Another lovely evening meal at the Lorna Doone restaurant yesterday. Always so welcoming and friendly. Our guest had the chicken pie, my husband ate the saltimbocca and I had a perfectly cooked, juicy fish. Mel's suggestion of the Sangiovese - as we all felt like red wine - was perfect. Unusually we even went for pudding. I loved the rhubarb pudding and my husband enjoyed the sticky toffee. We'll be back soon! Thank you!

I stayed at this lovely hotel with my dog. My room was spotless, clean, comfortable and warm. Bed was lovely and comfortable. Owners could not have been more helpful. They loved having my dog here. Breakfast was amazing and lovely choice of fresh fruit and cereal together with a good choice of cooked food. The scrambled eggs were amazing. A great gem in a beautiful village. One not to be missed and highly recommend for a great stay . I will certainly be back . Thank you!

Booked for dinner only, although we have previously stayed in the hotel. The food was beautifully presented and cooked, with portion sizes which were more than sufficient. Service was unobtrusive and remarkably efficient. Not cheap, but inexpensive considering the fulfilling experience. Certainly the best Porlock has to offer. Highly recommended.

Almost the best meal we had in Porlock. Firstly, I have to say that the main courses were all fantastic, the beef ribs were to die for! It was all really yummy but everyone at the table said they could have eaten more and wished the portions were a bit bigger (maybe also related to the amount of walking we’d done beforehand). We all had desserts, which were also very good. I had the cheese board, which had a nice selection of local cheeses, but I was unsure about some of the crackers as they were soft. I queried this with staff, who said the oat biscuits were supposed to be like that - I think we’ll have to agree to disagree as it was like eating a soggy rusk (parents will know what I mean!).

Four of us ate here on Saturday 18th June at 7.30 Pm. Our friends who have a house in Porlock booked it. The Hotel / restaurant is very nice with a lovely atmosphere.it has a very cosy feel and the restaurant has a modern twist. The service was fantastic and the staff very friendly. The food was exceptional. All beautifully cooked and presented and very reasonably priced considering the quality. The only disappointment was that they don’t open on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evening as my wife and I wanted to come back again. Unfortunately we’re only staying inPorlock till Wednesday, so will have to wait a few months until we’re down again. Great place, great food ! Would highly recommend.

Booked us in at short notice. Swift service, and the mains in particular were both superb. Pudding wasn't quite so good but pleasant enough. The restaurant and bar look recently renovated and have been done nicely. Well priced (possibly they should charge more for the mains!), nice ambiance, would definitely visit again.

Lovely looking place, friendly staff. The food was mostly very good, all 3 courses. My other half couldn’t fault his burger, which is rather rare! The only comment I would have is that my broccoli was somewhat over cooked (might be personal preference though) and the shoulder of lamb was very dry. We’ve tried 3 places in Porlock and this was by far the best.

We called in for a drink one evening when camping near Porlock and thought it was lovely, so booked a table for another night (as they were full). We had an excellent meal, with very good wines and great service. Fish starters and mains were delicious, followed by beautiful homemade pudding and cheese & biscuits. We had a really nice chat with the owners and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We would definitely go again if we are in the area.

The menu had a good selection- in fact so good that we immediately asked if we could book for the following night before making our selection. We weren’t disappointed- the food was delicious. And we finished with the cheese board - a good selection of 3 local cheeses and accompaniments. The lamb 3 ways was our choice the following night and didn’t disappoint. Thank you so much

Located in the centre of Porlock, with a calm and relaxing feel. The food menu offers an interesting range of dishes with different influences. A modest wine list and bottled beers are stocked. Our food arrived very nicely presented, perfectly cooked, and was delicious with well judged flavour combinations. Prices are very competitive and service very good, both polite and efficient. Almost a 5* review, just held back with the limited drinks choices.

We were initially a bit dismayed to find nowhere apparently open for breakfast on a Sunday morning in Porlock! Then I spotted life in the Lorna Doone, and on enquiry it was yes, they could provide us with breakfast. There was a good choice of cereals and cooked dishes, and very good, friendly service in the cosy, traditional dining room. The meal was good value and very enjoyable.

