The Turntable Cafe in West Somerset

We thought we'd try the Turntable breakfast. Two sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, baked beans, slice of toast and mug of coffee or tea for £9. The bacon was thick and tasty, sausages cooked well and the eggs cooked to perfection with lovely orange yolks. Only suggestion, to make this better would be to have better bread, rather than cheap supermarket type bread and or include mushrooms/tomatoes. Clean and tidy with helpful staff, will call again

Bacon and egg bap was gross! Sent it back and second one was no better. Bacon was precooked and certainly not today and it smelt off, definitely on the turn! Chef/ cook said it was cooked earlier this morning, it was 10 am? certainly not cooked today,!! was all dried up and leathery also the colour gave it away! Would not recommend this cafe. As a local I have found with many cafe’s here in Minehead they rely solely on passing-through trade, but they need to get a reality check and try harder to achieve some semblance of quality. Very disappointing. Shall not return or recommend.

Great service and good sausage and Egg bap, great hot chocolate, clean tidy and station location to watch the trains come and go

The best scones ever! Light and fluffy yet still very much a scone. Also good selection of food at reasonable prices and what a view. It's possible to sit at the station and watch steam trains come and go. Highly recommend even if you aren't taking a trip on the train. Also right next to the lovely sandy Minehead beach.

We had a nice sandwich and cup of tea while visiting this cafe, we sat outside watching the world go by and the trains just in front of us.

We have started visiting again on a regular basis again and are nevet disappointed. Very good coffee and lovely fresh cakes. Staff are always cheerful and welcoming. The newly shaded area outside will welcomed by those who prefer not to sit in the glare of the sun and will also provide shelter from the rain.

Lovely lattes , scone butter & Jam. Lovely polite friendly lady served us reminded me of my grandmother she was so kind. Been here few times before and will always pop back

The cafe offer an excellent range of light snacks, sandwiches and drinks. There is inside seating, and outside too. You overlook the working railway turntable, hence the name.

Lovely choice of snacks and cakes to go with tea or coffee, with a site right on the station platform so you can enjoy the heritage atmosphere. There's a great second-hand book shop on the platform too,

Lovely location for a teashop, inside and outside seating, including undercover near the railway station platforms. Ideal for any train lover as museum and shop alongside.

Visited the cafe after a long night working and a full English was needed for recovery purposes! Food was good, service friendly and attentive and being next to the West Somerset Railway was an added bonus.

I visited with my wife and sons whilst we were on holiday in North Devon on our way back to our overnight stay in Highbridge. We enjoyed our time in Minehead walking on the beach and looking around the train station and depot, but the weather was appalling with rain and cold. This cafe was a great find with a lovely bacon and sausage bap for me, bacon and egg for my wife, two proper mugs of tea and my son enjoyed his shortbread. It had a great welcoming atmosphere and the staff also helped us with a highchair for my younger son. I would definitely visit again

My friend and I visited this cafe while waiting for a steam train to Bishops Lydeard. I had a cream tea and was delighted at the size and lightness of the scone. It was served with plenty of jam and clottted cream and a lovely pot of tea. The staff are very helpful and service was good.

Popped into the cafe for breakfast before our train left. Friendly staff. Great breakfast bap and cuppa. Sat outside as it was a lovely sunny morning.

Great little cafe with easy access to the station

We called for tea and cakes in the afternoon, the place is spotlessly clean, light and airy, the cakes which appear home made were devine .

I made a note of this cafe when we arrived in the town. I thought it might be quite interesting being next to the old station. We headed off for a walk then made our way back, looking forward to a coffee. Unfortunately it was 4:05 and the place shuts at 4:00 so the photo of the empty tables and chairs was wholly appropriate.

Used this café several times. Always pleasant staff, good prices and a good location. Also, I'd sooner the money I spend goes to the railway not the big chains.

Located next to the turntable, the cafe allows a view of steam engines being turned around after hauling trains along the West Somerset Railway. An excellent cafe with a good range items available. Well worth a visit.

The Turntable Cafe is just behind the main platform at Minehead Station next to the (surprise!) Turntable. Good choice of cakes and savouries (many prepared fresh as ordered). Very good value and all served with politeness and loads of smiles.

The trains were not running but the cafe was open. Staff friendly and the items not that expensive. Worth a visit.

Always good food and today was no exception. I had a sausage and egg role , it was perfect! Do come and visit even if trains aren’t your thing!

Great way to break the journey and have some cakes ar refreshments prior to returning to Bishops Lydeard on teh Quantock Belle. Nice carrot cake and quaffable coffee.

Had a trip on train stopped at turn table cafe had cream tea ask one of the staff to out side to take my order as i had my dog with me they was very helpful

I love the Victorian sponge cake! The manager is so nice and the place is very clean. Love that this cafe is so close to home.

