Great spoons cheaper than most and warm and friendly

Manageress/supervisor on 20th october 24 is ignorant, rude, and lazy. Huge attitude problem. Her customer service skills are shocking !. I complained about a flat pint and dirty cutlery with dried on food to be met by the worst attitude from the person in charge. Appalling !

Went for the breakfast- very nice. Coffee, tea refills free aswell.

Called in on Sunday lunchtime 1st September around 12.15. Male member of staff took an order for 12 drinks. Only one member of staff serving. Whilst serving us a female member of staff appeared behind the bar and asked if anyone needed serving. When we said we were all together she duly vanished back behind the bar ( after serving one customer) rather than helping the Male member of staff with the large order? No smiling faces or enthusiasm showed at all from the bar staff...obviously not a happy place to work.

Had a fantastic lunch here. Chicken jalfrezi was on offer, £6.15 for Jalfrezi and a Coors. Absolute bargain! Nice pub with friendly staff and great food

Decent large place. A bit regimented with the table settings. Very good service. Let down by people playing their phone on speaker at full volume. Not everyone wants to listen to a match commentary on a tiny speaker. Use your earbuds!

Not the worst spoons you'll find...Nice old building with friendly staff and food good and hot....served quickly via app. Tikka Masala recommended! Been a few times now no complaints one of the better run 'spoonz' nice beer garden for the few sunny days!

A rather tired looking Spoons in what must have been a grand building back in the day. Toilets up several flights of stairs. Staff friendly and efficient.

Once a local bank, The Union Rooms is now a welcome addition to the Wetherspoons chain. A comfortable pub in a nice setting. The pub has all the hallmarks of a 'Spoons pub, booths, tatty and rickety chairs alongside the new and stable ones, dreadful carpet, they're all there. We went in for an 8am breakfast and liked what we found. A friendly member of staff greeted us despite the early start and we placed our brekkie order of two traditional breakfasts and a portion of toast. This breakfast was a certain hit in the hit and miss of 'Spoons cooked breakfasts. Perfect poached eggs, hot and crispy bacon alongside the sausage and almost nuclear reactor temperature of the hash browns. A really enjoyable start to the day and we were more than happy to head off into Yorkshire well fed and happy to pass through Batley. Recommended.

The breakfast was hot and tasty, the service was excellent and quick, and the employees were lovely - very friendly! Atmosphere was quite pleasant.

Love coming to this one. They by far do the best pint of San Miguel. I visit many wetherspoons but still say they do the best pint of it. Foods lovely too

Cold place, cold food and indifferent service......... What should I have expected?????​

Worst Wetherspoons I've been to. REALLY ROUGH. Lots of people f-ing and blinding in earshot of kids, people putting FEET on tables. Barely any staff on, it looked like one person was serving everyone at one point. I got a curry with rice. The waiter came out to tell me they don't have any samosas but they can give me an extra bhaji. The waiter seemed almost afraid to tell me as if he thought I was going to kick off and when I replied cheerfully "Yeah no worries mate" he seemed relieved. The curry and rice were alright for what it was but one of the bhajis was somehow burned to a crisp on the outside and dead cold on the inside! They did replace the one with two bhajis at least. My dining partner ordered a breakfast and said they didn't think it was nice either and they usually like Spoons breakfasts and it's why he wanted to go in the first place.

Came as a family of 6 for a meal. 3 people ordered Lemonade and took it back as it tasted off. The barmaid said that had been a problem all day, but still sold it to us. The two children wanted Jacket potatoes but non available. One of us had a vegan burger that tasted like washing up liquid and the chips were the smallest potion ever. The apple crumble was very a tiny portion and costing over £5 was over priced. The disabled toilet was filthy and no toilet roll in there, The whole place was disgusting and i overheard the staff saying about the amount of refunds they had given back today was terrible. Well needless to say we will not come back to the dump you call Witherspoon's..

I would give less than 1 star if possible. The place used to be great, it's gone drastically downhill fast, appalling food and service.

