The Ford Inn in Kirklees

We booked a meal here after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed! The staff could not be more friendly or attentive and the bar/restaurant was so warm and welcoming as we arrived during cold, wet and windy weather. The beautiful old open fire was especially welcome. Everything we had was delicious- good quality home cooked food. We really can’t fault anything at all and will certainly be back. Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer as we had to get to an event in Holmfirth. Next time we’ll stay for pudding and a few more drinks too!

Not bad! Fish and chips quite reasonably priced and not bad at all. Local chippies have gone downhill in my opinion and the Ford Inn fish and chips a good alternative option. Not quite "The Catch" but very nice with a pint and well worth a visit. Home cooking type food but good value and tasty.

we called at the ford inn recently for a meal on a saturday night my wife is gluten free so she checked the menu and the only thing that she could eat was a prawn coctail and a portion of chips which were both meant to be gluten free we duly ordered and then the waitress came back and told us the chef said he would have to fry the supposed gluten free chips withe the non gluten free fish and chips he obviously did not realise how unwell eating gluten can make someone who is cealiac ,so she had to have new potatoes the prawn coctail tasted of peper and most off was left will n ot return

Came here on a Sunday afternoon, customer service was fab, very attentive and nothing seemed to much trouble. The food was impeccable! Roast Beef Sunday Roast… WOW! It was stunning! Plentiful and very homemade! Roast potatoes was crispy on the out and fluffy on the in, beef was delightful, pink and delicious!! Chicken Kiev was amazing, definitely better than I expected… good sized portions and we can’t wait to come back! Thank you…!!!

I went here yesterday for lunch with a friend. We were greeted by the very friendly Kate who took orders at the table for drinks as well as food and let us know there would be a slight delay as they only had one chef on. The beer battered cod, chips and peas was piping hot, crispy batter and tasty fish. A very efficient service and delicious food. Will go back again.

A country pub just like you imagine they should.be: food all prepared and cooked from fresh ingredients, cask ales, clean, warm friendly welcome, characterful and amazing view of the moors. They even do a fish and chip takeaway for passing sightseers. If it's not too busy and you are able to 'shoot the breeze' with Darren, the convivial host, you'll find he shares twin passions of live music and real ales. You can while away a pleasant evening chatting about everything and nothing, like we did, punctuated by his own eclectic soundtrack. 'Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps' ( Doris Day) you can 'Have a nice day' ( Sterophonics) with 'Brass in pocket' ( The Pretenders) wishing you could 'Live forever' (Oasis) before you 'Say hello, wave goodbye' ( Soft Cell) Make sure you are 'Hungry like the Wolf (Duran Duran) before you order a large cod and chips, it is massive. I throughly recommend a visit and if you don't enjoy yourself 'Blame it on me' ( Barenaked Ladies).

In all honesty I can tell you that stopped into this great little pub while out for a run in my old camaro, with its idyllic setting and perfect food and drink is everything you could wish for. The food is truly first class and should be held as exemplary to other establishments of this kind, no processed rubbish here, only the very best. To say the landlord and staff are friendly just doesn't do them enough justice, they are warm caring and generous , and really looked after us, my girlfriend and l left this fine establishment not only served to the highest quality but also feeling cosseted and like we had made new friends , the most genuinely outstanding welcome I've ever experienced. We have eaten here before and it’s was okay but sadly our second visit means we won’t be returning. The chef needs to lay off the mayo in the coleslaw, the beef for the sandwiches was very overdone and the bread was stale. Staff were welcoming and on hand but the food let it down on this occasion. We did mention these points and the manager said very begrudgingly “ okay Thankyou “ then proceeded to get the bill. With how much eating out costs these days, I think it’s paramount bad feedback is taken on board, we are local to the area and visit all the local pubs/restaurants because we want them to stay open! But standards have to stay high to reflect prices!!

14 of us, aged 7 to 77 enjoyed the best ever Sunday lunch anyone could wish for. The staff were attentive, friendly and professional and the food was simply excellent. The age gaps created a mixed order but all the food appeared at the same time. The portions for the main courses were good and it was reasonably priced. A great find and we highly recommend it

Darren went out of his way to accommodate us at short notice. Despite a very busy service the food and the team were all great and I’d definitely recommend if you’re visiting Holmfirth.

We had booked a table here on Saturday afternoon unfortunately three of the guests were held up in motorway traffic and were running late, we asked the landlord if this was going to be a problem and he said no problem at all and showed us to our table while the other guests arrived. We were served drinks straight away, when our guests arrived later more drinks were ordered and food, when the food arrived all the portions were decent sizes, hot and very tasty. The staff were all very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back.

