booking is advisable to guarantee a table. had our usual burger and triple cooked fries. never disappointed here. not a full selection of ales but the bottled beers and wines are an impressive selection. when they serve a wine which should be served chilled they serve it in a frosted glass, on a summers day when you walk back to the table and the ice is sliding down the glass you know you are getting a top quality service. ( other places I have known serve white wine in glasses still warm from the dishwasher, but never here)

We popped in here on the off chance last night, 25th July, as we'd arrived in town a little early for our restaurant reservationWe were greeted at the door and asked for our contact details and were then shown to a table where our drink order was taken. A couple of minutes later our drinks arrived and payment was taken (there was an option to start a tab but we only had time for one). They've got it really well set up for the Covid restrictions and we very much enjoyed our first visit to a pub in months! The service is wonderful and the staff are lovely. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Happened to be in cr0 central with the Mrs and after a few hours we were flagging.....I suggested we head for refreshments in the spreadeagle....slightly disappointed as no red fox but may have just missed it....had a chocolate stout glass of pink for the mrs....After a while she said let's eat out and I said this does the classic Sunday roast so we settled on a pork and half a roast chicken.both arrived shortly and we were very happy....chicken was indeed half a small roast chicken and mine was a decent slab of pork...great roast spuds and loads of veg....all hot ,well cooked and presented... absolutely solid classic pub fayre.Finished with a glass of merlot and another pink...all in all a lovely lunch....good service and asked was all ok ? so no issues here this afternoon...typical Fuller's traditional looking pub refurbished from an old bank years ago...

This was my first visit to The Spread Eagle pub. As a venue for drinks it is fine as it is in a good location not far from the upper end of the High Street. The food wasn't great. I had traditional fish and chips. The fish was overcooked & the batter unpleasant. My dinner partner had the beef burger & chips which looked better.Would I return? Probably just for drinks, rather than food, but we chose the venue for its convenient location.

Haven't been in here for many years, like 8 at the very least, hasn't changed much if at all decor wise however the bar staff are spot on, I was served by a barman called Ralph and we had a good chat about fullers beers as they was selling the vintage ale in there and fullers brew a batch on a yearly basis. Plenty of choice of fullers beers on draught and bottled, nice selection of ciders, reasonable selection of spirits and a lesser selection of lagers but let's face it, why would you want a lager in a decent real ale pub? Drink prices are maybe a little higher than the other establishments nearby but you are paying for the quality of the beer in my opinion. Didn't try the food but looked ove the menu and thought there wasn't much to choose from but what I saw served up looked pretty damn good. Friendly locals/regulars as had a few conversations with random people. I had previously enquired if this place was wheelchair friendly and was told yes, am usually skeptical as have been lied to in the past, however, true to their word there is a wheelchair accessible entrance and just inside is a accessible toilet with a radar key lock which you can ask for at the bar however my partner has her own which saves waiting. Will definitely be heading here again next time I am up.

if you are looking for a swift pint in the heart of the town centre then you could do worse. The Spread Eagle does reasonably prices pub grub and the staff are fairly friendly. Great place for a quiet lunch if you are looking to stay out of the way of the lunch time crowd. Looking forward to a decent Sunday Roast, the sign said 'Delicious Sunday Roasts'Good selection of beers, very friendly staff. I ordered Half a roast Norfolk Chicken 2 ways. Feeling hungry, nice ale Fullers London Pride. I was served two pale looking chicken legs and a flabby Yorkshire Pudding with a bit of cauliflower, broccoli, crinkled sliced carrots and some purple cabbage with a small pot of gravy. No stuffing. No half a chicken, just two legs! A half chicken in my book is exactly that, the breast along with a leg and a wing. It said 2 ways, what did that mean? Why not say 2 chicken legs because that's what it was! I'm fed up with being conned, they need to change the description of the meal, it's misleading and quite frankly not worth the money, it's an insult plain and simple,I won't be eating there again!

