Lovely cosy place, excellent choice of beers, equally brilliant food! Highly recommended for eating out

Arrived promptly at 12.50 for a table booking at 1pm. 1.15 we were asked if we wanted a drink. We ordered 1 starter which arrived 1.40. at 1.50 both main meals arrived. so My wife had sat down for an hour before having anything to eat. I asked twice for pepper to be available, no pepper arrived. This despite asking two different members of staff. We ordered 1 sweet which arrived at 2.25 So in summary food was Good. Service took 2 hours to have a meal for 2, 1 starter and 1 sweet. I have always raved about this Tap and Kitchen, so we were disappointed with the service but just hope they have not got complacent after being so successful

Had an enjoyable lunch with friends. Generally the food was OK but the Croque Madame was very salty. Will be sure to mahe a different choice next time.

Really great food, amazing service, highly recommend.

Just a great experience. A small menu but something for everyone. You can mix it up with various sides/small dishes or whatever you like. You get one side with a main so it seems expensive but at least you don’t have loads of extras. The beetroot was sensational and the belly pork was the best my friend has ever eaten apparently! My Hereford beef cooked rare was also very good. It wasn’t cheap but great service and a nice ambience helped make it a place I would definitely return to. It was busy, even on a Monday night. Booking advisable!

Last visit review below must have been a bad day! We have been again for Sunday lunch, twice, and both visits have been excellent. Revisited but this time not so good, have therefore cut it down to 3 stars. Reasons - main reason is being charged for items we didn't have or were incorrect items and service wasn't brilliant. My fault, for the bill, as I left it to my husband to pay and he didn't check, so have pondered on whether to rewrite this review but it was wrong by a fair amount so this is just a warning to others to check thoroughly. We were charged for two extra half pints to the one we did have, the girl serving apologised and said she would remove them but no they are on the receipt. Starters were luke warm, think they must have been waiting on the side. A main meal came incorrect and was charged extra, sides that are supposed to be included with mains were charged. As I say adds up and what with 10% service charge (that was in no way deserved and i would have asked to be halved) being added as we were over 6 it was overly expensive. Previous review: Lovely place, lovely meal, lovely beer, lovely service. Lovely.

Great place for a family & friends meal out. We had starters, mains & puddings, all of which were great. The artichoke & the scallop starters were particularly nice to begin with. Great selection of main course options & really, really nice puddings. Very attentive service from happy staff. Definitely recommend this place.

We stopped at Tap & Kitchen for lunch whilst passing through Oundle and what a find! Beautiful setting overlooking the river, delicious food, great beer brewed right next door & friendly and efficient service. Will definitely make a detour to visit again.

My big concern with the Tap and Kitchen is that they advertise that they are dog friendly and that's fine, but the staff make a fuss of the dogs and play with them and you see the staff go back into the kitchen and come straight out with food. They clearly would not have time to wash their hands.

Excellent venue right on the Nene. Great craft beers and excellent food. Portions were ver generous. Plenty of parking too.

We have been here a couple of times for drinks and food. It is a lovely place with a garden by the river. There is a list of Ales to choose from. The food is very good . It gets busy, especially at the weekend, but can usually find somewhere to sit.

Lunch with friends. Fantastic setting over looking river. Food and service excellent. Staff friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have wonderful experience. Lauren was so welcoming and knowledgeable and such a lovely young lady.

We were a party of 16 celebrating our son's 40th birthday. The staff couldn't have been more helpful even allowing us to take a birthday cake with us. Our food was pre ordered and the children's meals came out with the starters. The food was amazing, very well presented and piping hot. If we still lived in Northamptonshire this would be a regular visit for us but now being a 2 hour drive it's a little too far 😞 The venue offers excellent value for money and we would highly recommend it 😊

Reservation at 7:30 Drinks were not served until 8pm Starter of scallops on sweet potato for me and prawns to shell for my partner Scallops were over cooked and bacon burnt, star of the show was the sweet potato mash. My partner wanted butter and pepper for his prawns however we could not make anyone hear us, so gad to go without. My pork main was hard and very difficult to cut and yoghurt side definitely did not go with the dish, it felt like it was cooked from frozen as grain was very tight, my partner asked for burger well done, however when it arrived it took every piece of moisture from your mouth upon eating. Star of meal was the posset Wouldn’t return to be honest, not the best

Chose this place for a big birthday meal and was really looking forward to it. We had pre ordered and paid a deposit in advance. Despite of this some of the pre ordered food had run out even though it had been been asked for a few weeks in advance. Some of the food wasn't cooked correctly and had to go back and the burgers didn't get their own chips. The sides weren't what we asked for on the pre order. We were also placed outside in the heat which caused one of the group to be sick. We ended up taking off the service charge as the food took a while, wasn't cooked correctly, ran out of pre ordered food and one of the girls was obviously angry when we paid separately. Maybe it was just a bad day as it is has been great on other occasions.