Me and the better half came here on a meal for a table of 5 and was very disappointed with the result of the burger, was very dry and fell apart. Got it knocked off our bill but as in a rush couldn’t get a different meal. Disappointed

Having worked in the hospitality industry myself it's very rare to have a perfect experience from start to finish but The Ford Inn delivered perfection. The Landlord was welcoming, cheerful and efficient. The drinks were served at the correct temperature ( I can't abide cold red wine ). It was a little chilly so he immediately set about lighting a roaring fire which warmed us up a treat. We ordered a lamb shank and a mixed grill. All food was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. On the way home we both agreed to visit on a more regular basis.

We called in for sunday lunch today , 10th October. There was 2 of us and there was plenty of tables available, although some did seat 4 or 5 people. The ' landlord' behind the bar said we could sit at a tiny table, which was in between the open door and the bar. I didnt really want to sit in a draught or with people walking past us, so i asked if we could sit in the corner of the next room, that seated 4.NO. said the lovely landlord, obviously not really interested in our custom. So we left. Shame really, the food looked great. Shame cant be said of the grumpy landlord.

We have just returned from an excellent lunch at The Ford Inn. After a lap of Digley Reservoir some sustenance was required and the Ford certainly delivered. Home cooked pub grub and lovely cold beers to wash it down. The portions are hearty so be sure to arrive hungry as you certainly will not be on the way out. A warm welcome and nice atmosphere. What more could you ask for?! Certainly no complaints from the four of us and we will be back soon for more. Keep up the good work. See you again soon.

After recently moving to Meltham and The Ford Inn being recommended to us we booked a birthday celebration meal for 8 people. On arrival we ordered drinks and then waited about 20 minutes for a waitress to take our order. In fact we had to leave the table and found a waitress standing at the bar talking. When we eventually placed our order we waited an hour for it to arrive. The meals were brought our separately which was frustrating. The beer battered fish and chips was a huge disappointment - overcooked batter and dry fish, hand cooked chips greasy and the tartare sauce had a funny taste. The chicken dinner was average and there was very little vegetables and a overcooked Yorkshire pudding. The pie was the only appetizing meal to eat. After finishing our main course we waited another 20 minutes for the plates to be collected and asked the waitress for the dessert menu but then waited another 10 minutes for her to bring it. We had to look again for a waitress to take our order. Once taken we waited over half an hour for two deserts to arrive, then another 10 minutes for two desserts to arrive, and then had to ask the waitress for the final dessert. When the chocolate brownie arrived, it was a joke. The bowl was swimming in melted chocolate sauce, the ice cream melted and the brownie was inedible. We told the waitress and and she said she would knock the price off the bill for us. When we asked for the bill we noticed we had been charged an extra 50p for the ices cream with our desserts...unbelievable. What restaurant or pub charges for cream, ice cream or custard with a dessert. Its normally included with your dessert. The desserts were £5.50 + each. Considering this was a birthday celebration meal, we were all very disappointed and I can honestly say I will never return or recommend The Ford Inn.

Presentation was first class. Beautiful tender meats and delicious veg. Very busy so recommend booking. Made to feel very welcome. The staff were working very hard but still smiling.

I've been past a lot but never stopped in so when my fiancé said to pick somewhere new and it was high on the TA list I decided to give it a go.It was a great choice and we'll likely make it a regular place to visit.The building has a great ambiance and is very comfortable to be in. The staff were really friendly and amenable to our quirks (even had them taking some fun pictures of us and had a good laugh with them).And the food was awesome. I had the gammon which was a good size, well presented and the chips were light and fluffy inside - perfect. My fiancé had the chicken Kiev which was done totally different to any we've had before and was (as the owner suggested) amazing. Worth visiting just for that.The starters of prawn cocktail and black pudding were also really spot on (I've not had black pudding that good before - not the dry stuff you get most other places).We also shared a brownie for dessert - really well made again and just right to finish (not that we really had room as the other courses were more than ample).

We live close to the Ford Inn, but haven’t used it for a number of years. I took the family up on Sunday and it is absolutely back to its best! Great food, the prawn cocktail was amazing and the pie was ample and plentiful and very very nice. Warm cosy environment too… highly recommended!Martin Leeming

We have been to the Ford Inn on two occasions in the last week for lunch. On both occasions the food, atmosphere and staff have been excellent. The Landlord Darren is very welcoming and attentive. Good quality food at amazing prices. Thoroughly enjoyable!

