Went for breakfast, staff were quick and friendly, I was given a mug when I explained I was going to order a coffee with my order but haven't yet decided. This allowed me to make my mind up while drinking said coffee. Sat downstairs outside in the sun. Great Spoons. Thank you.

I guess it's a fairly typical Wetherspoons. You always know what to expect. Really good place for breakfast, food is always piping hot. Offers very good value for money. Since it's a Wetherspoons you don't have super loud music to deal with.

Ham, egg and chips plus unlimited tea for 4.91. What a bargain. Proper off the bone ham. Cafe across the road charges double the price and it’s packet ham, definitely coming back.

My dad and I go in there on a Friday evening regularly and sometimes during the week after a hard day at work. We order the same thing every time - 2 Pints of Black Dragon, a double Strika and a double Glenmorangie. It always costs us £17.86 (£3.88 x2 + £4.21 + £5.89) which we think is reasonable compared to other people in the area. Today we got served by a new member of staff and she charged us £19.19 (because she charged us the price of 2 single Strika's when they clearly sell it as a double) I went to speak to the manager as there was a discrepancy of £1.33 and he said "dont worry about being overcharged" and I was like "yeah I kinda of do" (because in my mind you should charge customers right. He did a re-print of the bill and to try and make himself look goof, he said that "Oh you must have been served by a nice person as the price that you got charged is correct and you probably owe me £500 for the short charges that you paid" and a female member of his team was there defending me and saying that I was right because she is one of the few that serve me all the time and she always charges me £17.86 and he dismissed her. Basically I know that its £1.33 but its the principle that he tried to be coy about it and cover up the fact that (in his heart of hearts) he knew we'd been overcharged instead of apologising which was a surprise for me because it was as clear as day. My dad has already stated since we came home that we wont be returning to the Huxley as he is offended about what happened and the fact that the manager never owned up to the mistake but me personally I hope thats not the case as I like the place, the staff and the fact that they serve Black Dragon..

This is a typical no nonsense Wetherspoons pub! Inexpensive beers, wine & food, a trek to the toilets and a very lively atmosphere. A visit to the bar which nearly always has a queue, although staff are jovial and pleasant when serving. Have started using the Wetherspoons app now, which speeds up the service, but app is slow to order and you cannot order the quest beers on it. App needs a bit of improvement.

Haven't been in for a long time. Used to be semi regular when meeting friends. All the staff have changed and so has the atmosphere. Went for a family meal after shopping at Sainsbury's and saw staff refusing a lady a glass of tap water. They were blunt and rude and I wash shocked!

Recently witnessed a young lady and her dog being refused a bowl of water in the heat. All for having principles and policy, but be a human. This is just appalling from what appeared to be the manager and staff. Will be taking this up to the complaints team. Can't imagine any other service at this pub is done with much competence.

We have just been to the pub for the first time, myself my partner and his 14 year old twin boys. It was heaving busy, but the atmosphere was friendly, and the staff were welcoming. We found an empty table in the garden which, although rammed, was well presented with some beautiful plants and flowers. We did a table order using the app and was a bit dubious due to how busy it was how good the food or service would be, but were more than pleasantly surprised that the food came out within 15 minutes, was absolutely delicious, the staff were accommodating despite being rushed off their feet and the atmosphere, far from the expected ‘boozer on a Friday night’ was friendly and welcoming. My favourite Wetherspoons yet. Well done guys 5 stars well deserved

the gas on the guest cask ales constantly gives trouble,five times it has become the pub with no beer, the only local pub to not be in the good beer guide, no wonder, very badly run.

FUMING!!! I ordered 4 drinks to my table at 20:17 and NEVER RECEIVED THEM. I am fuming, the incompetent barman said he can do nothing about it. DO NOT COME HERE! Disappointed and disgusted.

Just enjoyed Fish & Chips at the Spoons in Sanderstead all for a crazy price of £7.28 with a soft drink after 2pm. Lovely piece of fish washed down with a coffee which is free to refill. Amazing value much cheaper than going to a fish & chip shop. This place is a no brainer.

A good weathspoons and good atmosphere

From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rustic decor, with its dark wood furnishings and soft lighting, sets the perfect backdrop for a cozy evening out. Also the beer garden ist fantastic for having a cold one in a quiet place

The blonde Irish woman behind the bar is an absolute joke. Really lets the place down, she has a terrible attitude and rude. Apparently wetherspoon policy is that staff can choose who they serve and when. Not sure why a business likes wetherspoon allows staff members like this to bring down their reputation in which is otherwise a well managed pub with professional staff

We've just popped in for a drink, and it was lovely.

The days of getting a large meaty portion of cod is dead at Wetherspoons is dead, actually most of the portions are now considerably smaller than a couple of years ago. But that is not unusual, the reason for the sole star is because although the service was quick the food was tepid and my fish was severely overcooked but it was also quite thin so really was poor. My friend wanted to send it back but I knew she was pressed for time so didn't want to delay our departure. The actual pub itself is standard for a London Wetherspoon, nothing outstanding but at 6:30pm had quite a family feel and child friendly.

Lets hear it for the 'Sir J' or 'The Hux' in Selsdon, my local 'Spoons'. Green King IPA at about £1.79 a pint, all other real ales between £2 and £2.50 and a plate of food including a drink for less than a tenner makes for a very economical evening out. Not a posh dinning experience I suppose, but always a good plate of food and at those prices you can afford a lot more evenings out with friends. I'm very happy with it and judging by how busy it was on Friday night, I guess everyone else is too. Perhaps other less busy pub chains should take note.....

The Huxley is wetherspoons chain pub, perfectly situated in Selsdon. It is one of the best of the chain that I've encountered. The veggie and veggie and vegan options are getting broader. I do love a veggie breakfast from there. The coffee is decent. It really does make a morning. The staff have always been superb!

