Rose Tree Restaurant in Cotswold

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant for our evening meal. We tried the Rose Tree - it was busy and we had no reservation but the staff moved a few tables around and were able to fit us in. The place was very busy, but very friendly and cosy, the food was excellent and we had a really good evening.

Great food, lovely staff, nice venue and location, respectable pricing. Would recommend. We came with 2 young children and was fine

After a long hike through the countryside, we arrived in Bourton-on-the-Water. It's a pretty-as-a-postcard little town swarming with tourists, even in late September. With no real plans for lunch, we selected the Rose Tree Restaurant based almost solely on its lovely exterior alongside the River Windrush. With a light rain starting to fall, we elected to sit inside. It is a little cramped in there, and there was quite a wait for the small toilets, but we were seated quite comfortably. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. My wife had the old standby, fish & chips, and I ordered the Rose Tree Burger. Both were quite tasty. The prices were a bit high for what we got, but I do not think they were out of line with what one would see in any other restaurant in such a tourist destination. If you are fortunate enough to be in town on a sunny day, I recommend taking an outdoor table and watch the people and the river go by as you enjoy your meal.

The food excellent , we went back the next day and thought the same . Would highly recommend. Good value , service good , wine reasonable priced

Fantastic dinner! We came here for dinner one evening while doing a walking tour of the Cotswolds. From beginning to end, everything was terrific. We had pre-booked a table which was waiting for us on arrival. The setting was intimate but not crowded. We started by ordering a fine bottle of Malbec to go with our mains of the Lamb Shank and Slow Roasted Belly of Pork. Mains were delicious! Portions were good sized and more than adequate to satisfy us after walking 12 miles that day. They also came with delicious vegetable and potato accompaniments. For dessert, we had the warm chocolate brownie w/ice cream to share; also delicious. The restaurant was very aware of and accommodating to food allergies, particularly, gluten which is very important to us. Lastly, the service was awesome. We enjoyed meeting and talking to Monika (one of the owners) and found we had many things in common! Would highly recommend the Rose Tree!

Called here for evening meal after reading the good reviews. They opened at 6pm so we were lucky to be walking by at 6 and got a table inside to accommodate us and our 2 dogs. We had fish and chips and pie with mash and vegetables which were nice. All staff friendly and polite.

Stopped en route to Goodwood FOS. Just made the lunch time menu (thank you!). Nice selection of dishes. Options for vegans. Our choices (4 of us) all delicious and well prepared and cooked. Desserts likewise delicious. Lovely day to sit out and eat. Very friendly front of house team with a good knowledge of their dishes and able to make good recommendations. Fair prices and good portions too. What’s not to like? Recommend this restaurant unreservedly.

Barely any food in starter. Cost of ingredients was negligible. Main was Caesar salad with chicken. Dressing was horrible, bitter, excessive. Croutons are tiny and chicken tasteless. I couldn’t eat it. Waitress told me that it had crème fraiche which is not in a Caesar salad dressing. When I listed ingredient that should be she said I was describing nicoise which was incorrect. Insisting on being right she told me people come from all over fie the salad and asked me if I wanted another one. Stunned at her disrespect, righteousness and lack of service, I said ‘God no’ Thankfully she took it off the bill but insisted her husband was the chef and knew better than I. Shocking.

Was so hopeful of a good meal but very disappointing. Portion size was tiny. Vegetables were boiled without any seasoning and bland. Wine list is very limited. Head of front of house was rude and righteous. My wife’s starter was so tiny as to be nearly non existent and her main inedible. She then decided to tell my wife that her inedible main was my wife’s issue. Unbelievably stupid and indicative of a restaurant that happens to be based in a busy tourist spot that can get away with being poor. We certainly won’t be going back and we wouldn’t recommend anyone else to. Save yourself the pain.

Absolutely excellent. The food was delicious, the ambiance perfect and the staff were just lovely, very friendly but very professional. We ate here 2 nights over Easter. I would definitely recommend.

We reserved a table. Arrived to be seated in the rear room, in what appeared to be the family room. One child (and parents) extremely loud - I don't care how proud people are of their over-indulged child. The service was ok, had to wait a while while tables in the nicer main bar were tended to. Food so so, tasty but nothing special. My wife declined tartare sauce, but it arrived anyway. No draught beer, only rip-off bottles. vegetables were the hard side of al dente. After the noisy family left the other family gave their child some sort of tablet to play on - it was like sitting near an amusement arcade. Still, it went some way to distracting from the dreadful background music of interminable improvised piano and lounge jazz. I just wish we liked making a fuss, but we are too british.

A great find on a Sunday afternoon; had not booked. Charming location and interiors. Friendly staff. Great food. Only issues were the small portion of beef on my husband’s roast dinner (roast chicken dinner was better value for money), and our waitress brought the wrong ticket TWICE when it came time to pay our bill. We would still recommend this place, however, as the food was delicious and the service was good, despite the bill error.

Positives - the staff are all very friendly and polite. The steak, mushroom and kidney pie was delicious The duck liver & Cointreau parfait (though couldn’t taste the Cointreau) jam and salad was also delicious. Negatives - the veg was lukewarm. There were a few black fries. The two very small triangles of toasted brioche were nowhere near enough for the generous portion of pate - asked for some more - was brought another 2 small triangles - and was charged £1.20! No ambience. 10% service charge added automatically - we would always tip 10% ( or more) for good service but, personally, disagree with the automatic inclusion of it on the bill. Disappointing.

We took our son, daughter in law and granddaughter here, as we have been as a couple many times. Three had the belly pork which just melted in the mouth one had the sea bass which was tasty and one fish fingers with chips, lovely fresh fish in the fingers. For dessert four had the panacotta which was gorgeous and one the brownie which was yummy. Super food and good friendly atmosphere.

First visit to 'The Rose Tree' and extremely pleased that we went. From the lovely warm welcome, to the most exquisite Ploughmans I have ever had, plus even a GF version for my wife. Next came dessert and all on the menu could be provided GF{that in itself is such a rarity}. If you are visiting Bourton on the water, this restaurant is a must and the staff are a delight.

Faultless service and exceptionally well presented food. I would certainly recommend trying this place whilst in Bouton on the water.

Visited on a busy lunchtime and have nothing but praise for the service and the food. From the smiling welcome at the door to the prompt service and excellent tasty food I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant. Well done all!

Wonderful ambience in this quaint town. We loved the food and the service was excellent. We arrived as walk ins and were able to be seated but I would recommend making a reservation.

We had a lovely meal, the server was a lovely lady from Hungary who not only chatted (we wanted her to) about us but also recommended a trip. She was funny, with a great sense of humour. The restaurant isn't very big but we had plenty of room. Husband had the lamb shank, which he enjoyed and would recommend. I had the superb stilton and veg lasagne., which I fully recommend. Desserts were scrumptious and the irish coffee was the best I've had.

We had a fantastic meal at The Rose Tree. It was a tablecloth meal with the comfort of a pub and pub prices. The duck pate was a great starter. My wife loved the sea bass in prawn & caper butter while I had the slow roasted pork belly over mashed potato with blood pudding, fried sage fritter, and apple au jus. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The end was of course sticky toffee pudding, which they did a great job with. This is an incredible restaurant.

We booked this restaurant for evening meal having eaten there a few years ago and loved it. Arrived at 6pm verb cold in the restaurant, 1 degree outside, no radiators on just x couple IV oil heater plugged in, asked if heat could be put in and told it was maximum temperature, the radiators were freezing cold .was offered another table upstairs. Bizarrely the radiators were warm but not a nice ambience up there. As they refused to put on the radiators downstairs we left.
