Thank you to The Swan at Staunton for a lovely meal last night. Were greeted by the friendly bar staff with a smile and request for our drinks order which they took and brought around to us in the conservatory - which overlooks the nice neat gardens. Drinks promptly brought around and we ordered our food. At this point, a nice touch we thought, we were asked what sauces we might wish for with our meal. So whilst the food was being cooked the sauces were brought around. How much better that being asked what sauces you want when the food is delivered and having to wait 10 minutes for them to arrive - by which time you've normally eaten half of your meal! Great idea. We started with garlic bread between us and honestly - the best garlic bread we both thought we have ever eaten - and we eat out a lot and all over the world. Superb! Main courses arrived - local aged Herefordshire beef burger for me and haloumi salad for my partner, together with the addition of onion rings, bowl of chips with the salad. The lovely waitress then asked if there were any additional sauces we might wish for and she suggested vinegar as we had chips - which was duly brought. Plainly the staff at The Swan really want to do a good job (and they do!) - not just deliver food to table! The food was excellent and a I challenge anyone to eat it all! Huge portions! Great, great value for money, first rate food and superb service - a six star rating if there was such a thing! So a huge 'THANK YOU' to the bar staff, restaurant staff and of course the chef at The Swan in Staunton! And NO we are not on commission nor family or friends! John & Sarah

Arrive in large car park. We have a family member in a wheelchair and find a very disabled friendly environment. By the disabled toilet is a rather medieval style, largish dining room (not in use at lunch time). A large very attractive beer garden with three four seaters under cover. Large bar area with a stylish pool table. A charming conservatory with three 4 place tables and a 2-seater. Toilets by the front door are very stylish. Service is very friendly snd very efficient. Prices of food and drink are most reasonable. The food isn't at all consistent with the price - it is very good to excellent! Highly recommended.

The Swan at Staunton was the venue we chose for my dads 80th Birthday. We have been overwhelmed by how well run the pub is. From the moment I decided on the venue, the manager couldn’t have been more helpful, a real professional. Nothing was too much trouble, we were having a party for 19. Upon arrival we had Pimms on the lawn and then a three course dinner was served followed by coffee and cakes. Locally sourced produce well cooked and presented The service was outstanding, everything was served together, so much taste and flavours in the food. Ample portions, a wonder chef indeed! Everyone commented on the impeccable service and we all had a truly fabulous 80th Birthday for my father. A huge thank you to Anthony, Harriett, Anya, Sam, Kieran, Cam & Tamas. Sheer Brilliance.

We waited around an hour for our food - it wasn't that busy when we first arrived, although it did fill up later on, probably because the early arrivers like us were still waiting as the later bookings arrived. As this place had recently won an award, we were expecting a fairly high standard, but at best it was OK. The mussels in the seafood paella hadn't opened up - a sure sign that they are not fresh - and when we sent them back, they were quickly returned with a message that 'Chef says they're OK'. The eton mess dessert was just that - two marble-sized pieces of meringue in a sloppy mess. The rest was acceptable, though unremarkable. We won't be going back.

I had lovely veggie choice. My partner had the trio of lamb - again he stated the meat was lovely. How ever very small serving of the potato with the lamb - but more importantly, trio of lamp states “rack of lamb” which is actually one lamb chop from a rack - little misleading! Just simply state “lamb chop” with the lamb sausage and slow cooked lamb. Surely this must have been highlighted before.

Took my mother to lunch with the family. Had a mixture of foods. One guest requested a different alternative to chips with the steak. After being told that the chef wouldn't do an alternative potatoe option (despite stock being present) she settled for a lime and coriander discus. This was dry and bland. The rest of us had burgers which were average at best and dripping with oil. The atmosphere of the swan is probably the most disappointing thing as there isn't any and to be frank you feel a bit unwelcome. Generally a bit poor and despite one of us being local we were all quite certain that there are better options available.

My daughter in law and I met for a drink and a chat. Had not been to the swan for a while. Now there is a snooker table and a tv in the middle of the bar area. Several youths were playing snooker then the football came in the tv. The youths got more and more rowdy as time went on. There was much bad language and shouting. We could not hear one another talking. We complained to the supervisor who just shrugged and walked away. You have lost our custom as don’t want to compete with bad behaviour when out for an evening drink.

We went with friends to this pub having been told it was quite good. We were the only people in the dining area and one person in the bar ( not a good sign). The menus was quite small and we were advised that only one portion of the Lasagne was left ( so it was probably from yesterday.). The soup of the day wasn't exciting white onion and cabbage. We made out choices and three of us had the ham egg and chips, the ham was very tasty but the chips were overcooked.. one of our number hAd the sausage and mash (ok but not outstanding)). and one of us had the Caesar salad, very chopped,up and lots of croutons.