This is now a great place to go for food, drinks and atmosphere. I had stopped coming here for a while but then a new manager, Ash, took over and he has really brought the pub back to life. This pub used to be very quiet and it had lost its atmosphere but it is now a busy/bustling place with lots of atmosphere and really nice/helpful staff/managers which certainly makes a difference. The food is really nice here which is great as in some other whetherspoons that I've been to, that hasn't always been the case, I would definitely recommend this pub.

Food gives a little plastic vibe but not bad. Using the app for table service is really useful they are fast with the service too. The drinks and food are pretty cheap. Toliets are upstairs like all spoons which can be a pain. They don't play music at this one but that isn't always a bad thing. They do have TV screens up or sports.

The staff are very helpful, work well under pressure. Great service at the bar. Left my medication on the table and the staff were great and made sure it was kept safe for me. I appreciate the hospitality from all the staff at Union rooms. The while team are brilliant.

Beer is kept well. Lower price for Abbot than my hometown of Fleetwood (officially a depressed area) by 54p. Been in two nights on the trot, same cluttered tables with uncleared tables. Mention it to the bar staff, 5 minutes later they were cleared. Indicates lazy manager and/or staff, as its not rocket science to control..

Had this event on our calendar for many weeks the Harry Potter quiz, what a disappointment. The guy with the pony tail said it was on to tell us later it wasn’t due to ONE staff not turning in. Came at 530 to have food at 6 ready for quiz at 7. The sad face so called guy with the top notch wasn’t even interested that our children came dressed up. We were all looking forward to it our party of 8. Asked for the manager to tell us the same and asked us if we would like a free pudding??? Errr no we don’t we want the quiz. They must think a pudding will make things better. Anyway we enjoyed our own company but the staff here are so miserable and DONT care about their customers feelings. Shame on you. A very disappointing night. And I’ve made a full complaint to head office too. I thought your pathetic excuses were disgusting. And our party were far from happy!!!!

OK Wetherspoons. Table was dirty, service was slow to say it wasn't busy. Toilets up a LOT of stairs. No car park although there is a free car park just up the road. Probably won't go again.

Lovely old building, reasonable drinks and quickly served food. Carpet very dated, looks like it was put down in 1996. Didn't really visit for the decor though.

Go here regularly and meet up with three other women. Lovely meal.But even better they have custard back on the menu with apple crumblr ❤️❤️

This was a brilliant pub to go drinking at, with a lush design! This is shown through the decor even at windows, counter is well-presented and offer was on for cheap Edinburgh Gin that was nice. Me and my friend also got to go 2 for 1 on cocktails, sitting comfortably at a circular table!

Great atmosphere food was great £23 for a bbq chicken pizza, 2 small brunch meals 2 cokes & 2 beers.

Curry lush but please give a spoon

Unfortunately when I visited it took forever to get served, due to only 2 staff being on with a busy pub and 1 of those was doing app orders. Also it didn't help the fact the barman did not know who was next and kept asking. I was however impressed how no one pushed in.

Lovely food nice staff cheap too

Food was nice and the service at the bar was great. The staff were friendly and a great help in there knowledge of drinks. Great place to meet people.

Staff not trained to deal with difficult customers, always look miserable, managers not management trained, all extremely young with very little life skills. They enjoy humiliating their customers in front of other customers. Disgusting behaviour. Usually quiet is the only bonus.

Good food and great value for money

Go to the union rooms quite often, food is ok cheap and cheerful. Went in last night Friday to meet friends and have a bite to eat. Been sat at our table a good two hours drinking and decided to order our food. We put our order in at 630 pm shortly after think it was the bar manager put a slip on our table reserved !! ( at 7) so rude she was told us there’s a quiz and we would have to move. NO CUSTOMER CARE AT ALL!!. Obviously we didn’t move , wasn’t eating my dinner in twenty minutes. These should have been put out long before. She was rude and very cocky. Then when we did go she said or sorry i wasn’t being funny it was just I wanted your table for quiz. Food was nice and other staff great just not her. Would say tho some of the seats are pretty disgusting and stained. In need of a good clean. Some look like they have been wee on.