This cafe is lovely little place with friendly staff & excellent food myself & my partner have visited 2 days running as it was so good & we will be calling for lunch again next time we visit the West Somerset Railway.

Went on a Thursday lunch time. Ambiance was reasonable. We had a baked potato each, one with Coronation Chicken and one with cheese. The one with cheese was only warm, the one with the Coronation Chicken was hot. The cafe was clean and service was good. Prices were reasonable.

Go to this place at least once a month al ways very clean and people very pleasant

We went to the Turntable cafe as our parents regularly go there.We enjoyed our cake and coffee as we listened to the talk on bomb disposal in WW2 during the forties weekend.Staff were polite.

We popped in this place for some hot drinks. Good tea and lattes, lovely cakes and do a range of glutten free cakes. Well worth popping into.

I asked for beans on toast, what I got was a pile of dry toast on a small plate with a bowl of baked beans. The clue is in the name BEANS ON TOAST! My fathers sausage bap was a dry roll with 2 very poor quality sausages, would not eat here again very poor indeed.

This restaurant is run by The West Somerset Railway and is right on Minehead Station very close to the tracks and the turntable. There is a variety of food and sandwiches and snacks which can be eaten inside or out whilst watching the trains, listening to announcements or just relaxing.

We stopped for coffee and cake before catching the train back to Blue Anchor. The volunteers are so friendly and helpful, and it's a good place to sit and watch the busy world of the station.

We used to love coming here for a coffee. We don't do so any more. It has not been the same since Jess left. Not sure where she has gone but she is sadly missed both in personality and service. Both have been sadly lacking since her departure. The last time we came in the floor was filthy and the tables needed clearing.It was almost empty yet neither of the staff bothered to clean either.They were more concerned with their mobile phones. I popped in recently for a coffee to take on the train with me. There was a group of 5 in front of me that took forever to be served yet they were only having drinks. One of the two staff members was just putting a few dishes away but made no attempt to help or serve. More people came in behind me who eventually gave up waiting and left. The catering manager came in whilst all this was going on and just chatted to the person putting dishes away. He would have done better to have told him to serve! I did eventually get the coffee and made the train on time but only after spending a good ten minutes waiting for my coffee feeling very frustrated at the ineptitude. We used to love it there but will probably not bother again and have heard many locals say exactly the same.

Had lunch there on two occasions. The first had a pie, mashed potatoes and veg. Lots of it with extra gravy if required. Obviously homemade food and very tasty.

Whatever the weather and who ever you are, you will love the food and drink provided by dedicated staff. On a gala day you have a fantastic view of the turn table.

Needing a hot snack and coffee to warm us up after our walk on the prom we popped into the Turtable cafe as we had been there before in the summer.The toasted sandwiches were really hot and crunchy with loads of cheese.They came with salad too so it was very filling...we could have shared one ! We were served quickly by a friendly lady and as it looked like she was cooking on her own she coped well.Will pop in again after our next visit to Minehead.THE RATING BUTTONS DONT WORK SO I WILL GIVE IT A GOOD RATING IN THIS REVIEW !

Now the actual building is impressive and does allow visitors to view the station whilst eating and yes the operation is run by volunteers, thus every penny counts, so why is this wonderful Café with great potential being run so badly. First having got a...

We have been a couple of times and the food has been excellent the only problem we have had is the cups of tea as never been that hot, I will still use as the food and staff are doing a good job please do...

The Turntable cafe is an excellent place to stop for a coffee before you board your West Somerset Railway train at Minehead Station. Excellent coffee, teas and cakes. We enjoyed it very much before our excursion to Watchet.

We decided to have a snack between trains. The staff were very pleasant, and there was a nice variety of food including sandwiches. We had a hot snack which was produced very quickly. Although it was October, it was warm enough to sit and eat outside and enjoy the view of activities in the station.

We only wanted a quick drink before our train departed, so this cafe was ideal. They were hugely popular, so the time it took to be served was a little bit longer than normal. I have not reduced their rating simply because they were so busy. Had they not been so busy and still took their time, then I would not have been so happy to wait.

Right by the steam railway station, serving light lunches such as jacket potatoes, home made cakes, hot and cold drinks and sandwiches. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Visited and had 3 sandwiches, Egg Mayonnaise, Ham and Tuna Mayonnaise. All were lovely. I've had Tuna Mayonnaise sandwiches before and really suffered with indigestion later due to too much Mayonnaise. If I wanted to be derogatory this time I'd say "where's the Mayonnaise?"! but I would say that lack of Mayo was a good point rather than a bad one.

We popped in to the Turntable Cafe while waiting for a train at the adjacent heritage railway station. We each had a cup of tea, which was fine, but we didn't like the look of some of the snacks on what was a warm day.We thought the lady who served us very polite and efficient, and the cafe had a high standard of cleanliness, but we also thought that the range of food on offer and the way that snacks are stored/displayed, could be better.
