Lovely meal last night. All the food was lovely, Duck was especially good, beautifully tender. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Good atmosphere and choice of drinks.

We booked and reconfirmed the table. Arrived to be told there was no booking. Repeatedly told us that there was definitely no booking. Begrudgingly told us we could stay and gave us a tiny table by the back door. Then said the kitchen was closing in ten minutes. We asked to see the manager, told him about his useless staff and decided to go home.

Sunday roast not quite up to the usual standard, but still a good meal.

An unplanned drop-in on my journey home from Gloucester, Sunday lunchtime. I assumed I'd not get any food since I had no reservation and the place was pretty full. However, the staff were very pleasant and managed to get me a table. It is a homely, warm atmosphere in a beautiful location with great views (seen through the patio doors). I look forward to returning with friends in sunnier weather when the outside area is open. I was pleased to get a nice pint of Butty Bach that hadn't been over-chilled (as it is in some pubs). The nut roast I had, with plenty of roasties, yorks. pud and plenty of fresh veg was superb and served quickly. Perfect.

Have always made a beeline for this pub when we visit the area and always had great food. However on our most recent visit the food was not as expected. My wife chose the duck which she enjoyed and said was okay, I went for the vegetarian moussaka which in no way resembled anything I’ve had before ( I’ve had a few) One slice of aubergine in the middle of the plate sprinkled with cheese a few green beans six olives and four new potatoes cut in half IS NOT a moussaka. Just under £20 for what can only be described as a child’s portion 🤬 Needless to say will not be returning .

Fabulous stop for food with our 2 dogs. Superbly welcoming and food was amazing.

Have just had a very lovely Sunday lunch in this pub and I must thank the lovely waitress who took our order an listened to what we said and to the chef for a very hot plate I got it is a thing I like the lunch fresh tasty and hot and the service spot on

Although its handy and local ... cannot say I have been a regular as its been a bit hit and miss (certainly across our 4 or 5 visits over last two years). Last week ... comfortably the worst dining experience as a customer in living memory. I suspect this phrase gets used a lot but I cant think of anything more appropriate than ..."never again".

Wow ! Had never been here before , but had passed it. Went a Sunday afternoon and had booked. Got there early, and went into the garden for a drink . Lovely garden with shelter and patio heaters if needed. Great views. My wife and I both had a roast, lamb, and beef. Loads of meat , and well presented, with vegetables to share , loads of food , really good value. Quality. No room for pudding , was stuffed. Shame . Service was spot on , polite, and helpful. Will definitely be going back

Visiting family in Gloucester and decided to walk here for a couple of pints with the dogs and some lunch... Decided on the 6oz steak as was lunchtime and wasn't that hungry.... This was probably the best steak I've ever eaten.. came with chips and salad and a dressing... The steak was absolutely melt in your mouth... Locally reared.... Just goes to show how good local produce can be.... Staff were above and beyond friendly as well.... It's not Cheep.. but not over priced... Just goes to show you do get what you pay for.... 👌👌👌

Lovely location with great views out in the back garden. Friendly, helpful staff and delicious food. A few more starters and mains to choose from would make us visit a little more regularly. But will still definitely return.

This is a lovely venue, great food and attentive staff. My only complaint would be that if you sit outside on the patio you can not use the umbrellas. Apparently the glass table tops are the problem and may crack. Yesterday was very hot and sunny and we had to sit under the smoking area to be shielded from the sun. Completely missing the beautiful views. Maybe rearranging the patio area with tables that can have umbrellas would be a positive bonus.

Great food, service and staff good, only thing that let the evening down was to have a group of young people constantly arguing and swearing

Came across this gem of a pub after booking a BnB down the road called hillvine who recommended the royal exchange. Absolutely brilliant, the staff were excellent and very professional, the food was amazing and well worth the money. And the added bonus on such a sunny Saturday evening was sitting outside after we ate with a drink in the beer garden with those views. Will definitely be back 😀

Great food. Lovely starters! Main courses were excellent. The best vegetable moussaka I’ve ever tried with well considered sides of new pots, green beans and olives. Yummy The surf and turf were equally delicious and tasty

The 3 vegetarian options on the menu were all vegan- 2 pasta dishes and a Moussaka which is traditionally made with dairy products. There was nothing I could really pick from the menu that I would have wanted to eat. So I ordered breaded brie from the starter menu. Unfortunately at least one of the brie wedges was more or less empty, devoid of brie. My partner ordered the vegan moussaka, which came absolutely smothered in olives, even though these were not mentioned on the menu. We both detest olives. He would never had ordered that dish had he known it came smothered with olives, or at the very least he would definitely have asked for them to be left off. Our server was keen to point out that we were wrong to suggest that the olives should have been mentioned on the menu. They were thorough about asking us if we had any allergies or intolerances but what about dislikes?! Why on earth would we want to pay almost £20 for a meal we didn't like? Not impressed that she argued with us. We felt like total nuisance customers; we shouldn't have been made to feel like we were a nuisance; we should have had a decent choice on the menu. We're not vegan, we're vegetarian. Don't think that's so unusual. Totally disappointing evening.

