Personally I think this place is excessively priced for the facilities and the reasons I will share with you. Importantly we were looked after by Summer, the young lady was polite, very helpful and efficient and is an asset to this establishment . We note that the bar closes at 5pm so you will have to go to the pub over the road . The Butchers for drinks . You are not allowed to bring drinks back to this hotel unless you want to be fined £600 ! The nearest town is 12 mins drive away in Coleford. I advise you book a table if eating out as everywhere is always busy. I advise you check your beds and rooms upon arrival. Sadly our room was ready but we found dirty underwear in our bed so had to request housekeeping to completely change our sheets , even though it had been done . The rooms are small but functional . Breakfast is comprised of a bacon or sausage bap, cereal , tea coffee and toast . No fry up here. So eat plenty because if your going up to the Castle for a wedding you will not have access to food until after the speeches which may be late afternoon. My advice is keep some snacks and things in your boot for emergencies . Breakfast is very early as is the 10am checkout time. Small free car park at the back. Like I said at the beginning I think it is overpriced as there are some local Inns nearby that may offer much more for your money.

This is a lovely place to stay. I came here for a wedding and we stayed in the barn. Absolutely lovely. Very modern. Beds were comfy. Dinner was good, breakfast was great and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Made us feel very welcome.

Friendly staff with a nice options on the menu. Little disappointed by the Stilton mushrooms as you got 6 mini button mushrooms filled with Stilton so not worth the price. Apart from that it was a nice lunch.

We booked a table for dinner here after the hotel we were staying in couldn't accommodate us. The staff were really warm and friendly and the food was really good. Altogether we had a lovely evening at the Wyndham Arms.

We were a large group, who admittedly turned up without a booking. They managed to find up two tables which were big enough. However, it soon became apparent why the restaurant had only two other tables taken. We all ordered off the specials menu as we were not offered the Al a carte. There were three choices available, roast beef, roast pork or a vegetarian dish. Whilst those who had the roast pork found it tasty, the rest of the meal was lacking. The Yorkshire puddings were very overdone, to the point of being burned. The cauliflower cheese had also been left too long under the grill and was burnt on top. The mixed carrot/ swede tasted as if it was fermenting and was clearly not fresh. The roast beef was tough. The roast potatoes were like bullets. The vegetarian tart, whilst, apparently tasty was a very meagre portion. I don't often leave reviews on Trip advisor, however, I was so appalled with the quality of the meal that I thought it important to feedback.

Went in for lunch after a walk round the village with friends. Ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich. It arrived on a big wooden platter. The sandwich consisted of two pieces of bread cut in half with a bit of cheese and pickle cut in half with a bit of lettuce on the side. There was no dressing on the lettuce and the sandwich I could have presented better at home. Definitely not worth the £4.50 charged. Any where else it would have come on a plate and been charged a couple of pounds. For the four sandwiches, 3 shandy's and a lemonade £33. Cannot comment on the rest of the menu but after this experience would not go back and try

Visited this lovely restaurant when a local pub was too full to take us. SO glad we came. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Brought drinks to our table (so no waiting at the bar). The food was good quality, served quickly but not rushed. We'll come back here to stay the next time we're mountain biking in the Forest of Dean.

We visited in September for a week. We only spent one night eating in the hotel as we found the menu not to our taste. Plenty of pork dishes but very little else on the night we ate in.

We had prebooked a table for a small family gathering but when we arrived there was no heating - on a cold December day! Good job we had wrapped up warm. A wood burning stove (not the blazing log fire shown) was lit on our arrival but it did little more than stop us freezing to death - don't expect "warm and cosy" and have a heavy coat handy. The menu had to be printed on our arrival but after ordering whitebait as a starter the manager came back saying it was not available - because the kitchen had the wrong type of batter. The main courses featured a lot of locally raised pork but the gammon steaks were so salty they were inedible. When we told the manager he shrugged his shoulders and said they were the last two available. Fortunately I'd chosen the sausages - ok but not exceptional. The only good thing about the place was the coffee. For anything else I'd look elsewhere.

We stumbled across this establishment by accident and I am so glad we did! We entered for a few pints, and Nigel told us that we were welcome to use the pool table and he even paid for our first game! We often return to this fine establishment to recapture the atmosphere from our very first visit! Wyndham is love, wyndham is life!