We decided to try The Spread Eagle for lunch last Saturday and it proved to be a very good choice. It has a traditional pub feel to it and has a really nice atmosphere in which people of all ages would feel comfortable. At one end there is a large sports screen but in no way is it intrusive. At the other end there is a selection of tables and leather seating, surrounded by shelves of books and old photographs of Croydon. Their speciality is pies and my husband said his beef one was very good. I had a burger which was also very good. Service is friendly and efficient. We will definitely return !

Some TVs around the bar show sports - but not intrusively (might be different if a big match was on?) Arguably, the most impressive pub building in Croydon situated on the fringes of the main shopping precinct. Impressive interior and a good selection of Fullers' beers. Could quite easily have stomped for the tried and trusted London Pride but was pointed in the direction of Oliver's Island which was lighter and not as hoppy but packed full of taste. Didn't have any food but the menu looked fairly standard. Upstairs there is a theatre which puts on various productions throughout the year and by all accounts these are invariably of a high quality. I am told it only hosts 60-70 patrons so booking early is essential. Good pub.

Order food at the bar. The food is well presented. I had a bacon cheeseburger and chips. The food was served on one of those trendy boards, rather than a plate. I also treated myself to salt and pepper squid. The food also tasted good, although portions seemed small and prices on the high side. The good thing about the higher prices is that it tends to keep riff raff from coming in. Mostly casually dressed crowd, although a few suits, after work. A mix of ages. For a Tuesday lunch (2pm), I was surprised there were no other parties at the same time. We had the larger of three rooms. At this time of year, the Christmas meals on offer are very similar where ever you go, but some small touches added to the good experience including friendly and attentive staff, name cards including our choices of food and dressing up hats. Food was served by calling out our names - a good idea. For £20, I had smoked salmon, traditional turkey dinner and Christmas pudding. If I was honest, I'd also rank the courses in that order. As we arrived early, two of us had a drink downstairs (a pint and a coffee) and again the bar staff were very attentive. I visited this Fullers establishment with a friend for lunch and a couple of drinks. This corner pub in Croydon is situated centrally and it is a fairly large and rambling building. The visit was made on 1 December 2014.First impressions were not favourable. The decoration is very tired. The pub is gloomy. Many of the chairs had threadbare upholstery. The carpet on the stairs leading down to a basement toilet had holes in. It was almost embarrassing having taken a colleague there. However that was nothing compared to visiting the bar to order lunch. The pub advertises its pies, as a speciality, although it was not clear whether they were made in house or by persons or companies unknown 'down the road'. However that matters not because at 12.30 I was told "sorry but our kitchen is closed for orders because there is a Christmas party upstairs", the assumption being that there was not the capacity to deal with 'ordinary' customers. This was appalling. In fact the only positive was that the beer was in good condition and one member of staff was cheerful. This was a thoroughly bad experience and I cannot find it within me to recommend this establishment. Clearly Fuller's management do not visit their own pubs, or their estate standards are low.

Good atmosphere, plenty of room. Slightly high on prices though, considering its croydon it's not too bad I guess. Will definitely come back.

Good beer, Fullers and local beers. Great pies, as part of a full meal, they are excellent value. There is a theatre upstairs, we watched a performance called "tell me about your ex"; £10 for a ticket. Real ale and drama!

The pub has a good selection of real ales as well as a pretty good food menu. The menu has your usual gastropub food but also a few nice twists on the usual fare. Service is always quick and friendly - worth a visit for a pint or a quick meal at a reasonable price.

Very much an old-school pub, lots of choice of beers, local and national, pleasant staff and surroundings, and a nice sheltered outside place for smokers. Recommended!

Visited last week while visiting my daughter & son-in-law. Traditional town centre pub, great original features. Wonderful menu, but they do their own 'pie & mash'. Lots of them, including vegetarian. Absolutely delicious! They hold 'music' nights there & from the adverts, lots of different things take place in the theatre at the rear. Also advertise a conference/meeting room. Wide selection of beers, served by polite & very friendly staff. We had a great night out there, Definitely recommend. Try the pie & mash!
