Alright, had better had worse.

Staff are fantastic, very welcoming.

Had a steak and it was cooked to perfection.

We had the Sunday lunch but the carvery wasn’t on the veg was hard and the Yorkshire pudding was under cooked and the beef was full of fat and gristle. We won’t be going back.

The meals are very poor quality. My husband ordered a chicken kebab and the chicken wasn’t cooked. I ordered Gammon and chips which was very greasy. Both meals were sent back, The member of staff was very apologetic and offered free drinks / deserts. We received a refund for the meals. We definitely won’t be going back there , worst meals ever .

Just been with the family for dinner today Sunday 19/5/24 worst meal I’ve had in a long time , starter nice , main meal , as soon as picked up the broccoli on my fork and saw the water running from it I just knew it wasn’t a good sign , in my opinion it was frozen and not quite cooked enough it was hard not tender , the Yorkshire pudding was obviously reheated we all said the same about it , mash my son recons was packet and I wouldn’t disagree , roast were naff , they should be crispy on the outside not soft , and the beef was like cutting a leather belt , desert very nice best part of the meal . Marks out of ten 0 Gordon Ramsay would have had a field day , if I go out for a meal I expect a trained chef to cook the meal better than I can do it myself , that main meal was not even close to what I cook . it’s been a long time since I went there and it will be even longer before I return again . The member of staff did say I hope everything was ok to which I replied “actually no it wasn’t” oh I’m sorry was her reply

Service very good.food was hot and was of good quality except rump steak in mixed grill.knowing cost always issue but kiddies play area lacking more ride or swings etc.staff polite.

I really wish this place could get back to its former glory. There used to be a great atmosphere, now it seems it’s always quiet… certainly midweek. Food is “pub grub” not bad - it serves a purpose, but there are better eateries in the vicinity. If you get one of the senior staff members they are so friendly and helpful, which is lovely. I’ve driven up a couple of evenings for a drink and it’s been closed … so I don’t make the journey any more. Finally if you’re after a game of pool - be warned, the table is in need of repair. Sadly a sign of the times, pub companies not spending money on their equipment atm.

It is such a lovely amazing place to eat, but sadly, Marstons are closing this down, which is totally unacceptable, staff have worked there heart and soul into this company, they didn't even know the company was closing in down they only read this online, totally unacceptable the management and staff should have been told. Slowly, every bit of history of the area is going. it's so sad to see. What is going to be left for future generations is nothing as it's all going.

Went for Sunday lunch….never again. Ate here many times.. fish , steak etc all good But Sunday lunch… Less than good…Bad really!!! Meat ok but that’s about it!!! Veg was not cooked. Rest not very good. Don’t like gravy like water!!! Ordered extra pigs in blankets. Nearly £3… shocking!!! Should have sent them back…. Three scrappy bits of sausages maybe 1 in long and bacon well where was it…. Terrible!!! Left half our food and that’s not us!!! And at £26 well never again!!!Just go down the road to the Kayes Arm and get a decent meal

Was OK probably more for families. Cheap and sort of cheerful, went with a good crowd. Spacious. Many people really like it, however, I was not impressed but used to high food standards. Still thought dear for what I had.

Not expecting our party of 8 at 18.30, even though we had booked the week before on line. We did have a booking reference and reply. She said its not a problem we are not busy..but not interested in when or why they hadn't seen it,there was only 4 others in and the were just about to leave. No effort was made to even to make it better. Was told to order everything at the bar, couldn't even come to take a drinks order at the table...! Cutlery just put in a pile on one table even though we was told to sit at 2 tables next to each other. Food order was the same. 4 starters placed on one table. Mains with a little more effort to give them to right people. Main plates collected (19.50) and nothing said about kitchen about to close ..! We made our choice of desserts and went to the bar.. and was told the chef has gone home(20.00) but "I can do them..." but it just seemed to be to much effort... and she needed to make the point it was to much effort...!! !Desserts arrived(7).. again with even less effort, all placed on one table.. Food good but No hospitality shocking .. probably will not go back. We only live 5 mins away...!

