A great place just next to the train station, with a great selection of both craft ales and lagers. The pub is broken up into different rooms, providing a different atmosphere to suit your mood. I would absolutely recommend a pint of northen monk Faith and a mothership moo & blue pie.

Not been here for a while. The beer is still great, but it stinks of sweat. Opening the windows and ventilating the place would massively help. The fruit machine in the bar where the real ale pumps are was massively flashy. I don’t suffer from strobe lighting, but moved to the other bar because it was proper annoying

Visited yesterday before and after the match. Lovely pub with a choice of seating areas, extensive selection of drinks and a very friendly welcome. I opted for the Dubel which was excellent as always. Very quick service before the match as it wasn’t overly busy but after the game it was very busy and without wanting to sound critical the service was a bit on the slow side and stretched almost as if it really needed another couple serving. All round experience was very good, would have no hesitation in returning and next time I do I’m going for one of the pies from the menu as they smelt and looked fantastic.

This used to be my go to place for a pint of real ale. However recently the ale isn’t being well poured. In addition, I’ve been served a pint of Leeds Pale that was devoid of any life. When I questioned this I was told all the ales were flat and if I wanted fizzy I should get a pint from the keg side of the pub. I doubt they would have said that to a man. I now frequent either The Crown or King’s Head, both of which are cheaper and keep and poor better kept ale. Have to say I’m gutted as I do love the HoS as a venue.

Came here to meet my daughter off the train before a town game on a Tuesday night. There seems to be two bars, one focused on cask ales, the other on keg/craft. Amazing range of cask and keg beers. There is also a Pie Minister menu but I didn't try it, as had limited time. We both had a couple of pints here. There was a choice of around 10 keg beers and 12 cask. It was fairly quiet, but still a nice friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

We come here quite often when travelling to and from huddersfield by train. The pies by Pieminster are outstanding, I have had the Mooless Moo, Heidi and Kevin, they're all absolutely delicious. I don't like how on a weekend it's served in a box though so weekends we just tend to pop in for a pint rather than eat. Always a friendly atmosphere with both travellers and locals. It's quiet during the week and does get livelier at weekends. We like to sit in the back where it's cozy and has candles on the tables.

We had a great stop here on our booze cruise from Leeds to Huddersfield and back. The Head of Steam has been a favourite of mine since my student days at Huddersfield University from 2006 to 2010 and it hasn't changed for the worse. Great selection of ales and ciders, lovely atmosphere, kind and knowledgeable staff who are happy to have a chat, great decoration all over and just overally cozy and lovely. The patrons are typical Yorkshire lads and lasses and you usually find someone to have a chat with. The only thing that sucks, but more for the owners and staff then the patrons is, that the direct access from the platform is no longer available.

I had to check out who has given 1 star as I’m so appreciative of any pub with such an amazing selection of beer (especially of the Belgian variety which is so hard to come by.. and on tap!!), anyway, someone has wrote “full of drunk people waiting for the train home”. Well that says it all. Hello… people have been working hard and just want a pint. Personally I ended up here after being pissed about by Northern Rail which turned a 32 min round trip into 3h 20m, so you can imagine my delight to come across this little oasis, where I can enjoy a beautiful beer in the sun, whilst waiting for my bloody replacement bus service. Thanks Head of Steam, and to the gentleman behind the bar who seemed as interested in beer as me. Wonderful.

Called here for some beers before going for food, they have quite a good selection of real ales but was really disappointed with the barman and his service. There was 4 of us all choosing different ales (we order half's so we can try different ones) so ordered 8 halves some of us had the same ones but one of the beers was off, now we drink enough of the stuff to know a bad beer. He had it the week before so knew it didn't taste or smell right. But when he took it back to the bar the guy told him it was fine and he would have to buy a different one if he didn't want it. Sorry but that is really poor customer service. Think we might avoid this pub in the future.

Met with the Midlands cronies and had a few jugs. Had a real ale called "Legover" which was excellent. Good speedy bar staff as it was busy. 1400 fans again today. Trouble is these pubs don't cater for the avalanche of fans and consequently within the hour they were down to 2 ales from the original 12 !! They really need to do their research because they are dipping out massively financially by not planning in advance.....Nice pub though with fans from both teams enjoying the camaraderie....

With plenty of real beer choice. It's good well kept beer too. We had the pieminister offer of food which was home made, good value, tasty and filling. Excellent for a cold December day.