While staying in the Holme Valley we visited the dog friendly Ford Inn last Friday with 4 adults and our 3 Flatcoated Retrievers. We had great tasting food and plenty of it, a great selection of lagers and all with a friendly service. They have a huge carpark and when asked if they would allow motorhomes to stay overnight it was confirmed that they could. Just come into the pub have a meal or drink and make yourself known first. Might do that in the future when travelling past. Go and visit.

A fabulous Sunday dinner in a very friendly pub. We arrived without having booked and although they were very busy we got a table courtesy of a regular who gave his table up for us. The Roast ham was beautiful, well cooked with all the trimmings and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend this traditional friendly pub.

Booked to have Sunday lunch with my daughter as I have not been to The Ford for many years and was keen to see if the food was as good as I remembered.We were not disappointed - my roast beef meal was amazing, everything was beautifully cooked. Both my husband and I have been recently on two separate trips (one with my friend and I, other he took our eldest). On both occasions the food and service was exceptional and couldn't be faulted at all. The Sunday roast is brilliant, it came with a the trimmings you could need. My eldest and husband, who are very fussy when it comes to puddings, said the sticky toffee pudding was the best they'd ever had - and from a 10yr old thats pretty impressive!! We'll definitely be back again, and I'd highly recommend going here if you're in or near holmfirth looking for some food and a nice place for a drink!

We've been with dogs and again, welcomed with open arms in bar area so as not to disturb other diners. Tonight we were in the main dining area.. It will not be our last visit!

My parents visited the pub yesterday evening, with friends. They had booked a table, previously and they all ordered their meals at approximately 7pm.The pub was not at all busy, and we're not approached at anytime, after being seated, other than their order for food, with an apology for the wait or asked if they'd like more refreshments, they had to go to the bar themselves. As far as im concerned, at not so busy times, such as this one, the table service is all part of the end bill. At 8.25pm their meals finally arrived, and, they were not worth waiting for, with no apology what so ever for such a long wait. The 2 female staff that we're working, could not have cared any less, they just complained at how 'tired' they both were. The friends had travelled, all the way from Liverpool, after not seeing each other, for well over 18 months. When asked if they could, at least have the price of, half a Guinness and a lemonade, taken off the bill, as a goodwill gesture, they were just stared at, with not so much as a word from the staff member spoken. All in all a very unpleasant evening, after such a long journeyand all were left, greatly disappointed.Won't be in a rush to return im afraid.

We have just returned from a lovely break in Holmfirth and we attended the Ford Inn for lunch upon arrival and we were so impressed we returned a few days later for evening meal. The service and food was absolutely outstanding. Greta choice of food on the menu and the staff were really helpful and pleasant. The food really was top notch probably the best pub food i have ever had and you can certainly tell was home cooked! Will certainly be returning next time we are in the area!

We haven’t been to this place in the best part of a year, maybe more. In all honesty when I finally allowed myself to get off work earlier, we decided to visit the place as it was our favourite Sunday roast. So when we went I was looking forward to the same roast I remember all them months agoCame today, and I’m being honest the food was far from perfect, tasteless Yorkshire, gravy was watery, meat was tough, yet the menu stated pink unless asked differently which in theory means it should be perfectly tender. Every few minutes waitress come over and ask if everything ok, and you feel obligated to say yes because they are just standing there. Honestly worst experience I’ve faced, and i can honestly say I will more than likely won’t return. Not sure if these responses get looks at.

My wife Christine and i decided to call in for our last night of our holiday staying at the Dovestone Holiday park 10 mile away. Welcomed and shown to our table by two gentlemen hosts who were polite and very professional from the off. Nice clean and tidy pub , i ordered the steak and ale pie, Christine the chicken kiev. Both meals wer accompanied by chunky chips and salad and both were a credit to the staff , delicious. Couldnt manage a dessert ! Well ran pub, immaculately clean and well mannered staff and excellent staff, superb.

Clean,traditional pub. Unfortunately on the side of a busy road so noisy when eating outside. However, pleasant to stop at when driving or walking past. Very nice lunch at a good price. Very pleasant and attentive hosts.

