Clark's Restaurant in Scarborough

Such a shame, this restaurant was fabulous. Great staff, amazing food, never failed to impress. Wishing you all the best in the future. We are gutted we couldn’t visit before you close.

Booked a table in person for 2 at 8.20pm and arrived at 8.30pm (friend was dealing with GCSE result fall out on his phone) - website says last food orders at 9pm so we felt assured that we could walk not run. On arrival we were told “chef has stopped cooking now” - they are of course at liberty to serve who or when they wish but this seems slightly high handed. We were there the previous year during cricket week and the food was fine. On that occasion we wanted a table for eight but were advised we needed to pre-order food for eight so opted for two tables of four in the small but nearly empty restaurant. I wish Clark’s well in these straightened times but this sort of ridiculous divaish behaviour does them no favours and has cost them our business.

We met with my husband and son and we had a spectacular dinner. Very fresh and well cooked fish, with great delicacy. Very friendly and professional staff, and very pleasant place (lighting, background music). Highly recommended for those looking for high-quality cuisine and a pleasant place.

What a resteraunt. Food exquisit. Staff ever helpful.Wonderful front of house. Chef convivial. Why go anywhere else. Winter menu a delight. Go during the week to avoid rush at weekend. Pleasant surroundings what's not to like.

Staff were very nice and friendly. The food was very nice, my partner said the steak was best they'd had. It was however on the pricey side, £1 for a splash of lime in lemonade. A 3 course meal for 2 with no alcoholic drinks was £130. Not mega expensive but more than would be expected.

We was looking forward to our meal tonight with it being one of the top rated restaurant in Scarborough. Sadly the starter was a bit of a let down.Dry bread and the seaweed butter, was quite tasteless. Our mains came. Nicely presented, the roasted belly pork was small and not roasted as it was described on their menu. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection, but it was wrapped in bacon, that look anaemic and not crispy at all...very disappointing to say the price they charged. We voiced our views across to the staff, who didn't seem bothered and they still added a 12% service charge !!

A special day deserves some very special food. Wife booked a table as a surprise for fathers day,absolutely perfect. I ordered the half Lobster,so juicy and fresh. Lobsters are local and landed on the pier. Only the freshest and local ingredients used where possible. Tried a bit of my sons slow roasted beef brisket,just falling apart,so soft and melt in your mouth. My wife & daughter ordered the belly pork which was absolutely delicious as well,so soft and moist. Even better they now serve a children's size roast dinner. Thank you Rob & team for such a fantastic dining experience 👏

Had a great 50th birthday celebration with 17 people and the team were very accommodating for such a big group and everyone of us said the food was excellent - especially the steaks!

We were a group of 13 diners, and everyone enjoyed their meal very much. All courses were presented with great finesse and tasted delicious. Very knowledgeable staff, and a chef who obviously knows how to prepare excellent food for his customers. A gem of a restaurant.

Excellent restuarant. Food is first class, local produce prepared by the owner/chef. Have visited a number of times when in Scarborough and have always had great food and service. Good value for money. Will be back.

Visited on Friday 19th and enjoyed a fabulous meal of seafood cocktail / squid starters, belly perk and steak for mains and cheese board and ice cream deserts. Food delicious and well presented - Waitress was lovely. Enjoyed so much - booked again for later in the week with my Mother - again delicious food and good service - so good we have booked again for later in the week. A good find for dining in Scarborough.

We visited on the evening 18th April, party of 5. Choice of superbly cooked and presented food and excellent, friendly service. We will be returning.

Two steaks very good but salad non existent and chips were awful, tasted like reheated potato skins. Glass of wine and a coke so was stunned with circa £99 bill. Had service charge removed. Won't be going back.

