Not very busy but had to wait a good half hour for two coffees and a slice of cake! We certainly weren't the only ones getting frustrated. Very pleasant staff (two young, one older) but they need to get moving ABIT quicker, we were cycling, it wasn't all that warm, we just wanted a quick refuel! I do have to say the coffee and cake was nice

This is a nice little village with a village store and a really lovely dog friendly tearoom, plenty of seating inside and out. We had a tasty breakfast bap and a cuppa coffee, also nice, friendly staff, freshly cooked so worth the wait. We enjoyed it so much, we went back for breakfast on the day we had to return home, we had a walk along the river with our little Bichon dog, had a look around the shop, bought jams ,honey, chutneys and fresh bread to take back home, we decided to go back in the tearoom for a cuppa for me and a smoothy for my partner and a piece of yummy cake before setting off home. Would definitely recommend the village and tearoom ,quite a few groups of bikers stopped off for food and drinks, they said what a great find.

We used to love coming here but don't know what's happened because on the last three visits the service has been extremely slow. On the last occasion we ordered three coffees and more than twenty minutes later we were still waiting. When I checked to see how our order was doing, I was given a rather curt reply from the lady I believe is the owner. We were very unhappy with the overall lack of good customer service and asked for a refund as we couldn't wait another ten minutes or so. Such a shame as it's a beautiful location.

Good coffee and great service to boot. Thanks

We usually manage a break on Exmoor each year, and a visit to Withypool tea room is always on the itinerary. Friendly efficient staff and good indoor & outdoor seating. We sometimes arrive with thoughts of a "healthy" option but usually succumb to a cream tea - deliciously large scones, a choice of "proper" jams, and an array of real teas. But it's more than a tea shop with breakfast options, light lunches, ice cream and a range of alcoholic & soft drinks on offer. Full marks to Anita and her team!

Having been to these tea rooms on several occasions and given good reviews it seemed like a nice way to spend the afternoon, a lovely drive over Exmoor with the knowledge a lovely coffee and cake awaited us. On this occasion the review for both service and food doesn't reflect what I'd expected from past experience. On arrival we'd asked for cake and coffee along with some soup, the person serving us said they thought they didn't have any more soup but after a short discussion with the person cooking, we were offered potato and leek soup. After paying we sat outside in the sunshine and waited, and waited until after 20 minutes the coffee arrived, as the coffee began to lose its heat I drank it and wondered when my Walnut and Coffee Cake would arrive along with the soup we'd ordered. Eventually after enquiring when the cake and soup would arrive, it arrived but not before the coffee had been despatched to the depths of my hungry stomach. The soup was luke warm, what had possibly been potato and leek soup was now a thin watered down liquid which didn't resemble anything other than a watered down soup. Clearly standards have slipped from what had once been a delightful experience and one we'd become accustomed to. I advise all those faithful customers to recognise those standards which made this location a must visit are no more. Save your money for a tea room which cares for its customers.

Sat outside in the Devon sunshine and really enjoyed sitting eating and watching the world go by. Bought cake to take away and enjoy later after my birthday dinner. Will go back with no hesitation. The photo is of the petrol pumps that are in situ outside where you sit. I think it must have been part of the garage which is next door at some time. It adds to the unique atmosphere of the lovely tea rooms. Thank you from the couple with the two black Spaniels.

On our tour of Exmoor we happened across the tea rooms at Withypool. After visiting Winsford and finding it was mostly closed, except for the lavatories, which are exceptional, so well done to the residents of Winsford for the superb upkeep of a vital convenience. Anyhow, the tea rooms at Winsford were closed, and due to finally close December 2023. So after grabbing a mars bar and paper from the open shop, next door to the pub, we moved on to Withypool. The tea rooms are situated very near the river and housed in an old service station, not fussy and quaint. We didn't require much to eat, so we looked at the menu and liked the sound of the soup of the day and the cheese scone and mature cheese and chutney. The scones were large and delicious, the cheese was beautifully mature and crumbly, and the chutney was just right to add a sweet and sour compliment to the cheese. We also topped it off with a very generous pot of tea. Service was quick and courteous, and the food was just right. Thank you... Oh, the reference to cheap petrol is the old pumps that are on show outside...

Nice but …. Family of 6 visit, to try the cream teas we had read about. We ordered 5 cream teas and received 2 bowls of 2 different jams but only one bowl of cream. For 5 people the amount of cream seemed pathetic. Of course we are British so don’t like to ask for more. Scones were nice but cream had to be rationed. Disappointed as you don’t get a price reduction for ordering 5- so why give out less cream. Ordering each separately would be your best option!

It’s clear why this simple tearoom is rated so highly. Super friendly staff, perhaps the lightest most tasty large fruit scones I have ever had (although smothering then with cream and Jam made them quite a bit heavier) and a decadent sized pot of tea. At a reasonable price in lovely location. I only wish I had room left for some cake. (They have quite an extensive menu and we told by one local their breakfast are as good too) We are staying locally and will certainly make another visit before we head home. If your passing go, if your not passing take a detour!

We have been before for cake and breakfast and found it good value. We went for the first time this year and had quiche and salad for £10.95. The food was served on a plate the size of a tea plate - a small slice of quiche, a handful of salad leaves and a scant tablespoon of coleslaw. It felt very overpriced for a lunch that was in no way filling. At that rate a whole quiche would cost in the region of £80. In addition we asked for warm quiche (as offered) but it was cold.

Scones were huge and fab, freshly baked! Lashings of cream with strawberry and whortleberry jam and a lovely pot of tea to round things off. We chose the plain scones but you could also order fruit & cheese scones, and there was a great selection of cakes & ice creams too. Lola The Wonder Dog enjoyed a Marshfield pet ice cream too. There was a bit of a delay in service but they were busy, we were in no hurry and the banter from the young kitchen staff learning the ropes was fun to hear! Well done all, highly recommended 👍

We have always visited this restaurant over the last 20+ years since my wife’s mother moved to Minehead. This was the first time we felt like we were intruding and unwanted as a customer. We arrived for a 12:00 booking and immediately had the owner remind us that the table had to be free by 13:30. We had a reasonable meal although there’s not much you can get wrong with scampi and chips! But then to have the owner stand next to our table and say to other diners who had just arrived some 10 mins early for their table, ‘I have told them we need the table!’ was both rude and uncalled for. It is such a shame, a place that we had such fond memories of, and thought we were valued customers, but no longer unfortunately.

Another lovely evening meal at the Lorna Doone restaurant yesterday. Always so welcoming and friendly. Our guest had the chicken pie, my husband ate the saltimbocca and I had a perfectly cooked, juicy fish. Mel's suggestion of the Sangiovese - as we all felt like red wine - was perfect. Unusually we even went for pudding. I loved the rhubarb pudding and my husband enjoyed the sticky toffee. We'll be back soon! Thank you!

Called in for a drinks before setting out for a walk along Minehead seafront. Staffed by friendly, helpful volunteers, our drinks were freshly made and, f you want a quick snack, there's breakfasts, jacket potatos, etc, on the blackboard menu and cakes on the counter. There's seating both inside and outside, where there's a view of the actual turntable itself and of the other steam trains in the station. There's also a large book stall nearby. Toilet facilities are available on the station.
