both had a pudding as well. Service was excellent, the waiter had only been working there a week when we were there but was really attentive and friendly.

A very disappointing experience. We had been looking forward to eating here for some time having enjoyed meals in the past under previous owners. We were in and out within 35 minutes. Our meals were served very quickly, before one of us was seated. The pies tasted as if they had been sitting on warming trays for far too long. We both chose the lamb and mint pie but could not taste any mint. We requested mint sauce to enhance the taste but were told they did not have any We both chose different flavoured mash but there was no flavour (after mentioning this we were not charged the extra). We were given a small dish of vegetables to share which was inadequate. One of the trio of vegetables was broccoli which consisted of 3 tiny florets - very poor. We felt as if all they wanted was to get customers in and out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. We would certainly not recommend going here to anyone.

Back in the area for a long weekend and to our horror, we couldn’t find Browns Pie Shop on TripAdvisor. As we passed the place, we saw it had been rebranded so we popped in for lunch. It seemed more up market but Thankfully some of the staff and the chef were from when it was Browns so the food and the service were as good as we remembered. The horseradish mash was absolutely amazing. The pies, some of the best we have ever tasted. Will certainly return when we are next in the area

My friend and I were not sure what to expect but had assumed that this would a 'Joe's Kaff' style. However, we were very pleasantly surprised that it was as characterful and sophisticated as it was. Not very big but clean and perfectly formed and we both thought it would be the perfect venue for an office 'do', a birthday party or even a 'first date' (even the discreetly piped music was perfect). The waitresses were polite, friendly, smiling and professional and their expertise in running up and down a twisting narrow staircase with plates of hot food had me awestruck. Our food arrived very quickly and was hot and extremely tasty, the pies being rammed full of meat. The dessert was light, refreshing and unusual and again, delicious. We both felt full but without feeling bloated or uncomfortable. It was also very impressive to see a young lady eating lunch on her own - even in these days not all outlets are so accommodating to a single diner. The cost was very reasonable for what was an extremely enjoyable experience - I couldn't rate this restaurant highly enough, First Class, all round.

Absolutely thrilled to finally come to hobsons restaurant. Firstly the two waiting staff ,were so lovely ,polite and welcoming. Quickly seated to our table and advised us the menu with any questions we had. We had two starters, mushrooms and Scotch egg both lovely. Obviously had pie for mains and honestly so good . Service, atmosphere and food give this place a 10/10. And to the haslet sausage roll you have to try or be like us and bring some home. Well done guys for making our date night special.

Don’t fall for the haslet sausage roll in the window. It’s basically an uncooked stuffing with a very small Amount of pork. They looked beautiful but upon my first bite they had an uncooked taste, I ate most of it because I was hungry but I suffered from indigestion, unsavoury taste and smell burps and felt sick all day. Totallly ruined my day 🤮,

The food was very good, steak and kidney pie and fish pie and we both had cheesecake to follow. On the downside the men complained there was no proper beer or alcohol free beer, just peroni and a brewdog offering that cost over £5 for not even a pint. The head waitress didn’t understand the difference between beer and lager. Water wasn’t automatically provided and had to be requested. Having said that we will be pleased to return once they get the drinks sorted.

We blew in on a chilly, wet night and received the warmest, most genuinely friendly welcome from all 3 of the young waiting staff. The recently refurbished decor shone with beautiful mirrors and glowing candles, we had definitely made the right choice, and felt instantly at home. And that was even before the food! We shared the mushroom & herb parfait with garlic toast, then the lamb, redcurrant and mint pie for him, and the pulled pork and Monterey Jack pie for me. A trio of beautifully cooked fresh veg: bashed neeps, red cabbage and broccoli. Well. I’m stuck for superlatives. This was, without doubt, the most delicious and generous food to come from a restaurant kitchen in a long while. 2 days later and we’re still luxuriating in the experience. If I aged hip replacement and dodgy knee surgery hasn’t prevented me, I’d have sprinted up the stairs and kissed the chef. Thank you, all you delightful folk at Hobbsons, for a glorious evening.

Was really looking forward to this restaurant as had seen excellent reviews. Unfortunately now under a new name & presumably new owners. Quiet subdued atmosphere althought it was a 6.30 booking .Over attentive service to the point were we felt we were bring stared at by the Maitre D. Ordered Steak & Ale pie which was incredibly overcooked (dark brown dry pastry) I told the staff this & was offered a free dessert which wasn't wanted or 20% off. I presumed the 20% was off the total bill but no, just the item I complained about. i.e. £4 reduction. The Fish Pie was deemed "OK but nothing special" & although topped with mased potato, was served with mashed potato on the side & no veg. No draught beer, limited wine choice by the glass. Complimentary children's lollipop as a parting gesture. Most odd experience.

