Fantastic Breakfast of mushrooms on toast - lovely big portions, lovely bread used for toast, great coffee too, friendly staff and dogs welcome

We so enjoyed the coffee so much on our first visit we went back and it was just as good. Central location and very convenient after some shopping in the centre., a well presented place to be with lovely staff. Didn’t take advantage of the menu but will next time , and the cakes look tempting and delicious, why am I always on a diet!

Proper coffee, served well. In a town that seems to be nothing but coffee shops, it's a delight to find one that really knows how to do it well. A really tasty flat white for me and a decent decaf for my friend and topped it off with a lemon pistachio slice that was delicious Great service with a smile and a lovely atmosphere all round. There's a new Starbucks opening in town soon but please don't waste your money on the corporate beans, support the local business and have a significantly superior coffee break.

Friendly, efficient staff. Had light lunch of homemade tomato and basil soup with roll and butter, very tasty. Also quiche salad and crisps also very tasty. Coffee excellent and great choice of teas. Definitely recommend.

Looking for a place for breakfast and we were drawn to this splendid looking café. A wonderful original and expansive shop front. Beautifully refurbished interior and you could be in a cool part of an upmarket town. Great food and coffee. Doggy friendly. The crew weren't so bad either. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Absolutely first class here. We have started going at least 2-3 times a month (we don’t live locally). We have had different things from the menu - this time we had the chicken and pesto sandwich on ciabatta which was one of the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. These guys are always friendly and it’s always clean. It’s good food done well

Tonnes of options for coffee in Scarborough but don’t even bother going anywhere else. These guys are where it’s at. Great vibe. Really warm and friendly staff. Dog friendly. Locally produced coffee. Not much you can ask for to be honest. We didn’t eat but i had food envy for my whole visit looking at other tables. Shout out to the friendly fella ( didn’t get his name but has wicked sleeve tattoo) who worked there that took the time to ask where we were from and give our dog a few treats. Such a small simple touch but not being from the local area made us feel right at home and welcome. Other cafes/bars could definitely learn a thing or two from this place. Their coffee was top class too. Even Grabbed a bag to take home with us. 1000% would recommend

I have been regularly coming to Greensmith coffee shop since I came home to Scarborough four years ago. I return here time and time again because the coffee is consistently of a high quality, always served promptly even when busy, the cakes and scones are incredible and the cafe itself is just beautiful and always bustling. I would direct anyone here -it is certain that the coffee is always fantastic. A little gem of a coffee shop that needs to be visited.

Lovely cup of coffee.... Dreadful porridge, not cooked, just partly cooked oats in the bottom of a bowl of hot milk. Limp lack lustre salad garnish...the usual bag of mixed, slightly over their best, leaves with cherry tomato halves and cucumber. Great for brownie and coffee but I wouldn't go again for food

I first discovered Greensmith's, not long after they opened, on a bitterly cold early Spring day. Their attractive frontage caught my eye, but the interior is just as pleasant. The service is always friendly, the Northwoods coffee good, and they do some excellent cakes, some of which are vegan. The food menu is fairly short, but I have had some nice soups here. However, I was unimpressed with the mushroom on toast I had on my most recent visit. There was no mention of rocket being part of this dish, and while I am in no way averse to rocket, the dish arrived, completely covered in the stuff. I took a bite, but couldn't taste the mushrooms, so I decided to remove some of the rocket. As I began to do so, I couldn't find any mushrooms, so I kept on until all the rocket was on the side of the plate. You can see what this revealed from my photo, 2 dry-tasting pieces of sourdough, with barely any mushrooms. They are just common or garden mushrooms, not truffles, couldn't I have a few more for £6.50 please?

In Scarborough for the day and were looking for a place to eat lunch, that was away from the sea front. We came across this place by accident (next to M&S) and were surprised. Lovely little cafe, good menu choices and hot drinks. Staff friendly and food was tasty. I’d recommend this place if I return to Scarborough.

Excellent coffee which was lovely and strong. The Portuguese custard tart very yummy indeed. Could have eaten many things from the counter. Very knowledgeable staff too.

Scarborough would benefit from more places like Greensmith. A friendly welcome in a clean, uncrowded and relaxed environment. Service efficient and professional. Coffee exceptional (Cappuccino). Food (Avocado on Sourdough with Bacon), good portion, fresh and well presented. Keep up the good work guys.

Amazing place to go. The menu isn’t particularly extensive but the quality is excellent. The cakes are delicious and fresh. For those that love a coffee that is also excellent. The iced latte was one of the best I have ever had. The staff were really friendly and helped with sorting us a highchair.