First time here with husband,son and daughter in law who live in Wittering. We live in Hertfordshire. It was a beautiful setting on a lovely warm evening. Food and service and of course the beers were amazing. Will definitely go again.

We just had our wedding dinner here and everything was nothing short of amazing! T&K was where we had our 2nd date, so it was an obvious choice. But more so due to us being repeat customers for just us and family meals and it has never disappointed. The team were amazingly welcoming in setting a menu and table style (27 of us) and we chose to have banquet style eating. This got everyone talking on how great and sociable it was to eat this way. The food was just awesome, again loads of comments on how good it was. But also noticeable was the service, that perfect balance of making sure everyone was happy without being intrusive, in fact the staff almost seemed to be part of the group. Thank you T&K, not only do we have great memories but everyone is still raving about it.

Monday night and it's packed, and no wonder, great service and plentiful well prepared food - the beer's not bad either.

Good service, tasty steaks and a good selection of beer. There is seating overlooking the river which is quieter and brighter than the main restuarant. Great stop over when the Peterborough Services are busy. Make a reservation if you can.

Food was great. Expensive, but tasty. Staff rather rude and argumentative. Asked to split the bill between 8 of us, this was met with sighs from the staff and we were told to go 'queue at the till if you want to split the bill'. At the till, they tried to charge my friend £84 for a £32 meal with 2 beers! When queried we were told that was the price. Basic maths was not a strong point at The Tap and Kitchen. After much wrangling, it was determined he'd been charged twice, but refunding him for one meal seemed to be a right challenge for them As we were a party of 8, a 10% service charge was added. Due to the poor service, we asked this to be removed. This was also met with sulks. The cracking location, nice decor and good food are the things I'd love to write this review about, but the stinky attitude of Carol Vorderman at the till was all we could talk about on the journey home.

Visited the Tap and Kitchen on a Tuesday lunchtime based on the Google reviews. I can absolutely confirm that the reviews are 100% right! The styling and decoration of the restaurant is really nice, very industrial. The food was really delicious, my wife opted for a salmon sandwich and I had a pizza, both were very nice. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely incredible, it might have been the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot!). There is a brewery next door which sells really nice beers. Would definitely recommend!

First visit with friends & thoroughly enjoyed the food & staff very helpful & friendly

Would not come again. We were walking a dog in Oundle and were kind of recommended / kind of not really recommended this place. We were told that it used to be nice, but it is not anymore but if we are hungry and do not walk to walk all the way to the town centre we might be OK there. I personally would have walked to the city centre, but my elderly family was rather tired after the walk. Food average, did not have 2 out of 5 things we ordered. Average beer. Very Very pricey . Not that dog friendly, only at the bar exposed area .

I was very disappointed with my visit today. The food was fairly decent but the service was seriously lacking. We waited so long to get our table cleared and to be asked if we wanted anything else. Very disappointed! 😞 sadly won't be returning

An outstanding Sunday lunch. Lots of interesting things on the menu, so it was very hard to choose. Great starters, with plenty of local, seasonal ingredients, which is great to see. Plenty of main courses too, as well as Sunday roasts, which is excellent for those who want something different. Saying that, we all had roasts! The beef and pork were both fantastic and the vegetables were perfect. Make sure you get some cauliflower cheese too, as it's delicious. Pudding choices were great, though we were all so full we couldn't manage one. There's an alternative Little Pudding, which is a small portion that comes with your coffee. Absolutely perfect and a great idea that more places should adopt. Service was excellent and the team were brilliant in every way. Definitely the best Sunday lunch in the area Very highly recommended

Just spent an evening here with friends , best night , food and atmosphere I’ve experienced for a while . Stella ( apart from being a Harry Potter fan ) and all the staff made our night enjoyable, food was excellent and so different to the norm . Will be back , thank you .

Great atmosphere in this place. My first two meal options were unavailable, which took time to be relayed back to me. Third option took nearly an hour to arrive, by which time everyone else had all but finished eating. Then when I finally received my meal it was sub standard. Pork was over cooked and dry. I only ate ¼ of it. Poor is a fair comment on the food. Even looking at the food the others were eating. I didnt get food envy. Which is unusual and worrying really. The beer was really good. huge selection. I stayed on their best bitter. it was excellent.