Visited for lunch at the recommendation of a friend, who lives locally. This is a real gem of a place. Ambience is warm and welcoming, decor is a modern but rustic style which feels clean and elegant whilst still feeling like a pub. I ordered fish and chips, a choice I make regularly due to dietary constraints, and this was one of the best I’ve had in years. Freshly cooked fish, chips didn’t seem home made but they were cooked absolutely perfectly (I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had over or undercooked frozen chips in a restaurant!) and the home made tartare sauce and mushy peas were delicious. Staff were really friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. I’d have no hesitation in recommending the Swan, it’s everything you want in a pub.

Visited on a Saturday evening with a Groupon deal, a nice friendly greeting and drinks service at the bar and then shown to our table. Good attentive service throughout our meal, quality of the food was excellent, notably stood out was the warm goats cheese salad with pears and candied walnuts which my partner had, it was a well put together combination of flavours. Portions were more than adequate and food was freshly cooked and served nice and hot. We added on the addition of dessert and the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream was a lovely conclusion to a nice relaxing evening in very pleasant surroundings. I had a falafel burger with tzaziki, sweet potato fries and coleslaw, which was really nice and my wife had fish and chips. I stole some of this and it was really good too. The chef very kindly knocked up some bread and butter for our little man to munch on, which was well presented on a slate. (I hope he doesn't start expecting this at home.) We spent 10 hours in The Swan last year, starting with lunch. 4 of us from Australia had gone to Stauton to meet 4 English friends - just for the day. The Swan was the perfect place for us to meet. The lunch was so delicious we decided not to move on. I informed the waiter that we were staying for dinner, to his great amusement. We proceeded outside during the lull in the afternoon. We were served drinks and nibbles in the garden - nothing was too difficult. At 6pm we embarked on more wonderful food and drink. We cannot thank The Swan enough for their hospitality, and fantastic food. We all said we would meet back there again in a couple of years. WHAT A TREAT!

I haven't been to the Swan for years but it is now one of three local pubs owned by a local farming family and having visited the other two and had really good meals and service we decided to have Sunday lunch at the Swan with visiting family.Unfortunately my husband is a difficult vegetarian who did not like either of the veggie alternatives but a quick email to the Swan requesting a roast with a meat substitute was organised. The meat eaters enjoyed the roast pork with the best crackling ever!, small roast available for children who eat free! which was much appreciated as an alternative to the usual children's menu, we enjoyed good range of deserts. We were well looked after by the charming attentitive young staff. The Swan has various dining areas from the conservatory over looking a very pretty well care for garden to a large barn type room which could easily accommodate large groups. The toilets were impeccable, spotlessly clean, beautiful tiles, nice soap, it makes a difference! One of the wonderful things about The Swan Inn, Staunton, is that there are separate and distinct areas which enable you to choose your experience. Being a huge rugby fan but also very much enjoying my food we were looking for somewhere to enjoy the rugby but also get a high quality dinner. The Swan didn't disappoint. The Bar area is lively, as you would expect from a local pub well supported by the village, and for good reason, especially with the England v France game on. With an excellent choice of high quality wines and beers, ciders, along with the usual spirits, there is something for everyone. A covered area in the garden allows for those that smoke and a conservatory creates a little oasis if you find the bar and surrounding areas too frenetic and friendly. But once England had secured their victory we needed sustenance, having also watched Gloucester beat Newport Gwent Dragons at Kingsholm earlier in the day. With a very distinct restaurant area a short walk along the hall a peace descends enabling you to sit and chat over excellent food just away from the hub bub. The barn area presents as a large hall with plenty of space between the tables yet still manages to be intimate. My partner had the Old Spot Belly Pork. This was a tad risky as we had been to The Royal Oak recently and she had the Belly Pork there exclaiming it was the best she had tasted. The Swan Inn had some way to go to live up to that standard but, according to my good lady, exceeded it. No mean feet because The Royal Oak has an enviable reputation. One of our number had the steak. I've had steak here twice before and have always been impressed. it was the same this time. Excellent, high quality locally sourced steak cooked to perfection.....which left two of us who decided on the Game Pie. There are few enough words to describe the delight that touched our palate. Neither of us could speak highly enough of it. I would have asked for more but the portions were sized extremely well, not too much, but enough. An extensive wine menu enabled us to select something that kept us all very pleased and once we had relaxed we then went for the cheeseboard. Well balanced and perfectly adequate. Coffee to follow and four happy and sated individuals will be returning again, no doubt soon. I confess, clearly, everyone has different opinions about such matters, but I have now visited The Swan to eat on six occasions over 3 years and have never failed to be pleased. I say six because I always like to travel around and try different places. Feel free to check my other reviews. To have visited one place so often, then, is credit to it's quality. Having seen a negative comment I confess to surprise. From the people I know who have visited no-one has a poor word to say against the place and I, and my friends, shall be returning, and soon. I would strongly suggest trying the place. I doubt you'd be disappointed.,

