Cafe Classic in Croydon

This place is so nice the food is Amasing they our so nice and gave us chips on the house ! by the way also try there garlic chips they are Amasing

We settled on this cafe for brunch, since as being new to Croydon, we didn't really know our way around. We received a warm welcome and were more than happy with the service and food.

Firstly, If I could give this no stars I would!! The man behind the counter was so friendly when we first approached but it was a bit too friendly, came across as quite desperate for customers (restaurant was empty) this should have been the first red flag! He kept pushing the bacon and avocado baguette and the garlic chips! We decided to stay to eat and my sister ordered the bacon and avocado baguette with garlic chips and I ordered the same baguette he was so pushy, do you want chips, “no” do you want coleslaw “no” I just want a baguette!! The tables were all sticky and clearly not wiped down for new customers. Inside was so dark and dingy so we moved tables to the outside area in the mall! The food arrived and it was an absolute disgrace! The baguette was as dry as a bone, no butter, the bacon was the pre packed already cooked nasty tasting stuff and we had 2 minuscule pieces of avocado inside not at all worth the nearly 10 quid we paid! I went inside to complain and ask for a refund and that’s when the very friendly guy turned really nasty, shouting and in our face, couldn’t believe it!! He was so rude telling me everything has gone up and that’s why he has to give so little inside the baguettes, he did refund us in the end but that is more because we were making a scene and quite frankly he was probably embarrassed of the food that came out of his restaurant (sorry cafe) if it is even worthy of calling itself that!! Honestly there are many other nice sandwich bars in Croydon you don’t need to put yourself through that!!

Kept trying to suggest you buy all manner of extra food, chips, salad ….we only wanted sandwiches. First asked where they prepare food then at till. Massive overkill. We had plastic plates although others had proper ones. No Diet Coke nothing except water. It is very expensive and I happened to say that and a staff member was having lunch and heard me and rudely scowled at me several times. So unnecessary

I like it here. It’s no budget option but the snacks and drinks are of high quality. Don’t understand the bad reviews about the staff as I have found them polite and helpful always (they’re cute as well). I would certainly recommend.

My daughter and I visit this small cafe whenever we go shopping to Croydon. The food is fresh and delicious and they have a vegan option too. Today my daughter had spinach and ricotta lasagne and I had salmon and mushroom pasta. Both dishes were brilliant as was the service.

One of the most distressing humiliating experiences I have ever had in a public service business. My husband and I went there today whilst shopping and while ordering food I simply asked the lady if there would be somewhere to sit when it was ready as the place was full. She began to berate me by shouting and drawing attention to the fact that I wanted a seat - and then tried to humiliate me by calling for one of the waiters to “find this lady a seat”. Not satisfied with that she then said to the person following me in the queue that “some people think we are robots not humans” in a very loud voice. We walked out - I was so distressed I burst into tears. I will never go there again and will tell everyone I know of my experience.

Located on the 1st Floor of a local mall is Cafe Classic one of many places to stop and have a snack. We had coffee & a croissant both of which were pleasant.

Has to of been the worse experience I have ever received in a cafe.The owner was extremely rude and aggressive. I will never return. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and ill-mannered person.

After a little shopping in the whitgift I decided to have lunch here.Relaxing lunch, quick service and friendly staff. See you again:) thanks

Where is the seasoning on the vegetable pasta? Just so bland! The tropical smoothie was pretty good though.

The orange juice was fresh but would have preferred it to be more chilled. Staff was patient and nice. The Jacket potatoes were absolutely massive and the price was pretty decent. They have a nice alcove where you can sit and have some privacy and quiet conversation.

Situated on the upper floor of the busy Whitgift Centre, we popped in here just after lunch and got a table without any difficulty. We only had coffee so can't comment on the food. Our coffees were nice though and set us up for an afternoon in the shops.

Atmosphere old and dated. However the food was so bland. I ordered a jacket potatoe with tuna 9no mayo) and a salad. How hard can that be to get right! It was terrible! lband no taste. The potatoes were kept on a counter, I thought they were just show pieces and she would get a fresh one, but no. I asked for a salad which they omit to bring, and when they did it was just a pile of green leaves and cut tomotoes in a bowl. As said I didn't want mayonnaise do they offer any kind of dressing. They handed me a plastic bottle of olive oil. The whole meal was overpriced. I paid £3.60 for the same meal which was delightful in a cafe in Hackney believe it or not. It was delicious. Personaly, you are better off popping into M&S next door and grabbing a salad!

I went to eat with my partner and his dad and the food was nice but it was overpriced for a cafe. On top of that, they overcharged us and the staff (especially the ladies with the short blond hair) were very rude when I went back with the receipt. I would never eat here again which is a shame as the food was quite nice.