A last minute decision to eat out this evening. So date night at the TnK it was. As always service, food and atmosphere were on point. Olivia looks after us brilliantly. Scallops to start - just the most delicious starter. One duck and one hanger steak - both cooked perfectly. Pudding baked Alaska and chocolate nemesis = two very full and satisfied customers. My favourite place to eat and visit in Oundle. Lucky to have it on the doorstep.

Wow best meal in a long time! So nice!!

I do struggle to eat certain food, due to mouth cancer, I checked the menu on line and picked risotto as this is very easy to eat. I was told that they had run out. There was nothing else that was soft and fluid. I went for moules, but not easy for me. We waited a very long time for the food to be delivered. On the plus side the lemon dessert was lovely. This is not cheapest of restaurants, the people with me enjoyed there lunch. Restaurants ask if you have allergy, but always dismiss me when I say I have eating problems.

Fantastic riverside spot with Real Ales, great food, and friendly service.

Never visited this place before last Sunday but had the opportunity to try the menu as part of a Mother's day outing with the family. Wide choice of dishes on offer to suit all tastes. Being a meat fanatic I chose the Duck pate and steak. Both were in a different class to the usual offerings you get at restaurants and were clearly prepared by a chef that knows what quality looks and tastes like.

Excellent quality food. We are semi-regular customers and really enjoy eating here. I recommend the flat iron steak and the affogato.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch with excellent service. The beer was good. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. Would happily return to try something else from the interesting menu.

Awesome service for special dietary. I am coeliac and lactose intolerant. Never before have I been offered such choice, in each of the three courses. The quality and taste of the foos was exceptional. All the staff were very attentive, helpful, friendly and courteous. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Went to the Tap and Kitchen the other night and had a great time. The atmosphere was really nice and the food was incredible. Would definitely recommend going there. The staff all look after you and the whole trip was amazing

Lovely decor, knowledgeable staff and tasty food. I stayed inside, but their seem to have a lovely outside deck too. The food prep time was good too.

Been here multiple times and honestly knocks it out of the park every time. Really friendly environment and delicious food. My personal favourite is the scallops for starter and hanger steak for main!!

The meal was very good. However when we ordered coffees we were told that they needed the table back in 5 mins. We had been given 1.5 hours to have a Sunday lunch with Children. We only had 2’courses and were still rushed. I asked what would have happened if we’d had three courses and they informed us that we would have had to have moved to the bar. Won’t be going back for this reason.

My husband and I visited whilst staying in Oundle. The food did not disappoint, everything we ate was 10/10. The only downside was that after turning down dessert we were presented with the bill straight away. We were planning on having another drink but instead felt like they wanted rid of us.

First time we have stopped here to eat. We have often passed it whilst doing the Oundle Water Meadows walk. We were very fortunate to walk in on a late Sunday lunch and happened to get a table . We had the 2 courses for £27 . My daughter and husband had the Sunday dinner and paid extra for the cauliflower cheese and I had the vegetarian leek pasta (I can’t remember the posh name for it ) which was divine. Food was exquisite. Lovely vibe and very attentive staff. Will definitely be back.

Quite enjoyed our first visit last weekend I had a Salt Beef sandwich and my friend had a Prawn sandwich both were nice and served with freshly made chips, the Beef in particular had a very nice flavour. We both had a pint of the Gold Beer that is gluten free and brewed next door and we were both very impressed with it. The one thing that was annoying was the Tables they have a centre pole going down to a cross on the floor that is in the way of both your feet, I could not get my feet comfortable at all they did not fit inside or outside the frame they were just in the way and I could not relax and enjoy the meal. Perhaps the tops could be rotated forty five degrees so the base is between your feet and you can put a foot either side of it. Regards

My husband and I came during the summer and had the most wonderful meal. Service was excellent and the food was just delicious. The setting was absolutely lovely looking out over the river and bridge. What a beautiful place to be so chilled. Will come often I think.

We had our works xmas party here on Friday nite. There was about 30 of us and the restaurant was busy with other revellers so I thought the service would be a little slower with so many people. How wrong I was!!! The service and staff were fantastic. The food was awesomely delicious. Hereford Beef on Toast was hearty. Turkey n trimmings were succulent and xmas pudd was devine!!! Well done to all the staff at the TnK/NVB for making it a night to remember. Highly recommended 👌👍

Had a lovely evening at Tap and Kitchen, the venue is very nice, staffs are very friendly, helpful and approachable. Food wise, i enjoyed my steak, my husband in the other hand didnt enjoy his as its too chewy for him (medium rare). The manager is very professional and did something about it and we were very happy. The mac n cheese and the scallops are the best! The dessert its really feels like heaven.