Stopping by this pub on a Sunday afternoon after a long walk felt like a good idea for a pint and something to eat. We realised it was a bit late to eat on a Sunday, but an opportunistic manager informed us that he did have some sandwiches. Granted it did sound like he was going to knock these up himself with whatever he could find, but swiftly after a couple of minutes with a plate of what can only be described as the type of sandwiches you get at a retirement home or had been knocked together by your nan for a village fete, had quite clearly been left over from an event. The asda basics white sliced bread was stale, the contents pretty much inedible. We were ravenous after walking all day and so we ate them thinking that the manager must surely be giving these to us almost as a good will gesture, because they were THAT bad. When it came to settling the bill, 1 and half pints and our rotten sandwiches came to £15, £9 in total for the stale sandwiches. After some huffing and puffing and general rudeness from the manager, who insisted "this is what they cost in the menu" when clearly this was not something that was served on the menu, he knocked off one pound. The severe lack of any sort of atmosphere or friendliness in this pub was really sad because the building is clearly beautiful. They couldn't even light the fire. A real missed opportunity here for a nice pub, I feel sorry for the locals. But it's pretty obvious this isn't a pub for locals given the obnoxious behaviour and down right unfriendliness of the landlord.

I took a group of friends here for dinner as it looked good and is close to where we live, but will never step over the threshold again. I can only think this place is still going because of its location and poor, ignorant people who don't know the area. We waited an hour for a dinner that was not very nice and over-priced for what it was; followed by our plates being taken one at a time over a space of 20 mins, while some of us were still eating. They restaurant was clearly understaffed and the staff didn't know what they were doing, as evidenced by lots of confusion behind the bar. But the worst part of the meal came when we ordered our desserts. The menus had different information on them and when I questioned this, the manager told me that it was obviously a 'rogue' menu and I was looking in the wrong place. Apparently I am supposed to know that a dessert for two is double the price, even though it clearly stated a price for one and I was shouted at when I asked if I could order the dessert for one as the menu stated. I declined to have a dessert and two desserts that were ordered then took another hour to come. We were seated at 7pm and got our second course at 9.40. Avoid this place like the plague. I'd happily recommend The Butcher's Arms or Tudor Farmhouse, both fantastic and in the same village.

The three course evening meal was excellent. There was a good range of choice for each course and the food was tasty and well presented. The new Head Chef is doing a great job. Staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was a warm and relaxing place to eat.

Did not stay, but visited friends who were staying, and booked for a meal. The food was mediocre, at best. the Scottish chap, who we believe to be in charge was rather abrupt, and lacking in people skills. Before we recommended the hotel to friends, we read the reviews, and it seemed to be ideal.so very disappointed with The Wyndham. The service was very slow, although the waiting staff were very pleasant.

Having booked a table for six people at 7 pm for a special occasion we arrived just before the booked time to be told that they thought that we had booked for 5 pm and that they had phoned at 5:30pm to see where we were. Either they called the wrong number or this was an outright lie, as there was someone home at that time and no call was received. They totally failed to accept that this was their mistake or make any attempt to rectify the situation. We were then informed that there was no table available until 7:30, so we suggested that they might like to supply a round of complimentary drinks to keep us going until then. This was met with a categorical 'No'.I cannot believe how rude and unpleasant the manager was and would never, ever expect to be treated that way by any establishment. What was supposed to be a very special occasion was very nearly ruined by their attitude. Luckily, a nearby establishment fitted us in and we had a great evening somewhere else.

My wife and I decided to go out for Sunday Lunch at the last minute. We decided to try Clearwell which is 10minutes drive from where we live. After all there are at least 3 eateries there, surely we must get lucky. Both the Butchers Arms and the Tudor Farmhouse Hotel were chocker, so we strolled down to the Wyndham Arms. The car park was all but empty and there we no signs of life anywhere. We thought maybe it had closed for an owners holiday. The door was open and as we walked in, we were greeted by a rather unpleasant stale smell. The place looked grubby in the dim light and there was no sign of activity. We were about to exit when a gentleman appeared and asked what we wanted. When we explained that we had come for Sunday lunch (by now it was about 2pm), we were informed that he had not called the chef in that day as they had had no bookings and so there was no food!!. We were flabbergasted and as they use to say in the News of the World newspaper, we made our excuses and left.Being local, we have been here a few times previously, but it never has been brilliant. This time took the biscuit though. What a shame. It could be a great place and really buzz under the right ownership as the building/location gives it all the right start up credentials.

Twice we have visited this week for lunch only to find no food being served. This was recommended as a good dog friendly place. On the up side it meant we ended up at two other great local places. The Inn at Penallt and the Boat Inn at Penallt. So poor show for Wyndham Arms but wood woop for the other two.

We booked for a large party for Saturday lunch in the bar, complete with over 10 dogs! The food was delicious, not your average pub grub, more upmarket. The pork burger/sausages are particularly tasty. We primarily booked at it classed itself as "dog friendly" which it most certainly is as our lot were made most welcome! We will certainly be returning, hopefully to stay over next time.