Due to the fact you are misleading customers on your website and using images of the other blacksmiths arms (which is where I thought I’d booked for) you’d do better removing them rather than false advertising

We had a lovely meal. The staff were fantastic. Food was excellent & value for money. I couldnt fault anything at all.

The chicken pie came in a good sized dish but when you lift the pastry lid the there was hardly any filling just a few pieces of chicken at the bottom very poor portion for 17 pound one spoonfuls of mash and one carrot

Been there many times and they never fail to deliver. Today, wasn't an exception !! Large pub where you never feel cramped or rushed, great parking facilities and amd a sizeable playground for younger children.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to leave a review anywhere! The food was that bad.. I had the carvery and the turkey had a weird smell and taste and was not edible! I never complained but asked if I could get my daughters ice lolly so we could get out of there but the girl I asked just kept coming out with different orders and looking right at me. I mean how long does it take to take a ice lolly out of a packet! Anyway First and last time going there 🤢

We are 6 sisters who meet up every few weeks.The only place we will go is Blacksmiths Wakefield,although we all live at the other end of Huddersfield.Three of us have some sort of disability but we know that when we go we dont have to worry we always get looked after.The Wednesday staff are absolutely amazing .

It is the first time I have been here and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great customer service, good food, reasonable prices and a lovely atmosphere. We will be back!

Wanted Sunday carvery as had been just before Xmas, but has now since stopped doing, so went elsewhere instead

Always a nice place to visit for a meal or a drink. Friendly, helpful staff and easy to find with plenty of parking. Children's play area outside for the summer.

Went in the day before Xmas eve expecting a Christmas atmosphere... not even a bauble in sight .. no tree no lights nothing. No Xmas meal ... shocking

Wife and I visited,we had the Light Menu,Wife had Breaded Mushroom,s with Mayonnaise Dip and I had Tomato Soup with a Roll, The Mushroom,s were over cooked and Greasy ,Wife nearly broke her teeth on them,my Soup was barely warm yet Roll was hot,we did tell Waitress when she collected plates,Wife then had Scampi with Jacket Potato and Pea,s and I had 4 Oz Gammon Steak with Egg,Pinapple,Chip,s and Pea,s Main meal was Hot and Edible,we the saw a Lady who might have been the Manager and told her about the Starter,s she offered us either a Sweet or Coffee,we declined,but thanked her.The place is basically serving fast food,we will not be going back.

My wife and I went for a meal on the way to halifax from sheffield. The mixed grill was superb, and so was the lasagne.

Called yesterday for a carvery. (22 October)Have to say was very disappointed with the selection of vegetables! Red cabbage was delicious, 3 choices of potatoes and mushytasteless cauliflower and peas!!!was not worth the price of over £11.left feeling hungry as I m not a fan of potatoes.lovely decor inside but no customer service either.

Great service, good food, and great atmosphere.

Not been for over a year and won't be going again. Only had cavery on and was told when that ran out would be able to choose from normal menu. Why couldn't we have this choice to start with. We left within 15 minutes and left our drinks. Don't blame the staff they looked very deflated management at fault for making sure not enough staff to cover especially another chef for cooking

Had an unscheduled stop here after a road was temporarily closed due to accident. Food was reasonable and beer was good. Not the cheapest but definitely not overly dear. A decent pub.

Me and my family came here expecting a nice lunch and a bit of play time for the children at the playground here. We ordered food, and then the children went out to play. My son (5 yrs) came to me and complained the playground was full of food and packaging and said, "It was drity." I went to check this out and saw 3 other children that eventually figured out that they belonged to some staff member, who abused the playground eating away opcorn and sandwiches and left uneaten food and packets all over the slide and floor. Random items of clothing scattered about, absolute disgraceful atmosphere and unhygienic. I confronted a staff member to make her aware of the issue, and to be fair she resolved this quite quickly. The other unfortunate and in issue was the food that came. Although it came timely we could tell it was rushed and no care was given. To my dismay and disappointment I had plastic wrapping in my burger (I presume from the cheese slice) and my daughters fresh veg sticks were looking out of date. We complained about this with no apology, the staff member just replied "oh, I'll let the chef know". Won't be going back here at all. The staff fmember who served us looked like she didn't want to be there, unwelcoming and poor. Really sorry, but honest review.