Called in for a drink and decided to have something to eat and so glad we did!I chose the chicken Kiev which was served with a beautifully dressed salad and chunky chips. The chicken was delicious, moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside, covered with yummy garlic butter. Perfection.My husband had the steak and ale pie served with a variety of vegetables and chunky chips. It was obviously ‘home made’. Beautifully packed with tender beef.Everything was seasoned well and delicious.We also enjoyed some Camden pale ale to wash it all down. A great, super friendly pub, we’ll definitely be back.

We've driven past this pub and never stopped so decided we should really go. What a lovely find, the food was good pub food and not over priced. We both had fish and chips which came with mushy peas and tartare sauce, lovely sized portions and well presented. Loved the sticky pudding. The staff were all friendly and chatty from the waitress to the owner, Darren. It has recently been decorated and new carpets, it had a lovely atmosphere of a country pub with an old stove oven in the dining room. We definitely won't leave it as long to visit again. It is lovely to see places like this open but only due to the dedication and hard work of the owners, we must all support these businesses if they are to succeed.

We came here for a mid week lunch on a trip to the Peak District so it was extremely quiet when we visited. The food and the service were both good, we had no complaints at all

I came here with my wife and son yesterday (Wed 30 June). We were more than impressed with the attentive staff who couldn’t have done any more for us from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The first member of staff ( Emily I think her name was, correct me If I’m wrong) welcomed us, sat us down and got us some drinks. Both me and my wife said to each other that we wished more young staff in the hospitality industry were as passionate and caring towards their customers (she couldnt have been more helpful if she tried). The other lady who served us was bubbly and again attentive but we did not catch her name. When we came to order, I had the fish goujons with a side of chips, my wife had the chorizo salad and my son had the Kiev. All were beautifully cooked and empty plates by all. If you are in the area you really need to come here to be served amazing food by polite, friendly staff who are a credit to their workplace.Thank you!

We were visiting a special friend in Meltham and thought dinner at this hostelry was worth a try. We were overwhelmed at the quality of the food and the amazing low prices of the meals. During our stay in the area we went to the Ford on two occasions and all the meals for our party of 4 people were superb.We visit the area at least twice a year and the Ford Inn will now be top of the list for such excellent food and service.

Visited Friday just gone. Darren and the staff were awesome. My car tire went flat just as I got here and I couldn’t leave until 11pm after a mobile tyre fitter eventually came out. Food was great and good options being dairy free (please add a dairy free pud ). The pub had a right night of it drunks driving home (I reported), people running off without paying and me and my little ones who were slowly loosing it. I’m surprised the staff weren’t tearing their hair out.Thank you we will be back next time we are passing.

Choose this pub as our first choice was all booked.Lovely drive to it. Situated on a very busy road.Food and drink was ordered from our table.The drinks arrived quickly, although they did forget our waters.The food arrived promptly also, although some food was missing, but the staff soon rectified this.The starters were absolutely fine. Hot and delicious.For the mains we had the burgers. The chips, salad and coleslaw were all lovely, however the burger was extremely dry and just fell apart. The onion rings were tasteless and brittle.We would visit again, but this pub wouldn’t be our first choice .Both my husband and I felt the food was overpriced because of the food quality.

Absolutely stunning. Such a warm welcome- Simon the manager introduced himself and chatted with us, he accommodated all our requests- and we were fussy!! The food was way underpriced, the starters and mains we had were absolutely stunning, crispy batter on home made onion rings- steak cooked to perfection, salad dressed with a homemade whole grain mustard dressing- balsamic vinegar on the side.And as for the waitresses, young polite lovely girls that couldn’t do enough for us xxPlease do not visit this restaurant as I want to keep it a secret just for us!!!!

Stopped on way out of Holmfirth for tea with the kids. We had a gorgeous pizza, delicious kofta and really nice chips, skinny fries and onion rings. So good! highly recommend and reasonable too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stop, thank you.

So, I wished to meet a friend for a meal. Checked the.details by messaging on their chatline. Received a return message saying I could not book a table as it was first come first served. Ok, I thought, let's meet at 6. Got there at 6. No one there, the place was shut. Poor dos, will never go there again.

Was just passing and decided to give this place a try. Not that keen on eating outside but no choice in the present climate.Was given a warm welcome by the staff who were attentive throughout our time there. Menu choices were good and the food was very tasty and piping hot. Prices were reasonable also.Will go back when we are allowed to eat indoors.

After a strenuous hike/stroll/amble around some breathtaking scenery on a sublime almost spring day, we stopped to pick-up our well earned lunch.Perfect fish and chips(not frozen-big plus),excellent burger and good sausages for the kids.Considering the circumstances I’m sure Darren and Simon will be glad of the opportunity to reopen in the coming weeks to welcome all with their very friendly attitudes.

