We met with friends at the cafe at Blue Hills Farm this morning. The experience we had was almost out of a comedy sketch and we ended up walking out after receiving refunds for what we had ordered. A regular of tea and a decaf tea were ordered. A cup of, tea (complete with teabag still in it) was almost bounced on he table. There was no saucer, spoon or milk supplied. We were told that there was no decaf so did we want anything else. The 'waitress' then walked off without waiting for a reply. Also, we tried to order an all day breakfast with one of the other members of staff. We were asked "large or small?". Having replied that we didn't realise there were two to choose from and asked what the difference was we were told "One is a bit bigger than the other". There was another customer group of three who had ordered and already been served with their food. They also commented to us upon the bad service. We have never felt so unwelcome in a cafe before. Ironically there was a 'Welcome' sign at the entrance to the cafe. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Came here on a saturday, first time visiting, the petting zoo advertised on the website was non existent, was basically a field with 2 emu's but nothing else. Had lunch in the cafe, service was very slow and it took well over half an hour for 2 sandwiches to arrive. The children are unsupervised 70% of the time in the large play area, some kids even had their shoes on. The shop was untidy and deserted, looked more like a warehouse. The toddlers play area upstairs is ok but was a long way for is to travel on public transport just for a 2 hour soft play and a sandwich

So, l had heard good reviews on the afternoon tea and it was also recommended by my niece too. The food was good with a great selection too. Our picnic table came with 2 lots of beef, which was tender to eat. The staff were friendly and greeted us with a smile too, also checking on us to see if everything was ok. The reason l have given it 3 stars is because the restaurant is (definitely from where we were sitting) looking a tad tired. Our chair seats were pretty stained and dirty, the floor was not clean full of crumbs and leftovers from the previous diners. Stair carpet was tired and could do with a wash too. Only 1 toilet was available which is fair enough if it's broken that can't be helped. But no toilet paper or hand towels to dry your hands in the one ladies toilet. Would l recommend? Yep, may be but l think you could find a cleaner establishment too that offers the same deal.

This place was probably was good back when first opened but now very tired. Steps up to cafe so not ideal for pushchairs , seating area upstairs you can not see the children playing but if sit downstairs its freezing cold. Crumbs all over floor first thing in morning, tables grimy. The owner did start to clean them but nearly 'gassed' us because squirted cleaner so near to us it engulfed us. The park outdoors is dangerous , there were wires and rope just laid around and tbh the play equipment looked very dated and not up to today's standards. The little area where animals are is very scruffy. Our first visit and unfortunately will be last , much better value from other nearby play areas

2 hour wait for 2 adult and 2 kids meals. The children (14 to 15 year old girls) that this place hires to work the kitchen were running around tickling each other while we had to wait for the food. The place itself is like stepping back 20 years. Outdated facilities, poor service and dirty surroundings. It is half-term week and we expected it to be busy but the infrastructure is not there. The owner was sat in the corner watching the place fall apart and made no attempt to keep anyone happy throughout my visit. All the tables around us had more than out waited any reasonable timeframes. We wont be returning any time soon.

If you want a good hearty all day breakfast at a reasonable price this is the place for you. Great place for families to see the animals and play in the indoor play centre. Also good fresh vegetables and meats to buy with delicious homemade cakes also.

the bonus here is the food and English Breakfast's are very good and worth a visit and so is also the Butchers Farm shop. Excellent value and delicious meat pies. Kiddies will enjoy looking at the small range of farm animals. Have purchased meat and pies since 1974 and they are still as good now as they were then.

We've visited here many times purely for the fact the kids absolutely love the playbarn. Yes it's not a brand new state of the art chain of pub style play gyms. It's a barn, in a farm hence the name! What do people really expect? No its not the cleanest place I've ever been no, it's on a farm for god sake! But the food is lovely, the staff are helpful and the kids LOVE it!

Just been today after avoiding it for 10 years. Thought it would have changed to keep up with other surrounding farm shop cafes. It hasn't. The hot sandwiches were lovely. The service poor - no glass brought out for 2 small cans of pop (why they haven't got normal sized cans I've no idea!). The latte looked to have scum you get in the sea on top rather than froth. Cutlery was on the counter but wasn't pointed out to us, nor were we asked if we wanted any. Tables dirty. Plates left uncollected. The waitress was bringing food out and taking back an empty tray. Why, when there was so much to clean up? The carpet looked like a war zone. Old 5 star hygiene ratings from 2011 were displayed on the wall. It needs a total refurb and rethink to get with the times! You can't get into other local farm shop cafes without a wait normally on a Sunday lunch. The animals outside looked as depressed as I felt.... Grim, grim, grim.