Amazing pies, in a lovely little restaurant. We weren't expecting much from a "pie shop" but this place is a little gem. The dining room is tucked away from the hustle of Steep Hill, calm and newly renovated in a classic but contemporary style. The pies were absolutely delicious - we had steak & kidney, steak & ale, and lamb, redcurrant & mint, all served with buttery mash and fresh veg. The pastry was perfectly cooked too - no soggy bottoms. My son had Lincolnshire sausages & mash, which were really meaty and he wolfed it down! The wine list looked really good, and we were sad that we couldn't fit in some of the delicious sounding desserts.

Enjoyed a family meal in the rustic settings of the restaurant. The pies were very nice. Throughly recommend the Steak and Spitfire ale. So disappointed. This used to be a fave place of mine to go eat that was a little bit special but reasonable. Unfortunately it is now neither a little bit special or reasonable. Portions are incredibly small. Four tiny heads of broccoli, a spoonful of carrots and a spoonful of red cabbage does not serve two! Pie tasted nice but again was very small. A lot of casing and not much substance/filling. Puddings were the worst. Sticky toffee pudding that was like a burnt treacle sponge. Told the waiter but no feedback/comments. Four spoonfuls of lukewarm lumpy custard as a side to the pudding. The cheeseboard was even sadder. Four pieces of cheese paired with 5 crackers, the tiniest portion of butter and a tiny spoon of chutney. No grapes, apple, etc. Staff were 'ok'. A blond waitress didn't seem to know the menu well and seemed annoyed when we asked questions. Lots of sighs, face like thunder and eye rolls. Katie however was the star of the night. However the worst part came when we got the bill to find a £12 service charge had been added. I don't mind tipping (in fact I think we should!) but I don't like it being added. When we asked the waiting staff if they got this money they said 'no it goes to the owners!' This is shocking behaviour. We promptly asked for the service charge to be removed and left cash for the wait staff in the hope the greedy owners don't get this! I wouldn't recommend and unfortunately I won't be back. No longer special - it is a pie shop but they need to change their prices to reflect this.

I don't usually post reviews but first visit here having heard good reports. Staff were very polite and helpful. We both had pie and mash £16 each. The pies and mash were nice but came with such a small portion of (not great) veg which we then had to share. Pot of tea for two £6. Having complained about the veg portion size they did remove the service charge which I didn't even realise was being charged in the first place! So £38 for pie and mash twice including two teas. This was our second visit. The first time, things weren’t great (slow service, cold food, incorrect bill) but we decided to give it another go a couple of months later. When we arrived, there were 3 people stood at the bar who ignored us. Having pre-booked, we let them know and were taken to our table. There were just 2 other tables of customers (each of 2 people) when we sat down. It then took a long time to get anyone’s attention to order. The first person took our drinks order only and brought two glasses of pop instead of the bottled drinks we ordered. In this time, the two tables left and two others filled up. They were served immediately, drinks brought and food order taken. 30 minutes later we asked another passing person to take our food order and were told they’d be right back with the iPad. After 45 minutes we gave up, paid for the drinks and left. At this point, there were still just two tables full, so 3 in total including us with 3 people serving. The person who took our payment apologised and said they were short staffed. It was all very disappointing and a bit odd. We won’t be back.

Ive previously enjoyed visits to the restaurant so i was expecting good things from their takeaway service.I ordered my food around Friday lunchtime for collection at 6pm i ordered a pork black pud pie and a chicken and mushroom both with chips and veg. I was pleasantly surprised to get a phone call confirming my order not once but twice, so i felt reassured it would be correct. So i arrive at the restaurant to pick my food up at 6pm to be left waiting for another 20mins speaking to multiple members of staff to find out if it was nearly ready because i was the only person sat there and was no sign of deliveries leaving. After waiting the 20 minutes after my collection time i receive my food and the order is read out me as i have it handed to me. Needless to say i was shocked to get home and find that the sides of chips had been replaced by mash and the pork and black pudding pie had been replaced by a vegetarian spicy veg pie ( i feel sorry for the vegetarian that received my pie).I call the restaurant to explain what has happened and i get the owner on the phone who is very apologetic and says he will arrange a free meal and delivery for the following day, which i thank him for, and we arrange for it to be delivered for 6pm.Gets to 6.20pm the next day and still no food so i ring the restaurant to check that the driver hadn't got lost, to find out they hadn't got a clue about our food, so i ask to speak to the owner who is apologetic again and uses the excuse he is very tired and the message didn’t get relayed to his staff. So again he offers to delivery a free meal for the Sunday and that he would ring me the following day to organise what food me and my partner would like.It is now Thursday...... still no phone call, so personally im disappointed in the customer service and lack of follow through to try and rectify their mistake. I will not be getting another takeaway from them because i have lost all confidence that the food i have paid for will be correct and if it isn’t correct they don’t care enough to try and rectify it to keep my business.