Really good breakfast options at a very good price. Refillable coffee/hot drinks for just over £1. The quality of the food surprisingly was also good especially for the price paid.

Food is great...would be hot if staff would get off their phones long enough to serve it. Maybe the cooks wouldn't get blamed!

Atmosphere was flat, maybe because it was early ish..didn't have food so can't comment , and not a lot of variety on the cask ales compared to the George in croydon..

Curry night hot food great beer back again first class yet another great curry night the best the best.

It's the only pub that is colder inside than outside in the winter. Most people wear hats and winter coats and clothes inside as the aircon seems to be stuck permanently on and blows icy cold air across the pub. You can see the baubles and tinsel and hanging signage blowing around in the artic breeze. It's ridiculous. There is a fire, but it is rarely if ever lit. It would probably be blown out by the wind anyway 🙂

Usual spoons, kids running around like idiots, reasonable food but the saving grace of very cheap drinks. Good service from the staff who work very hard. Very loud, would be much quieter with music on.

You can't argue with a Spoons pricing even if the quality isn't exceptional. For 4 breakfasts, a coffee, a juice and a brunch time pint with change from £20 - who cares what it's like! With activities for kids and crayons available, it's a cheap alternative to other places when the need arises (and perfect before heading to the football)!

Great local pub with halfway decent prices. Good sized Beer garden and the front windows of the pub can be opened when necessary ( nice weather permitted 😊) the only downside is the parking.....

The Huxley is a great pub. Like most Wetherspoons, the food and drink are priced to be affordable and offer great value. The staff are a great bunch and it is a well-run and welcoming venue for all ages and demographics. My only gripe is that the aircon blows icy cold, seemingly even on cold days, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off. Make sure you bring a jumper 😃

A very clean and well organised spoons…stopped in for a breakfast …was hot and very quickly served …staff were very efficient …tables and area really clean and the bar was well presented …even got a proper pint glass with my beer ..

Me and my sister came with our parents and some of our family last night. We were in a big group so we were all sat around multiple tables. The waiter came over and told us at 8.30 as we had just got our food that they were unable to serve us until me and my sister left due to us having no physical id, even though we are both 19 and everyone was telling them this. We were only drinking cokes and eating food. They refused to serve the whole table and more of the people who had just come in because they knew we were with them. As we were told to leave, we requested a refund but they told us that we were not allowed a refund due to us signing up to their ‘new policy’. We are all very regular customers so its a shame we were treated so unfairly.

The usual Wetherspoon fare in a rather unusual setting. There is a main bar and big side room and a small conservatory. There is also a very nice sheltered garden area

Been using the Huxley fir years and always rated the food .. But curry night this Thursday was awful... Pommpadoms where not cooked properly and covered in fat ... Nan bread wasn't cooked properly and neither were the samosa or onion baji All in all worst meal I have had In a long time ... Extreamly poof food .. Won't be eating there again in a hurry

Lovely little pub tucked away Surrey south of Croydon. Only accessible by train/tram and bus, it's not the easiest spoons to get to but I would say it was worth the effort. Curious place with an art deco bar and plenty of seating available. A large skylight helps keep that part of the pub nice and bright. Interestingly, you go downstairs to the spacious beer garden with plenty of shrubbery. The staff were lovely and cheerful. The Guinness was excellent as was the Doom Bar.

Great atmosphere but always new staff and young whom just stand at the till and don't know how to queue customers, hense waited for ever to be served whilst people walked in and got served immediately. Training is not given to staff now days. Stand by the till and you're be served immediately. So wrong. Updated March 2020 On the up as staff training given hopefully following this review. Staff are being shown to queue customers and voice they are queueing to staff colleagues behind the bar. Very well done team. Hope it continues. Update June 2023 Following my experience in the afternoon drink in the Huxley. I don't know if a new manager has been appointed but I have noticed bar staff insisting all customers must leave the bar areas after purchasing an order from the bar.? Even when the establishment is half full. To insist all customers leave the bar area after ordering is very odd to me - to a point staff telling customer's your not being served next time? Really? I am a regular visitor to this establishment and many local bars and restaurants in the area. To find this approach to customers is unnecessary. My observation towards customers are somewhat unprofessional in my opinion - plus with Birch hotel now open nearby, many people will visit the Huxley for the first time for drinks at the bar. On weekends when capacity is near maximum, this rule is retracted. I feel staff are not using common sense following staff training. Clear signage should be advised on arrival to paying customers to decide on ordering to reserve the the right to leave the establishment if they are not happy with the request. To request this after ordering and refusing to serve again is not professional. Management/staff need to be clearly advised on this matter. The customer/management rapport is being compromised currently and a resolution needs to be addressed and resolved as soon as possible in my opinion.

I didn't try the food unfortunately but the selection of real ales was fab! £1:79 for a pint of Abbot Ale! There's a choice of around 10 different Ales at very low prices. The garden downstairs allows smoking too. It was busy but because it's a big pub there were still some tables available. Definitely recommend

I have Ordered chicken wings but it’s not really great and half cooked. Can’t eat and chew as well because the flesh is crunchy when u half cooked. Even the sauces which I have got no taste 👅 . No staff came to see us, after serving the food to ask how it’s going on.

Stop there for a few local drinks and catch up with work colleagues. Great relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff. 😍

Wetherspoons pubs vary from place to place but this one we have found serves the most consistently good, well cooked food. Good, always varying selection of ales. After sampling other Spoons within a five mile radius, this one is the best. Also nice and spacious as well, not cramped and claustrophobic as the Purley and Croydon ones are.