Arrived in the cafe 35 minutes before closing time to be greeted with a very rude member of staff, we ordered our food which was 2 English breakfasts and 2 drinks. We then over heard one of the other members of staff saying that they should of only allowed us to have sandwiches this close to closing time (would of been happy to order a sandwich if they had informed us of this when we went to order) but they didn't. Another also very rude member of staff brought out our food which we ate very quickly as I'm very aware that people would not want to be kept back at work longer than the time they need to be! After finishing our food with about 10 minutes to closing time we continued with our drinks, at about 4.55 the lights in the restaurant were turned off (guessing this was to hurry us up even more) most of the staff then left as we packed away. My partner then politely said to the lady there that he was sorry to have came in so late as we weren't aware of the closing time to which he expected something along the lines of 'oh it's okay' which any polite person in any other restaurant would say even really they wanted to shout at you to leave so they could get home on time (baring in mind it was not 5 yet so we weren't there longer than closing time) instead of a polite reply he was abruptly told well everybody likes to leave at 5....1. He was not disputing the fact that everyone wants to finish at the time they are supposed to! 2. We did not cause anyone to leave later than they should of! Overall, everyone was very very rude and could not of made us feel any less welcome if they tried. We will 100% not be returning which is a shame as we had no complaints about the shop or the food. Just a shame about the staff, absolutely terrible.

What a waste of money! "The Hay Loft Cafe" at Blue Hills Farm.Raw sausage in a sausage and egg sandwich. The pictures show it clearly. I'm so relieved it was my sandwich not my young daughters, who wouldn't have noticed the rawness of the sausage after 1 bite and spat it out, as I did! Raw pork!! And to top it off terrible customer service, rude staff member at point of order. Just wanted to leave once my daughter had eaten her cured ham sandwich. Didn't complain directly, will complain to EHO directly, especially as I can't seem to find a food hygiene rating registered anywhere!! NEVER GOING BACK AND WOULD DISCOURAGE ANYONE WHOS THINKING OF GOING. Don't waste your time and money!

My husband has just been to blue hills farm as they sell scaffolding boards cheap to builders! After asking the owners wife about them, he was escorted into the their home where he was very polite at first. when my husband asked if there was any boards for sale he said that there was a few out side and if he found what he wanted they would be sold at £4 each!! After finding two boards that he wanted he went back to the house to tell the owner, where he was subject to some terrible vile abuse from him!!! We have been regular customers for many years to both the farm shop and the play gym! We will NEVER step foot near that place again. The man is a disgrace, his poor wife didn't know where to put herself!!

We visited on tuesday and spent £25 on food & drinks.my 2yr old grandaughter was sat on a chair and when her dad passed her food his new trousers were ripped on a nail that was sticking out of her chair.I immediately alerted 1 of the staff who was very rude and arrogant and just turned her back on me.I went to ask another member of staff who brought another lady and the owner. The owner said 'well i dont know what to say'.I said well put it this way he came in new pants and due to your unsafe chair hes going home with ripped ones. The lady replied well they dong look new. These were hugo boss and were a gift for xmas.I showed them both that they are new and still on sale. The owner mr ives then said bring the pants in tomorrow and i will see what we can do.We purchased some new trousers after our visit to bluehills at a cost of £59 and went back with the torn trousers and the reciept and the new trousers only to be told that he does not have to refund us and he will not compensate us for the damagr caused by his unsafe and dangerous chair. Our £25 meal was ruined by the upset on tuesday.I am very annoyed of the owners couldnt care less attitude and feel as this was his property that damaged my sons then he should pay for the damage. This chair could of caused serious damage to a child and when we said that his reply was its all ifs.We use to go to bluehills a lot with our grandaughter and friends and family but after this we will not be going back. The owner i use to think was a decent chap but after this experience i think hes totally out of order. He has lost our loyal custom but he obviously doesnt care.

