Recently had a pie and a pint (well, more than one) here after some issues with the train and it didn't disappoint: great pub. Lots of options, beers were affordable, and great service. Had a really enjoyable discussion with Vinny, Kieran, and Chris about beers from the Low Countries 🇳🇱🇧🇪. Will go there again!

This is another great real ale pub in Huddersfield The pub is near the King's Head in the Train Station Building There are always many real ales on There is a CAMERA discount here, and this pub serves good food with a variable menu daily. The staff in this pub are also very friendly and helpful Monday 1st September 2024 Today, after more than 5 years, I again visited this great pub This pub on Huddersfield station served a plethora of great real ales on handpump The landlord was superb and friendly The pub is a 2 roomed popular alehouse When in this pub 1 real ale is never enough

We had a great stop here on our booze cruise from Leeds to Huddersfield and back. The Head of Steam has been a favourite of mine since my student days at Huddersfield University from 2006 to 2010 and it hasn't changed for the worse. Great selection of ales and ciders, lovely atmosphere, kind and knowledgeable staff who are happy to have a chat, great decoration all over and just overally cozy and lovely. The patrons are typical Yorkshire lads and lasses and you usually find someone to have a chat with. The only thing that sucks, but more for the owners and staff then the patrons is, that the direct access from the platform is no longer available.

1st port of call on my visit to Huddersfield. A very friendly welcome was received by me. It was pretty quite on this Saturday lunchtime, which meant no queues at the bar 😊. My Camerons - Road Crew was bang on form. This place is 5 mins walk from the bus station and 5 seconds walk from the train station!! I will definatly visit again. Not had food but the beer is Fantastic well worth a repeated cost especially if waiting for the train, only had beer not food Staff and really welcoming

Love going here for the open mic night they do every Tuesday. Bar staff are also very friendly

Moo pie with onion gravy accompanied by four pints of Leeds Bitter Simply wonderful, a place to forget your troubles and enjoy a proper English pub. Thanks to all the staff for making our visit so memorable.

Good pub with a great atmosphere

I had to check out who has given 1 star as I’m so appreciative of any pub with such an amazing selection of beer (especially of the Belgian variety which is so hard to come by.. and on tap!!), anyway, someone has wrote “full of drunk people waiting for the train home”. Well that says it all. Hello… people have been working hard and just want a pint. Personally I ended up here after being pissed about by Northern Rail which turned a 32 min round trip into 3h 20m, so you can imagine my delight to come across this little oasis, where I can enjoy a beautiful beer in the sun, whilst waiting for my bloody replacement bus service. Thanks Head of Steam, and to the gentleman behind the bar who seemed as interested in beer as me. Wonderful.

This place is great, the pies and beer are the best.

Went on Jazz night, fantastic. Pies were great. Only pub in Huddersfield to do bread and butter, a great drop. And Vinny and Kieran were lovely, great bar staff.

Vinny was super helpful with a problem I had went far above and beyond ❤️❤️👍👍 also a great pub with different rooms AC massive choice of well kept beers. Right at the station....based on experience and Vinny will recommend to others

Called here for some beers before going for food, they have quite a good selection of real ales but was really disappointed with the barman and his service. There was 4 of us all choosing different ales (we order half's so we can try different ones) so ordered 8 halves some of us had the same ones but one of the beers was off, now we drink enough of the stuff to know a bad beer. He had it the week before so knew it didn't taste or smell right. But when he took it back to the bar the guy told him it was fine and he would have to buy a different one if he didn't want it. Sorry but that is really poor customer service. Think we might avoid this pub in the future.

Lovely please lovely experience

I was surprised at how much this pub had changed from the last time I visited. There was plenty of choices with real ale. They claimed a choice of 18, but I didn't see more than 12 pumps. The food was Pieminster, which I've found to be poor in the past, but this was good fare. Will visit again!

Great if you want to taste an excellent Pie... Good selection of beer... Attached to Huddersfield station and opposite St George's Square... Low prices and a true authentic English pub atmosphere! I recommend it to have a pint alone or with friends!

This is a great pub on the station at Huddersfield the staff were very nice sadly wasn’t as many ales to choose from maybe because its January or it had been extra busy. We were there to watch football at Huddersfield v Argyle lots of us away fans enjoying a pint.

Argyle playing "The Terriers" today! Nearly 7hrs after setting off from Devon, I have arrived!! Right alongside the railway station is this impressive pub. Met with the Midlands cronies and had a few jugs. Had a real ale called "Legover" which was excellent. Good speedy bar staff as it was busy. 1400 fans again today. Trouble is these pubs don't cater for the avalanche of fans and consequently within the hour they were down to 2 ales from the original 12 !! They really need to do their research because they are dipping out massively financially by not planning in advance.....Nice pub though with fans from both teams enjoying the camaraderie....