We just wanted to say it was definitely worth the 8 hour round trip to Scarborough to have Sunday roast at Clark's Restaurant! The starters got eaten up to quick before I was able to take a photo (the squid it’s amazing) Keep doing what you are doing, wonderful Front of house service from Rebecca Cross and the chefs pretty good too 😃😃😃. We’ll be back at some point ⛵️

This was a long planned visit , we had read reviews and we were not disappointed, if anything the reviews do not do justice to this gem, a continental style bistro, local food well prepared and cooked , served with generosity and warmth. We were greeted and made to feel welcome by a wonderful waitress. The evening menu is a la carte , plus a special ‘s board. Tonight we had moules marinere , and Crispy Salt & Pepper Squid, with Wasabi Mayonnaise, and Coriander & Lime . Our mains were the North Sea Cod, ‘Cullen Skink’ buttered spinach, melting Scarborough seaweed butter and Yorkshire Wold chicken breast wrapped in smoked bacon , with black truffled mashed potatoes and a Diane sauce. The food was (is) excellent, both the cooking and the exceptionally high standard of the source produce. The service was excellent, the waitress making truly great cocktails. This is a great restaurant if we lived here we’d be regulars, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

We visited on a Friday evening. We had squid, goats cheese croquette and risotto as starters and all 3 were delicious and presented beautifully. We then had Cod in a butter sauce and Pork Belly as mains. Beautifully cooked and really enjoyed it. The portions are smaller so if hungry recommend a side dish to accompany your main. We had cheese board and cheesecake for desert. Really high standard of produce, food, definitely recommend, up there with one of best meals in Scarborough

Called in last minute at 5.30pm to ask if they could fit us while our daughter was at rehearsals a few doors down at the church hall. Managed to fit us last minute which was perfect. For starters we ordered the Chicken Liver & Brandy Pâte, Red Onion Marmalade, Roasted Cracked Brazil Nuts, Toasted French Brioche £9.00 and the Crispy Salt & Pepper Squid, Wasabi Mayonnaise, Coriander & Lime £10.50 Absolutely perfect,the squid still nice,soft,moist and not chewy. The wife's pate was smooth and full of flavour,the perfect accompaniment to the toasted French brioche. For mains I ordered Sirloin Steak, Yorkshire Reared 28 Day-aged Beef, Triple Cooked Chips, Wild Rocket & Parmesan £30.00 Melt in your mouth steak,buttery,I had mine cooked to medium which was absolutely perfect 👌 The wife ordered Yorkshire Crispy Pork Belly, Green Lentil & Local Root Vegetable Broth, Buttered Winter Kale £21.00 Cooked to perfection,fantastic flavours and the pork belly was deliciously Crispy 😋 You cannot visit Scarborough without visiting this gem of a restaurant creating fantastic flavours from some amazing local produce. Had Sunday lunch here, bit disappointed I was asked if any food intolerances which I stated one of us were, no allowances were catered for. No Yorkshire pudding, no bread , so other than the gravy why ask.! The food we had was very nice but, I left hungry. No much ambience either. Parking a nightmare meter didn’t work,or the app to pay online parking. Sorry but only being honest! The waitress was lovely.

This was our second visit to Clark's, our first visit was back in 2022. Thankfully the standard of food and service has remained high, we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The pork belly was the standout dish for our group, everyone thought it was excellent. Fish dishes were also good and we enjoyed the gin and tonics, the rhubarb gin was especially memorable. We also enjoyed a lovely bottle of petit chablis. In a town awash with absolutely awful restaurants serving fried frozen food (except for the decent fish and chips and curry), good food is hard to come by. Clark's is a desperately needed change for Scarborough - fresh, top quality ingredients, well prepared and served in a comfortable restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Visited today with my husband. Outstanding.cuisine and service! Had the Sunday lunch option with cocktails and a lovely bottle of Malbec. Will definiately be back and would highly recommend.

Eating here is not just about having a wonderful meal but experiencing a joyful event. Wonderful food and service. My husband had the belly pork which I tried and it tasted delicious. I had the sea bass which was divine. It’s an unpretentious restaurant serving superb food. We will definitely return.

Cold inside at 7pm. Cushions given for chairs as they were hard wood! Food nice but Lanterna the night before was much better. Slightly rushed service. Hadn’t chosen food and / or drinks when asked. I still had the menu in my hand! Nice manner to waiting though. Overall for £91 for only two courses and a gin each, it felt pricey and neither of us had the steak! 12.5% tip (£10) we paid but this should be added automatically for tables of 4 or more, not a table for two. Just a thought.

Lovely meal. Best food we ate in Scarborough by some margin. Tasty fresh food and great wine. Friendly efficient service. And a familiar face from a well-known comedy TV series made for an interesting additional twist to a super evening.