Service was good but food was way below average - I chose a fillet of beef stroganoff said to be served in a creamy sauce - the rice was clearly reheated and had clumped - I counted 3 strips of beef but the rest of the ingredients was made up with a large amount of sliced onion which tasted of overused oil and we're still semi raw - the sauce was a watery affair. Thanks to Anthony and all the staff for making our daughter Fran and her husband Will's wedding day so perfect. The Swan had never catered for a wedding before but they certainly hit the right note. Delicious food, beautiful room, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Had lovely comments from the wedding guests and we will definitely be back

Yesterday we had our wedding reception and evening party at the amazing Swan in Staunton. We had only visited a couple of times to discuss the arrangements and to go to the steak night they have on a Thursday and each time the service has been to a fantastic and the food absolutely delicious. From start to finish the afternoon was perfect, the staff could not do enough for us. The 3 course meal we had was completely faultless, i had the Crab and chilli linguini to start, Sea bass as a main and raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, and once again, absolutely delicious! Many of the wedding party commented on the high standard of the food and i was delighted to pass this on to the staff. Today we went to clear up and stayed for Sunday lunch, the menu was lovely and varied. The traditional roast was available (Childen's roasts are free) along with various other light lunches or meals and once again, we were made to feel very special and looked after. I cannot think of a single thing that could have been done better. I feel sure we will be spending many more evenings and lunch times at The Swan at Staunton. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

We spent Saturday here for my best friends wedding reception. What a brilliant place! Such a relaxed atmosphere with friendly, attentive staff. I can honestly say that the food was amazing. Excellent choices available. All three of my courses were delicious, I had pate to start, chicken supreme with a mushroom and tarragon sauce for main, and a raspberry cheesecake for dessert. I honestly couldn't fault a thing, main courses were served with fresh veg and all piping hot. I didn't have any of the evening buffet as I was still full but it looked amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all so welcoming. Thank you for making the happy couples day so perfect, we will definitely be returning!

The Swan at Staunton is a great place to eat with a pleasant environment and served by friendly people. Four of us visited for lunch today and we had a great time. We all ordered something different and raved about the food...in fact, we were all saying how we wanted to come back! The food was high quality and very tasty. The presentation of the ploughman's was very imaginative. The conservatory was light and warm and I would highly recommend you try this place out.

Went a few weeks ago for lunch with some friends so didn't feel able to comment about my food at the time, but I don't think the crab cakes had seen the sea and certainly didn't look or taste anything like home made.Texture was really solid and Quite peculiar, as was the colour..There was very little on the plate , two tiny cakes and even less flavour.Very disappointing.Very pleasant conservatory to sit in but I would think twice before going there for food.

Went to The Royal Exchange for lunch yesterday and all's well so thought we'd give one of the sister establishments a try. What a difference in comparison. The Thai fish cake starter was edible but only just, the calves liver starter could have been so good but was overcooked and lacking sauce.Mains were calves liver and pork chop with veg.&cider sauce which I can't fault but again the liver was overcooked this time grossly.I hate to whinge & didn't complain,we will vote with our feet but it could have been lovely considering at the time we were the only couple in the restaurant. The staff were lovely but the food let's it down.Sorry

The food is always fresh and home made. Even the children's chicken strips are home made and the portions exceed expectations. The Sunday dinner could be improved- the meat is wonderful, though they could serve more roast potatoes and vegetables. They offer take away fish and chips on a Friday, which is so handy because there are no take aways close by that deliver. The cider events with live music and BBQs are always so much fun and always packed! It's a sister pub to the Royal Exchange, so you know it's a good pub!

I came here for lunch with my husband on a Saturday. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We were seated in the conservatory. The menu was very good and had a wide range of food available. Lots of locally sourced food too which was good to see. My husband ordered a burger with chips and coleslaw whilst I ordered crab fish cakes with salad and sweet potato fries. Our food arrived in good time and tasted very nice. I particularly liked the sweet potato fries and the salad was nice and fresh. The crab cakes were lovely, well seasoned with a spicy kick. Sadly, we didn't have time for dessert today but we have promised ourselves that we will return again soon to taste more of what The Swan has to offer.