Attended for our annual ‘Uddersfield ‘Ogmanay geocaching event, along with about 25 others. Great beer, good service and friendly staff, especially Clair who joined in our raffle raising money for the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue.

Lunchtime at the Head of Steam was quieter than I thought it would on a Tuesday. So the atmosphere was quiet. Which might be what you are looking for. It's right on the railway station with taxis and buses but pay parking at the bus station so no excuse about difficult or inconvenient to get to. It's a proper pub, pub. With plenty of real beer choice. It's good well kept beer too. We had the pieminister offer of food which was home made, good value, tasty and filling. Excellent for a cold December day. The real test is would I go again? Yes. The second test is why have I not been in a while? I don't know. Must go again, soon.

Always nip in for a pint when I'm waiting for the train. Nice pub, massive selection of beers and ales and always a good pint.

On an away day in Huddersfield and saw this boozer walk in friendly staff (must be a northern a thing) loads of local ales and lager. Also its a railway themed pub with loads of rail history. Prefect for a vist while on an away day

Just had a much needed cappuccino, thank you to Clare & staff. Took photo of the meal Clare was preparing of a pie, pea mash( I assume), spud mash & crispy onions, with gravy, sent the photo back to my partner in Melbourne Australia, he'll be wishing that dish was his lunch!

I stopped by for a juice. Its was a lime juice n water. I Was served by a friendly enough guy. Atmosphere was just normal day type, quiet, mind your own business type of atmosphere and I didn't eat. This is the reason for my rating.

If you get the train this is worth a stop...even if you waiting...great selection of ales ...draught and canned ..serve food and looks good aswell...staff have good knowledge about the ales ...will be back

I went into the head of steam today for a pint with my puppy while I waited for my train. I got my pint and the man behind the bar gave me some water for my puppy which was absolutely lovely! I went outside and there was a very drunken man who was talking to himself who had just been inside the head of steam who sat next to me and was speaking to me incoherently, making me uncomfortable, the staff came over before I knew what was what and they asked him to leave and to let me enjoy my pint. After a while I told the bar staff he was okay and they left me too it, reminding me to "please give them a shout if he bothered me at all". After a while I was a bit fed up of listening to his drunken nonsense so I got up and went back inside and a staff member showed me to another outside seating area and brought me another dog water bowl. I just want to say that the staff here are absolutely incredible! I am so grateful to them being so vigilant and attentive. Really, really nice guys.

Wide selection of beers and resonable prices. Good service . The pies are very good but are spolit by being presented in a tight fitting cardboard box. Once upon a time they had plates and knives and forks. and once upon I time I would have given them 5 stars. The pub feels a little neglected by the H of S chain though its in better condition than the one next to Leeds Station which looks ready for closedown or sell off.

The Steak and Stilton pie was absolutely delicious I highly recommend. The staff were really friendly, a decent pint served here as well.

At Huddersfield Station, a good selection of beers on both cask and keg.

Usually a cracking pub. Unreal selection of ales and lagers. Staff always friendly and efficient. Like most people I am just a transient from one town to another and come in here for a decent pint before the train home. It would appear that this evening the pub has been taken over by a load of self centred beered up people think it is acceptable to ruin some brilliant songs with their monotone and flat signing and mediocre playing of their instruments. Their very important rucksacks and clearly extremely expensive instruments took pride of place on chairs that were not being used by intended users. Finally as I tried to leave the new ‘owners’ of this pub even though asked politely wouldn’t move away from the door. Incidentally this is a fire door. So I eventually barged my way through and advised these weekend millionaires that they were blocking a fire exit. I’m assuming they are still sat there. I just hope there isn’t a fire…..

With a keen interest in railway history Huddersfield Station is an icon with the Head of Steam occupying one of the two former booking offices. The pub itself has a great range of real ales 🍺 but sadly is looking a little tired.

Extremely lovely barmaid on a Tuesday evening. V friendly and down to earth pub with a slightly quirky traditional train station feel. Excellent ales, and a good pie and peas deal (veggie available).

Wonderful pub with an amazing cask and keg selection. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. The music while I was there was the right volume, not offensive and fun enough to keep you entertained. They are dog friendly and have treats available

Genuinely top notch. The range of beers on offer is magnificent but the thing that makes it is the staff who really understand beer, are happy to chat about it and offer their opinions and who appear to have a genuine interest in it. You just don't get that everywhere.

Called in for a quick cuppa whilst waiting for a train and I was really pleased I could enjoy my cuppa and a dish of warm pork scratchings inside with my dog by my side. My dog was served a bowl of water and some treats of her own by the friendly barman. Definitely an excellent quick cuppa experience ☕🐾
