This pub is definitely a must but a shame that it's closed Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday otherwise we would have been back for more tasty food and tried the other fantastic selection of beer, ales and ciders. Staff are very helpful and really don't mind going that extra mile for you , it's dog friendly so our large and very slobbery french mastiff enjoyed the feast along side us. A visit is a must and hope to be back next year. Strongly recommend this pub.

A cosy, traditional country pub. I love the interior: patterned carpet, beams and horse brasses. If you want the romance of an olde worlde country pub, this is the place for you. The man who served me was very friendly, and it was very cheap for a pint and a bowl of chips!

Stepping into this pub takes you straight back to 2006, a waft of stale cigarette smoke lingers, a smell I’ve not noticed in a pub since the smoking ban was brought in fifteen years ago. The law doesn’t seem to apply here as patrons puff away at their leisure. We stayed for a couple of drinks which were nice enough and the landlord was very friendly.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to the Forest to celebrate a birthday. Good real ale and a nice bar meal. Landlord good sense of humour if you buy into it. Q "What's the soup like?" A:"Well...it's warm and runny.." :) This is the sort of pub I love .....full of character and history you can almost touch. It's the sort of place we need to support - too many of them are closing and being converted to homes.

We decided to pop in here for food and drink on a Saturday as we staying local. Never been to the area before. Upon arrival the landlord immediately showed some arrogance but we ignored. At 2.04pm after spending around £15 on drinks my wife and I felt hungry so decided we would ask if we could order...no we stop at 2 and don't start again until 5.30pm. This was again the landlord, who at that point was serving himself some food. We decided that as nothing local in the area within walking distance we would walk to the village and managed to get a drink and excellent service killing time as we were so hungry by getting an ice cream and snacks in the local shop. Headed back after a long walk and arrived back at this pub at around 5.15pm. Landlord said to my wife...oh you are back again....my wife said yes just I time to order food...he laughed in his arrogant way and said no nearly time.....rude. Looked at menu which had not changed since lunch and went in to order...ordered the Tortollini for my wife and I ordered the lamb shank with red wine and rosemary sauce mashed potatoes and veg. The food arrived in 8 minutes....supermarket tortellini (not Tortollini) get it right with what looked like juice from chopped tomatoes and a few raw onions and salad from a a bag! The lamb shank was microwaved with a dry tasteless mash, tasteless celery, broccoli, carrots, courgettes and mashed swede. The lamb was chewy, dry and absolutely disgusting and more bone than meat. The sauce was just a lumpy sour gravy. This was by far the worst meal my wife and I have ever had the misfortune of eating anywhere! We were not asked how the meal was and the landlord...is just simply rude and arrogant. I hope others do not make the mistake of dining here. He could not be bothered to serve us and we waited all day to dine. Oh and just for special measure, the pigs which are to the rear of the beer garden.....were fed the same time as us throwing up a huge cloud of dust and pig smell. Who feeds the pigs when you have just served food to guests????? Any positives? The day was a lovely sunny day and the drinks were cold. I would not stop here again if it were the only pub in the area! Abysmal!

Touring the Forest of Dean area, we called at the Cock Inn on the evening of Tuesday, 28 September in sheeting rain looking forward to a hot meal and warm welcome. Front door locked although there were people visible in the bar drinking as we could see them through the pub window. After our repeated attempts to gain attention were ignored, eventually someone (presumably the landlord) staggered out from the back door and grudgingly suggested could come in for a drink. When we asked about food we were told ‘No, we don’t do food’ . If you are going to have a few mates round for a lock in drink then next times I suggest you close the curtains and put a ‘Closed’ sign on the door. Appalling !

One of the two bar staff was really friendly and personable, leading us to go again the next day, but on that occasion, the other member of bar staff made our family group feel distinctly unwelcome when they weren't noticeably busy. Fairly standard array of pub food options, sadly let down by a failure to deliver on a couple of tweaks to pizza toppings, and apparently by not restocking for a number of days apart, as the vegetarian options were whittled down each time we tried to return before giving up.

It’s a shame that the staff are the rudest people in the town. They lie, make excuses and are incredibly rude. It’s a shame because this used to be the best fish and chip shop in the area but even their delivery staff say that it’s unhygienic to deliver and someone had food poisoning (according to their own delivery man who I have recorded on the door cam!)
