The best restaurants serving British food in England

We called in as we were passing through stunning Treflach and had a lovely Sunday lunch today. The bar staff were absolutely lovely, engaging, efficient, funny and attentive. Becky in particular was a credit to the establishment. The Sunday roast was very good, with good portion sizes and plenty gravy although the yorkshire pudding was a challenge. Me and Mrs R shared a desert (Black Forest Gateaux with cream) which was delicious. Prices were reasonable too. A nice stop on my favourite route out of Oswestry. Recommended.

What a hidden gem! Fantastic food and amazing service! Staff were really friendly and the food was good pub food dive superbly. Rare to find a pub that does simple food really well.

We visited the pub for 3 evening meals in a week and everything was outstanding! We were staying close by and after our first evening meal we were hooked. We can thoroughly recommend the Pork Chop - all 24 oz of it! , Rib Eye Steak, Beef Bourguignon and the Pork Belly. If you love home cooked food and have a big appetite this is the pub for you. The staff are all so welcoming and attentive and the Locals Dogs are just as friendly!

Family stay in fownhope and went to the new in for Sunday lunch. Simply to say it was the Sunday lunch you remember from your childhood. 4 of us had Sunday lunch and everything was perfect, I had the roast beef, tender as hell, roast potatoes, Cauli cheese ( best I have ever had), fresh veg and giant yorkie. Pudding was homemade apple crumble and was just the perfect end to the meal. The owner Sandra was welcoming and friendly and we felt that we were regulars. If you are in the area anytime do your taste buds a favour and nip in for a traditional homemade Sunday lunch.

I visited Little Channels to try their valentines afternoon tea and was definitely not disappointed. A really affordable treat at only £25 per person (£5pp deposit required when booking). We were served an extensive selection of savouries which included a quiche, sausage roll, and sandwiches of coronation chicken, ham & cheese, and tuna & cucumber. The chicken one was served in focaccia bread which made a nice difference to traditional finger sandwiches that you usually get with afternoon tea. The scones were huge and warm so a good sign of being freshly baked! The sweet treats included a mini Victoria sponge cake, a heart shaped chocolate brownie and a chocolate covered strawberry. I feel like that was the perfect amount without getting too full. I feel like this was spot on for the money and both quality and quantity of food. The service was also the perfect mix of attentiveness and friendliness. Would recommend.

We loved it..the beef brisket was amazing as was the pork dish...ranks very high as my all time favourite sunday lunch..can't be faulted in all area's.

Un gran pequeño café era bolsas de historia. Gran té, gran café y nunca tuvo algo malo en el menú. El personal es siempre acogedor y muy eficiente, incluso en un servicio ocupado. Admite perros con un ambiente agradable. Podría ayudar a resolver la condensación pero una pequeña queja.

NO vayas aquí a cenar asado. Que (Terrible) Salón de Té era una broma absoluta. Olvídese de una espera de 15 minutos para el agua del grifo, o incluso la espera de 40 minutos para la "comida" - No anuncie Sunday Roast si no lo es. Carne fría y viscosa servida con un pudín de yorkshire seco, 2 papas asadas y una "selección" de verduras al vapor y puré de papas grasoso. Salimos antes de intentar consumir lo que nos habían dado. TAN pobre. No hay problema con los servidores, no es su culpa - pero por Dios parecían muy fuera de su profundidad. Cíñete a pasteles y bocadillos.

Quality meal, well presented and of excellent value coupled with fine ingredients with great service from the landlord to the waitress. Highly recommended, I can imagine the fish night is superb.

What a brilliant cafe. Stopped for a coffee but when we saw the breakfasts coming out we decided to treat ourselves. Quality ingredients, well cooked and exceptional service with a smile. Dogs also well treated!! thank you

Well we have waited over a year to visit and it was certainly worth it . Great food, super friendly staff and a great outdoor eating space. Will definitely be back.

The Lorna Doone is a really nice and quaint inn. Our hosts there were very friendly and helpful. We stayed two very comfortable nights while we explored Porlock and Lynton. We also had a delicious dinner there. We highly recommend both Porlock and the Lorna Doone!

This is a superb cafe, with a good selection of reasonably-priced food. The cooking is excellent and the service prompt. But there are no vegan options that I could see and only a couple of vegetarian choices. This is a real shame; they are really missing a trick here, as increasing numbers of people are now on plant-based diets. We saw two couples walk away today having read the outside menu, saying 'nothing for us'. Shame.
