A regular place my wife and I frequent when we are in Whitby. The food is hot, freshly cooked and very, very tasty. The coffee is full bodied and large and the tea is made by using tea leaves, something of a rarity nowadays. It is a very comfortable place to sit and watch other customers eat, drink and chat about their day. The service is not too obstrusive and allow time from entry to order at an acceptable time period. We will be back, next time we are in Whitby. Thank you.

We’ve visited Rusty Shears a few times now. Do not go here if you want fast food! Tea is served properly in China tea pots with loose leaf tea. The menu is varied but the breakfasts ( and bacon butties) are really good. They are dog friendly and when I asked for an extra sausage they asked if it was for our dog and fetched out two cool sausages cut up ready for our dog. On our last morning in Whitby we walked past Rusty Shears and our dog turned a sharp left straight into their courtyard! She is a fan as well !

¡Gracias!

Always come here every time we visit, we came in July and all was not good but we thought we would like to give it another chance, what's happened to this place? Under new management apparently... We waited a while at a dirty table for our order to be taken even though the cafe was very quiet for Goth weekend.we ordered our drinks and also fruit scones with jam and asked for cream. The coffee was bitter and scalded and the scones were flat, hot and doughy and served with watery jam and butter cream and not fresh cream as you would expect! If we had been told that's how it was served we wouldn't have ordered them, they were truly revolting! We left them uneaten. The staff I have to say were lovely and we didn't say anything to them but I think the owners need to up their game. We won't be visiting again sorry.

O dear. Loved this place: young enthusiastic staff, wide variety of gins and other interesting drinks, super salads, open and closed sandwiches. Our Whitby destination alongside a good wet fish shop. Now just another caff. Good luck to the ladies running it but it needs to be smartened and the grubby menus replaced. We should have known when we arrived at 1pm on a sunny midterm day: deserted quadrangle and mostly empty indoors.

The interior of the restaurant is striking with its vintage atmosphere. The building, crockery, and decor all contribute to a sense of stepping back in time. You can truly feel the history in the air, which adds a unique charm to the place. The service at Rusty Shears is excellent. Beautiful little cafe with a nice selection of food and drink, along with a wine and gin menu too! The decor is quirky and is nice to look at whilst enjoying your food and drink. Staff advised us on which table to sit at for the 6 of us. Our order was taken quickly and also came out to us quickly. The cheese scones were very nice and were even served warm. Unfortunately, my grandmother had a fall whilst we were visiting. There was a step down right as you come out of the cubicle in the toilets, which caused her to lose her balance. She fell and injured her knee and cut her head. Not the cafe’s fault of course, but the staff were very nice about it and apologised. They got my grandmother a chair and a first aid kit which was great. Perhaps another sign on the inside of the cubicle door to remind you of the step when you come out? Overall we really enjoyed our visit and all members of staff were lovely, especially after my Grandmother’s accident. We shall be visiting again when we’re next in Whitby.

Quirky little cafe at the top of the hill off a side street with a lovely little courtyard that takes you through to a eclectic, homely cafe selling breakfasts and lunch time dishes. A couple of vegetarian items on the main menu plus a lovely Rustys veggie snack on the specials board, which is; a couple of potato cakes topped with wild mushrooms & poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, tomato and dried onion. All very nice but the service was slow and we had to ask for them to take our orders as I think they'd forgotten us and the dried onion was too hard for me, it felt like I was eating twigs. 6 of us decided to just pop in to this little back street cafe restaurant. Lovely little courtyard area and plenty of inside seating. Cakes were delicious and sandwiches top-notch. We also had the sea food chowder, which was lovely and packed with all sorts of fish. And home made tomatoe soup and fresh bread. Only down side was it took 30 minutes to serve all 6 of us, and items came out one at a time so the hot food would have been cold if we hadn't eaten it straight away and wait for everyone to get their items. Drinks are reasonable, and prices are good. I think the staff were a little over run as it was reasonably busy. Would go back but perhaps only when it was a little quieter.

This place is so good that you must book to avoid disappointment! We had planned to eat in Scarborough town centre having had a lovely afternoon watching a film and shopping, but the place we'd chosen had decided to close early because they'd had 2 busy days! I rang Walkers and threw ourselves on their mercy. They were of course fully booked on this Saturday night, but felt so sorry for us that they gave us a table in their pudding bar. There's a huge choice of meals, all beautifully hot and tasty and the staff are very friendly and efficient. I always have the haddock and prawn mornay which has a creamy sauce and is full of fish. It comes with chips, boiled potatoes or a side salad and on this occasion I chose the side salad, which was enormous and so much better than the usual small dish of limp leaves and tiny bits of tomato and red onion that places usually call a side salad (see photo). In the summer I usually choose the crayfish tails salad, which is also superb value, full of fresh salad and fruit with a most generous portion of crayfish tails. I've twice been with friends who've had to ask for a box to take home half of their portion which they've enjoyed for their lunch the following day at home! We're so lucky to have this wonderful, family run restaurant near us. Do go - but do ring first to book or you will be disappointed!
