The Britannia in Northampton

Cosy decor inside, lovely view of the canal outside, staff are always pleasant and food is always very tasty. I would recommend booking if you plan on going at peak times.

Haven’t been here for years the food was excellent and Jake who looked after us was very friendly and helpful , what a lovely young man .

I'm currently away from home with work and was really pleased with the customer service at the Brittania I was served by Sam his customer service along with the food was excellent

Had a lovely birthday meal with family, food was delicious and was looked after extremely well by Claire and the team, new to the area and the purple had lots to offer. We will be back! 🥰

Poor == UPDATE - January 2025 == Booked for a Sunday lunch here, as my preference - the Rose and Crown at Yardley Hastings - was booked up. My suggestion to you is to book the Rose and Crown further in advance.

I Enjoyed my time at Britannia, the staff were really welcoming and friendly, they sat me down straight away, they gave me suggestions on what to eat as I’m a fussy eater. The food was sensational and really well cooked. Would definitely be back and recommend to my friends

Fantastic pub and atmosphere. Lovely food and drinks. Great value for money. Claire, the assistant manager was exceptional in her service and made us feel really welcome. She couldn’t do enough for us.

The place was almost empty. Never a good sign! Our party had one starter and three mains. My starter ( £7) was two hard toasts with two small mushrooms with a tablespoon of single cream sauce. Most uninspiring and no taste to boot! My daughter had the chicken (£17)that was way overcooked and dry, failer two. My wife had the hand battered fish and chips (£20) the fish was frozen, tasteless with a terrible soggy batter and the scampy ( £2-50) was tasteless too. I had the steak pie (£18) which looked impressive until you opened it up and the meat was fatty with one undercooked calebrese and one overcooked. Not forgetting the hard peas of course. All the meals came with low quality oven type chips. Obviously they don't employ a proper chef but still want to charge premium prices. If you want this quality of food just pop up the road to the Queen Eleanor you will save at least 50%. We didn't bother with sweets as we thought freshly cooked food well done was beyond this place! Left never to return and would advice anyone else to give it a wide berth!

Really nice brunch , everything came out quickly, hot , freshly cooked, very tasty sausage, the bacon was cooked to my liking, even the kids breakfast was quite a big meal. Other items on the menu also looked nice. Will be back again soon.

Service was great (especially Kayla who was happy to be named). Great selection on the menu, we both had the signature burger that was a generous size. Happy to recommend.

It is my Birthday today so we went to the Britannia for a meal. I booked on line and my request for a table by the open fire was honoured. Sam was looking after us and he is a real asset to your company, nothing is too much trouble, friendly, polite, a real pleasure to be served by him. The food was fantastic, I had the vegetarian burger my husband the sea bass, both delicious and I even manged a dessert which too was scrumptious. The portion sizes are great (I have a healthy appetite) and was extremely satisfied and full when I left. I've booked again for Friday to go with the girls from work..can't wait.

We had the Sunday Roast. The food had obviously all been pre-cooked and then heated up. The food looked and tasted absolutely terrible. You could use the Yorkshire puddings as rocks. A shame as the ambience and service were good and the pub/restaurant is lovely since it’s been modernised but the food really leaves little to be desired (the Sunday roast anyway!)

8 of us went out to celebrate my husband’s birthday at The Britannia. The food was as delicious as ever, in fact every plate was empty, so that’s always a good sign! The lamb shank shepherds pie is amazing!! Sam (our waiter) looked after us from arrival until departure and what a credit he is to you! He had full knowledge of the menu, laughed and joked with us, regularly checked to see if we needed more drinks, but without being pushy. What a star he is!! We will be back soon!! Thanks to the chef for the amazing food and of course to Sam!!

We went to the Britannia for our lunch on Christmas Day. It was perfect in every way, from the attentiveness of the staff, the amazing food and the beautiful decor complete with roaring log fire.

My father popped in for a drink, found the service to be very good and wanted to share a review about how he was made to feel welcome without judgement. He was looked after by Sam, Angel and Ollie from the kitchen, and found the experience to beyond his expectations!

Came here for a Boxing Day meal was told we could have normal menu and was told last minute we had to have festive menu… meals came and vegetables weren’t editable rock solid the kids meals were missing items didn’t even get an apology… when it come to the desserts they didn’t have all tht was advertised and what came was underwhelming Christmas pudding was more like fruit cake and kids ice cream was again missing items… drinks took 15 mins to come and it weren’t even busy… very disappointing

Such a shame. It’s such a lovely pub but the food is hit and miss. We had a lovely Sunday lunch there a few months ago. This time the calamari starter was awful. Chewy in tasteless batter and they weren’t hot so I think they had been standing for a while before being bought out. There was oil from the fryer on the plate which looked like it hadn’t been changed for weeks. And as for the garnish! Soggy old watercress. The whole thing was just yuk. The Mediterranean roast veg tart was mostly peas! And some soggy old fried potatoes….