I brought my 2 year old here yesterday. In terms of the playgym it was good and the play equipment was pretty extensive (although there were clumps of dust all over! ). When we first walked in I found it dark and cold and hadn't realised there was an under 5s bit upstairs til we headed for lunch. This proved better for us in the end as the more kids arrived the rougher it got in the main area (as is usually the case at a playgym). I can't give this place anymore than an average rating however because the food was pretty awful. We queued for about 15 minutes for a start which drove my 2 year old cuckoo! I thought this was ridiculous as the queue wasn't huge. For a farm shop I guess I expected way more having eaten at the cafes of other local farm shops. For a place aimed at kids the choice for them was rubbish..everything with chips and peas or beans. Surely a farm shop can do much better. When it arrived it was cold and bland and I was glad to get dinner out if the way. To be fair we had lots of fun after but it's more an early morning visit and lunch at home place for me unless they drastically improve their food choices for children (and adults to be honest) as well as the quality. at least lunch was only £7 !

The farm shop is full of fresh veg, fruit and salad, there is pet food available. Fresh and frozen food/meat. Prices are very reasonable. Staff are helpful. The cafe is quaint. Enjoyed a delicious bacon sandwich on gluten free bread. Unfortunately there isn't much choice other than salad, chips or sandwiches. My husband enjoyed the quiche which is freshly baked in the farm. In the shop there is a whole array of freshly baked good. (Non gluten free ) however our over all visit has been lovely. There is an indoor play barn for children and plenty of animals for the you and children to see. It's definitely worth a visit.

Visited the café this week for lunch. Not many people eating, but lots of dirty crockery on a lot of the empty tables. Had to wait to order. Ordered Panini, and cheesy chips and a breadcake, and two glasses of tap water. Could not believe they charged 50p for tap water ! Every other place I have requested this have provided this with ice/lemon and no charge. Have to admit the portion of cheesy chips was very small but I have to be honest and say they were the best I had ever had. Had to wait ages for the food to be brought, but 8 fireman followed us in and got their food immediately (presume they had telephoned their order). We were in about an hour and during that time no tables were cleared and as we left there was one couple eating and the rest of the tables had dirty crockery on ! please note this is a review of the hay loft café, not the playbarn nor the café in the playbarn.

I had my first visit here and loved it, food in the farm shop was extremely cheap and the lamb burgers are to die for.all the packaging is basic don't let this put you off, 7 of us had dinner for £30 in the caste, Which was amazing. Lovely home made tasty food, yes staffed we're rushed off their feet but it was extremely busy but none of them were stood idle and all helpful. You could see it it a family run establishment with everyone chipping in, which I would personally rather give my hard earned money to, rather than some corporate fat cat giant business for tasteless food. It really was home from home and will be returning for some more lemon slab cake soon!

Have visited this venue several times and kids love it- it caters for all ages and has plenty of room for the adults to sit. That's all the good points. The nightmare comes when you want to order food and drinks. There is one queue for all and you can be waiting 30 minutes just to order. The staff are great but they are totally overworked and probably underpaid. You can then wait another 30 mins for food to arrive. There just seems to be a total lack of organisation. The other problem, again due to staff shortage, is the length of time taken to clear away the tables. If they would just employ more staff this place would be so much better.

an early Sunday morning visit for all the family started with a wander round the farm shop.£50 we spent in there then up the steps for a full English.we walked through a door at the top of the steps & was greeted by "your not meant to use that door!!" Even though it was wide open. Then we got "how olds he??" I said he's 3 "that'll be £4 then!" I said you can wait til ive got sat down & ordered our food! I assume it's the farmers wife? No doubt decades of screaming at animals as put her in good stead to work at the counter of a kiddies play area! The facilities at this place are great.breaky was good but some of the staff need updating.i asked the butcher if I paid him for the play barn as we were a tad early but he said they'll take it upstairs.

We had not been to this Ikea for over 2 years so it was a complete shock to see how much this restaurant had deteriorated. We waited over 30 minutes in a relatively small queue . Once we got our meals, we proceeded to pay, where when we arrived, we were told to go to the next till as she was going in her break! We had to rejoin a queue on the other side, where we were then charged for a drink we didn’t have and 4 extra meatballs we didn’t have! The till lady then told remaining people behind us that she was also going in her break and to join the other till where no staff member was?!? Head office need to do something asap