My wife had the haddock with chunky chips and minted mushy peas whilst I enjoyed the really spicy Thai crab cakes with sweet potato fries and a classy dressed salad: both filling dishes beautifully prepared. Somehow we couldn't resist desserts: a big slab of lemon roulade with ice cream, whipped cream and fresh berries: that elicited 'umms' from my wife, whilst I filled up on three portions of cheese with biscuits and a tangy homemade chutney. Two rounds of drinks and a good black coffee and the bill just topped £36! Factor in the lovely staff, and the smartest gents toilets I've been in(!), and you must give this place a try.

We came here for our mum's surprise 60th birthday party. The staff were grateful and extremely helpful. As there was a large number of us they gave us their back room which can be curtained off. There's a table with comfy sofas by a fire so everyone could really enjoy themselves without fear of interupting others. We were allowed in early to decorate. We were helped with stuff we'd forgotten. The food was amazing and we all had a great time. Thank you everyone at the swan

We called in for lunch for the first time since new owners had taken over. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful.Great choice of menu for the meat eating contingent, however given the variety of menu catering for them the choice of vegetarian option was very disappointing, and nothing on the wonderful specials board.Food came quickly was high quality mostly locally sourced and tasted delicious. Wonderful service from the staff throughout. For non vegetarians this is a wonderful eatery that I would recommend, for vegetarians whilst the food was wonderful on the matter of choice the report would say 'could do better', for vegans there was no option at all.

We came here as a last minute having been disappointed at another local pub. My wife and I both had the steak and it was cooked exactly how we asked. We also had quick friendly service, what more could you ask in a small country village. Defiantly recommend!

This pub has been transformed by the current owners and we are now proud to have a great local pub that also serves excellent food and really cares about it's customers. We also held our annual club dinner here in early January and the team went out of their way to make the night an exceptionally slick operation - even managing to feed around 30 beef wellingtons and have the beef perfectly cooked! Nothing was too much fuss and the waiting staff and Anthony looked after us brilliantly. Well done all. We'll be back next year (if you'll have us!)

Talk about a surprise. Most pub food is just that, something to wash down a pint. The Swan is a completely different story. Using fresh ingredients and a light touch in the kitchen, the food a delicious complement to a fine beer offering. Definitely worth a stop!

Each time you visit The Swan you are warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. I have yet to eat here but the menu and food look great, and I plan to on my next visit to the area. The new owners have done a great job renovating this pub it is modern and clean without losing the atmosphere of a country local. I would definitely recommended a visit.

The Swan is a busy establishment as both a pub and restaurant. It soon became clear why. Arriving in plenty of time I had bad news for the Landlord that one of the three booked to dine had to cancel so we would be two. Not a problem. The bar area was thriving and it's clear why. The ales were excellent with a good choice and the staff were attentive and professional. When we went through to the restaurant area it was difficult to understand how they had achieved a feeling of space and room and yet still managed to make it feel cosy. I felt an excellent balance had been achieved in that it had a country and rustic feel but also clean and very professional. We were there to chat and the staff seemed clearly to catch on to this. Their appearances were timely and not invasive. The orders were taken and delivered without error or interruption. I was dining with someone that is quite well known locally but the staff were professional throughout. We went for a four course option and the food was extremely good. I had baked Camembert, Lamb shank and Sticky Toffee pud and all three were first rate. I chose the cheapest wine from the list based on my company being antipodean and it was a good choice but very reasonable at £14. If I was being particularly picky the cheese board could have been more inventive but a Cheddar, Brie and blue cheese will satisfy most. Some celery and/or grapes/apple would have been a good accompaniment. The coffee finished the meal off well but I always feel sachets of sugar are poor value. A small ramekin of white and brown cubes is a much nicer finish and allows the diner to choose which, and how much, sugar. But I AM being picky there.

We had the most enjoyable evening . I had asked for a table in a quiet area and this had been arranged for us. There was a wonderful selection of food which was cooked to perfection and the staff were courteous and welcoming. I would highly recommend The Swan and we will certainly return as I think we will find it hard to find anything better.

If you want perfection this is not the place for you... However, that said, we spent a lovely couple of nights, in a 12th century Inn. Adam and his team are lovely, friendly and more than helpful. The hot water in the room seemed a bit hit and miss but the room was clean and comfortable. On the whole we were made to feel very welcome and really enjoyed our visit. Thanks guys 😊

Very welcoming, accepts dogs, good English food, very reasonably priced and lovely service. Inside it’s a bit worn down and dated but didn’t bother us as it had everything we wanted.

It’s a shame that the staff are the rudest people in the town. They lie, make excuses and are incredibly rude. It’s a shame because this used to be the best fish and chip shop in the area but even their delivery staff say that it’s unhygienic to deliver and someone had food poisoning (according to their own delivery man who I have recorded on the door cam!)