Unfortunately the service was incredibly slow, food eventually came out but parts of three dishes were missing! The pie only had three pieces of meat and lots of gravy. One dish was overcooked and the lamb needed a steak knife. Worst meal out ever.

Had a great lunch at Britannia which is a little gem on the edge of Northampton. Service was great, the food came out hot, in good time & you could tell it was freshly prepared. Portion sizes mean you won't leave on an empty stomach but there is still space for something after and we managed to grab a table by one of the fires. Will definitely be visiting again and getting a Sunday lunch booked in!

Dreadful experience, service very slow, panfried chicken breast is a joke, thin slice of chicken, 3 cubes of potato and a bit of cabbage no onions as advertised, definitely not worth £11.99? Vegetable soup looked like the remains of Sunday lunch put into boiling water, chicken and bacon sandwich was hunt for the filling. Will definitely not be going back, not sure how they get away with serving these sort of meals for the price.

Service very slow. Meal from lunch time menu, grilled chicken was dreadful, tiny piece of chicken, looked like left over vegetables and roast potatoe for £11, very small portion for the price.

It's a lovely place inside, really cosy. The food was not great. Everything was very chewy and the calamari had very little flavour. The waiter also took away our starter plates and then offered us dessert which was a simple mistake but not expected given how nice it is inside.

Well if you like a long wait the service seems to be for regular clients the food I would say is not good and over priced when we got there the older lady was slamming doors looking for meaus and made myself and the younger lady nervous and was rude to not even wait to slam around when a Cilent is awaiting to be seated I would advise to go to somewhere that can give you a all round service once seated took awhile for someone to take order and than the food the pie was a pre heat and broccoli tasted old please turn around and go somewhere that gives you a smile and good food and service not provided here

Just got in from a night at the Britannia. Booked the table for 5pm, such a lovely atmosphere we sat and chatted for ages. Great food, drinks variety was good too. Clare looked after us very well, checking in to see if we were okay, and leaving us in peace to catch up with each other. Would recommend to anyone, a wonderful evening. Thanks again Clare

Nice pub. The food is great and well priced. The service was a little slow. After being shown to our seats, it took about 10 minutes to place our drinks order, then another 22 minutes to place our food order. Tried the special mixed grill, which I can say was delicious Would have stayed for desert, but due to the length of time it took for the mains, I had to leave The lighting is a little poor as it was hard to read the menus

This was our first time going here and omg the food is amazing, the other half has the game mixed grill, the meat just fell off the bone of the duck, i had the fish pie, it was filled with fish and tasted amazing, I'd you have room I would definitely recommend the bakewell tart, absolutely stunning, will so be going back, food and staff are amazing

I’ve been to the Britannia a few times and it never disappoints. The pub is cosy but modern and the food is always delicious. The service is great, even with large groups. Sam and Alex did a great job at serving us.

Truly shocking food. (See photos)the kids pasta was honestly vile. Roast was mainly fat and bone and the roast potatoes were white and undercooked as well as the parsnips. We didn't stay to eat and just sent it back. We used to come here often and the food was good so im unsure what has happen. Starter of goats cheese was nice and the kids garlic bread was nice too. Staff were friendly and helpful. ( They charge £18.99 for the roast)

Very unhappy with the food today had a fish pie which was 19 lbs. 43. It was absolutely awful will never ever recommend that place. Thank you.

We had the chefs special mixed grill. It was superb! Beautifully cooked and presented. Sam was the best waiter, so enthusiastic, happy and engaging. He's a great staff member. Thank you Sam! He was also training a member of staff and showing great people skills. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

Since updating this pub. Service has got worst. The bar is all now too small for size of pub. Wait ages to be served and less selection now since revamp. Colour scheme all wrong green yuk. No Green King you got revamp all wrong yet again after the abissmal royal navy grey scheme. Gone from bad to worst. Also over hyped prices in uk pubs compared to abroad

What a lovely evening with my family - Sam was exceptional in his client care and looking after us - really difficult group we are with many allergies and also gluten issues - Sam ensured and checked that we were all safe and went out of his way to make it excellent

Sam was our main waiter on a fairly late Sunday evening service... Obviously, there was a few choices by this time that the kitchen had ran out of... there was also the fact that two members of our party had nut allergies, and one had to have gluten-free (or rather non-gluten containing), least to mention the occasional picky eater. At first, the special non-gluten menu couldn't be located but Sam worked it out and managed to get a bespoke version available. There were multiple moments that Sam went the extra mile and we all couldn't be happier with his superb service and attention to detail. Thank you, Sam!