The cafe looked good from walking past with fresh artisan type food. The baguette was ok but quite pricey! Sadly the toasted sandwich was not great and inedible as it was charred on outside but not melted in middle so just made the cheese sweaty. Again for the price it was not great and we would rather have a Taste the Difference sandwich from Sainsbury's. The staff are not that welcoming and helpful; if you've never visited before you're not sure of all the choice. Rushing visitors isn't a nice thing to do!

The Classic Cafe is a peaceful and friendly oasis, close to the noise and activity of the mall. Gentle, warm, atmosphere with charming, friendly and courteous service. The vegetable panini was delicious, coupled with apple pie and black coffee. Excellent, high value lunch. Highly recommended!

Visitamos este café esta tarde para el almuerzo con mi hija. . Tuve una patata chaqueta y mi hija tenía una lasaña. . 23 libras la señora intentó cobrarme! Me preguntó la cantidad y ella añadía ensaladas y un lado de col no había pedido. Después de mucho debate. y algunas de la señorita en la grosería hasta mi factura era el tirar a 14 libras, la comida no valía la pena esa cantidad. . No regresaré lo siento

He estado pasando este lugar muchas veces y finalmente fui a almorzar. La señora tomar la orden era muy antipático. Elegí portobello spaghetti pensando que sería bueno si hecha por los italianos (? ), pero fue realmente decepcionante. Las setas eran de lata setas botón y la salsa no tenía sabor y no había otro queso parmesano o. Y el hombre que lo trajo a mi mesa más o menos lo tiraban encima de la mesa. No volveré.

The lady making the sandwiches really needs to go and get some hospitality skills,If you don't get what you ordered, tell her at your own peril! we complained about her earlier in the year and have had dirty looks from her ever since, yesterday we ordered avocado to be added to our mozzarella and tomato panini's, she argued with my daughter saying we didn't order avocado! then begrudgingly put some in.The atmosphere then actually put us off eating there again, so I told the manager who happens to be her husband, he raised his voice saying it was a family business and they get up at 6 am in the morning and they don't upset the customers! I said all she had to do was say sorry and put in the extra avocado....I told the manager that we had spent £28 that day and that we were not going in again as we didn't really want the stress of her aggression, and he said fine we are full so your custom will not be missed!! very rude, they deserve each other.

If you ever wanted to feel like an unwanted customer, this is the place to be. Forget about the highly priced food,and less value for money, the staff here humiliate their customers! As it is their English is hard to understand, and when you speak slowly to place the order,they mock at you...completely confusing menu,unclear instructions on how to place an order, wrong calculation of food bill and the staff having the gall to tell you they don't want you standing on their head while you confirm if they understood their order.this was the third time in a row I came out with a bad taste in my mouth for going there,and am sure this was the last one!

We had tuna, asked for sweetcorn, was asked if wanted onion too, said yes, but that wasn't added. Literally, one small piece of lettuce, on the side, would actually have looked better with nothing. it was tasty, just such a shame they didn't put a bit more salad to not look so mean. 15pd for 2 sandwiches, and coffees so normal prices. The lady making the sandwiches could have looked a bit happier too.

We had some time to kill in the Whitgift Shopping Center. When we arrived around 8am in need of a caffeine fix after surviving the M25 the cafe was open already. Service was good as was the cappuccino. My wife had a freshly home made lemonade that she enjoyed. Hours later it was time for lunch. After looking at all the other places in the center we ended up back at the Classic Cafe as the food looked so good when we saw it in the morning. The staff were very friendly and even made some good suggestions for what to have for lunch. All of the dishes looked tasty and deciding on something was very difficult. Their special home made chips was very good. I can definitely recommend them and it is sad that I do not go to the center often otherwise I would like to try some more of their dishes. There must be many regulars as the staff know a many of their customers by name. This just tells me that I am not the only one finding their inviting friendliness, good food and neat restaurant irresistible.

This little cafe in the Whitgift Centre offers a good range of food, from sandwiches and baguettes to a proper cooked meal. All food is prepared to order in full view of the customers. Portion sizes are generous without being over whelming. The staff are amazing! Friendly, polite and helpful. They are always smiling, and will bring food, drinks and condiments to your table.

I called in here for a coffee break from shopping.The menu and food on display looked really good so I had a toasted panini, which was very tasty and well presented.The staff are very friendly and the service was excellent.A really nice little cafe....so much better than the usual chains.

If you want a good, old-fashioned, good value ,clean and well maintained English cafe then look no further. If you also want friendly and welcoming service from a family team, an imaginative but traditionally based menu and excellent value you'll also find it here. Its a rare and simple combination that is worth treasuring. There's no real need to book ( I am not even sure that its possible) and you'll be well looked after.