This was our second visit and it disappoint. From the moment you step in staff make you feel welcome and taken care of. The menu has changed since last time, we had locally baked bread with seaweed (a must whilst visiting the seaside) and fillet steak which I must admit was incredible, my wife had cod which she said was beautiful. This restaurant clearly cares about local produce. If we lived closer we be regulars!

Nothing special really. Owner Rob Clark is quite fond of himself, bragging loudly. He spoke to the only other two tables but ignored us. Food is overpriced. Only a part time business.

We visited on a cold wet miserable summer night. Clark's provided a great antidote to the British weather. Service was great; food quality, presentation and taste were amazing. This is Michelin star cooking at a sensible price. Next time I'm in Scarborough it will be the first place I book.

It's just what was promised on web site. Top class service ,with a smile . Food came on time and was so tasty, looked so well presented and served at the right temperature. What we really liked ,is all foods are from local traders . I would recommend to all . 5 stars .

We had dinner for our 30th wedding anniversary celebration. Rob and his team made us welcome and attentive from the second we came in to the end of the meal. The food was excellent, hence a 5-star review.

This is a superb restaurant, wonderful food, in fact out of this world food. Superb service, really friendly and helpful. The ambience is lovely, relaxed dining with a touch of class. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!!!

The absolute gem of Scarborough. Without a shadow of doubt the best fillet steak I've ever had anywhere in the world. The whole meal was amazing, better than Michelin Star restaurants we've been to.

Stunning little restaurant and very friendly staff. I recommend to start with bread box , it's delicious. Salmon gravadlax for a starter -you won't regret it. East coast lobster for main - perfection!

Found this little place whilst exploring Scarborough. Booked in for an evening meal. Staff accommodating and professional in their approach. Good food and excellent wine. Made a great change to some of the chain restaurants that are ever present on the high street. This is off the main street and well worth a visit.

My partner and I had an amazing dining experience on Friday, I had the mushroom pearl barley risotto which had an incredible flavour and the Mrs had squid which she really enjoyed, 2 half lobsters for our mains which were excellent, super fresh and cooked to perfection, cheesecake for dessert which we both shared. Excellent service for the girls of front of house which took great care of us. We’ll back the next time we’re in Scarborough!

We dined last night as we were staying locally and wanted a nice meal for our anniversary. We looked at a menu on trip advisor and decided we liked the options so booked. Unfortunately the menu had changed and little appealed to us with exception of the steak which we both opted for. The fillet was nice, very tender although not especially tasty and slightly over cooked for my liking. Athena triple cooked chips were nothing more than frozen chips- I don’t doubt that they had been fried 3 times- but not what I expected given the £44 price. I always leave a tip and was happy to do so last night too but disapprove the 12.5% automatically being added to the bill, as a customer it should be our discretion to leave a tip. Overall an ok meal, nothing special and certainly not worthy of the prices - we wouldn’t return

I made a reservation online and paid a £30 deposit but unfortunately when l arrived at the restaurant they didn’t have my reservation. I produced my confirmation email thinking l would at least get an apology but nothing. I asked to speak with the manager who was downstairs cooking but he never showed. Despite this setback they had a spare table and l enjoyed my meal.

The dark haired waitress was so incredibly rude she ruined my sisters 60th birthday. Our table was by the window and it was so cold and windy our eyes were watering, she delighted in telling us we were not allowed to close the window or move tables, despite two tables remaining empty the whole night. Her obnoxious attitude reached unbelievable levels when she point blank refused to take a photo of our party as she was too busy clearing away one empty wine bottle!! We shall not be returning.

Very disappointing experience which should have been a special occasion to celebrate a big birthday. Our party of 6 were seated directly under an open window where it was draughty and distinctly chilly. We were told we could not close the window, even partially. Neither could we move to another table despite two tables remaining free all evening. The dark-haired waitress was not just unhelpful but downright rude. She refused even to take a photo for us because ‘too busy’. The food was adequate but vastly overpriced. My half lobster was no more than 2 mouthfuls with a small dish of chips for £32. The squid starter looked like it had come straight out of an Iceland packet. Had we not been a party of 6 which would have made it difficult to find another restaurant on a Saturday night we would simply have left. As it was, the evening was spoiled by the hostile service. (The fair-haired waitress by contrast was lovely). The prices and the website imply this is a fine dining restaurant. The service and the quality of food fall far short of this. We will not return.