This place looks really attractive from the outside so we thought we should give it a try. The menu is limited but suited us well and we went for ciabattas with different fillings. The food was really excellent, well presented and plentiful and the service and decor were both great. Overall a very good lunch

First time in this cafe and what a lovely cafe :) The bench seats are so comfortable and the staff are so kind and friendly. As I am disabled I’m always a bit nervous of trying new venues but this was so relaxing. I got there early before my friend was due and it was busy but flowed. I didn’t see if there was a downstairs disabled bathroom but my friend went to the loo which seemed to be upstairs. My friend treated me to brunch and we had a good catch up. I had porridge and blueberries with honey… it was amazingly good and she had tea loaf and also enjoyed it. I would love the Management to know that ALL the Sysff working that day were kind, helpful and very friendly and seemed happy in their work and as a team which is lovely to see, as a customer 🙏🏻👍🏻✨

Quality and good price is what you get here,staff really good,food selection good ,decor nice with some local artist prints for sale,usual sandwiches,teas and coffees.Theres an upstairs aswell but haven't had to go up there yet. Could do with a bigger selection of cakes but otherwise spot on for a cafe.

We wanted a light lunch and this venue did not disappoint. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options at a reasonable price. I had a cheese and onion muffin, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also had a pomegranate and goji berry 'tea', which was refreshing.

We were a large group with 3 dogs, staff were brilliant they moved tables to accommodate us. Really nice coffee and sandwiches too. Even had a gluten free option.

Having just arrived in Scarborough we nipped in here for tea/coffee and cake. Welcome staff who updated us with latest Covid instructions and looked after us well. Great coffee said the wife and I enjoyed my Victoria sandwich slice.

We had bacon ciabatta and coffee for breakfast. The breakfast menu is fairly small but the coffee selection is good. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

We stumbled across this cafe and what a find! Super friendly staff made us feel at ease with social distancing and spaced out tables done to perfection. The food (Bacon&Brie Ciabatta and the Moroccan Chicken Stew) was beautiful; only a shame we had no room for the tempting cakes on display! The cafe is dog friendly and the staff made a fuss of our dog so he loved it too! Would definitely recommend.

Lovely coffee, delicious sandwiches, and cake. Stopped for a quick bite, and ended up staying for more given how nice the food and drinks were. We had coffees, and tea which were all very nice. Soup, toasties, ciabatta sandwiches. My 6yr old is a fussy eater and didn’t fancy anything off the menu, but the staff were very accommodating and made him a plate which made him feel very welcome.Ordered the Portuguese custard tart and Victoria sponge to take away which were amazing.

Both my wife and I along with our baby daughter had lunch here on Monday 3rd August. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome by the warm and attentative staff. Lovely coffee and sandwiches in an historic building. Credit to the staff for being so warm and friendly.

Fantastic place! We visited with our baby and we were made to feel really welcome. We had mocha, hot chocolate and something from the light bites each day everything was fab. We even took some cakes as takeaway for the beach. The place was exceptionally clean with staff making sure every table was thoroughly clean after each use. Great place and we’ll definitely visit again if we’re in Scarborough.

Behind the period frontage this place feels very Hygge in a good way. On the recommended list at our Airbnb we decided to give it a try for a late lunch. The coffee, reputed to be the best in Scarborough, did not disappoint where many do. Cappuccino was strong and cappuccino frothy, just the way I like it. My partner had a smoked salmon bagel and reported it excellent. I opted for the chicken bacon pesto club sandwich on ciabatta and thoroughly enjoyed it. Both came accompanied by a bowl of mixed crisps and a mixed leaf salad. Whilst you order and pay at the counter service delivery of drinks and food was fast efficient and friendly. The question, would I return? The answer, absolutely, highly recommended.

Called in for an Americano and flat white, plus babychino! Couldn't resist a scone and toasted tea loaf either... Coffee was nice and strong, tea loaf was delicious. Scone a little small and dry but still tasty.

Greensmiths cafe, started life as Geensmith and Thackeray, a historic Scarborough high end gents colonial outfitters. Under new ownership, the site has been tastefully redeveloped as a good quality cafe. The decor is nice, some comfortable seating and very pleasant and attentive staff. My wife and I both had a latte and cake. I have to say that the latte was probably the best we have had for a long time. Only criticism is that the cake was expensive for the portion size. Unless I missed it there doesn't appear to be any wifi available here, but I got a strong free signal from the nearby Mark's & Spencer store, lol. However, we will definitely go back again for the laid back relaxing environment and coffee.

