We have been going to the Grocer for decades but I think this time was the last time. Picked up lunch, wanted to wash my hands before and was told airily that I had to go to the local pub as they have no facilities. I know for a fact that they have toilets on site so why send people elsewhere, can't be bothered to pay for the cleaning? Nice for the local pub too!

I don't know if the owners, Ashley Sumner and Vivienne Hayman, ever read reviews but almost without exception reference is made to the excellent food but over shadowed by the rudeness of the staff. The dark haired chap who appears to be in charge has not smiled since he arrived some years ago and despite the fact that I go in there a couple of times a week he never acknowledges me or wishes me a good day. Yesterday a member of staff I had never seen before was the worst and that is saying something. He left his post at the till and followed me around the shop clearly watching to see if I was shoplifting. When I tackled him he agreed that was exactly what he was doing. He said the reason was because I had not pick up one of their baskets. Words fail me (well almost)!

This place has some of the rudest staff ever, I wish it disappeared in the next recession. The general attitude towards customers is probably the worst I've ever encountered on international travels.

This place is the best. Their sandwiches are beyond delicious and their coffee is absolutely perfect - hot and strong. I dont know how to describe it other than classic Italian coffee. If anyone knows what makes their coffee so good, please explain as I don't know how to articulate it. Other places (especially those flagging their 'artisan' coffee) just don't hit the mark; too milky, weak and tepid 🙄. No, this is the real deal , you can sit in the space out back and noone bothers you. People complaining about staff; they may be a bit subdued but they're not rude. If you're a regular they're super sweet and accommodating.

I often pop into the Grocer. The produce is of a very high standard. The upmarket ready prepared dishes are extremely good as is all the other things on offer. The bread is artisan and very tempting.

Really bad coffee. Wasn’t a properly made flat white; just an overpriced milky coffee with awful tasting coffee.

This place is a bit of a gem and it seems that mostly locals shop here, which is a bit of a shame. The staff are multi lingual and speak French, Italian, English and Spanish and they make the best mini pizza/focaccias in the area. The potato cakes and coffee are also good.

A relatively small selection of decent food for when you want something to hand that's easy to prepare and of better quality than most take-aways. I'm vegetarian, and recommend both their minestrone soup and spinach lasagne - that's my 'go to' option. Too pricey (and with too limited options) for my everyday shop... And yes, the staff might be wise to perhaps consider the possible merits of prozac (or St. John's Wort if they're more phytonutritionally inclined... ;).

As a local, from time to time I pick up one of their thin pizzas or sandwiches which taste delicious. Unfortunately, they are really let down by the staff who entirely lack manners. Furthermore, their prices are frankly outrageous with bolognese pasta sauce (400g) costing an eye watering £7.25 and some of their soups costing nearly £6. What a rip off! You'd hope with those prices they could afford half courteous staff but evidently not. Don't bother wasting your time or money here.

I prefer this place when is quite during the week. Very nice with privacy. Always feel welcome from the owner, shame the guy that made avocado toast left, they were glorious. Coffee is nice, and the tea cups are beautifil. Service is sometimes a little bit slow..but is getting better... Take away food, is amazing. The chickpeas curry is my favourite. And recommend the soups for a nice quick lunch if you want a place to relax and have a chat. No vino.... Great curry potato cake.

I decided to try the Grocer for dinner tonight and selected the Thai Green Curry. At £8.50 I thought it was expensive but if it was good it was worth it. Let's just say I have tasted better from Sainsbury's. It was virtually tasteless, zero spice and since when did Thai curry have spinach and butternut squash. Possibly the worst green curry I have ever had. Will not be back.

There is one man who works there that has brown curly hair who is so unfriendly and rude. If you sit in the restaurant area, he seems so annoyed that you are there to order and takes ages to take your order. I truly couldn't believe the order of events that took place - it's too long to write. I even spoke to the manager about it who didn't care at all. The manager should be replaced if he's that ambivalent about the customers satisfaction. I don't know who the owner it, but hopefully he gets clued in that multiple people have complained about the rudeness of the staff.

Nothing else to say, this is very healthy, you can find pretty much everything for a confortable price, of course it's not Tesco but the quality is way better, in summer the fruit are mature and smell amazing, in winter you get a huge choice of amazing soups and ready to dishes for less than 5 pounds.

I will be short and sweet on this one.Known it since its first day as I live around the corner. Its been getting progressively worse. The service is its biggest let down and it's a shame. The quality of the food now and even the pastries are terrible. They can't make a proper coffee..... Shame as it used to be great.....years ago.

OK - for those that have seen the Harry Enfield sketches about being ripped off in Notting Hill come here and experience it for yourself! Fair quality food and groceries, but man is it expensive! I have seen jars of jam/sauce in her for over £12 - no honour at all from the minimum wage assistant when I cracked a joke about it - avoid!

Hot water would have tasted better! I ordered a green tea... such a terrible quality! it was the worst green tea ever! My friend had a hot chocolate and apparently was OK. We paid £6 for two hot drinks! Def too expensive especially considering the average service. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone!

Went to the Grocer on Kings Road not far from the Saatchi Gallery. The food I must say was very good it had a quality and home made feel about it and all the ingredients looked and tasted very fresh. Loved the coffee. The only criticism I would have about this outlet relates to the prices - 2 Macaroni Cheese (Delicious), one Goat Cheese salad, I egg sandwich, 4 coffees and I soft drink - 44 UKPounds a little toppy.

Have previously bought food here but never sat in the cafe for a coffee! Waited for 15 minutes before someone bothered to come and take our order. The blonde waitress seemed most disinterested when we asked her if we could order. We even asked if she would take the order of the gentleman next to us who was also waiting with his daughter. Lots of staff all running around and not doing very much! It was about as badly organised as a restaurant in India!

They make good coffee there and it is a nice place to break away from the Portobello market crowds, albeit rather pricey. There is a small sit in section and a grocery section to buy stuff to go. I bought some Babaganoush there. Had never had of it before until I saw it there and curiosity got the best of me. Absolutely divine with pitta bread!!

Cercate altrove.