I worked a few shifts at Brown's in March 2020, just before the pandemic and 8 months later and yet to be paid. I am a student (which they are aware of), and therefore left Lincoln during March to October, during which time I have contacted them numerous times through WhatsApp and have been blatantly ignored. I recently went in to speak to the manager face to face to ask about my wages, to be greeted rudely and as though I was a nuisance for trying to get my earned wages. They claimed to not have a record of my shift which is poor, and not to have my BACs, even though I had sent them to his girlfriend and the lady who had hired me. He also claimed to have tried to contact my mum, but clearly not very hard as she never received his call back. It is a nice place to eat and I didn't want to have to leave a bad review but 8 months is ridiculous and hopefully this will get their attention.

On a damp Thursday evening we were one of four tables dining. We both had the steak, kidney and mushroom pie with chips (£1 extra) or comes with mash and a selection of vegetables served separately. We also shared a bottle of wine and jug of water. Extra gravy would have been welcomed and should perhaps be served in a gravy boat automatically. Overall an enjoyable meal and the pies were indeed very good however overall slightly on the expensive side for both food and wine.

Located on ‘Steep Hill’ close to the Cathedral, Brown’s is a well known eating establishment and very popular, making a reservation is essential. Very friendly staff greet you and they were attentive throughout. The menu has lots of choice and although Brown’s is known for its pies there are other options. However pies are what this place is famous for! Lovely pastry and the filling is generous and delicious. Sides can be ordered but the choice of mash or chips and the veg is ample. The desserts were equally delicious. Overall an excellent experience at Brown’s.

Went here for dinner on a visit to Lincoln. I had the beef and ale pie and my partner had the chicken and leak pie. Both were really tasty and served with mash , gravy and vegetables. Well presented and great taste. Well worth a visit if you are in Lincoln.

Although I have never had the pleasure of eating in the restaurant, since being introduced to Browns pies by takeaway / delivery, I have fallen in love with them. This pie shop was recommended to me and I am so glad that it was. They are fully packed with flavor and yet the pastry is so light - not stodgy or soggy.Try the gravy as well. It is really something else.During lock down, they even delivered to a village local to us - brilliant service, brilliant pies!

Misleading pie choice! The lamb pie was mince. It doesn’t say mince. It should! If I order steak pie I’d expect chunks of steak and if I got mince I’d be disappointed. Personally I think it’s misleading to advertise lamb pie and serve minced lamb with veg. Disappointing. We queried it after and got a very rude response telling us it was down to cost! Also said they didn’t have to specify. We disagree. Really disappointed to have received such a passive aggressive response when we were really polite! Customer service not high on the agenda and clearly not interested in repeat business. Given we have eaten in the restaurant a lot we felt really upset at their response. We won’t go back. We wanted to support them by using this new facility but not anymore. Shame. Previous owners would never have spoken to us like this.

Take out pie, mash and gravy for Sunday dinner. Managed to get the last pies of the day and they heated up really nicely in the oven later at home - gravy was delicious. Mash doesn’t reheat quite as well but that’s mash for u! Still really nice . We will use again especially in the colder months but it’s a weighty treat and could not be too often .

Takeaway not as great as the restaurant. Disappointing pies with not much filling. The lamb is just mince and padded out with veg. We expected actual chunks of lamb. The vegetables became over cooked once reheated. The sticky toffee pudding had hardly any sauce. Over priced. We love this restaurant so this was a bit of a let down.

Fantastic place to visit if you fancy a salty dry piece of hake next to a toilet. And so good to see plenty of paper towels for hand washing - all over the floor 😷

Our last night in Lincoln, and we were lucky enough in our group of 5 to have a browns waitress from the 80s in our party. So we had ‘insider knowledge’ on how good the pies were.Browns has a tiny frontage near the very top of steep hill and very close to the cathedral. Browns is not just a restaurant but a takeaway too.The friendly staff gave us a warm welcome, and we were sat right at the back of the restaurant. Even though it was a Sunday night, it was still 3/4s full. All the other diners seemed to be in a jolly mood, which gave a super ambiance. Obviously the menu is pie biased, and I am sure their is a flavour to suit every taste. Extra veg is available (at a price) and this includes red cabbage, chunky chips and the most awesome cauliflower cheese. So, who ate all the pies? Well we had a good bash...but as for Humphrey...you will have to visit to find out all about this character.