Very quick and tasty food and friendly staff. Little rough the decor but great pub for the area.

Staff great, very friendly, meals usual fare but this place is totally ruined by rough old men shouting and swearing all the time. Staff just seem to ignore it.

Lovely food and cocktails had a lovely time

Bar staff and waiter's and waitresses fantastic .but went in other day for a sirloin steak it was awful. Tough fatty. Had to leave half of it. Wife had fish and chips .looked liked it had been warmed up. So did my scampi what I had week before. Batley food wise seems to be going downhill fast. Hope it improves because nice people .Nice staff. Just a pity about the food.

Wetherspoons are like McDonald's. You know exactly what you are going to get and it will be at the price you expect. If you don't like that business model don't go there.

We visited here with the aim of having a lovely chilled out family meal!!! This was shortly ruined when we were served what I presume was a burger and about enough chips to feed my dead rat 🐀 which was caught under the terrace of the wether spoons. Once we had started to dive into this monstrous of a combination we were ultimately baffled to find such a disarray of green chips!!!! This is outrageous service!!!! When I raised the issue the member of staff felt it necessary to rumple up my issue and walk off! That has taken a massive turn on my mental health and I expect a full fliming refund!!! Silly people think they can run a business? Can’t even run a lap of the local blocks!

Nice food and polite staff however seats and tables were quite dirty.

Enjoyed my meal/drink here, staff are friendly, would go back if I was in the area.

It was my first visit to the Wetherspoons Union Room in fact my first time to Batley I was there for a wrestling event popped into The Union Rooms for some food and a drink and it was wonderful the staff were friendly and welcoming the environment was lovely and the food was amazing I had the Chicken and Stuffing burger and it was delicious I would recommend this Wetherspoons to anyone thank you for a great service

I had a breakfast, a large one. Whats happened to weatherspoons, it was terrible no tomato the mushroom was size of a 50p and the coffee was really bad too. It will be a long time before I eat in there again. I'm sure there was something else but can't think it was 4 weeks ago.

Great pub good prices but It's always cold, they keep the air-conditioning on cold, surely it's better to keep it warm and people would drink more, I know I would and the majority of the regulars seem to agree, and the new manager isn't making a great impression, seems he's just happy to take is wages, union rooms have got some great staff,spoons need to sort it!

I love Wetherspoons, I like how they're reliable and you know what you're getting. I always head for one in a strange town if I am wanting a cheap and cheerful meal, I think they're definitely a cut above their competitors of a similar price range. This one, however, compared to the 100s of others I've visited in my 40 years on this planet has disappointed me more often. I have had to send a curry back that was still frozen in the middle and a friend has had to send their topped fries back as the bacon was raw, in the past couple of years. I did think they'd improved however. This Friday night just gone, stopped for some dinner before going out to the cinema. Attended with partner. Partner's steak was fine. I ordered a gourmet plant-based burger. It was very nicely presented, and the chips were cooked perfectly but the burger wasn't cooked. It was cold and had the soft, floppy texture it has before heating. I know people will think I should have complained-but I don't always want to do that. One, it was palatable. It wasn't meat, and wouldn't harm me by eating it 'raw' (the plant-based patties are already cooked, however their texture isn't very nice until they're heated adequately). 2 No staff came to ask if all was okay or I may have done. 3 my partner's idea to treat me to dinner-sure it wasn't a fancy restaurant but I didn't want to embarrass her unnecessarily and 4 I didn't want to be sitting waiting for the kitchen to sort it out while she was either awkwardly waiting, her dinner going cold, or eating by herself. The staff were nice and pleasant. I didn't want to make a fuss but I'll think twice about attending here if 'spoons becomes mentioned again, will probably go to a neighbouring one.

Food was okay, pub itself is gorgeous on the outside but is let down with how dingy, dirty and outdated the decor is inside. Staff member had very bad BO which was extremely off putting. Won't be returning but the food was hot and cheap so 2 stars