I was treating my grandparents staying for the weekend and decided to try the Royal Exchange pub in Hartpury. I have never met such lovely and kind staff! The food was incredible! My grandparents were extremely impressed and satisfied with the food and service also! Definitely going to be a regular pub for us now not to mention the beautiful scenery so I will definitely be returning and bringing my friends along also!

Had dinner here with friends before attending a show at the local village hall. Food was good pub grub (I had a steak and ale pie which was delicious). Very friendly service and a good atmosphere.

I usually have dinner at The Royal Exchange when I come home, it's so close to my folks' place. The food and service is always good. Tonight I treated my parents, they rarely spend much eating out, but they loved it and that made me very happy. Lovely meal and lovely service. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

Celebrated a special birthday here- all the staff were so welcoming, really good atmosphere + dog friendly. The food was very good- the seabass in particular was excellent. All the portions were of a very good size too. Will be coming back again

Warm welcome from staff, log fires burning, table with a wonderful view across Hartpury, excellent choice of meals, attentive and friendly service, good value for money and a warm and welcoming place to enjoy lunch with friends. Can recommend the Mushroom Risotto, delicious, Friends also recommended the ham hock terrine. Need to book, but so worth a visit.

Have not been for a while we had a lovely table in the corner with great views salmon and prawn cocktail looked very pretty and was lovely followed by a turkey roast dinner served at my request on extra hot plates the lunch was very tasty and served with plenty of fresh vegetables and a jug of extra gravy one thing missing the sprouts the service by the young lady who served was excellent well worth a visit and we will be back with friends next year thankyou for a pre Christmas lunch happy Christmas to you all

I went as part of a large group for a Christmas meal on Wednesday evening. The food was excellent, everyone commented on how good it was. Service was brilliant too. I had pre-ordered and instead of trying to remember what I had ordered the serving staff came out with our meals and and knew who had ordered them. This was the same for payment, they knew who had eaten what. A great meal was had by all and compliments must go to the chef and staff for this.

Very much looked forward to having a Christmas lunch (I'd already checked out the menu). However I was surprised to find that the Christmas menu wasn't available. When i mentioned this to the waiter he said he didnt know when the Christmas menu was going to be available but there was some turkey and pigs in blankets in the kitchen and we were welcome to have that! The plate looked OK when it arrived although I did have turkey....and pork....on my plate. I'm just wondering how that happened. And why wasn't the Christmas menu on? I can't see anything on the menu stating otherwise? To be honest the food wasn't very hot. I have eaten here before and it was good.

We had a wonderful meal good size portions and fair pricing ,Our visitors from Poland said the atmosphere was brilliant, Service from Jo and Izzy was excellent. a great night had by all thank you .

It's a really nice village pub.

We went into The Royal Exchange expecting the usual ho-hum pub food and walked out completely blown away by a fantastic meal prepared and presented beautifully. This fantastic country pub has such a lovely buzz when you walk in - we were greeted warmly by the friendly staff. Our server, Jo, was absolutely lovely and patient with us while we asked questions about the menu, and she was careful to check that we didn't have any allergies. We asked a few questions about the pub and the local area and when she didn't know the answer, she went above and beyond to find out. The food itself was delicious! My husband had the cod loin wrapped in salmon special and I had the chicken ballotine in tarragon butter sauce. It was beautifully plated - as pretty as anything in a fancy London restaurant with great portions and a reasonable price. We will DEFNITELY be heading back to this location again.

Went for lunch at the Royal Exchange and we weren't disappointed. The food was delicious. The portions were very generous. You could tell the food was freshly cooked. The service was very prompt and our waitress was very friendly but not too in your face if that makes sense.

We’ve just had a great meal here. Lots of gluten free options. The vegan, GF curry with crispy courgette was amazing! Our lovely waitress Jo was great, she even brought my friend sone mango chutney to go on his beef pie!! 😂 Highly recommended