Coffee ,tea whatever is so nice here . Great atmosphere with a nice décor and staff to match . Coffees were brill and we ventured forth with a paninnii which was really good . first port of call when we come to Scarborough

Visited this lovely cafe on a warm autumn day with a friend. We decided to have lunch after reading the menu. I ordered crust less quiche with couscous, coleslaw and salad. It was really fresh, nicely presented, tasty and good value. We had Americans which we decided were the best we had tasted in quite some time. The bill for both of us was £16, excellent value. Well worth revisiting.

Coffee n tea are so nice and the food looks good too . Everywhere is clean n nice including the toilets lol . Staff were "Bang On " say no more .

I discovered Greensmith & Thackway last year and made sure to visit a couple of times this year. Their coffee is absolutely exceptional and a place I would recommend to anyone who loves or enjoys coffee. I enjoyed a flat white made to perfection and my dad remarked the same thoughts as myself, we haven't had better. The staff are always friendly and the coffee and cakes are brilliant. Fully deserving of the 5 stars!

Our son came to visit us for the day. After a nice meal in Pizza Express we walked up to town and had drinks at Greensmith and Thackery. Nice relaxed atmosphere and good service. Worth a visit.

I’d gone for coffee but then saw someone else’s lunch. I had a falafel salad with toasted pita bread. Never had anything like it. Every mouthful was delicious. Got very busy during lunchtime.

Having visited G&T; on previous visits to Scarborough we just had to visit again. Surprised and delighted to find these lovely little Portugese custards on sale. Very nice too. As before nice premises, staff and background music.

This is a superb coffee shop/ cafe close to the town centre. It has excellent coffee and when we went, a great selection of fresh cakes. The menu also looked great though we went mid-afternoon.

Inspired to visit twice today- firstly for a lovely coffee and slice of cake, secondly for an evening cocktail. Coffee could be more flavourful/stronger, however is more reasonably priced than many of its competitors. Cake was absolutely delicious and could have been tempted by a second slice. Cocktails were beautifully presented and they certainly didn’t skimp on the alcohol content

Although somewhat lacking in atmosphere,for a centre town eatery it's reasonable. The staff are pleasant, the food good. A spot to take a friend when meeting in town.

Popped in here last week just for a coffee. The cappuccinos were one of the best we have ever had, and that includes Italy they were really superb.

Have been in here a few times before and remember it as being ok, but in the occasion my latte tasted only of milk, almost as though they had forgotten to put the coffee in. I should have complained, but was in a hurry so just left it.

The place is great from the furniture, style and the atmosphere, thought has gone into the creation of the place. Staff polite and helpful, giving a good service. The food was great, can certainly recommend the scones and hot chocolate, easy, relaxing place to sit and watch the world go by.

Came here with friends and the food was really nice. Lots of space inside for seating and great selection of food. I had avocado, bacon, and feta on toast, which was a lovely light lunch. One of my friends had the Moroccan stew and it had amazing flavours. Lovely selection of cakes - had the ginger, lemon, and turmeric cake, which I would definitely have again. Only issue was my food didn't come with the rest and it must've been missed off the order even though they'd taken my drink correctly - only had to wait a short amount of time though and the waiter checked as soon as he realised there was 1 less meal for the number of people.

Loved the Moroccan stew with real quick service, perfect for helping get rid of a cold cost about £7. Has a real shabby chic style throughout and was a real standout place for me.

I love this place, I’ve been a few times now and it’s always perfect. The food, the coffee, the staff, the decor everything. It’s my favourite place to eat through the day in Scarborough. If you like cool modern food then I recommend this place 10/10

After getting lost in the wrong end of Scarborough with nothing but fish & chips and burger shops we were chuffed to find this place. Welcoming staff and excellent coffee.- and a very varied menu at reasonable prices. We opted for the soup each and shared a tuna panini. All very tasty and with the coffees around £20.

I visited here with my partner, our daughter and both of my parents. We had the pram with us but there was plenty of room and many other families in there also.

After trundling around Whitby and Scarborough for a few days, we had noticed how hard it was to get a really good cup of coffee. Then turning a corner we happened on this place. A really nice place to chill and the food looked good too. We even bought some of their beans to grind at home. We will be back Monday or Tuesday. Friendly staff too.