We remember this hotel restaurant from several years ago - it has completely changed following a very tasteful upgrade. the staff are extremely friendly, the food was absolutely delicious with good options, but carefully prepared on both occasions. The restaurant is very comfortable and calming, the owners Mel and Paul are clearly passionate about their service. Kim and Tabitha served us and we were really well looked after. Very good location. Spoke with some guests and they told us that the facilities were excellent. Well done - we shall be back, thank you

The Lorna Doone Hotel offers restaurant meals to those who are not staying at the hotel. I had seen the menu many times and thought the description of the dishes very temptingt but was unsure whether it was a "dog friendly" restaurant, then one evening I spoke with the owners who confirmed that they accepted well behaved dogs in the restaurant. Having booked a table (highly recommended and probably absolutely necessary at the moment to ensure a table) when I arrived, albeit without our hound who we decided to leave at home as it was a wet evening, we had a very warm welcome. The food choices for starters and main course were varied and it was difficult to choose as they all sounded tempting. The soup which was obviously home made was delicious and the lamb three ways lived up to it's recommendation. My wife had the smoked sea food platter and chicken supreme which again was (apparently) lovely. Best meal she has had in ages which doesn't say a lot about my cooking!! The sweet choice to finish was also excellent. I have eaten at some fine restaurants including some not so far from Porlock and the food here is easily on a par. Apparently the food is locally sourced as much as possible and has that lovely fresh taste. From start to finish I can not fault our evening. The food, presentation, service and general ambiance was great. My compliments to Mel and Paul for a lovely evening. I am looking forward to seeing you again I'm the not too distant future.

The Lorna Doone hosted our family Christmas again this year. A group of 10 lively guests aged 18-80’s . In a previous vocation I ran Wheelers Restaurant in Brighton for a while... so I understand some of the joys and pressures involved in catering.. Being Coeliac, I need a strict gluten free meal.....Paul, The head Chef made sure I had my own gluten free breadsstuffing, gravy, and Christmas pudding, with lashings of brandy and Mel kindly packed the remainder pudding in the kitchen for me to take home. I was really touched..Our service was friendly and efficient, with Shelter Christmas Crackers again showing our hosts compassion. Thank you Sue, Paul and your team for giving us a Christmas to treasure..xx/

My wife and I had a meal here during our last visit to Porlock and we have to say we were unimpressed. We've been going to Porlock for the last 7 years and previously not eaten at the Lorna Doone as it's normally closed on the one day we have dinner in Porlock. So we were happy to get the chance to try it out this year. Unfortunately though, it wasn't what we hoped. We were the only couple in the restaurant when we arrived and it was cold, I even left my coat on for a while, before the starter arrived. However more people came whilst we were there, giving it more atmosphere. The menu looked good and there was enough choice; including some specials, however the quality of the food left something to be desired. Whilst the starters were OK, the main course wasn't so. My wife had the Goats Cheese Wellington, which she said wasn't very warm, but not so much that it had to be sent back and I had the Lobster and Prawn au Gratin. The Lobster in the Gratin was chewy and was certainly not fresh and the prawns weren't prawns, they were shrimp, subtle difference! also, the sauce was watery and lacked flavour. As there are other restaurants in Porlock and in the nearby towns & villages, it's safe to say we won't be rushing back next year.

We have always visited this restaurant over the last 20+ years since my wife’s mother moved to Minehead. This was the first time we felt like we were intruding and unwanted as a customer. We arrived for a 12:00 booking and immediately had the owner remind us that the table had to be free by 13:30. We had a reasonable meal although there’s not much you can get wrong with scampi and chips! But then to have the owner stand next to our table and say to other diners who had just arrived some 10 mins early for their table, ‘I have told them we need the table!’ was both rude and uncalled for. It is such a shame, a place that we had such fond memories of, and thought we were valued customers, but no longer unfortunately.

Called in for a drinks before setting out for a walk along Minehead seafront. Staffed by friendly, helpful volunteers, our drinks were freshly made and, f you want a quick snack, there's breakfasts, jacket potatos, etc, on the blackboard menu and cakes on the counter. There's seating both inside and outside, where there's a view of the actual turntable itself and of the other steam trains in the station. There's also a large book stall nearby. Toilet facilities are available on the station.