Stayed in the area for work and tried Browns pie shop for an evening meal. I ordered the rabbit pie as recommended as it's not always available. I'm so glad I did, it was truly delicious served with mash and seasonal vegetables. I was gutted I found the place on my last night in Lincoln as I'd have visited every night! I will definitely go again when next in the area. The staff were lovely too.

For a business of this high quality of food and service I am surprised that they cannot afford a working card machine, absolutely embarrassing. After being told that the card machine was a bit temperamental I was left in a situation where my card payment was being voided because of the signal and the lack of working technology in the building. If you ever come here for a meal I suggest highly that you bring cash and do not pay with any sort of card. I do find it bizarre that a business like this cannot spend an extra £20 on a new card machine.. after all of this malarkey I was told to go to the cashpoint up the road to draw cash out, and on this occasion I did because I just wanted to get it over and done with, any other time I would’ve refused as I’d already been waiting 20 minutes to pay by my card. BUY A NEW ONE. Also the lady on the bar said that the card machine had been like this ever since she started working there and even possibly before!

Visited here for dinner on a rainy Friday evening. Cosy little restaurant, a bit of a tight fit between some of the tables but no big deal. The pies were of really good quality, you get to choose whether you have it fully encased or just a pot pie. It's all presented well too including the mash. Definitely recommend.

I visited browns pie shop tonight with my partner, upon arrival the atmosphere was chaotic it is a small restaurant and we were sat near a large party table which meant we couldn’t even hear each other. Non the less I brushed this off as these things happen.

We have not visited for a few years as we live in Berkshire, the food choice was excellent, there was sonething for everyone. There were 4 in the group and we all ordered something different for mains and starter. We were all very impressed by the quality and standard of the food, it was exceptional. We will definately not leave it s long until our next visit.

Been here many times and always had a good meal At a good price. There are many pies to choose from with different pastries. My favourite is the simple Steak and Kidney with short crust pastry. There are of course other selections on the menu. The dining areas are cosy. I prefer not to eat downstairs it is I think a little claustrophobic. But you can ask when you book to be on ground level. A point of interest is the plaque on the outside wall states that once, Lawrence of Arabia lodged here. I hope he enjoyed his pie as much as I did!

Birthday meal with a friend. The staff were really friendly and accommodated my request to have three starters, one for a starter and two for mains. (The scotch egg was so good and a runny middle.) As I really couldn’t decide. The food was glorious as usual we had a lovely time and will return again.

A group of business colleagues and I had the pleasure of dining in this wonderful restaurant last night and we chose the tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was incredible, the 2 chefs were personable and informative on every course. The waiting staff were extremely attentive and could not fault anything about our experience. Highly recommended and I will be back again soon.

We enjoyed the food - lovely starts and pies! - had a problem with the beef wellington ... but swiftly rectified and we had a good evening. Table service was attentive and friendly ... though not sure that the front of house is working quite as smooth as it might .... but may be just that the wifi is difficult in such an old house .. so bill paying is all at the front. Overall, good food and an enjoyable time despite the hiccup!

We visited with friends and the service was nothing short of terrible. We had to ask for menus after waiting for 20 minutes. Starters came before our drinks. We were charged for a beer that we didn’t receive (was taken off the bill when we pointed it out). The blonde lady at reception was very abrupt and struggled to sort out our payments when we paid the bill (we were splitting it in two with friends). The atmosphere seemed chaotic.

Enjoyed a Sunday roast….. Offered a Good choice of meats or fish & chips. Piping hot food freshly cooked & plentiful carved choice of one or 2 sorts of meat. A Small or regular portion is available at a very good price. Followed by a varied selection of desserts which are a very generous portion. Lovely friendly service in a traditional public house setting. Would recommend without hesitation.

I am so lucky to live local to this wonderful tea shop. The BLT sandwich is to die for. Lovely, fresh homemade coleslaw and salad to go with a very generous, well presented sandwich, and of course crisps. I can only rave about every aspect of the place. Staff are welcoming, food is delish, atmosphere inviting, well-priced. The only thing is, it is so popular that you can't always get in. Luckily for me, they have sustainable packaging for takeaways. Do book if you want to sit-in though. Oh, the coffee is also fabulous.