I have walked by Greensmith & Thackwray on many occasion but today was my first visit. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We ordered drinks and sandwiches. They arrived promptly and well presented. Really good portions - to the extent that I could only eat half of my meal but that wasn't a problem as the staff kindly sent me home with my sandwich nicely packed in a little bag. There is further seating upstairs too. I remember the building when it was a "Gentleman's Outfitters" . It was made up of little rooms over the two floors. The building is still as quirky and a lot of the original features have been retained.

We found this place by chance around from our hotel and thought it looked nice from the outside. We certainly were not disappointed when we went for breakfast. To start this place is immaculately clean and the staff are really pleasant. We both went for the poached eggs that were deliciously runny as they should be.

Stopped off here whilst in town for the best coffee I’ve had of my holiday. My parents thoroughly enjoyed their coffee and cake (caramel slice and lemon polenta) Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again or recommend to anyone. The full 5 stars!

First time in here because I didn’t know it was there, coffee was very good nice and strong just how i like it, brother in law had tea made with tea leaves not a tea bag with a small timer on the tray so he could let it infuse, nice touch I thought.

The availability of home made cake caught the attention of my wife and evidently it was very good. Before she got to the cake though we each had an excellent freshly made sandwich, both choosing vegetarian options although there are ones which include meat.

Have visited here a few times, usually very busy, the food is delicious and the service very good, would recommend a visit.

As per my previous review we did come back here. Three visits in three days. My only experience of eating here was to take a croissant with my coffee on one occasion. I love the original façade contrasting with the contemporary interior. Great coffee in nice surroundings served by staff who seem to care about what they are doing. Listen carefully and there is "eclectic" music playing in the background.

Just popped in for a flat white whilst waiting for my car in for a service. Found this place online and it's a gem. Well located in a shop which was once colonial outfitters (see the original shop front) the coffee is outstanding as are the cakes. It is exceptional value for money. Why would you visit Costa round the corner which is more expensive, crowded and chaotic - this is a spacious, calm haven. Great music and pleasant service make this a must for visiting coffee connoisseur. Support independent and local is my motto and by giving your custom to this establishment you will be a winner and so will thwy.

We missed out on visiting last time we were in Scarborough as they weren’t open on the Sunday. Made a beeline for it this time and were not disappointed. Coffee lovingly brewed and served. Also decided to have the spring greens soup. Didn’t disappoint either. Will b e our first stop anytime we are in town.

Amazing quality healthy food at bargain prices! Come from Edinburgh to Scarborough for a week's holiday to catch up with Nana and I found the prices very reasonable! In edinburgh we have to pay over £2.50 for a quality coffee!

I've only bought teas and coffees here but it's an excellent choice if you prefer indie; fine leaf teas, great coffees and a beautiful selection of cakes; spacious premises and good staff. I'll be back in future.

We’ve been here on at least 6 occasions, always loved the service and the presentation of the food. The food was also amazing, the best tuna ciabatta I’ve ever had.

Return visit for lunch on a changeable weather day, it had just started to rain lightly when we entered. We'd had the chicken ciabatta before, this time they were more like a toasted club one, with pesto mayo, rocket, chicken + bacon, these were very nice too, served with salad & veg crisps. Pot of tea & a coke were the drinks of choice. While we dined, the rain poured heavily, but eased off by the time we were leaving, A good lunch and shelter from the inclement weather, the staff are efficient and unobtrusive.

At a stroke you have reduced the decent places in Scarborough for lunc from two to one! Eat Me remains! By removing your menu of interesting hot and cold dishes to just providing sandwiches you have decimated choice. It may have been done to increase speed of serving, but has resulted in many angry customers. At the four tables around us, all were dissatisfied. One couple leaving, and the other just ordering coffee. Please reconsider. You were one of the bright spots in a meagre Scarborough culinary scene.

Pleasant ambience. Very pleasant and prompt service. Cakes all baked on the premises and looked excellent, but did not sample.

Tasty bacon and brie sandwich washed down with excellent coffee and summer fruit muffin. My partner had the winter stew which was very nice indeed. Good service too.

The coffee in this place is really good - proper speciality coffee. There is a particularly enjoyable atmosphere on Friday/Saturday nights, with good cocktails. However, I tried the pancakes, and given the vibe this place gives and the cost of £5.75 I really thought they would be freshly cooked and fluffy, but they were awful - tasted like they were from a packet. If you like the pancakes they serve in Wetherspoon but for double the cost then go nuts. If I was rating on coffee alone I would give 5 stars. Shame.