There were 2 families and 2 dogs and we were made to feel welcome. Food was excellent and service swift. They apologised for our mains being late (we were unaware they were) and they were great portion sizes. I had small fish n chips and it was still a decent size. Well done guys. All COVID safe too.

Another visit and food still excellent, I had the fish and chips and the fish was beautifully fresh and perfectly cooked, husband had the veggie pie, served with salad and new potatoes, which he enjoyed. Wine and beer well kept, extremely dog friendly and lovely attentive staff, Covid precautions in place.

Very warm welcome, lovely home cooked food, friendly cosy atmosphere, felt very safe with all covid measures adhered to. We will return!

I visited The Ford for lunch which was a very pleasant experience. There were three of us in our party and we all ordered two courses. The mushroom and stilton soup was delicious and the fried brie was very much enjoyed. All had the steak and ale pie which was by far the best I have tasted in a long time, simply delicious! The service was very good and the atmosphere friendly. An all round great experience and I will definitely be visiting again!

It was our destination as bike ride. So would not explicitly describe what everyone else had as we were too many for me to remember.Ordered salmon with potatoes. Actually did not expect a lot, therefore was blown away firstly just by look how good was served. Honestly, did not expect they for £14 dish (look yourselves).Salmon itself was just ok (well it’s extremely hard to makes something wow out of salmon anyway), but everything else was great. Potatoes were cooked perfectly, green beans to correct condition when crispy and juicy, not sure what’s that on top, but my guess goes for seaweed. Fee free to correct, but that was nice as well. And now the best - chilly butter as sauce - never ever imagined it could taste so divine!Deffo will go back to try this fish again after lockdown measures are relaxed and pub is open again. Keep this quality please!!

Just been here for tea, chose it because it had good veggie & vegan options. Veggie wellington was delicious,service and staff were lovely and very attentive, had a slight problem but Darren (owner)sorted it straight away. Very happy and will return.

We popped by today & were pleasantly surprised to be told they had seating available for us (2 people & 1 dog) both inside & outside. The service was brilliant, very friendly & attentive, and the food was even better. We'll definitely be visiting again!

Great rustic pub food, lovely atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff...recommend the Brie starter and black pudding/poached egg which had a nice spicy kick, love the fact they give the options of small or large plates for mains so cater for people with small appetites...albeit still did not manage to get to the puddings...will definitely be back ‍

My son and I stopped here on Friday mid afternoon, the welcome was extremely friendly and accommodating, they had a lovely fire lit which was great for the blustery day outside. The menu was perfect, just the right amount of choice, the food when it came was clearly all cooked fresh. Such a quality, very tasty meal. My son had soup and brie wedges - the sauce accompanying the wedges in particular was gorgeous. I had the pork belly - lovely crispy crackling and such a generous portion for both of us. We will definitely visit again and recommend.

We booked a late Sunday Dinner for 2. Clearly the pub had been very busy through the day and some menu options were completely sold out.We took the advice of the landlord and opted for the Steak Pie for me and the Chicken Kiev for my wife. Both were excellent, generous portions and very tasty.The staff were very friendly and we will be returning very soon to try out more dishes on the menu. All good.

Absolutely brilliant, massive improvement on the last landlord who was arrogant and full of himself, the two new guys are very attentive and helpful, don’t know if the chef has changed but the food is also much better, or very nice as the new owner kept saying, can’t fault anything definitely will be back, really made to feel welcome. Thank You.

Was here on Friday 11 Sept. My wife & I brought her sister for dinner. Exceptional service, lovely food, plenty of it & decent beer. Thanks for a great night

After a faltering start, (we abided by the displayed rules, posters stating ‘queue here’ at the door, for what seemed an eternity) we were welcomed into the pub and shown to a table. Misunderstanding sorted (apparently the posters are for weekend customers, not midweek) we quickly settled into a very hospitable hostelry. The chicken Kiev was very tasty, the landlord genial and the atmosphere comfortable. We will return!

Great welcome and fantastic home cooked meal, had steak pie and rump steak with my 94 year old mother on 8th Sept, my brother has been advised to go here as it’s a great find, dogs welcome on a lead, will return as soon as possible on my Harley

We had an excellent meal and a very warm welcome at the Ford Inn. Delicious food including imaginative specials like pigeon, and Thai red curry. Would definitely recommend for a good evening out.
