After having a brilliant day trip to Southend I looked for a fish and chip shop to eat in before heading home. I usually call in at any of the fish and chip shops along the opposite side of the promenade but this place looked very cool and welcoming from the hot sun. I should have had second thoughts when the staff were clueless about the food on the menu. The order was eventually taken and we took a seat and waited for the food to be brought over. When it arrived it was in a cardboard box and only wooden cutlery was available. The fish was OK the chips were tasteless. My grandson's chicken was so overcooked it snapped the fork. He tried to eat it with his fingers but it was inedible. The toilet (singular for the whole building) was flooded and the floor covered in wet paper. When we told the staff they said "We know". The entire staff were just teenagers with nobody mature to guide them regarding customer service or basic hygiene. This experience spoiled an otherwise perfect day.

We met with friends at the cafe at Blue Hills Farm this morning. The experience we had was almost out of a comedy sketch and we ended up walking out after receiving refunds for what we had ordered. A regular of tea and a decaf tea were ordered. A cup of, tea (complete with teabag still in it) was almost bounced on he table. There was no saucer, spoon or milk supplied. We were told that there was no decaf so did we want anything else. The 'waitress' then walked off without waiting for a reply. Also, we tried to order an all day breakfast with one of the other members of staff. We were asked "large or small?". Having replied that we didn't realise there were two to choose from and asked what the difference was we were told "One is a bit bigger than the other". There was another customer group of three who had ordered and already been served with their food. They also commented to us upon the bad service. We have never felt so unwelcome in a cafe before. Ironically there was a 'Welcome' sign at the entrance to the cafe. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Una pareja sirvió 15 minutos después que la otra pareja. Solo 4 personas en total. Tuve que recordarles y luego las 2 comidas aparecieron al instante. Probablemente la camarera se había olvidado de sacarlos. No te disculpes.

We visited in December one lunchtime there was around 6 of us and we were the only people in here however not sure if lunchtime is a really busy time for them. Food was really nice and from what I can remember wasn't all that fast but not slow either, it was nice to have a cooked meal made for you as no doubt we all had something different from the menu - which wasn't set for Christmas which was nice for this time of year.

I've been going to this chippy for the last 25 years on and off but its decline is shocking. Overpriced, Mushy Peas came in the smallest of containers, I mean one table spoon portion for £1.75, criminal. Fish and Chips are greasy and the fish was tiny. Unfortunately this take away used to be cracking so not sure whats happened. Cash only has become the norm for these places but used to accept card. As a Yorkshire man I can honestly say this meal was the worst Fish and Chips I've ever had. Avoid and save your coin and go to the Royal Wootton Bassett high street to the China Chef, or Harbour take away.

Not good. Had a “Cheese Omelette”. I could have cooked a better one myself. Egg not mixed properly whites showing. More like fried egg mass. Served inside out and didn’t taste of cheese, very oily. Coffee was bitter and very expensive £3.90 for a “large” but size was really a medium. I won’t be coming back in a hurry.

Stopped for a bacon and sausage barm. I was hoping the sausage wasn't a run of the mill catering type but I was sadly disappointed. I do understand that to keep prices low some cafés have to buy cheaper produce but I'd rather pay a little more for quality food. Staff are lovely but won't be stopping again.

Personally I think this place is excessively priced for the facilities and the reasons I will share with you. Importantly we were looked after by Summer, the young lady was polite, very helpful and efficient and is an asset to this establishment . We note that the bar closes at 5pm so you will have to go to the pub over the road . The Butchers for drinks . You are not allowed to bring drinks back to this hotel unless you want to be fined £600 ! The nearest town is 12 mins drive away in Coleford. I advise you book a table if eating out as everywhere is always busy. I advise you check your beds and rooms upon arrival. Sadly our room was ready but we found dirty underwear in our bed so had to request housekeeping to completely change our sheets , even though it had been done . The rooms are small but functional . Breakfast is comprised of a bacon or sausage bap, cereal , tea coffee and toast . No fry up here. So eat plenty because if your going up to the Castle for a wedding you will not have access to food until after the speeches which may be late afternoon. My advice is keep some snacks and things in your boot for emergencies . Breakfast is very early as is the 10am checkout time. Small free car park at the back. Like I said at the beginning I think it is overpriced as there are some local Inns nearby that may offer much more for your money.

location-iconBest Western Mollington Banastre Hotel, England
British
outdoor_seating_161050takeaway_161050delivery_161050

I really don’t like giving poor ratings because I recognise the difficulties in the hospitality industry at the moment but there were few saving graces here. The Mollington Banastre used to be one of Chester’s best hotels and excellent lunch venues but I hadn’t visited for years. When I saw a voucher on offer for afternoon tea I bought one for my wife and two friends for a trip down memory lane. What a disappointment. The dining room was empty but for us and lacked warmth and atmosphere. The food offering was incredibly poor. The sandwiches lacked taste and imagination, the scones were small and along with the cakes looked and tasted as though they had been bought up the road at Morrisons. The only positive was the service which was good. Afternoon tea isn’t necessarily a good guide to the main aspects of a hotel but the quality and ambiance we experienced give me concern. It will be years again before we choose to come back.