Lovely tidy pub! Definitely go again, staff Lovely and very accommodating to us! Was quiet mid day, during week and service was great, always chatting too and helped me with my crutches xx

It was quiet for a Sunday, The food was ok but not everything on the menu was available which was a disappointment. Will probably skip visiting next time.

6 of us went to celebrate a birthday.OMG horrendous 2 of us had Cumberland sausage,mash & peas. The sausage never seen Cumberland, we didn't even get a table spoon full of mash !!!! The GAMMON was just a bacon rasher !! The soup was cold has was the cappuccino .The waitress didn't even ask what we thought of our meal.The ladies toilet was smelly. We know this business is for salesplease please someone buy this pub asap its going down hill fast

we all were using our vouchers ,it was the last date to use them, there were 8 of us in total,but on ordering our meals, the person at the till informed the first of our party that we could only use one voucher per table,on hearing this,we all complained,and said this was not on the vouchers,we were all devastated,but eventually the till operative,gave in ,and we were all able to use our 30% vouchers.We all thought that the drinks we had, were very expensive,in comparison to other venues we use.The meals themselves was not all that great,myself had Hunters Chicken Breast,this was quite dry,and not too tasty,others in our party all said similar,about there meal,In fairness we all agreed,that this will be the last time we will visit this venue.

Seated well ordered the big mixed grill, came out piping hot. Extremely pleasant young man served us. Everything cooked spot on we will definitely be going again

booked a table, when we arrived it wasn`t busy just told to sit anywhere. good selection on menu. ordering at the bar was simple and speedy. service was quite pedestrian for being so quiet.when it came it was freshly cooked, even the peas were hot. ordered a sweet and it took almost 25 mins to arrive. all in all great value and will be back

THE OCCASSION WAS MY TREAT FOR THE JOINT BIRTHDAY OF TWO OLD FRIENDS AFTER A PLEASANT GREETING, THE CHOICE OF TABLE WAS OURS. .WE WERE IMPRESSED WITH CHOICE OFFERED BY THE EXTENSIVE MENU AND COMFORT OF THE SEATING ARRANGEMENT IN A VERY SPACIOUS RESTAURANT. FOOD WAS VERY GOOD, SERVED IN VERY GENEROUS PORTIONS, BY AN ESTREAMLY PLEASANT STAFF OVERALL, WE WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH ALL ASPECTS OF THE RSTAURANT AND THE PRICE PAID. WITHDOUBT, WE SHALL RETURN.

The quality of the meal was very good, service excellent, staff very welcoming. Overall a very enjoyable meal.

My birthday treat for family , very relaxed no rushing involved found it was the best time to visit meal served promptly , very good service as six people all wanting different things the bar staff friendly as it was a very hot day we were offered seating by the door which was excellent.

Only one item on the grill menu available and this on Friday so did not have a meal very poor

We came for family Bingo! It’s a great way to end the week. This time we only had drinks but we have enjoyed good pub food on previous occasions. The kids love it. The lady who runs it is very friendly and cheerful. All the prizes are sweets or cash so it is very child friendly. Great for the kids’ concentration skills and number recognition! Thank you for offering this fabulous entertainment!

Went for family bingo. Brilliant craic, lovely staff. Usual pub fayre served timely. We'll be back to win more prizes, children loved it. Perfect no cook Family Friday

Brilliant spot, excellent views over looking huddersfield and castle hill. The blacksmiths has a decent carpark for customer too. The staff work very efficiently and get the food out to people quickly and the standard is very high. The portions are always very generous and the food is really good! Would totally reccomend this place as it ticks all the boxes. :)

Made 4 mistakes on all of our meals so that’s why I left 4 stars anyway my dear mother complained the entire but my meal was delicious chicken burger delicious my sister stinks but her meal was eh 6/10 my brothers burger was good aserll as mine but the 4 mistakes were no cheese on my burger and too much cheese in my brothers lol and sauce on my sisters chicken and no mash with my mothers dinner anyway nice staff good experience