First time at Oundle, and what a surprise to find this place. A very friendly atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. It's definitely a place to visit again. We had the hanger steak with ships, full of flavour, cooked to perfection... delicious!

First time we’ve eaten here. We were looking for lunch on our drive and this place came up on our search. How lucky were we. Excellent service and the pizzas were delicious. Wish we lived nearer, we’d eat here every week.

Excellent Restaurant, my partner and I had dinner last Saturday and were extremely pleased with the food and service. All topped with a lively atmosphere and great selection of beer. Would recommend to anyone and we'll definitely be back!

Shocking food... muscles not open more than half portion not edible and hanger steak ordered rare impossible to chew such a shame as it used to be one of our favourite places to eat ..asked for butter for bread but got apology instead of butter..won't be returning

Never had a bad experience here! I even buy gift vouchers for gifts for special occasions because it's such a treat.

I'm a dairy free customer so I realise I'm a bit of a pain. However, when we came in there was no one to greet us despite them not being particularly busy. We sat down and had to get up to ask someone for menus after 20minutes. Informed staff about my dairy free requirements which they said would be no issue. Starter arrived, beef Carpaccio which was good. However, considering I had no parmesan should have been seasoned by the kitchen which it wasnt. Main course was sea bream with lobster sauce. Except my sea bream was slightly overcooked and it didn't come with any lobster sauce as that had dairy in it. I think it's not a good sign that the kitchen didn't think to provide it with another sauce, perhaps the chimichurri the steak was served with. No one communicated about the lack of sauce before serving and because of this the whole dish was dry. On top of this the lardons were overcooked and pretty hard. I ate it because it was overall "okay" but looking back now I wish I hadnt and had sent it back. The chips tasted kind of stale also, I think the oil needed changing. I provided feedback at the end of the meal and was told the chef would be informed. No one came back to me with an apology or any clarification which was a missed opportunity. My partner's meal on the other hand was great, and his roast dinner was pretty good except that the Yorkshire pudding was overcooked. To the staffs credit they dealt with the storm particularly well and moved us inside quickly. The beer produced onsite was very enjoyable. But overall, we didn't have the best experience.

By far one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the county, we were lucky enough to snag a last minute table due to a no show (their loss) and start to finish, food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. Props to the Tap, the masters of consistently, and innovation! See you asap

Smashing place to go, went with my mother after a paddle down the river, food is amazing and the place looks great inside and out. Staff were very friendly

Paddled all the way here to get some food and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Unfortunately you cannot tie your paddle boards here anymore but you can find a way around it. We did not book and they sat us at a table as quickly as we arrived. The service was top notch and the set menus are delicious. Will be returning here no doubt.

I ordered a Chargrilled Chicken Caesar, while waiting the atmosphere was great. The problem with the staff was that they charged a tip without asking us beforehand. The food was mediocre but my problem with it is that I specially ordered it without anchovies but it still came with them in the meal. It seemed like a great place but the failed meal totally ruined my experience.

An excellent wedding anniversary lunch as a bit of a treat for us. We both love the menus and food at this excellent brewery tap and restaurant. It is always an interesting menu and superb beer choice. The food is well presented and served. Tasty too!! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and lingered over coffee and tea afterwards. The nearby brewery shop is open Friday and Saturday but check times online before you travel. The Tap & Kitchen can often fit you in as a walk-in but it is always best to book. Busy today, so we did right to book. Plenty of parking around Oundle Wharf, which seems to have been newly laid out but watch the entrance by the brewery, as it is a bit tight for two-way traffic. Well worth a visit. Nice bar area too! Lovely outdoor seating area and outdoor dining under cover, as well as plenty of room inside.

A real gem of a place with wonderfully creative food, imaginative vegetarian options, a terrific wine list and great service.

At least 5 stars, this was a welcoming, stylish, busy brewery tap cum kitchen with super, attentive, friendly staff who allowed us 12 a 4+ hour lunch without a murmur. Bar steward gave me a great take on the wonderful house bitter named "Release the Chimps" ( I kid you not! ). Very reasonably priced at £30 per head including 2 to 3 course lunch, several drinks each, cheerful service not faced by our many and varied individual choices. Extremely generous portion size. My scallop starter as a main dish and a side of Mac n cheese was tip top and all eaten with great pleasure. Loos superb. Car parking free, safe and easy to access. Yard area included excellent NVBrewery, terrific Amps wine shop and reputedly a v fine bakery too. So a real destination and one we shall return to more than once I suspect!

Lovely little spot away from the rat race, even when the weather is overcast. For a sunny day, lunching by the waterside would be glorious. Not the widest choice of food (a few more 'light bit' sandwich and/or cake options would be good) but everything sounds, looks and tastes great.