we were so looking forward to a special meal, but went home Terribly disappointed. As we sat down the table opposite us were complaining and left after their abandoned starters! We just thought they must have been fussy, and excitedly waited for ours to arrive. For starter I had the risotto which wasn't as described , after one mouthful I left it, my husband tryed it and he too agreed it wasn't very nice. For mains we both had lobster , my first time and very disappointed, I said to my husband was it ment to be chewy, besides the fact there were 4 mouthfuls for your £30 chips looked like they were frozen, nothing like the photos of triple cooked chips advertised, my husband had warm beer, and I'm not sure what I had but it should have been lemonade! We went to pay and politely and quietly said we had been really disappointed and dissatisfied we really aren't ones for complaining but the bill was just short of £100 !! We payed and left as our comment's had gone on one ear and out the other! On the way back to the car I really wasn't happy ,so went back and was gobsmacked to have one of the waitresses say well you choose what you wanted to eat and said to the other lass, oh you deal with her and walked off.

Disappointed dissatisfied, had squid starter and my wife had mushroom risotto, the squid was average tasteless and over cooked nothing special, wife had one mouthful of risotto again not good had a weird texture and didn’t taste much of mushrooms more like garlic. Had half lobster each at £30 a plate was about 4 mouthfuls and over cooked rubbery texture, also triple cooked chips looked Like they had been bought fresh from Lidl that day. Beer was warm and my wife ordered lemonade which god knows what it was but didn’t taste like lemonade. Complaints fell on deff ears still charged full price. We are local people and will definitely not bother again and make sure we tell anyone that asks to save there hard earned money, was average at best with top prices.

We had a really lovely evening at Clark’s. The food was wonderful. We had risotto/squid followed by the cod. All utterly delicious. One of us then had the rhubarb cheesecake and was amazed by it. Hope to be back again soon. Nice venue/ambiance and lovely...

Clarks - wow! What an amazing find, worth a trip to Scarborough alone! From the understated exterior to the paired back interior, the focus is on service and food and Clarks delivers both in spades. We had the risotto “the best risotto i’ve ever had” and the Clarks Surf n Turf - an 8oz filet ( m rare ) and a half lobster. The steak was melt in the mouth delicious and the lobster - SO fresh, SO delicious. I think i could eat here every night and never become bored. An awesome place i implore everyone to visit. There’s also a free car park nearby in case Scarboros one Uber driver is busy. Essential 5*

Just nice... really nice... just as a good restaurant should be.

Lovely small restaurant. Amazing risotto starter. Venison main was served with horseradish mash, but it lacked flavour and not very smooth. My friends had Hake which they enjoyed but all said the portion was very small. The upside down cheesecake had little to none crumble. All in all a nice meal but just missed the mark on flavour and quantity.

Delicious food - a great treat. Very rich, so expect to come home full. Lovely wine, lovely atmosphere. Some classics have playing in the background.

Beautifully prepared food and lots of lovely flavours, the staff were very polite and attentive. We were a group of 8, and the chaps in the group said they could have done with bigger portions, as they were quite small, the ladies had elegant sufficiency. It was a chilly night outside, and the restaurant was a bit on the cool side, I would have prefered it a bit more cosy. I would definitely go back though.

Wonderful food packed with delicate flavours. The halibut was a real treat . The staff were attentive and added to a very relaxed atmosphere. Very pleasant evening.

Menu not very extensive. Food OK but pricey. One star review is for the nasty sneaky way a twenty quid gratuity was added to my bill without so much as a mention.

We Have been going to Clark’s for a number of years. At first this was probably the best restaurant in Scarborough but sadly their standards have slipped. Service has always been hit and miss but last couple times it’s been very poor - generally only one person serving all the tables, you can wait 20 mins plus to get initial drinks and orders get missed. Food isn’t up to the original high standards, their dressed oysters were very plain, venison starter very underwhelming

Quality food with excellent service. Not an extensive Menu but I felt that I could have eaten everthing on there. I particularly liked the focus on local produce. Highly recommended.

A superb experience from start to finish. Excellent friendly service and perfect food. The crab starter was full of taste as was the risotto. The turf and surf was perfect and the cheeseboard had a perfect selection. Well done. We will definitely be back.
