I try to avoid McDonalds, so thought I'd try this place. 20 minutes after ordering my food, I ask where it is, to be met with blank stares, at which point they promise to start it straight away, as if they're doing me a favour.

As we drove into the M1 Services we were quietly despairing We had set off from Tunbridge Wells at 11am and ,here we are, at Northampton Services at 7pm !! Forget our visit to see friends in Derby- had to cancel that So we looked for food The Fresh Food Cafe was our choice as we both are low fat etc etc! The facility was clean and had good choices on the menu for such a small area We asked for jacket potatoes but as they were just starting to cook them we opted for lasagne

Recently travelling back from Luton Airport to Coventry and had a breakdown. The AA recovered us here, and whilst we awaited further assistance we decided to get some food. I was 6 days post operation, on a liquid only diet. I went to the Fresh Food Cafe and ordered their Thai Curry Soup, it tasted delicious, but I discovered it was lumper than I had expected. When I explained & asked if they had a blender they said they didn't. I was gutted as the soup was delicious. Then, Elston, the server approached us and said he would ask Costa if he could use theirs. Surprised and sceptical we watched him walk off, only for him to arrive 2 mins later with a perfectly smooth soup - which I will state again, tasted amazing, now even better as he had added a dash of Costa cream...Thank you for making a horrible day, better x

Travelling south to London our coach driver decided to stop off here for us to have lunch. There is a McDonalds and a Costa, but we wanted more than Costa offered but didn't want a burger, so we chose this outlet although it had the longer queue. We only ordered soup, which had to be heated, but waited 20 minutes. Our coach was ready to leave, so we said we wanted a refund but miraculously they produced the soup.Very, very slow service.

Stopped here yesterday (27th July 2015) on way from Nottingham to London for a quick lunch and a coffee. We did debate beforehand whether to continue to the next service station where we knew there was an M&S, but decided to chance this one as we were hungry. Inside there were 3 choices of McDonalds, Costa and Fresh Food Cafe. My friend went for Costa, and my partner and I went for Fresh Food Cafe.I picked out a piri piri chicken wrap and took it to the counter and paid - no problems. My partner ordered a toasted ciabatta and a cappucino, at which point the man behind the counter said he would chase it up with the chef. My partner explained that he wasn't already waiting for one, he was just placing an order and wanted to pay. The man looked confused but then it dawned on him and he took the money and passed the order to the chef.At this point I went to sit with my friend who was already eating his lunch from Costa. I opened my wrap to find it was completely wet through and stuck to the packet. I did my best to prise it out but it was so soggy that most of it tore. I ate one half of it but did not find any chicken, only lots of tomato and some mayonnaise. I tore open the rest of the packet and again found no chicken in the other half, only tomato and mayonnaise. I ate as much as I could but it tasted disgusting and was making me feel a bit sick, and as we wanted to get on with our journey I just made a note not to eat from Fresh Food Cafe again.15 minutes later I had finished trying to eat my disgusting wrap, but my partner was still waiting for his ciabatta. He asked the staff how long it would be, at which point it transpired that they had completely forgotten his order. They then started to make his coffee, but they were pouring it wrong and it too looked disgusting, any my partner said he would rather not have it. He asked for a refund and they just gave it like it was a regular request, and did not even apologise. The woman who'd been in front of me in the queue was also still waiting for her food to be toasted. I went to sit down again and an elderly couple sitting at a table next to ours were also still waiting for their food and had been for some time. A different member of staff then came over to the couple and asked for a reminder of what they'd ordered!! My partner went to Costa instead, while I wished I had gone there myself. There were around 6 members of staff behind the counter, and not one of them were capable or taking an order, delivering an order, putting the correct ingredients in an overpriced wrap, or toasting a ciabatta. It seemed like nobody cared, and sadly people will just put up with this kind of service and bad quality because they have very few other choices and just want to get on with their journeys.Next time we do this journey we will go with our first instincts and drive a bit further to go to M&S!

Service was great (especially Kayla who was happy to be named). Great selection on the menu, we both had the signature burger that was a generous size. Happy to recommend.

The food is good, but everything else gets worse!!! One lady at the till who was taking money and orders plus bringing the food out!! Firstly the electronic order point said most meals were not available (but they were), then when we did order the food and drink we found we had to clear a table! One coffee machine was empty (more lack of staff) the hot water machine was out of order! When I asked two ladies for condiments they said we don't do them any more, but you can buy mustard in the store!! When I pointed to sachets on a dirty table they said oh! I have a taste card and a Morrisons card, they don't have a barcode reader at the till and said we can't give you the 25% discount because we don't know how.... What a bloody shambles!

Upon arriving there weren’t many people in the restaurant. We ordered 2 portions of mac and cheese, a child’s chicken nuggets and chips and a cold sandwich. All the hot food was stone cold. I spent 10 minutes searching through the utensils pot to try and find a clean set. The hot drinks from the hot machine were cold and the mugs were dirty. The staff were rude and when giving them our dirty plates he slammed them down on the table and walked away. Overall, not worth it, never coming back
